THIS & THAT

2013-10-25T16:14:00.002-05:00

Hello! I haven't updated this blog in quite some time, electing to share things elsewhere. In the interest of avoiding redundancy with my other social media outlets, I will return to this blog & devote it specifically to art & as much process goodness as I can; maybe even some tutorials.
I have some new comic pages (sequentials) coming up, so THIS will be the place for THAT.
More soon, great to be back into production.

Daredevil vs. the Ani-Men

This commission was originally to be a personal homage to Wally Wood, but as I got more into the textures & mood I wanted, it became closer to resembling Al Williamson. This is what the late, great Bob Ross would've referred to as a "happy accident". This is total Saturday Morning goodness to myself & I can't help but think of the Thundercats here for some reason.

5 x 7" First watercolor I've done in quite some time, & really just a color sketch.

Clan of the Twisty Bendy Straw

That's right: 4" tall pink ninjas. No more ridiculous than Spongebob Squarepants, right? I want to see these guys life-size as action figures. Someone make that happen & send me royalty checks, please :)

SKETCHBOOK

So far, so what...?

2010-01-23T13:07:00.003-06:00

Another set of sketches for the children's book- I felt the kids were too cartoony but I was mostly trying to decide upon their hairstyles, whereas my daughter felt the Tokebas (little monkey men) weren't cartoony & silly enough. We both felt they look too much like small chimps with bad hair! The dragon is very straightforward as a monitor lizard at this point & will go through many alterations later on from this basic bodytype that I just had to nail down first.

Again- all my concept drawings are subject to the approval of an 8 year old, but I've had editors that give less direction & make less sense ;)

More Eowyn & Damien... & a boat

2010-01-21T23:46:00.003-06:00

I could keep drawing their heads from every angle with every imaginable expression, but at this point it really is time to start testing colors & seeing how these figures mesh within some environments.

Initial designs of some characters/ creatures... sometimes this is about getting the bad designs out on paper in order to move on to better ones :)
