RWJ Foundation Awards $1.85 Million for Health Games Research

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) has awarded more than $1.85 million in grants dedicated to researching links between gaming and positive health behaviors. The grants, provided as a part of RWJF's Health Games Research national program, funded nine research teams located in the United States. PBS has expanded its iPhone game lineup with the release of Mister Rogers Make a Journal for Preschoolers, an application that encourages emotional development in young children. ARA Expands Moon, Mars & Beyond Dev Virtual Heroes

Federal contracting company Applied Research Associates (ARA) announced plans to expand its office in Raleigh, North Carolina, to make room for the 45 staff members of serious games studio Virtual Heroes. ARA acquired the America's Army series developer in April. Virtual Heroes CEO Jerry Heneghan revealed that the company plans to hire 20 additional employees in the next year. Media Development Authority of Singapore Invests $6M in Serious Games

According to a report at The Straits Times, the Media Development Authority (MDA) of Singapore plans to invest $6 million into the development of serious game applications. The MDA's funding will support 24 game projects, as chosen from a pool of applicants. The MDA will continue to fund these projects into 2012.
