• Dress
  • Ever since I watched Batman: The Animated Series as a kid, Harley Quinn has been a favorite of mine. So once I saw this dress from Hot Topic around Halloween, I knew it needed to be a permanent part of my wardrobe. Although they don’t carry the dress anymore, luckily, you can still get your hands on it thanks to Thinkgeek.

  

• Leggings and Jacket
  
  • I knew the dress would stand out on it’s own, but wanted to pair it with some leggings and a bolero style jacket. I went with a simple black for both. I picked up the leggings at Target for about $10, and the jacket I already had on hand.

• Accessories
  • One of my favorite accessories right now are waist belts, and this dress design definitely lends itself well to one. This is the belt I picked up at Forever21, but this one, or this one would look great too!
  • Even though the Joker is Harley’s main squeeze, I couldn’t help but wear this blinged out Batman necklace from Hot Topic. I love the size and sparkle it provides, and it plays off great against the belt.

  

• Shoes
  
  • Every outfit needs a pair of cute shoes, and these one have it in spades. Although fairly simple, the black bows really add to the look. Luckily, Scruffy let me borrow them for the outfit, but here’s a pair that are pretty similar.

This week’s look is all about showing off your Gallifreyan side, in true bold, geeky style.

Get This Look:

• Top
  • While I almost always wear tunic and tank style tops with my leggings, this blouse is refreshing change when you want a classic dressy casual look. It’s an ideal top choice to add to the 10th Doctor vibe when worn with the tie since he wore a white collared shirt.

• Vest
  • I’ve had this vest in my closet for years and almost never wear it. I was inspired to pair it with the Police Box leggings as it was the closest thing in my closet that gave off a 11th Doctor coat vibe, and in the end I just liked how it looked with the outfit with or without the tie on.

• Leggings
  • I’m pretty sure every female Doctor Who fan’s heart (both of them!) skipped a beat when Black Milk released a print tantalizing called “Police Box“. Offered as both a dress and a pair of leggings, I’m sure many of you, like me, bought both! This print is great because, while bold and vivid in color and design, it’s also a bit on the subtle side in terms of screaming “GEEK”. You’d need to be at least a little familiar with the series to know what you’re looking at. As with most of my looks, if the leggings are loud, I keep the rest of the ensemble simple to avoid overloading the look.

• Shoes
  • I’ve worn these shoes before, with my Captain America and Ewok looks. Brown is a great color to have in your shoe collection, especially for geek-themed clothing. I never thought I would get this much use out of a pair of brown sandals! You can find great shoes at places like DSW and Target, just keep an eye on their discounted and clearance selections to really come away with a great deal on some fabulous footwear.

• Accessories
  • Indy Magnoli produces a vast array of movie replica clothing. A well-known piece from them is their replica of the tie the 10th Doctor wore in episodes like “The Girl in the Fireplace”. It’s a beautiful design, recognizable by many a fan. While obviously a truly “male” accessory, I love ties because they are a fun and unique accessory to incorporate into a female wardrobe. Pairing this tie with the Police Box leggings is a very simple, yet sharp and automatically recognized way to show your love of Doctor Who.
  • The fantastic line of Doctor Who jewelry that was released by Harlequin Goldsmiths came out after I put this look together and did these photos. I think a great final touch to this look would be to add a pair of their Dalek earrings!

Materials Needed:

• Wonderflex
• Fabric of choice
• Glue
• Binder clips
• Scissors
• Heat gun
• Velcro

First you’ll want to measure around your wrist the determine the length you’re going to need. Mine is about 7 inches. Now, you can either create a bracelet that’s open and just slips on, or you have the option you close it with something like velcro. That will determine how long you make it. I added 1″ since I wanted to make a closed bracelet. Once you have the length, you can determine how wide you’ll want it to be. Mine was determined by the fabric print I used.

What I typically do next is I create a paper template to figure out my pattern.

Once you have your template done, you’ll need to trace it onto your Wonderflex. Use a sturdy pair of scissors to cut out your shape.

Now comes the fun part. Take your heat gun and slowly start to heat up the Wonderflex. You’ll find that with heat it becomes kind of flimsy which means it’s mold-able. However, it doesn’t tend to get super hot, you can typically use your hands to shape it, but please use caution since you are using a heating tool.

I decided to use a bottle to wrap around for the shape. If you find that one layer of Wonderflex isn’t strong enough, you can cut out a second layer for added thickness. The great thing is, you just have to heat up the pieces and push them together and they will “glue” themselves together.

Once your Wonderflex has cooled down, you can remove it from what you were shaping it around. Now, for the fabric. The elasticity of your fabric will determine how it’s attached. If you have a stretchy fabric like spandex, you can just wrap it to the underside of your bracelet and glue that way. If it’s less stretchy, you may need to use glue on the front side.

For the none stretchy fabric, I just added some e6000 around the edge of my wonderflex. You’ll want to make sure that you don’t use a hot glue for this because it will melt the plastic. After that, I used small binder clips around the edges so that the glue could set completely overnight.

To give my bracelet a more complete look, I added fabric to the underside.One thing I would probably have changed is made the fabric wide enough that I could wrap it to the backside. However, since I didn’t I just trimmed the edges before adding the fabric to the back.

Now, if you made a closed version bracelet, here’s when you would attach the velcro. I used a sticky back version since that’s what I had on hand, but you could also just use glue and regular velcro, similar to what you did with the fabric. I also binder clipped the velcro on to make sure it was secured to the fabric.

You can either call it done, or add some decorative elements like rhinestones or glitter if you want. Now you have a fun geeky bracelet!

While this tutorial may not be applicable to everyone, I hope that it gives you ideas on what you can create with just items you have on hand. I plan on making a part two to this tutorial so you can really see why a thermoplastic might be a great was to make accessories.

• Leggings
  • I picked up these Woman in Red leggings during Black Milk’s black Friday sale last year, and they’re probably one of the items I get complimented on the most. Since I tend to go with darker colors for leggings, it was fun to get something so colorful. Plus, with a comic motif, you definitely can’t go wrong!

  

• Dress
  • Because the leggings were so colorful, I chose to pair them with a black dress so the they would be the star of the outfit. This jersey tank dress from Old Navy fit the bill, and is super comfy to boot!

  

• Accessories & Shoes
  
  • You might have noticed the theme I went with for this outfit… Red! Since the leggings had so many pops of red in it, I decided to carry that over into the accessories and shoes. The belt was something I found at Forever21 and the necklace I had on hand.
  • The shoes are the same ones I wore for this outfit. I do think that a pair of red heels could really dress up the look.
