American Photo Magazine 2012 World’s Top 10 Wedding Photographers

The two most wild and audacious goals I set for myself early on in my professional career were for my mom to name me, “best photographer in the world” and to be listed on American Photo Magazine’s Top Ten Wedding Photographers in the World. The former I achieved just a few years ago and it was not easy; my mom definitely made me work for it. :) The latter was more of a dream and I had no expectations of it being realized any time soon, if ever!!!

Normally, I don’t like to brag a lot about my photography awards and achievements (except for my mom’s) but for this I’ll make another exception. ;) This is my hugest goal achieved!!!! I’ve did it!!!! It is such an honor to be a member of this awesome selection of photographers.

AAANNNDDD, not only did I make the list, but American Photo chose my photo for the freaking cover!!! I nearly peed my pants when I saw the digital copy and I don’t think I’ll ever tire of looking at it.

Big thank you to American Photo Magazine for choosing me and for putting my photo on the cover. I also need to thank Aimee Baldridge for her fantastic interviewing skills. I talked with her a couple of times and I love how she pulled it all together for the magazine. Thanks to my mama and all of my friends and family who have supported me in doing what I love. In my photographic community and with my clients I am known as Sergio Photographer, or just Sergio. For the magazine I used my last name because I want my mom to know that she was right and I want both my mom and my dad to be proud of me while they show the magazine to their friends.

Now as Jay-Z says, “I’m on to the next one.” :)

BRITT AND MIKE’S WEDDING AT CAMELBACK SANCTUARY

Britt and Mike are super nice and they love each other very much. It was a real treat photographing their wedding at Camelback Sanctuary Resort in Scottsdale because the two of them were full of energy and happiness. Britt was so happy all the time and it was highly contagious; they made my day! Nick Tillinghast was my guest photographer.

Lindsey, Jason and I hit it off right from the first second we met. I love their enthusiasm and passion. Lindsey’s getting ready was one of my favorites ever because she actually works at the salon and all her coworkers and friends were there. Thank you Kelly Rashka for second shooting with me.

Kathleen and Brock hired me to shoot their wedding because they were looking for somebody that could capture the true essence of their day. I loved it that they kept everything very simple but they still felt very strongly about hiring a great photographer :-).

JENILEE AND MATTHEW’S WEDDING AT VALLEY HO

Jenilee and Matt had their ceremony at Christ the King Catholic Church in Mesa, AZ and their reception at the super awesome Hotel Valley Ho in Scottsdale, AZ. I first met Jenilee and Matthew when they invited me to dine with them at a delicious Asian bistro in Scottsdale. It was the first time ever that clients took me to dinner before they hired me and it was a blast. I get a bit emotional sometimes and this was one of those times; they are so insanely sweet. I felt so good with them, as if I had known them for years. I couldn’t stop thinking about my time with them; it truly touched my heart. OK, so you all heard it, to all my future clients: take me out to dinner and you will melt my heart and make me fall in love with you! :-)

ASHLEY AND BRANDON’S WEDDING

Ashley and Brandon’s wedding was so much fun and they both looked amazing. Ashley’s blusher and necklace were spectacular! Their engagement session(earlier in the year) is one of my favorites, I knew that I was going to love their wedding too. Their venue, The Inspirador in Chandler, was stunning. It was my first time working there and I was so impressed with the excellent service and installation. Flowers and decor by the geniuses at Avant Garde Studio. Their DJ was sooo good, Adrian Diaz. Makeup provided by Makeup by Amanda.

The reception rocked hard and Ashley danced like I have never seen a bride dance before. I am so happy that we had a chance to photograph this wedding. Kelly Rashka was my phenomenal guest photographer.

Dana and Tom melted my heart the first time we met, it was one of my best meetings ever. Their wedding was amazing and they love each other so much. It was hard not to start crying my eyes out when they had their first look; Tom was blown away by Dana’s beauty. I enjoyed this wedding so much that at times I wanted to put my camera down and just be there :-). Thank you so much for having me.

Elizabeth and Eirik are two of the sweetest couples I have ever met. From the first second we met, it was just smiles all the time. It was a great honor photographing their wedding; it made me very happy to see them enjoying themselves so much. I wish them the absolute best of the best. Even though they live in Chicago, I feel very strongly that I will meet them again.
