It was a short but very fun day.
Three Napoleonic chic jackets were sold. I still have a few in stock, the brown, the green, the golden ones featured in the last tow postings are still up for grabs. Last minute purchase before departing to the flats in 10 days?

I am envious of all leaving for the Playa at the end of this week. I wish you all the best time ever! I will be sure to go to Joshua Tree and be with friends who like me will not be watching our man burn. I created a yahoo groups to list all events happening in Baja and Southern California where creative people like me would have a chance to sell what they made. So far I have 15 members and all events I know of are listed. The Group name is Baja Bohemians.

Lately, Hubby and I have been busy going to shows and selling. Here are a few pictures of what is new in my Work in Closet.

The hat was sold that day but the bustle and vest are still available.

A kitten loved my display and fell asleep in the cat bed.

The furry vests and hats are very popular here in Baja. The opening I went to last Friday night was one presenting Ernesto Munoz Acosta, not Esau Andrade as previously thought.

Senor Munoz donated 90 some pieces of monumental art to CEARTE. Every piece needs a year to absorb, or so it seemed to me. I LOVE mixed media and wow! This man is the God of mixed media. I told him so. He was quiet after that. I hope I did not offend him. He is such a humble man. His art is composed of items found in the trash, giveways and segundas( thrift stores). Frames within frames within frames, some of which are so deliciously gawdy!
http://vimeo.com/19235968

Back at the work-in-closet, I am inspired, I have composed four new little skirts/ bussles. The days were very short and somehow the winter light wasn't very helpful to get me in to the work in closet. No inspiration. No real want to create.

My daughters sent me patterns for Christmas and I used one to make six purses with upholstery remnants. They look great! I sold one very quickly.

Then, the date for the San Diego Burningman Film Festival (www.sdbmff.com) got closer and panic struck! The work-in-closet greeted me every morning for long hours for ten days prior to the show!
The show was a reward to my ego. Great attendance and friends were happy to see the difference in my creations and congratulated me on my personal growth.
The work in closet will see more of me this week as I get ready for another show in March!

The last one to sell was made of cammo fabric and polar fleece! I made 7 of them today to refurbish my stock. I am good to go for a little while.

Other than that, I have piled fabrics in 2 big trash bags. This is upholstery fabric I do not think I would use for a while. The scraps are folded and organized. I am going to give them away! HUH????? I cannot believe it either but one can only store so much fabric and be able to walk around her cutting table.

The recipient, a lady who lives here who's unemployment has run out. Time to get creative and make cute things to supplement her husband's income. She proudly told me she has made 2 purses. She was having the "blank page syndrome". She was also looking for excuse not to begin... Hubby and I encouraged her to dive into the craft items she has and go for it. Tomorrow I will drop off these bags of goodies and hopefully they will inspire her further!

Meanwhile, I feel a load off my shoulders, 2 bags of fabric worth. I still have so much to work with, so many ideas and here I am on the computer. More to organize in the Work In Closet. What a treat! I step into the Work in Closet from my bedroom, or go around the house and through its own door.

The Work in Closet is now stuffed with fabric. There is no echo in that room. Although it feels real cozy, it is a mess. I have emptied bags and populated the shelves with their content, fabric! I have sorted it by colors. Good start, but there is still much more to do.

Sewing? I have been doing that with my eyes closed since for some reason doggy suits are very popular right now! I have sold 5 in the past week. I will sell 4 tomorrow and there is someone who needs another 3. The great part about this is that it helps increase the funds for spay and neutering dogs and cats in our neighborhood!

Once those doggy suit orders are complete, I will go back to creating hip belts and belt skirts. I need lots of inventory since I am planning on showing my wears in a fashion show in San Felipe, BC in January. It will be a great beginning and a huge learning experience about runway shows! Who would of thought I could ever create Type A clothing interesting enough for a runway show?
I surprise myself everyday!

My fabric is now stashed in my living room -not good, very messy- since we are a week behind schedule getting the new workshop ready. Today, the painting should be finished and the trim around windows, and the floor go in! That means I move in on Thursday evening. Evening? Yes, there is a fundraiser for the local animal rescue that morning. I will be selling my doggy suits and beds. Part of the proceeds will go towards spay and neutering dogs and cats around here.

The last month has been very busy with shows at the gallery and in San Diego. More to come avery weekend. I will be at Baja Mar on December 11th, and in front of Casa de Arte on the 18th. and perhaps in California if there are other last minute shows I hear of.

Off to sewing in the living room I go. I have 3 hipsters orders to finish.

What an achievement! Finding the manual was one of them. It had been misplaced during the move to the gallery. Then threading it...I followed every step in the manual, bit by bit, image by image, word for word.... It wasn't creating a chain....How disappointing.
Yesterday, I found the perfect Doctor for it. His name is Reynaldo, I brought him home and poof! in half an hour it was working perfectly!
This morning I over locked the edges of some cuffs. Sweater sleeves I had cut... Well they do not look so good around the thumbs. I think I will hand sew the next pair. I stitched the edges of two hip belts I had cut last night and the results are good.
The only thing I worry about now is re threading the machine. I have blues and purples in it now. There is an easy way to change thread colors but I dread it.
For the next few days I will be creating blue and purple things! Pretty blue and purple things , oh and a pretty brown one too. I will not need the over lock machine for that one.

He is ten weeks old, about. He hates being locked up in a cage, loves body heat from other dogs or people. He is a charmer on his way to be potty trained! He needs a home. Two hands equals two leashes. I am fostering him these days because I did not want to see his body laying dead on the side of the road. Two of his litter mates were run over by cars. If you know any one ready to give time to a baby and is willing to commit to an average of 12 years to this little guy, let me know.

Next my sewing. Last project (photo showed in last blog) sold the day after I finished it! The next skirt, still in pins sold the first day I showed it off. Yes, Chef Tina Jo is becoming my best customer! http://cheftinajo.com/

Some one saw me parading it around last Saturday at a book signing fair and said: Wow! You are a walking piece of art! YES! That is my goal! Create wearable art. I am taking baby steps and am not quite happy with everything I am making but I am within the process. My day is coming! I look forward to it, meanwhile I will keep practicing!

Second project for today, read the manual and figure out how to thread my over lock/serger machine. I need it, need it need it for my next visualizations.
This weekend is the big Rosarito Art Fest. The organizers believe they will break down borders with ART! 71 artists of Rosarito and elsewhere will be presenting their art and that includes Hubby and I. I will be able to deliver my belts there!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_cg6gpyB5CA8/TKtspyGNjgI/AAAAAAAAAQo/E-taI6okxs4/s320/IMG_2300.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5524628832978308610" />
This hat found its perfect owner.

Julian is still as romantic as I remember it to be. I like to call it the "first date" town for San Diegans. It is also a great weekend or day get away for families or anyone that wants to be around nature. Tiny little town with cute restaurants, fun little shops and beautiful country all around it. We rode the tiny little mountain roads to Lake Cuyamaca on the way home. The fog was rolling in and made for dramatic scenery.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_cg6gpyB5CA8/TKtwB9qT6QI/AAAAAAAAAQ4/erHl_4xaytE/s320/IMG_2332.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5524632546934253826" />

photo credits: Marie-Pierre and Scott (that would be Hubby and I)

It was overwhelming! It was THE place to be on Saturday the 18th of September!

Every one seemed impressed. We received lots of compliments from so many.

Since then, we have been busy keeping the Gallery open 5 days a week. Each of us doing our share of work a home. Melanie has been working on our website. We were offered a space on the http://www.bajaartists.com/website and as of this morning we are now featured!

We are gathering more friends on Facebook (network, network, network). I am working on creating a collective blog. I plan on updating it once a week with a story from each artist co-op member. I gave them "homework" last night....

We will have Gourd carving and decorating classes each month for one day with Cecilia.

I have been sewing utility belts and will be taking 3 of them to Julian this weekend. http://www.julianappledays.com/ It should be a very fun weekend!

I am having a little trouble adapting to my new work space at the gallery, so hubby is building me a new room. Very soon it will have a roof and I will be able to move out a big part of my fabric stash. That will help tremendously. Local 4 to the Galeria to home!

More news coming soon, stay tuned!

Photo credit to Melanie Lamanga http://www.willowriverstudio.com/

I think I have finally landed.

I made an English breakfast for dinner. Lazy? Probably. Uninspired? That too. So baked beans and eggs for dinner, sorry we are out of bacon....
OUT OF BACON?
Yes, we consumed all 75 pounds on the playa. Farmopolis loves bacon.

Sewing?
Yes back to sewing. I have 2 orders for utility belts. One is almost finished. Main color? Pink
Next one? Rainbow... Hmmm...will need to dig into the bins and find the bright stuff.
After that? a black one. Seratonin awaits....

Then take a break from belts and make a duster. Very special duster.
Fiber art wall hangings are next. Hubby and I scored some molding/framing scraps. I would like for him to make me the frames so I know how large/small my project can be. But he is busy making frames for some of his prints. They must hang on the walls of the Gallery by Saturday.

Gallery opening?
Next Saturday, Still lots to do over there. I got busy pricing my wares today and sewing. Every one's space is going to look so neat in the big room. A Moroccan souk is more likely to be my area's look. Every one seems to enjoy the coziness of it so far... Hey! I may be on the right path!

The Animals?
The dogs are thrilled we have returned. So is Charlie, my 11 year old spinster cat. Pancho ?sulked for 24 hours but he feels better now. The ants are gone, YAY! Every day a hummingbird pauses in front of my face and moves on. I would like to think it is thanking me for keeping the birdbath full of fresh water.

Friends?
Are well. One is frustrated but will find her answers so very soon.
The other one tells me she has a new name: One Boob A. !
Before I left she had a mammogram. Benign lump, they said, but lets take it out any way. Well come to find out it was a stage 2 malignant tumor that was spreading towards her lymph nodes.
So the surgeon took her whole boob away! She is very happy everything was taken care of in 2 weeks. She also had cataract surgery the week before! What a month!

Life seems to stand still in the whirlyworld of the playa, the US energy has a full take on me. It captures and guides you all over the flat surface, in the dust, in the rain, in the heat, in the dark night. all events seem all jumbled together at the end of the week. No beginning, no end; infinity, until we roll back on to that little road and come back to moving forward and.....then?

The trailer gets a flat tire! AAAHHHH ahahahahahaha keep moving forward!

Heat was not. It was a blessing, I wasn't as cranky and out of energy while setting up and tear down. At night it was VERY cold. And then it rained, we had mud, lots of it! All the structures were so clean. When the double almost triple rainbow showed its marvelous colors, we knew the heat was back. All was back to normal. YAY!

Photos recounting my week are here:
http://www.facebook.com/?sk=media#!/album.php?id=523687270&aid=208277

http://www.facebook.com/?sk=media#!/album.php?aid=208302&id=523687270

Reinsertion into the default world wasn't as harsh as it used to be. Perhaps because I do not have to go back to a colorless cubicle and the bad energy that can be found in a human ant hill. I am having some withdrawals, all I can think of is hanging out with my colorfully creative friends. I will do more of that this new burn year.
Here is a letter from the Artic Monkey counseling us all. Words well spoken.

> The Arctic Monkey's Post-Playa Decompression Guide
>
> In the interest of helping give a concise, helpful, guided re-entry into
> civilization after being at Burning Man, I wrote down a series of rules for
> Radical Re-Entry. After seeing four email threads flare up and two potential
> life-changing events start up with various friends over the years, here's the
> short version:
>
> Monkey Re-Entry Rule Number 1:
> Wait three weeks before you make any life-changing decisions.
>
> But let me change that up a bit so it makes more sense.
>
> When returning from the playa, you will be hot, dusty, tired, exhausted. Your
> body will have undergone immense stress, and if you live in a vastly different
> environment, your body will likely react by getting a cold (especially if you
> kissed anyone at the Space Froggie Free Kissing Booth).
>
> Step 1. Take a shower, hippie. Shave, shower, steam everything off. Take two. Or
> three. Then go to sleep. You need it.
>
>
> Step 2. Clean your gear. Wash your clothes, car, stuff, or pack it up into the
> Burner corner of your house. Pack it away and dry it out. Recycle, do your
> garbage, and wash your dishes. Get it put away.
>
>
> Step 3. Breathe. Go through all your Burner stuff from this year, sort and
> organize, and then happily stash it away for good memories for later.
>
> Now that your physical needs are out of the way, let's go to the mental needs.
>
> OMGWTFBBQ THAT WAS AWESOME!
>
> Yes, it was! Wow. Did you see that one guy with the thing? Those two girls?
> That...why are you looking at me like that? I'm just trying to explain it to
> you.
>
> Right. The people who didn't go are going to eye you with either jealousy or
> trepidation, and your social acceptability standards while on playa are
> different from the real world. While you CAN expect the world to change to fit
> the Burning Man model, it seems to work better if you don't try to put your
> shoulder up against the wheel of the Real World right away until you figure out
> how that whole leverage thing works as more than just a metaphor. A single
> butterfly may make changes to the world's weather, but sometimes they just get
> blown into a bug zapper by the wind. Slow down there, Mr. Burner Evangelist.
> You've got 360 days before you're heading back to the Awesome. Let your own
> brain process the nifty neato cool awesome, then hand it off to others.
>
> You just don't get it.
>
> Okay there, Mr Cranky McCrankerpants. Did you forget to take your
> 5-HTPafterwards? Are you still dehydrated? Are you wondering what the $3,490
> charge for "snacks" might be on your visa bill? That's your own stuff and it's
> not up to the people around you - your loved ones, your hamster, your dog, your
> listmates, your campmates, your neighbor - to make accommodations for your
> emotional state post-playa. That's entirely your bag of playafied emotional
> entanglements to work through. Take a few more minutes to consider what you're
> saying on email to people. Reread, check your emotions, and maybe put down the
> phone to keep yourself from doing irreparable harm to your relationships because
> you didn't sleep for a week and are still seeing the Sleep Deprivation
> Leprechauns in your dreams.
>
> Slow down. Put your gear in order, wash your dishes, go for a long walk. Then go
> back and talk to your friends. If this is directed at people you camped with or
> your patience level is abysmally low, maybe you should also take what we in the
> business call "A Chill Pill" and go shut up in a dark corner with some Funyuns
> for a while. Not bitching people out for supposed insults or slights or yelling
> at people for their "stupidity" is a good way to keep and maintain your
> friendships. Also, try not to play Mr. Huffy or Ms. Huffy about imagined or
> unimagined stuff that went on or didn't go on at the event that you failed to
> communicate and ergo, the other party SHOULD have known by magically reading
> your mind/emotional state. You will keep people from thinking you're a total
> whackjob and/or raging asshat who can't communicate. And you may keep your
> friends, instead of driving them before you.
>
> And now back to Monkey Rule NumeroUno, PERIOD. (See? I ramble, but I return to
> the point.)
>
> DO NOT MAKE CHANGES TO YOUR LIFE FOR AT LEAST THREE WEEKS AFTER YOU COME BACK
> FROM BURNING MAN.
>
> Do not quit your job. Do not divorce your wife, husband, sister, dog, parakeet.
> Do not sell all your possessions and move to Tibet to be a monk. Do not ditch
> your car and travel the world. Do not found Hobbit Camp. Do not plan a giant
> zeppelin for next year's Burn. Do not move out of your house, break up with your
> girlfriend, boyfriend, get married, move in your playa lover, sell your car,
> ditch your friends, or make other rash decisions after you come home. This is
> important, because the playa is still going to be in your brain, and the effects
> are like that of rareified stupid sometimes. It will make total sense to have a
> threesome with your significant other and someone in an enormous rabbit costume
> at the Burn; in reality the ears get caught in the ceiling fan. Make sure if you
> have major life decisions to make, you make them AFTER you settle down and
> settle in. The emotions and the stress will still be in your system for some
> time; do not allow them to unduly influence y
> our life.
>
> Take some B-vitamins, some 5-htp, drink plenty of water and eat a good meal or
> two that you cooked yourself, go to bed early and read a good book. You earned
> it. That major life-changing decision will still be there in three weeks, and if
> you reduce the sheer volume of stress you have, it will make those decisions
> easier to deal with AFTER you have time to put away all the other issues and
> emotions post-Burn.
>
> You might not pay any attention to this little guide, or you might say, "That's
> for suckers! Real Burners quit their jobs and go work in an iron foundry with
> those guys they met that one night on the playa or go get married with that
> beautiful playanubnub in Vegas! We don't need your stinkin' recommendations,
> Monkey!" And you would be right (and I will happily watch you run off while
> popping my popcorn and pulling up a chair). But if you want to have an easier
> time recovering from the playa, you might take a little time down to remember
> what the rest of your year goes like, and adjusting your brain, your living
> patterns, and your emotional safety nets accordingly. It really does help,
> especially if you THINK you got all the dusty bananas out of your tent before
> you packed it away.
>
>
> Anyway, that's it. Don't stress. Pack your stuff away, and wait three weeks
> before making any life-changing decisions.
> Oh, and be nice to people. At the end of three weeks, you can be a jerk again if
> you want to.

This is chef Tina-Jo! She and her partner, Dawn, live here in the Punta Banda area. They love animals and rescue dogs every day or so it seems. Dawn writes such beautiful descriptions of these abandoned animals, it is hard to resist adopting the dog they rescued. Once the dog was adopted back by his owner! Giggles! The same day! This is to tell you how caring these women are!

Dawn came by my booth at an exhibit and bought a hat for Tina-Jo a month ago, and this is how the idea of a chef's hat came about.

For the last week or so I have been designing T-J's hat. This hat will dress Tina-Jo's head while she competes as vegan chef at the end of August in Mendicino, CA! This contest will be televised worldwide. "Every time I think of it, it gives me the jitters" she tells me! Well that is all it took to transfer them on to me....The Jitters....

The jitters... I find myself using my seam stripper a lot more. I am threading needles through eyes I cannot see, without any trouble, (there HAS to be some king of djudju there) to sew seed beads on to the fabric. I am in awe as to what I am creating! I am working with colors from Tina-Jo's business card. Her design is delicate and the colors wake you up. Specs of acid green with a splash of deep green represent: "drops of deliciousness" (her quote) falling of over what, I would call, a tree of life. Or, they could be leaves from the tree of life spreading freshness all over the world. There is some red with lots of yellow in it but not quite orange and white.

I have been going to sleep every night thinking about how I can make the perfect hat!
I do not think it will be perfect. Remember what the quilter's mom told her: only one person can create perfection! I am definitely not Her!

So far Tina-Jo loves every thing I have done and Dawn has seen more of the project and is going crazy wanting to see T-J's reaction. But schedules are confronting, so it is decided, next Tuesday is Chef Hat Day!

Tina-Jo and Dawn I cannot stop thanking you for trusting me with such a project! As I told the members of the co-op, I find the name a little boring but since all have voted on it, I am good with it. We are a little over a month from opening day and we need to begin working on the marketing so we can make a big splash!

Yes Hubby and I heard about this space freeing up in a little village close by. The sculptor that was renting it was about to let it go when he mentioned the idea of an art co-op. We thought of a few artists that would like to be part of the effort, invited them and after a few meetings here we are painting the place and figuring out bylaws etc, etc.

Yesterday was paint day. It was fun listening to all chatting while working, getting to know each other a little better. Claire decided she would clean up the front of the gallery, cleaned the planters, watered the plants, cleaned the walls, took all the bugs out of the window sills saying yuck! yuck! yuck! to each and every one of them. Cecilia, Alejandra, Melanie and Scott painted the big room white. I painted the closet of my area pistachio? I did not really chose the color, I wanted a whitish color since the room is really dark. I happened to find a gallon of pistachio in the oops pile at Home Depot and thought... close enough... We were there from 3pm till 8pm. I also helped with the white in the big show room.

We had a few visitors. Bill V, Peter, a neighbour and his 6 week old baby, Daniel Franco, a well known artist of Ensenada, and another person who decided to help Claire with gardening and kept going after she was long gone... Janika came in to find out more about us and how much she wants to join the group. Joan was on her way to Sharky's next door and noticed activity in the building, came in and had a quick escorted tour.

The large room probably needs a second coat of white paint but all ready it looks great!

I will be creating a Gallery blog soon. Each artist will contribute to it. Each week, the newsletter/blog will be written by one of the members fo the co-op. We will list the places we will be showing and our every day experiences as artists. I believe we will begin with introductions.

Next week, I will begin moving out Local 4 and moving to La Case de Arte. It is going to be great going through all my fabric stash and cleaning up and out!

Other than that, Trunk Show this weekend in San Diego, and a work party to prepare for our theme camp at Burningman. Who said life was boring? It just keeps going on and on and forward in many happy ways!

She had been ill on and off since we adopted her. That horrible disease called distemper took its toll and took her away. It was a sad weekend for Hubby and I. It is hard to see a 12 week old baby dog be so sick and just go. Hopefully she enjoyed her time with us.

I have been busy at the local getting ready for a trunk show. And doing every thing to distract from thoughts of Alegra. This is what has transpired. Pretty white hats, some more outrageous and electric, some romantic. Playing with tulle and lace is actually a lot lore fun than I thought it would be. That one is for you Gabriel! You love lace!
More photos at http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/album.php?aid=22971&id=100000553018030&ref=mf

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_cg6gpyB5CA8/TFkCd0zK2XI/AAAAAAAAAOo/IkMuNonLFS4/s200/IMG_0781.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5501431131222497650" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_cg6gpyB5CA8/TFkCKDmngiI/AAAAAAAAAOg/g18B_jyY1zs/s200/IMG_0764.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5501430791598998050" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_cg6gpyB5CA8/TFkBgXCPF_I/AAAAAAAAAOY/ihkBjSThlWQ/s200/IMG_0774.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5501430075260606450" />

Sierra, the dog, did not care for it so much. She wanted to go out and scare the neighborhood squirrels.
The hat I made today with tulle, yes I am in full white tulle swing, looks wow! from out of space! It just needs a few finishing touches.
The fabric hunt under black light went well. The Panamean fabrics are the craziest! The lace pieces are beautiful.
