The great thing about skiing is that you do not have to be particularly sporty. Skiing is a Leisure Sport, which means having fun,
so anyone can learn from 3 to 93. The importance is to find a type of lesson and instructor adapted for you: group lessons or private coaching.
Our adult and children courses cater for beginner to intermediate skiers and have a maximum of 8, but 6 for The Mini Kids – beginners aged between 4 and 6 yrs. This is a great value for money option.
Advanced workshops are also available for one, two or three days. They look at learning skills in specific areas – off-pistes, bumps, slalom or carving.

Over the past 2 years I have a had many ski lessons in Serre Chevalier with Ski Connections mainly with Davina Charignon who is awesome ski instructor. I have always found Davina’s lessons very entertaining so I asked her to write something about tips to improve skiing to go on this site, here’s one:

“A good stance is fundamental to being well balanced. As you travel down the slopes your stance should change depending on terrain, turn shape and changes in speed. Your stance should not depend on a certain style or look you would like to achieve. It should depend upon your morphology, gender, level and your character. All good functional skiing stances should be strong and energy efficient.
Many people are too crouched when they ski. They believe that a low position will make them more stable. This is true to a certain extent, being low is okay sometimes, but not crouching. In general people bend their knees and this places their weight too far back, therefore making them not very well balanced. This combined with a steeper slope makes you often feel rather unsafe, it also gives you bad thigh burn. Your bones are there to give you support, not your muscles.
Keep your feet apart, about hip width. Try and keep your ankles, knees and hips all equally flexed. Hands should remain in front of you about hip height. Your bottom should be tucked under if you can, you should not have a hollow back. However when you ski do not think about your body posture all the time or it will make you a stiff and rigid. To improve your posture try jumping off a few small bumps; do not try to get lots of air, but make sure that when you land your weight is in the middle of your foot. You can feel your shins on the fronts of your boots.”

Serre Chevalier Ski Lessons can be booked online or by phone, but please do book well in advance of your Serre Chevalier holiday as Serre Chevalier Ski Schools do get very booked up during busy periods.

Each lesson has been great fun, so for the sake of this web site I asked Davina to write a few ‘online’ lessons for me to use online. Here’s an example of one of her online Ski lessons in Serre Chevalier:

“Bends zee knees!”. We have often heard this, but in fact we should think about flexing our ankles and feeling our shins in the fronts of the boots. Bending your knees makes you sit back, thus making you unbalanced and removing your shins from the fronts of the boots.
We need flexed ankles to allow us to play around with our edges. When our knees are pushed forward, our shins stay in contact with the tongues of our boots. We can therefore increase and equally decrease the amount of edge we wish to use, easily rolling our knees from side to side. This is essential to being a better and more skilful skier.
Flexing our ankles gives us slightly flexed legs, but also allows us to keep our hips roughly over the centre of our feet. (Unlike if you bend your knees and crouch as if you where sitting on the toilet, which places strain on our legs).
Flexed limbs are also stronger for all rotational movements which are useful for skiers. When you want to open a jam jar would you do it with a straight or flexed arm.

Ski lessons in Serre Chevalier by Davina Charignon and the Ski Connections team are easily bookable online or by phone.

There are a few ski schools in Serre Chevalier, but the most innovative is definately Ski Connections.
Serre Chevalier Ski School ESF still proves to be the favourite amongst the french, but Ski Connections is different in that they are interested in the ‘foreign’ market too. All the ski instructors speak English and French and some even speak Italian and German too. But, I guess as you are reading this then your preferential language is English.
Ski lessons in Serre Chevalier can begin at the office in Villeneuve (Serre Chevalier 1400), but it is much better to meet your instructor on the slopes so you can get skiing straightaway.
In the past clients of other Serre Chevalier Ski School companies have often complained that they were in large groups and the instructor just said “follow me and bend zee knees”, this helps no one. Ski lessons in Serre Chevalier that are provided by Ski Connections are in small groups and each member of the group will get personal instruction to make their skiing better.
Ski School Serre Chevalier lessons can be booked online via the form or you can call. We suggest you get in touch now online as ski lessons in Serre Chevalier can get very booked up especially in busy periods.
Serre Chevalier is one of the best places to ride in France. This great resort has heaps of major terrain: tight, open trees to weave, extreme drop-offs to get the adrenaline going, big bowls, countless banks and gullies, super-fast flats to push the hair back, hits everywhere, and a giant, natural funpark – all located next to a few unassuming, old-fashioned French villages (with a hint of the new here and there).

As one local rider once put it, ‘Who needs funparks when this place is a complete funpark at every level and distinction!’ It’s not the highest resort in the world, so snowcover can sometimes suffer, but things are usually pretty damn fine.

The boarding area runs along the Le Grand Serre Chevalier range with the large town of Briançon at one end and the old village of Le Monetier at the other. In between, the villages of Chantemerle and Villeneuve provide the most convenient access to the slopes and are the most popular with holidaymakers. The slopes around Briançon get a huge amount of sunshine although don’t get the snow cover of the other areas. Chantemerle and Villeneuve areas are the most popular and extensive areas, whereas you can always find some untracked spots in the less-popular Le Monetier.

A few years ago, the resort was purchased by the Compagnie des Alpes who own Tignes, Saas-fee, and Chamonix amongst others, and a lot of cash is set to be invested over the next five years to improve the already good lift system.

Once you’ve shredded all the trees you can head to La Grave in just 30 minutes, and Montgenevre isn’t far from Briançon.

Serre Chevalier (“Serre Che” to locals) is the collective name for 13 villages stretching 10 miles (15km) along the Guisane Valley. Regular visitors here appreciate the friendly atmosphere, relatively low prices, varied skiing and proximity to other ski resorts like La Grave. The four main ski stations are based around old villages and each have their own distinctive character. Briançon is a large working town, Chantemerle has a charming old centre with relatively contained new developments, Villeneuve is home to several large hotels and apartment blocks, as well as the largest concentration of lifts and Monêtier les Bains is a sleepy little hamlet, with some upmarket restaurants and a major new spa.

Here’s a little background from their site:

6 prestigious Alpine ski areas have adopted the Holiski technology to offer you the “Ski à la carte” formula: with your new hands-free pass, no need to queue or go on the Internet every time you want to buy a lift pass.

The chip in the pass works just like a contactless motorway card: it is detected automatically when you go through the ski lift turnstiles. The system records the days you ski and you automatically benefit from exclusive reductions.

Your annual pass designed and delivered by the resort of your choice, acts as proof of your annual subscription. It is valid from the day the first ski area opens until 30 September the following year.
