I’ve been busy for some time now, but it’s Holiday time.

We will be gathering with our friends and families and I thought this would be a great time to spread the word about using good manners, courtesy and etiquette along with our Holiday cheer.

So, for those of you out there that are YouTube video bloggers:  I pose a challenge.

Here’s The Deal…

-Create a 5 min (or less) video about a Holiday memory that would have been better if good manners and etiquette were included. So, set up the story and tell what act of good manners or etiquette would have been the correct way to behave during a Thanksgiving event.

At the beginning of the video, let your viewers know you took up the challenge for Seriously McMillan’s Team Thanks & Giving 2009. Let your viewers know they can visit the “She SO Ghetto” blog and your video will be displayed there as well.

The winner will be the video with the most hits on YouTube and on my blog. I will combine the totals. The winner of the challenge receives a front page spotlight on the “She SO Ghetto” blog and an autographed copy of my book, “You Suck When You’re Rude”.  –But wait, I must say that you are all winners because it’s always a good thing to promote manners, courtesy & etiquette.

Here are some ideas:
-Did you have a rude family member that ruined the day with nasty behavior?

-Tell about rude kid family members and what they could have done differently.

-Tell about a situation where someone was on some serious dramatic mess…What could they have done differently?

-I ain’t eatin’ that!: Tell of an incident where someone was rude about Thanksgiving food.

-Gettin’ Tipsy? Do’s and don’ts- Tell about a time where a family member had a LITTLE too much to drink at a Thanksgiving gathering.

-Destination Procrastination: Are you punctually illiterate? …Don’t make everyone wait to eat the Thanksgiving feast:  Tell a story about waiting a long time for guests to arrive for Thanksgiving dinner.

-Don’t come out like tranny’s on parade. Dress approritate: Tell a story about friends or family that dressed so bad, it was funny.

-GOT AN Idea?

All videos must be made and uploaded before 12:01 am on November 13, 2009.

I hope that if you are in a situation where someone is a abusing you, you take the time to watch these videos and know that we may not know one another and we may never meet, but I still care.

I am surprised that there are actually weathermen with a salary in sunny, warm places because what daily job do they have to do that an anchorman(woman) couldn’t report?

I think I have my answer now….

I feel for them both. Yet, in this society, when it comes to being a celebrity, no matter how inappropriate it is to look up to them…We know someone is doing just that.

I think Chris Brown  and Rihanna DO have a responsibility to use their platform and status for calling attention to social issues they find themselves a part of.

Most celebrity uses their status to promote something, even if it’s just themselves. George Clooney used his celebrity status to call attention to Darfur and so on, so why doesn’t Rihanna now embrace this new “fame” for this situation and donate money to shelters or do a PSA. Same for Chris Brown. How would it hurt them now?

Rihanna and her camp chose now, just shy of releasing a new album [they don't say album anymore, do they?] to speak out. Great timing on the publicity. Can’t fault them for killing two birds with one stone.

He must have really planned this out.

He gets three-squared-meals, room and board and meet new people…

Something doesn’t add up because I can’t imagine why someone would want to do this on purpose.  If this guy is so off-color that he doesn’t care about his freedom, then this truly is one dangerous guy.

The 24-year-old Crystal Lake man, charged with home invasion, extended his middle finger as he was being sworn in before Judge G. Martin Zopp on Saturday.

Assistant State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally stepped forward and asked on behalf of the state that [Kane] Kellett be held in direct criminal contempt.The judge agreed, and gave Kellett six months, according to McHenry County State’s Attorney Louis Bianchi.

Kellett, who had allegedly broken into an acquaintance’s home and tried to bash him over the head with a flashlight, did not seem to be in a good mood.

“When they brought him out of the lockup he looked very unhappy. He was looking down all the time,” Bianchi said. “The judge asked him ‘Sir, do you have an attorney?’ and he said ‘F— no.’ “

The judge let that one go and asked Kellett to raise his right hand to be sworn, and “what he did then was flip off the judge,” Bianchi said.

It’s November folks.

We’ve spent all year together talking about manners and etiquette and now it’s time to show off those skills for the Holidays.

Thanksgiving Day is November 26th, 2009.  That’s a Thursday, of course.

So start now with your menu planning and guest plans.  Start early so you are not left behind or caught in a last-minute Turkey Day frenzy.

That includes sending those Thanksgiving cards to your family and friends.  Don’t send an e-card  or email unless you must, for instance, someone has moved and you don’t know their mailing address.  Otherwise, get a stamp and send a card.

Slip your card into the mail between 10 and 15 days before the arrival deadline or the Holiday.  Earlier at Christmas time!

I happen to like sending things in the mail to people.  It’s a bit nostalgic since we can now send an email faster than light, but there is a place for such nostalgia.  And, if there are ever Holidays for sending cards, major Holidays are the ones.

This is my top 10 reasons why you should join me in sending a card via snail mail instead of sending an email or e-card.

1. You can hug a card:  Yes, you can hug a card.  If you cannot hold the person you are sending a card to, you can at least send something from your heart and hand, specially delivered by post just for them.  It’s a real experience.
2. Personal Connection: The receiver will see your handwriting and know that the special signature inside the card is from someone who cares for them.  There is something about giving something hand written that makes it special and worth scrapbooking and saving as an interpersonal connection between you two.
3. Kids Don’t Send Good Email, They Send Cards Better: Kids need to know that they can communicate with family that lives far away with more than a telephone call.  Teach them to send a card to friends and family that live long distance.   As children, our moms kept our handwriting and doodle notes as a sign of where we were in our development.  Our misspelled words and backward letters gave way to our now calligraphic signature.  So, send a card.  Sign a card.  Have your kids sign it to. Mist the card with your special body spray or add an extra letter or photograph the receiver can frame. The person receiving the card will appreciate it.  Now, try that with an email!
4. Truly make the card a surprise: If you are just addicted to sending email, send an actual paper card, too.   Why not?  The extra though could brighten someones day.  It’s the extra thought that counts.
5. What if they don’t have email?: Not everyone has an email address or even a computer, so here’s a great reason to send a card rather than an email.
6. It’s Cheap: The actual cost of a stamp for a classic sized card that weighs less than 13 oz. 44 ¢.
7. It’s A Trophy: Who want’s to print out some words you wrote and show them off to friends?  No one!  Yet,  a snazzy card  will be shown off as a trophy to friends and neighbors.  “Look at what my son/daughter/grandchild sent me…”
8. Get Crazy & Creative: Print your own card or buy one with glitter, stars, unicorns and more glitter!  Seriously, the sky is the limit.  Give something unique.  There are thousands of cards to choose from and some are even less than a buck!
9. Sometimes “E” Is For Inappropriate: There are just inappropriate topics for email or an e-card.  If you are sharing some truly intimate and heartfelt feelings with someone, don’t share it in an email.  Share a card and you may want to drop a personal note inside the card.
10. You Can’t Email Money: Yeah, it’s a bit old fashioned, but I don’t know anyone who is too old to get a card with a few bucks (or gift card) stashed inside.  You can’t email money.
