MX is defined in RFC 1035. It specifies the name and relative preference of mail servers for the zone. MX is a DNS record used to define the host(s) willing to accept mail for a given domain. I.e. an MX record indicates which computer is responsible for handling the mail for a particular domain.

http://we-fixed-it.blogspot.com

By giving a second netmask, you can design subnets and supernets. It is also intended to be a teaching tool and presents the subnetting results as easy-to-understand binary values.

Enter your netmask(s) in CIDR notation (/25) or dotted decimals (255.255.255.0). Now a domain buyer may
choose between these various sites at various rates for basically
the same service.

So why does it matter where you buy your domain names?

No two registrars are the same. They vary in price, services
offered, ease of use, management system, etc. This is why which
registrar to go with is an important decision

view source: Choosing A Domain Registrar (Dan Grossman)
http://we-fixed-it.blogspot.com

However, recently one 386th ECS systems administrator has found a unique use for those worn out hard drives.

Miguel Rivera has been using the pieces from old hard drives to create a collection of distinctive sculptures. So far he has constructed two different cars, a fat-boy motorcycle and a robot.

"I just started making them just a few months ago," said Mr. Rivera, who has worked in the 386th ECS for the past five years. "We had a growing pile of hard drives just lying around the shop. One day I decide to take one apart since I'd never looked at the guts up close before. That's pretty much how it all started."

His first sculpture, a car-like vehicle, was built over one full weekend from standard 3.5-inch hard drives. It took a total of 33 hard drives to make, including 32 gutted for the discs and one for the main body.

"The first one wasn't really difficult to put together since I didn't have to modify much other than the cover," said Mr. Rivera. "Everything else just screwed on."

His second sculpture was another miniature car, and the difficulty of construction was very similar to the first, said Mr. Rivera. His third piece, a fat-boy motorcycle, was a bit more difficult.

"I just couldn't get parts to mix well at first to reflect the look I wanted. It took many hours of taking apart pieces and putting them back together to get it right," said Mr. Rivera. "From start to finish I think the bike took me three full weekends. I added a pair of dog tags given to me by a Navy chaplain as a tribute to our selfless troops."

Mr. Rivera said his favorite sculpture is the robot he built.

http://we-fixed-it.blogspot.com

The 642-661 BGP exam tests material covered under the Configuring BGP on Cisco Routers (BGP) v 3.1 course. The BGP exam assesses a candidate's understanding of the theory of BGP, ability to configure BGP on Cisco IOS routers, and skills with troubleshooting on BGP. As a routing protocol, BGP is one of the underlying foundations of the Internet and new-world technologies.

EXAM TOPIC:

The following information provides general guidelines for the content likely to be included on the BGP exam. It is not necessary to set any jumpers, terminators, or other settings on this drive for proper operation. The jumper block adjacent to the SATA interface connector on SATA 150MB/s drives is for factory use only. The jumper block adjacent to the SATA interface connector on SATA 300MB/s drives can be used to force the drive into SATA 150MB/s mode for use with older SATA controllers that only work with SATA 150MB/s drives.

With a Serial ATA interface, each disk drive has its own cable that connects directly to a Serial ATA host adapter or a Serial ATA port on your motherboard. Unlike Parallel ATA, there is no master-slave relationship between drives that use a Serial ATA interface.

You can use a Serial ATA drive in the same system with Parallel ATA drives as long as both interfaces are supported on the motherboard or with a host adapter. This makes it easy to add Serial ATA compatibility to your existing system without removing existing Parallel ATA disk drives.

* Installation in a Windows System
* Installation in a Macintosh System

Installation in a Windows System
Note: For a slideshow of the Serial ATA installation process, please visit our Serial ATA Installation Basics page.
What You Need

* A Phillips screwdriver and four 6-32 UNC drive mounting screws.
* A Serial ATA interface cable (sold separately). Maximum length is 39 inches (1 meter).
* A Serial ATA-compatible power cable or adapter (sold separately).
* A version of Windows with FAT32 or NTFS file system.
* A system with a motherboard that has a Serial ATA connector on it, or a Serial ATA host adapter and available PCI slot in which to install the adapter.

http://we-fixed-it.blogspot.com

I want to use my computer and phone anytime, from anywhere, and with anyone. I want it all and when it is convenient for me. I honestly don’t feel too bad about this selfish streak since everyone I know wants the same things from the network. Most people don’t care about problems that result from sharing the network – they just want unlimited and uninterrupted access.

To meet this need, the Internet, public services and many corporate networks are moving to IPv6, a newer version of basic IP protocol. Why is there such a need to change when the existing standard, IPv4, is still running our networks just fine? Well, quite frankly, the world is running out of IPv4 addresses. Current fixes to share IPv4 addresses among users and devices cause performance, scalability and reliability problems as new devices and new video, voice, and collaborative applications become pervasive.

What’s the difference between IPv4 and IPv6?

First and foremost IPv6 extends the number of addresses significantly. The Internet, based on the venerable IPv4 packet format, has been burning most of the available addresses (roughly 4 billion) in its first 25 years of existence. IPv6 enhances the length of the address field from 32 bits to 128 bits, resulting in enough addresses to cope with the growth of the Internet for centuries to come, and enabling true borderless connectivity (anybody, anything, anywhere, anytime).

source from: ipv6 that network is mine

http://we-fixed-it.blogspot.com

For this reason, this piece will be routinely updated with new models and new feedback from your comments.

Below are the Four Primary Business Models in the social networking space that I’ve experienced–they primarily are concerned with Facebook Applications. There may be others, or extensions of these, or even ideas out there that have yet to be tested yet are profoundly viable. All additions are welcomed.

by vinturedig nov.1, 2009
http://we-fixed-it.blogspot.com

You might try Facebook itself, of course, but the clash of business and personal communications could leave your vacation photos mingling with company news, and could lead to a lot of goofing off on company time. Instead, turn to a social network platform to make your own distinct site. Many services, including Grou.ps and SocialGO, offer functionality similar to that of Facebook; but in this tutorial I'll focus on Ning, which has been established for a few years and offers customization tools that can make your site behave almost any way you want.
Within your company, you could rely on a Ning social network to maintain schedules for anything from managing workgroup projects to organizing an office softball team. Calendar tools, blog-style posts, comments, and other systems could help connect people. Black

Win32 Vundo.H, a new variation of the Vundo Trojan Virus, is a notoriously malicious Trojan virus that severely affects the operation of your pc. It blankets your pc with a lot of infuriating advertising pop-ups of fraudulent antivirus downloads. The Vundo virus commonly causes denial of service errors while surfing Yahoo and other secure websites. It attacks major internet browsers like IE (Internet Explorer), Mozilla Firefox, and Opera.

The Vundo Virus is a difficult removal due to the fact that it resides in your pcs active processes through an internet executable file. After that, it secures itself within IE and the Winlogin processes.

It is often a struggle to close your administrator windows logon processes. This is why when you attempt to remove its DLL files you receive a message reading that the file is in use.

Even when you are successful in removing pieces of the the trojan, it will swiftly re-install with every boot. The Vundo Virus is known for making a lot of DLL processes labeled by eight random lower and upper case numbers, symbols, and letters which might get found with your spyware protection software instead of the infected DLL program.

http://we-fixed-it.blogspot.com

Based on my own experience and my observations of several other Mail users, I've compiled a list of seven truly helpful features that often go unnoticed (applicable to both Leopard and Snow Leopard versions of Mail).
1. The Photo Browser

I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to mail someone a photo, and my first impulse was to launch iPhoto (and then drag an image into Mail or use iPhoto's Share -> Email command). But there's a quicker and easier way. In Mail, just choose Window -> Photo Browser. A floating window appears instantly, showing the complete contents of your iPhoto library. Locate the picture you want, drag it into a message window, and you're done.

2. Plain Text

This may be a bit of a personal bias, but I like to receive e-mail in plain text (so that I get to decide what font, size, style, and color messages use). I also like to extend that courtesy to others. Mail uses Rich Text by default for outgoing messages, but you can change this by choosing Mail -> Preferences, clicking on the Composing icon on the toolbar, and choosing Plain Text from the Message Format menu. (To change the format for an individual message, choose Format -> Make Rich Text or Format -> Make Plain Text.) To force incoming mail to display in plain text by default (which isn't possible for all messages), you need to quit Mail, open Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities) and enter the following command: defaults write com.apple.mail PreferPlainText -bool TRUE. To switch to styled text (if available) when viewing a plain-text message, choose View -> Message -> Best Alternative.

3. Multiple From addresses

If an e-mail account has more than one valid From address (for example, if you use jk@example.com as an alias to joekissell@example.com), you can configure Mail to let you use any of those addresses when sending a given message from that account. First, choose Mail -> Preferences, click on the Accounts icon on the toolbar, select your account, and click on Account Information. Then, in the E-mail Address field, enter all the addresses you might use with that account, separated by commas. Close the Preferences window and click on Save. Now, when you compose a new message, you can choose any of those addresses from the From pop-up menu below the Subject field.

4. Activity window

Does Mail seem to take an awfully long time to check or send messages? If you're curious to know what it's up to behind the scenes, choose Window -> Activity (Command-0) to display a floating window showing each operation Mail is currently performing. You can stop any given activity by clicking on its Stop icon.

5. Connection Doctor

If you encounter problems sending or receiving mail, you don't need to guess at the nature of the problem. Find out exactly what's wrong by choosing Window -> Connection Doctor. Mail then checks each of your incoming and outgoing account connections, and displays a window with a plain English description of any problems it found, usually with advice for fixing them.

6. Send Again

Suppose you sent a message to a bunch of people and you realize you forgot someone. Instead of opening the message in your Sent mailbox, copying its contents, and pasting it into a new message, just select the message, choose Message -> Send Again (Command-Shift-D), and replace the existing recipients with the new one(s). The subject and message contents remain the same as before (although you can edit them if you like).

7. Remove Attachments

Attachments--whether in messages you've received or copies of outgoing messages in your Sent mailbox--can chew up a lot of disk space. If you use an IMAP or Exchange account that imposes a storage quota, this can become a significant concern. Luckily, Mail can remove attachments from stored messages, and if you've already saved a copy of the attachments elsewhere, using this feature is a good idea. Locate one or more messages with attachments and choose Message -> Remove Attachments. Behind the scenes, Mail duplicates the message (omitting attachments) and deletes the original.

http://we-fixed-it.blogspot.com

I'll be using the network layout as shown below. Router 1 R1 FastEthernet 0 0 - 192.168.1.1 24loopback 0 - 172.16.10.0 24 Router 2 R2 FastEthernet 0 0 - 192.168.1.2 24FastEthernet 1 0 - 192.168.2.1 24 Router 3 R3 FastEthernet 0 0 - 192.168.2.2 24 About RIP First a bit about RIP. RIP is a distance vector dynamic routing protocol. That means it populates its routing table based on the routing updates its recieves from it's neighbors and it calculates the best path based on distance or hops . RIP comes in 2 versions, version 1 and version 2. RIP V1 has been around since the late 60's, is classless meaning it doesnt send subnet information, it has no authentication and it works by broadcasting the routes it knows about every 30 seconds. RIP V2 is classfull, supports authentication and uses multicast 224.0.0.9 . RIP is non-proprietry so it is supported on a range of equipment and not just cisco. RIP V1 and V2 both have an administrative distance of 120. Configuring RIP Okay, now the fun part. I'll be setting up RIP V2 in this post. The way RIP works is I enable it on my router, tell it to use version 2, and tell it what networks to advertise. To start with lets see what routes R1 knows already R1 show ip routeC 172.16.10.0 is directly connected, Loopback0C 192.168.1.0 24 is directly connected, FastEthernet0 0 Okay, so it knows about the directly connrected routes. What about R3 R3 show ip routeC 192.168.2.0 24 is directly connected, FastEthernet0 0 Great. No chance of pinging the 172.16.10.1 interface on R1 then. For this pinging business to be sucessfull I need to enable RIP V2 on all the routers. I then need to list all the networks that each router knows about. Like this. Router 1 R1 R1 config router ripR1 config-router version 2R1 config-router network 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0R1 config-router network 172.16.10.0 255.255.255.0 Router 2 R2 R2 config router ripR2 config-router version 2R2 config-router network 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0R2 config-router network 192.168.2.0 255.255.255.0 Router 3 R3 R1 config router ripR1 config-router version 2R1 config-router network 192.168.2.0 255.255.255.0 Great. Now i'll check R3 routing table. R3 show ip routeGateway of last resort is not setR 172.16.0.0 16 120 1 via 192.168.2.1, 00 00 17, FastEthernet0 0R 192.168.1.0 24 120 1 via 192.168.2.1, 00 00 17, FastEthernet0 0C 192.168.2.0 24 is directly connected, FastEthernet0 0 Brilliant. I can now see the routes to 172.16.0.0 network. And can I ping it R3 ping 172.16.10.1Type escape sequence to abort.Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 172.16.10.1, timeout is 2 seconds Success rate is 100 percent 5 5 , round-trip min avg max 60 72 92 ms So remember, you have to tell the router which networks you want to advertise and if you dont list the network which an interface is configured for, RIP won't advertise out of that interface.Lastly in this section I will cover how to turn off RIP propogating out of an Interface. This could be because you have RIP enabled but on of your interfaces is connected to a untrusted network for example. To prevent the propogation you wolud make the interface passive. You will still recieve RIP updates onthe interface bt will not send them. In the example below I'll prevent Router 2 from sending updates to Router 3. R2 config router ripR2 config-router version 2R2 config-router network 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0R2 config-router network 192.168.2.0 255.255.255.0R2 config-router passive-interface fastethernet 1 0 Configuring Authentication Below I am going to configure authentication on my RIP updates. What I noticed in my lab was as soon as I set this up on a router the remote routers lost all routes until they too were configured for authentication. So it seems that this is an all or nothing thing. Below I enter global config mode, create a keychain called homelab, a key, and I give the key a password of cisco. R1 configure terminalR1 config key chain homelabR1 config-keychain key 1R1 config-keychain-key key-string cisco Now I enter the interface configuration and, tell it what key chain I'm using and tell it to use MD5. This has to be done on each interface that RIP will be sent or received on. Also, each neighboring router needs to use the same key cisco as set up in the steps above. R1 configure terminalR1 config interface fastEthernet 0 0R1 config-if ip rip authentication key-chain homelabR1 config-if ip rip authentication mode md5R1 config-if end Running a show ip protocols lists what the router knows about the authentication you have configured. R2 show ip protocolsRouting Protocol is rip Outgoing update filter list for all interfaces is not set Incoming update filter list for all interfaces is not set Sending updates every 30 seconds, next due in 3 seconds Invalid after 180 seconds, hold down 180, flushed after 240 Redistributing rip Default version control send version 2, receive version 2 Interface Send Recv Triggered RIP Key-chain FastEthernet0 0 2 2 homelab FastEthernet1 0 2 2 homelab Automatic network summarization is in effect Maximum path 4 Routing for Networks 172.16.0.0 192.168.1.0 192.168.2.0 Routing Information Sources Gateway Distance Last Update 192.168.2.2 120 00 08 39 192.168.1.1 120 00 00 03 Distance default is 120 Troubleshooting RIP The commands that I have found useful in helping to troubleshoot RIP are R1 show ip protocolsRouting Protocol is rip Outgoing update filter list for all interfaces is not set Incoming update filter list for all interfaces is not set Sending updates every 30 seconds, next due in 25 seconds Invalid after 180 seconds, hold down 180, flushed after 240 Redistributing rip Default version control send version 2, receive version 2 Interface Send Recv Triggered RIP Key-chain FastEthernet0 0 2 2 Loopback0 2 2 Automatic network summarization is in effect Maximum path 4 Routing for Networks 172.16.0.0 192.168.1.0 Routing Information Sources Gateway Distance Last Update 192.168.1.2 120 00 00 20 Distance default is 120 In the output above there are a bunch of timers Update, Invalid, Holddown and Flush . The company has now launched a new wireless router for the Indian market, the ASUS RT-N16.

Engineered for the future, the Asus RT-N16 is a Wireless-N Gigabit Router offering three “S’s” that fulfill users’ all-around networking needs that no other brand can provide: Speed for ultra-fast data transfers; Simplicity for unparalleled ease-of-use and ease-of-setup; and Security for absolute peace of mind when performing online tasks.

“At Asus, we constantly try to provide our customers with products that incorporate unique innovations along with the latest technology to offer our customers not just a regular hardware solution but something that extends its utility beyond traditional realms. With the introduction of the RT-N16 we have not just developed a robust router but bundled it with utilities like the Ez-UI and WPS support; features that our customers will greatly benefit from,” said Mr. Vinay Shetty, Country Head - Component Business, ASUS (India).

The company further elucidated the three “S’s”:

Speed: With a maximum wireless speed throughput of 300Mbps and 8 times faster operation, the ASUS RT-N16’s data transfer performance is outstanding. It also enables 24/7 downloads to wireless clients even when PCs are turned off.

Simplicity: The ASUS RT-N16 is equipped with an innovative EZ UI which lets administrators easily setup and manage their network environments. Home and business users can seamlessly allocate bandwidth to suit their specific needs, share multimedia content and setup printer or scanner functions.

Security: With support for WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup), the ASUS RT-N16 lets users set up secure Wi-Fi Networks within minutes and lock down the network to prevent potential intrusion by unauthorised outsiders.

Author: Mihir Patkar / Sep 16, 2009 14:55:27 IST / Tags: Wi-Fi, networking, Asus RT-N16, wireless router, gigabit router, Vinay Shetty, EZ UI, Wi-Fi Protected Setup

http://we-fixed-it.blogspot.com
