Well, a few years and a semester in Denmark later, it was ruined. It was completely filthy, the handles were tattered to threads and she was in despair. So, I saved her favorite bag by:

• making a NEW bag out of a more sturdy weight canvas
• cutting out then machine-appliquéing the old dino graphic onto the new bag – this task was aided by ironing sturdy interfacing to the back of the dino graphic
• adding a second layer of black canvas to the bottom of the tote, to increase bag strength and conceal future grime

I also went the extra mile (because I’m The Mom) and installed some inside pockets to hold her beloved Shwood sunglasses and iPhone.

Here are the results! She could not be happier.

Then, a few weeks later I found the original artist on line and it turns out, I could have just bought a new bag on ETSY. Duh. Well, I still think the re-fashioned bag rocks and when THIS one wears out, I’ll visit Megan Lee Designs and buy a new one.

My sister Carolyn and I had a decade long dream of opening a quilting store together. This dream finally came true in November of 2010 when we opened My Sister’s Quilts, an quilt shop that we love! We have thirty years combined quilting experience.
