Some may wonder what the purpose of a Pre-Fall collection, and it is solely to cleanse the palette, and get the consumer ready for the Fall collections. These pieces are simply filler pieces, and ones that you would need to spice up your wardrobe if needed. Designers in New York are doing just that; keeping that cool city girl in mind who could use a few new items in her closet. I have chosen some of my favorite looks from several New York designrs' collection, and have posted them below.

Reed Krakoff Pre-Fall 2012: Green python? Ladies say hello to your new coat .

Rag & Bone Pre-Fall 2012: The outfit is the epitome of cool. The leather blazer with the mesh top underneath and the pop of red definitely gives this look an edge.

3.1 Phillip Lim Pre-Fall 2012: The jacket is cut beautifully, and all the colors and the textures seem to mesh effortlessly.

Diesel Black Gold Pre-Fall 2012: This look can easily go from day to night just with the simple change of footwear. The draping of this is beautiful, like liquid metal.

Theyskens' Theory Pre-Fall 2012: I am having a hard time figuring out what woman wouldn't want to be a Theory woman thanks to Olivier Theyskens'. This look completely has the downtown night owl vibe. I have been salivating over that motorcycle jacket all month.

The Row Pre-Fall 2012: Mary-Kate and Ashley seemed to have their niche for The Row, and have mastered the ultimate luxurious nonchalance. The velvet top with the dark denim gives off a mature but youthful look.

Narcisco Rodriguez Pre-Fall 2012: This look is extremely strong on top, and very subtle below. The fur sleeves work perfectly here, and the touch of burgundy is extremely sexy.

Ricardo Tisci has never been one for minimalism, so for his Pre-Fall 2012 he continued on with his aesthetic and allowed the clothes to make an impact on their own (no gimmicks included). His idea for Pre-Fall must have been to create pieces that will make women stand out, and I am not just referring to the coats. The day looks were some of the strongest I've seen out of the Pre-Fall collections. The mixture of colors and fabrics created shapes that created fluidity from head to toe. Tisci's use of volume happened in a wave, starting out big going in at the legs and finishing it off with the powerful boot. If you found yourself picturing any of these looks on you, don't worry, you're probably not the only one.

Just Enough Volume

Nicolas Ghesquière brought the Balenciaga house back to the 80s with his Pre-fall 2012 collection. Structured jackets with acid trip zebra prints and blasts of color were paired with light-weight voluminous pants. I took quite a liking to this new form of belts with the attached peplum. They seemed to tie in each one of those looks perfectly. Nicolas did an amazing job at completely modernizing a trend that could easily be seen as tired and worn out.

New Year, More Moments

It's the first day of year 2012, and I my only resolution is to continue to grow and brand myself a lot more. I just want to recap my top ten moments, whether fashion or personal, that have had an impact on me. These moments range from music that I fell in love with all the way to models who are having well deserved moments. Here's to another year that hopefully will top the one that has just passed.

1.) The Weeknd

I would describe his music as a Michael Jackson of the millennium generation. He released a trilogy of mixtapes this year that captures a love story in it's extremely ups and downs; it's beautiful.

2.) The Oliviers

Olivier Rousteing and Olivier Theyskens (both French) have both had an amazing year at their new homes. Theyskens has proven that he can do demi-couture as well as master the downtown girl at Theory, and Rouseting has show us that he has the power to take over the reigns of the very popular and flashy house of Balmain. It also is an added plus that both designers are incredibly beautiful. (me with Theyskens on FNO)

3. Maryna Linchuk, The Vogue Girl

Since Maryna Linchuk landed the Vogue Turkey December 2010 cover, she has not slowed down, and instead has graced five more including two for January 2012. Next step is campaign domination.

4.) Up Close and Personal

The moment I got to go to the Alexander Wang Spring 2012 show was the moment where I thought I could do anything. It as the first show I tried to sneak into coming up here, and just two years later (4 fashion seasons) I was finally amongst the elite.

5.) Elle's Rising

Quite a large percentage of the fashion industry has taken notice of Elle Fanning, and she has become one of the new It-girls. With a Marc by Marc Jacobs campaign, LOVE Magazine cover, invitation to a Chanel show, and muse of the Rodarte sisters, I see that Elle may have to move to New York with Dakota.

6.) Don't Call It A Comeback

When model Elise Crombez walked out onto Alexander Wang's Spring 2012 runway, I knew it was just a teaser to something more. Fast-forward to a few months later and she is back behind Meisel's lense as one of the faces of Prada's Spring 2012 campaign. Let's hope she's back for good.

7.) Farewell

Designers leaving houses seems to have been a trend of 2011; starting with Sarah Burton taking the throne at Alexander McQueen after his death and ending with John Galliano's replacement at Dior reportedly being Raf Simons. I hope the industry will not have a huge change in positions this year, but only time will tell.

8.) The Woman Has Returned

It started off with the return of mature models like Aymeline Valade, Saskia De Brauw, and new comer Kati Nescher, but now the runways of the major design houses such as Prada and Jil Sander are welcoming the celebration of the mature woman and will hopefully continue to move away from the obsession of the child-like appearance.

9.) Rob Evans

He certainly has been having a great year, from booking CK One ads shot by Steven Meisel, a Givenchy campaign, and walking Jean Paul Gaultier's haute couture show. He is bringing back the era of male modeling that evoked power, poise as well as tons of muscle. Rob Evans can do no wrong in my eyes.

10.) Big Thing Are Coming

2012 seems to have a huge opportunity in store for me. I can only thank photographer Kevin Amato for inviting me on his journey into future greatness. I am going to be with him on this bumpy ride :-)

A New Year's Must-Have

With anticipation for what the new year may bring, Steven Meisel puts some humor into his latest work for Vogue Italia Janury 2012. Models Daria Strokous and Caroline Trentini act as models for Vogue Italia's very own home shopping network. Meisel's parodies usually take on a current trend or political issue, but I wonder if he plans to set a trend for a new form of shopping with this cover. Can't you just imagine women sitting in front of their TVs on their IPhones and Blackberries trying to get the latest Chanel?

Eastern Jewels

Karl Lagerfeld has an impeccable talent. Like John Galliano, he has the ability to take us on a journey to a culture we may never get to experience while adding their own touch. For Chanel's Pre-Fall 2012 collection, Lagerfeld ventures east to Bombay, India. This was opulence at its finest, and it wasn't just the scenery. As if Chanel jewelry couldn't get any more beautiful, Lagerfeld drapes fine crystals, pearls, chains, and studs head to toe on the models (literally). I thought the Fall/Winter 2010-11 Haute Couture show couldn't be topped, but it seems that I have found some competition for jewelry that I will imagine me wearing. *Sigh* A man could only dream...

A Face To Remember: Frida Aasen

Recently, there has been the two trends of models that have been dominating the industry; the return of the woman as well as the return of youth. Then, there comes a model who could probably fit into both of the categories. Norwegian model, Frida Aasen, started off her first season just right with a Prada booking in Milan, and a semi-exclusive booking for Loewe and Louis Vuitton. Her looks resemble the first barbie, and has the pout of Bridgette Bardot. Here she is for Numero's December issue taking on the look of a 1960s innocent girl in the park, shot by Sean and Seng and styled by Samuel Francois. Because she is signed with DNA, I only expect to see high-end bookings for this girl in the future.

Play On Your Own Team

A trend that I can recall being started by Alexander Wang from his "Americana Football" Spring 2010 collection, that eventually evolved into Proenza Schouler's "Naughty School Girl" collection for Fall/Winter 2010. If you still have no clue what I am talking about, then I will introduce you to the varsity/baseball jacket. If you grew up with these or even watched movies based on high school, then I'm sure your quite familiar with how important you would have felt walking around your school hallways in one. Brands from Givenchy to H&M are featuring their own versions of this jacket this season, but if you're looking for something a lot more unique, then the Nike Stadium is the right stop for you. For $680, you can act out you own fantasy while making a custom Destroyer jacket by selecting from a vast array of embellishments. I could see myself going in there for my hour long consultation, really getting into the idea of having my very own letterman's jacket (small dream of mine). This would be the ultimate Christmas present to give to yourself... or someone that you could actually see spending almost $700 on (like me).

While reading an article in the November of W Magazine on Giovanna Battaglia's fashion finds during her travels, I stumbled upon something amazing—Stubbs & Wootton. They are based in Palm Beach, FL and specialize in he "purveying of fine footwear." Like Battaglia, I had no idea that they were slippers, but after visiting their website, it didn't matter. I couldn't possibly wear these around my apartment; I would have to parade around the street in them. For something so small, they carry such a huge personality. With designs that range from a top hat with a bow tie to rabbits, It would be extremely hard just to choose one. If you don't live near one of their 3 stores (New York and Palm Beach), then you can purchase them online for $450 each.

When I think of a model who deserves a lot more editorial attention, Maryna Linchuk comes to mind. She possesses the capability to transform herself into anything; from a secretary to a not-so-holy nun she does it all. A new magazine publication, AWE (Art Wednesday Editorial), has given Maryna a chance to use her body as a center for art. Shot by Paola Kudacki, Maryna is show in complete asymmetry, performing poses that exude sensuality without being pornographic. Maryna isn't one of those models that do nude constantly, so when she does decide to show more than a Tom Ford choker, styled by Natasha Royt, expect her to blow your mind. Art Wednesday is a London-based website that aims to share art and culture in new ways to Londoners. They decided to develop a physical magazine, replicating Andy Warhol's Interview Magazine. The style is much like a hand-made zine, and has excellent content from people such as Lily Cole, Scott Trindle, Luis Stephens, Robert Wilson, Jessica Brinton, and Maya Singer. So Fresh, So Clean

With a season that was starting with blasts of color, one would wonder what Francisco Costa had up his sleeve at Calvin Klein. Costa however, did not go with the flow, and offered something that remained true to the Calvin Klein woman. The color palette was shades of creams, beiges, and whites; very reminiscent of skin. The collection took on a different approach, and explored the idea of femininity in the 1920s and gave it a touch of modernity with 1950s styled silhouettes. The lengths of the dresses came just below the knee, offering just the right amount of sexiness in the cleavage area. The structured tailoring was balanced with delicate fabrics, allowing for a fluid scan over the whole body. The cuts of the suit jackets and skirts shaped the models' bodies perfectly, and the sheer pieces still allowed the body to be left to just an imagination. Costa loves offering looks that can be worn throughout the day, and these dresses could probably be slept in without ease; they seemed to be as light as the slips women wear underneath their dresses. Towards the end, Costa's girl got rid of her innocence and ventured into black. The pieces as one would imagine, were strong, but not in the heavy sense, still maintaining its ease; almost as if the girl hadn't forgotten who she started off as. The show ended with beautiful floor-length gowns, and it seemed as though she was pure again—heavenly.

Altuzarra's Getaway Girl

In New York fashion week seemed to be split 50/50 with a mixture of sporty and ladylike collections. Apparently, Joseph Altuzarra couldn't choose just one. His Spring/Summer 2012 collection gave a new meaning to a hybrid; the backpack dress. Completely industrial looking, with a touch of femininity from the fabric choice. I'm getting a Lara Croft vibe from this.

Phillip Lim's Unique Point of View

Phillip Lim's collection for 3.1 Phillip Lim was completely fresh and full of life. The referencing of a kite was so apparent in each piece from the colors down to the way the fabric was draped. I immediately drifted back into memory lane when seeing the looks in motion. This collection could have easily went the safe and pretty route, especially with the pastel colors, but Phillip Lim was able to toughen it up without having it look incredibly masculine. I wanted to do something different and only feature the back of the looks because I don't think I've ever appreciated a garment's backside so much. The pictures definitely don't do the pieces enough justice.

Proenza Schouler's Classic Woman of the Future

If Marilyn Monroe was brought back to life and living amongst us in today’s world, what would she wear? My guess would be Proenza Schouler's Spring 2012 collection. Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez emphasized on playing with the idea of texture and shape this season, offering a combination of materials and silhouettes that were elegant with a hint of naughtiness. The only time I ever think of eel is when I am ordering sushi, but the designers were able to turn it into beautiful leather skirts. Their eye for printmaking is unbelievable, and I love how they took Hawaiian floral prints, paired them with the shapes from the 1950s, and used interesting color combinations and cuts to make them modern. There were two dresses towards the end that I fell in love with were the ones that had the illusion of a pencil skirt that came from the back and was tied in the front. Completely flattering, and such a clever new touch on a silhouette.

Olivier Theyskens' Downtown Edge

Olivier Theyskens has now been designing for Theory for three seasons (not counting Resort) now and has become such a hit with his romantic touch on contemporary clothing. For Spring 2012, he ventured downtown for inspiration, offering his touch on the city girl. The models were effortless, fresh, and looked so laid back; it was almost as if they had styled themselves. But how did Theyskens' add an even bigger touch of cool to this very chic girl; he gave her a new pair of pants. The trousers sat low on the models' hips, but were in fact high-waisted. He offered this silhouette in various cuts and materials, allowing the Theory woman an endless amount of choices; ohhhh the horror of decisions. It's such a remarkable thing when a designer is able to reinvent something and still make it practical. I think I'll have to try a pair on for myself next Spring.

Alexander Wang's New Girl

It was quite unexpected, but I got into the Alexander Wang Spring/Summer 2012 show. The moment was all happening all too fast, and I could not stop shaking. The music starts, and I immediately felt as if I was in New York's most exclusive party. The first model comes out, and walks around the glass structure in the shape of an X. To me it was very much like Alexander Wang's own X-Games; tough outfits with a slight touch of femininity. A simple skirt would come out, but had large mesh pockets placed on the front or there would be parkas covered in a floral print. All of the outfits were paired with pointy toed heels; something quite unexpected. This collection was all about details and looking at something very common in a different way. He did not feature clutches or satchels, instead he had backpacks and helmets. His laser cut-out leather dresses had everyone in the area I was in gasping; completely sexy and flattering. Aymeline Valade closed the show in a beautiful sheer shirt with a tribal print on top and delicate florals on the bottom, showcasing a purple swimsuit underneath; proving that Wang's women can do it all.

New York Fashion Week has finally come, and although it looks like I will not be attending any shows I will still be posting write-ups on the collections that impress me. As for the season excitement I have been anxiously waiting for DNA's show package for the women to be released on Models.com, and I what they presented was nothing short of stunning. There is a little bit everything from promising new faces to the beauties who are returning for another excellent season, and even some girls who are back from a break. The new faces they have all bring something unique to the table, and I am very interested in seeing how New York treats them. Here are the girls who I believe have the potential of having an excellent season:

1.) Krystal Glenn

The icy blonde Aussie-born model has already been a hit in her native continent, so her next step is to take on the big apple. With features reminding me of a softer Hannah Holman, Krystal has the ability to wow designers with her cool and effortless look.

2.) Josilyn Williams

Her extremely defined features compliment one another perfectly, and she is already being compared to some of top black models out now. I am hoping she shows up at Calvin Klein.

3.) Liao

One of the strongest Asian faces I have seen since Ming Xi. With just a few pictures in her book, she already has the presence of a model that has been in rotation for multiple seasons.

4.) Meaghan Waller

Her look is very modern with some classic elements to her. Her beauty is very timeless reminiscent of the actresses in the 1940s and 50s. I think it's her eyes that have sold me.

5.) Crystal Norweiga

Refined look and a beautiful skin complexion, what more could you ask for in a model?

My Wildcard: Vika Falileeva

Vika isn't new to the modeling world, but she is back and hopefully to take the capitals by storm. Having seen her in person I believe those cheekbones have the power of persuasion, and I love just love Russians.

A Garage Powerhouse

Dasha Zhukova's anticipated magazine Garage has finally surfaced, and it appears to pack a punch. It hasn't been defined whether it will be an art magazine with a hint of fashion or a hybrid of art an fashion, but either way it's readers are expected to get the best of both worlds. Zhukova has teamed up with some of the most creative minds in fashion and art to produce something that is very different from the rest. Each cover has the power to stand on its own, and have features collaborations from different artists:

Cover 1.) The sketch of the Kool-Aid smile by Richard Prince

Cover 2.) Model Shauna Taylor's lower half covered by a peel-off butterfly sticker referencing Andy Warhol's album art for Velvet Underground. Photographed by Hedi Slimane and designed by Damien Hirst

Cover 3.) A Lily Donaldson puppet photographed by Nick Knight and designed by Dinos Chapman

What this magazine has done already is to provide something that doesn't seem cliché, and it doesn't seem forced. The fact that the genre isn't distinguishable is superb because it means they have the ability to do whatever they please. With a editorial featuring food replicating designer clothes, and having Shala Monroque as the creative director I can only imagine what is in store for this new magazine. The magazine is expected to be on sale during fashion week, and I hope their offices are in New York because I would love to intern for them.

Power Brand

Kate and Laura Mulleavy have conquered every field of high fashion with their successful collections for Rodarte, becoming rumored candidates for designers at Dior, and recently designing a couture collection. The Mulleavy sisters didn't stop their, but ventured on to collaborate with Opening Ceremony. The collection is everything that current Rodarte fans would appreciate as well as bring in new fans who are not familiar with their brand. They have infused silhouettes from some of their recent collections that continue the ideas of mixing hard and soft, as well as featuring new techniques like the head to toe printed pieces. The collection is completely romantic, and gives off a feeling of infinite youth ranging from moderate to high prices (but it's worth it). I would love to get my hands on the printed button down that has the old painting on it; my favorite piece. The Fall/Winter 2011-12 ad campaign for Alexander McQueen shot by David Sims is absolutely breathtaking. The ads which look like an old Leonardo Da Vinci painting feature model Raquel Zimmermann who has dominated this season scoring Lanvin, Jimmy Choo, Juicy Couture, Yves Saint Laurent, and Alexander Wang campaigns. Versatility isn't even a word I would use for her because she's beyond it.

Only The Strong Survive

Since Carine Roitfeld's departure from Vogue Paris the ex Editor-In-Chief has managed to keep her self busy in the fashion world. She has styled the Chanel and Barney's Fall 2011-12 ad campaigns, but has an even bigger project coming up next month. WWD reports that Carine Roitfeld has collaborated with Mario Testino for V Magazine's September issue for their "Heroes" issue. Roitfeld's hero of choice is the iconic Elizabeth Taylor, who Carine describes as "having an elegance far beyond clothes." For this issue Carine will have a 72 page editorial devoted to the late actress. I love what she has recently done for the Chanel ads, so I am super thrilled to see this major project unfold.

Stepford Wives, Meet Your Match

Miuccia Prada's collections for Miu Miu are always likes to take normal ideas and add a twist to them. For example: Sundays at the country club. The 1950s housewife has just been revamped. For the Resort 2012 collection lace and gingham are given a touch of modernity with lightning bolts, neon, leather, and chunky jewels. Babydoll silhouettes, delicate jackets, and party dresses are also given that extra jolt that allows the Miu Miu woman to play with the idea of youth while remaining mature all at once. The casting of androgynous model Querelle Jansen with the cute and quirky model Ginta Lapina take the concept even further into reality. Don't expect the women wearing this collection to be in the house all day with the kids; she's stepping out.

The anticipated return of one of my favorite artists Björk has left me ecstatic. She recently collaborated with Dazed & Confused magazine, and guest-edited their August issue. The cover, shot by Sam Wells (who also did the artwork), is nothing short of Björk's style that I have come to enjoy. Looking at the preview of the content inside, I was blown away by the Crystalline editorial. Named after her first single from her album Biophilia and featuring Kinga Rajzak shot by Ruth Hogben, the story is completely a dessert to the eyes. Colors, textures, and plenty of movement; I'm sure I found something new each time I looked at the images. The story goes completely well with the song( play it while viewing the images), and I must get my hands on this issue.
