Moonlight Sonata

Seski love diversity of Oregon from noisy coastline to quiet lakes and forests. So much to do, Seski need another 150 years!

When moon hit high in the sky, Seski like to be asleep, dreaming of thick forests, race with Oregon Duck and all happy memories of Oregon state.

But Seski have recent opportunity to see moon in different light. Seski actually see the moon! Wow! Seski not realize moon so pretty and Seski get lost in reverie and then someone grab at Seski fur and suddenly Seski realize not alone. Seski sitting in canoe in the middle of a lake - with no life jacket - Seski never learn to swim (Seski usually stand in water and leave deeper waters to bigger fish!).

Friends from Wanderlust Tours not want to scare Seski so they take very good care and help Seski learn to move canoe with big stick. Seski think big stick useful next time Seski go up a creek (Wanderlust friends think that pretty funny).

Seski ask Wanderlust friends what happen if Seski want to stand up or dance to music in Seski head (like theme song from Oregon, Oregon). Friends react very loudly to sit still and not do anything or we soon make friends with fish. Seski not think that so bad so Seski...

... be nice to friends and help paddle back to shore (they seem to paddle faster than before).

On shore, there are fun stories by campfire and Seski learn a lot about the forests and the mountains. Seski mention next time there should be good story about friendly sasquatch who like to visit campfires... Friends look at Seski funny...

Seski Twisit Bend (Farewell Friend Duck!)

After good night sleep in comfy bed with comfy pillow (hope pillow not filled with friend Duck feathers!), Seski get big Hilton breakfast and head out towards mountains.

Seski ponder Seski-Gene experience and feel great friendship with foul feathered friend. Seski not yet learn to quack but Duck may learn Seski signature "Rowr" very soon!

Seski Tweet:

"Seski run into construction between Bend and Eugene so leave highway and take to forest trails. This cause confusion and delay. Seski sad."

So Seski see first paw change from Evergreen to Pine and now Seski can hide better in brownish colors (less wet too). Seski head to Old Mill district to do tax-free shopping (sneaky Seski not pay taxes on anything!). Seski see fish in nearby pond but before Seski can fish "old school" fisherpeople come with rods and reels and tell Seski to fly, then fish. Seski arms get very, very tired until fisherpeople explain "fish with flies" not "fish flying." They call Seski silly... Grrrr....

For now Seski not have luck with rod and reel so opt for more hearty food. Seski find Flatbread Pizza that have a lot of flavor for flat thing. Seski have to eat and run so not get to thank pizza people for yummiest meal Seski have for long time. Seski be back but for now Seski tummy full and need small Seski nap!

Very busy day for Seski as very old friends wait for Seski on old homestead at High Desert Museum. Seski remember good old days when help friends cut down trees with axe and put logs together for houses. Friends say to keep Seski out but Seski know how to open front door... Friends not think Seski that funny. rowr... Seski get to see lots of forest friends here too and lots of history that Seski remember very well. Seski love mixture of nature and history. Fills Seski with good feeling (or is that pizza???).

Oh such busy day for Seski with many memories. Seski have friends capture on film so all friends can see. Seski sad that Oregon 150 almost over. But so many happy memories for Seski. Here are more Seski memories:

Oregon great state Seski think. Seski friend wit Oregon govner name Ted. We laugh, we hike in woods, we talk 'bout things make Oregon best state for Seski to live. Sometimes we eat cake. Seski like cake. Seski wishes he had cake big enough for all Oregon to eat. Seski not kno how make tho. Ted say it bad idea Seski play with matches in woods. Last time Seski play with matches he make big fire and push into St Helens mountain. That go poorly. Seski just sled on mountain now instead.

Well, that all. You watch video of Seski and govner. Seski go play hopscotch with squirrels now. Bye for now.

I Am (Tired) Oregonian!

YAWN!

Seski get very comfortable rest with sounds of ocean that lull Seski into very deep and restful slumber. Seski wake up in Elizabeth Inn (not often Seski wake up with roof over head) but it nice to not have to shake sand out of fur.

After big breakfast (thanks to Ms. Elizabeth!) Seski start long walk to visit friends in Eugene. Seski have small hills to hike, forests to go through and rivers to cross (not going to Grandma's house) so be back in a little bit... Seski must walk far to complete I Am Oregonian but very environmental conscious and low carbon emissions (Seski not even know what that is).

Still walking... Seski start to hear lots of quacking, must be near..

Next thing know, Seski hanging upside down in tangle of lines and webbing and hard rock keep bumping Seski. Then friend from McKenzie Outfitters say "Welcome to Skinny Butte" and help Seski re-orient and figure out what going on. Seski Tweet:
Seski wonder why hanging upside down on rock so interesting. Then friend from McKenzie Outfitter help Seski hang right way. Go Ducks!

Couple of scrapes later, Seski head to Cascade Raptor Center where Seski realize that there are birds bigger than Seski... Seski watch sky more carefully from now on (one more thing for Seski to worry about falling from sky).
After many ruffled feathers and sneezes (feathers tickle), Seski run into old feathered friend Duck (wearing big "O" and lots of green). He look a lot like crazy character Seski see in cartoons, but this Duck even crazier. Click photo for slideshow!

Seski and Duck do lots of fun stuff together, we race at Hayward Field where famous Pre run fast (he run faster if Seski chasing him), we see University of Oregon campus buildings with history almost as old as Seski, we hang out with friends at Museum of Natural and Cultural History and see lots of things Seski remember from olden, golden days. Seski think funny when Duck with feet bigger than Seski challenge to race. You see for yourself (observe how friends create confusion and delay for Seski and Duck):

Seski not get tired of saying that. Specially when cool ocean breeze mixes with bright, warm sunshine.

Seski leave Yaquina (need to find native american friend to help Seski understand what that mean) and head toward smell of barley and hops. Seski usually dry and put in bowl with fresh milk, but friends at Rogue Brewery have other ideas. Seski like those other ideas.

Seski get tour of lots of big metal cans that have what tour guide call "beer." Seski try to jump in metal can to swim in beer but tour guide panic and say beer not for swimming. Seski think it funny that tour guide not know Seski doesn't like swimming and was big Seski joke. Tour guide not think it funny. So Seski offer to buy him beer and that make tour guide happy. Then Seski realize not carry money which make tour guide not happy. Seski can't win sometimes...

So Seski head down road for hugs and kisses from flipper friends (no, not friend Flipper, he crazy dolphin). Seski go to Oregon Coast Aquarium and run into many people who get in way. But they want photo with Seski (Seski not make it to coast too often so many think Seski quite the spectacle).

Seski talk about and why Seski want to prove I Am Oregonian with friends from all over. Seski think Washington friends want to be Oregonian too. Many people listen and many want to stay in touch with Seski. Seski think Oregonians a very friendly lot, those non-Oregonians even become friendly when in Oregon.

Seski get to see all sorts of new friends who live on sand and big water. Seski go in tubes that let Seski walk through water and not get wet. Seski a bit closetphobic but see light at end of tunnel so feel better about experience that very tubular. Many feathered friends have big wings to take advantage of ocean breezes. Seski thing big wings also give big hugs so Seski try to see who give biggest hug (Seski not win...)

But soon Seski get a big surprise (big, sloppy, wet, tickly surprise) when go to see flippered friend Lea. She very affectionate and not scared of Seski which make Seski happy. Friend Lea give Seski kiss and Seski thank Lea and tell Lea about big adventure at aquarium. Seski have fun and time go by very quickly so time for Seski to go see more of Newport (Seski wonder if ever called Oldport?).

First Steps - Lighthouse Have Too Many Stairs

Seski think there one good reason to get shoes, not snow, not mud, not rain puddles... it sand.

But Seski digress. Week of tour through Oregon give Seski lots of blisters but also lots of hugs and smiles so Seski not mind the blisters (they heal and hugs and smiles are forever).

Seski start by heading west until Seski see big water with no land on other side (and no tree log to cross over). Friends say this is the Specific ocean and Seski ask "what so specific about it?" This make friends laugh and laugh until Seski shake them upside down so they stop laughing. Then Seski laugh.

Seski meet lots of new friends in Newport. That seem logical, new friend new port. Lots of new stuff for Seski. Friend Lorna give Seski big hug and send off with friends to Yaquina Head Lighthouse so Seski can fix light and save ships. Not really.

Seski impressed with white tower standing alone to protect boats from crashing into rocky Oregon coast. It seem a little lonely and Seski sometimes feel the same. But lots of people come to see tower and climb the windy stairs (ooh, make Seski dizzy).

Seski like to stand on edge of cliff and feel salty wind stream through Seski fur. Seski close eyes and feel like Seski "king of the world!"

Seski see funny spyglass and look through but see nothing except big blubbery things swimming in water (friends explain these big powerful creatures on migration called whales, Seski not interested).

Seski meet lots of nice people, even those in purple. Seski get to meet old friend Mr. Lighthouse Keeper and we relive memories of long time ago (Seski have many years under belt - if Seski wore one). Seski on road a lot this week. Seski may need to give Dr. Scholls a call to see if he is gellin' as Seski may not be.

Seski want to share full itinerary with friends. Friends Sean and Alisha still working away on details but Seski think no more details needed.

Seski Start I Am Oregonian in Grants Pass

I am Oregonian.

Actually, Seski is sasquatch, but Oregon and Oregonians treat Seski with respect, Seski like Oregon to be home.

Oregon 150 Challenge fun, er... challenge for Seski (that redundant?). Seski take compass down to Grass Pants and explore the area.

Seski start walking through lots of doors with pretty pictures but Seski keep bonking head on door and no one open door for Seski. Seski sad until realize door not supposed to open but simply to look at.

Then Seski imagination take over and Seski get to warm by campfire, chased by mountain lions and wolves, gaze on true blue of Crater water and cool in mist of super tall falls in gorge. Where does your imagination take you?

Then Seski wander down to river's edge (not live in van down by river). Big blue boats sit in water and friends from Hellgate Jetboats invite for ride. Seski nervous. Pine needles and dirt under Seski feet feel good, not feel same about cold, fast, deep water (Seski look at Crater water, not get in).

Seski get acclimated to blue boat and practice tying knots. That make Seski knotty (ROWR!).

Captain not watching so Seski sneak away with boat and feel need for speed. Captain not happy with Seski but Seski bigger than captain so everyone still friends.

Seski Blaze Trail Despite Thunder Distraction

Seski like cold clear nights. Keep Seski sense alive. But friend Blaze invite to watch game against Thunder so Seski had to catacombs of Rose Garden and surprise Oregon friends to share Oregon150 story.

In catacombs, Seski see people bigger than Seski. Seski see challenge! But end up all nice people who like running, jumping, playing. Make good friends for Seski. Seski thing Odin a Norse God but end up being really tall human. Seski think can dunk on Odin (Seski fur act as distraction).

Blaze surprise Seski with gift of jersey with special number "150." Seski feel very old. Oregon feel old? Blaze cool cat, but avoid if he carrying pie...

Seski laugh very hard when seeing young Bill. Remember Bill from Rip City dayz and he much shorter now. Wonder where son Luke is? (he on bench for enemy team?)

Seski get to spend time with Oregon friends and spread rumor of big birthday for state.

Rainy Day Keep Seski in Pendleton

Seski love rain but now Seski have special tool to snuggle and stay warm.

Seski think sheep good for not just eating grass and making white cloud shapes on green pastures.

Blanket special made for Oregon150 by Pendleton Woolen Mills.

Only problem not good for hiding in forest. Blue and white not blend well with brown and green. Seski not mind. Find Seski and stay warm and dry together.

Seski visit grand old hotel (Governor Hotel) downtown to visit friends helping Seski with social widgets and gidgets.

Oregon150 team present to American Marketing Association. Show Seski strategy to share experience around state. Twittr, Facebook, Pikasa, Utube, all interactive fun. Maybe Seski map? Friends surprised to see Seski, make Seski happy.

Civil War

Seski not understand what Civil War about. Seski not see war, only see everyone be civil (and some very happy people). Seski get to see Corvallis and dance with Beaver and Duck.

Lots of orange colors remind Seski of Fall colors but weather too warm for this time of year. Seski sweat!

Wander Wine Country

Seski wander through Red Hills of Dundee to work off big turkey dinner (Seski think funny that Turkey get stuffed then Seski get stuffed).

Roads very crowded with people cars going to holiday events. Seski wander to visit friend Alison and Alex at Sokol-Blosser and feel very cheery even in dark room with happy lights, friends and big glasses.

Too early for Seski to taste wine (give Seski funny feeling) but now have start of wine cellar (thank you Alison and Alex).

Seski wonder what other wine should add to wine collection?

OK to store wine under tree roots and hole in ground? Seski friends give advice?Start to rain on Seski so wrap up in warm woolen blanket and head back for sleep. Tomorrow big day for Seski...

I have been looking for a new home outside Corvallis, and want to people so I can find home. Even though the name scares me, I go to Cival war game. Anyone have tiket i can use? Its first football game, and I look forward. Not sure rule, but try to learn. I love both the duck and the beaver, and too bad they have to war.

Seski's Oregon Story

My name Seski. I was born in Oregon woods in 1859, same year as Oregon became state. Can you believe? Our birthdays, same. Now I have 150 birthday. We celebrate together. Adults have Pinot Noir and marionberry juice for kids. And cake. I like cake.

In 1905, grand celebration. Called the Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition. Very amazing. I friend of Meriwether Lewis. Clark I beat in tiddlywink game. Then he not so friendly to Seski. At party, I try move into Forestry Building. Too many visitors. No meditation time for Seski. I like meditate.

100 birthday in 1959. Very amazing time. We make totem pole and Paul Bunyan statue. I like sculpture.

Throughout years, put hairy hand into many of Oregon’s accomplish. I help Blazers win 77’ champion. I cause Mount St. Helens erupt because I use it for hot tub. You enjoy microbrews? My invention. I like them.

I am excited for 150 birthday. I am modern Seski. I have Twitter. I have Facebook. Please friend Seski. I like computer.

And for now 150 I want to hear you. I am in forest checking website. Tell me story. Tell Oregon why you love. Please involve self. Seski wants biggest celebrate for this 150. My birthday. Your birthday. I like Oregon. I really like you too.
