The paper argues that, contrary to common assumption, siblings have been well noted in clinical material. The reason why we pay them no attention and only ‘re-discover’ them from time to time is that they have no autonomous place in psychoanalytical theory. It suggests that what the author labels the ‘sibling trauma’ could constitute a foundational moment for their placement in the metapsychology which need to be developed along a horizontal axis. After examining this, it proposes that the rite of passage that follows a generic trauma of this kind leads directly into social life, a social life that is gendered, but differently from the ‘sexual difference’ initiated by the castration complex.

The article analyses the peculiar and complex relationship between Freud and the figure of Moses. During his journeys to Rome, that he often postponed, Freud used to stand for hours in front of Michelangelo’s sculpure. The Viennese man recognized in Moses the personification of the power of Ego, which is able to repress and dominate the drives. In his work Moses and Monotheism - whose publication was postponed for a long time - Freud traced Moses’ life back to the primogenial myth of the patricide and identified the prophet with the non Jewish founder of the Jewish identity. Based on the hypothesis of an Egyptian Moses, the work suggests a theory which is outrageous for the Jewish world, but at the same time convincing and recently reproposed by archaeology and Egyptology. Freud identifies himself with Moses and perceives himself like the founder of psychoanalysis, the new "religion" that he aimed at setting free from the identification with the Jewish world. In the relationship with Moses, non Jewish father of Judaism, Freud also lives the intense and conflictual relationship with his own father. Apart from the anthropological, religious and clinical psychoanalytic issues, Freud’s work is striking for its extraordinary boldness and intellectual freedom.

The Author suggests by various arguments that the usefulness of tests in the clinical field is overestimated nowadays, where they should be referred to in particular cases; on the contrary, tests are relevant to research. On one hand, he acknowledges the importance of categorial and dimensional diagnosis, on the other he stresses its provisional value for psychoanalysis (it can be reviewed along the treatment thanks to new understandings) and, first of all, its embrication with the developing clinical relationship and process. Therefore, diagnostic and therapeutical process should not be strictly distinguished. Then, the paper shows the parameters which the psychoanalytic diagnosis requires: istinctual points of "fixation", defence mechanisms, kinds of object relations, Self organization, reality sense and, particularly, transference and countertransference
