A buyer can make an offer on an item and the seller can counter it or accept your offer. I have had great experiences as a buyer and so I signed up to be a seller. I have two beautiful girls but finding a dress for a special event is super challenging. The right shape, price and color sometimes is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. That is why when my daughter showed me the design she wanted I told her to let me make a mock up dress and perhaps make her formal dress for the dance. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pj5pu3N5B6M/YIVRxuvNwkI/AAAAAAAAL18/TK0iEPRyYqEAOvh-Rf96zlm24TJwK-R-gCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/IMG_7459.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pj5pu3N5B6M/YIVRxuvNwkI/AAAAAAAAL18/TK0iEPRyYqEAOvh-Rf96zlm24TJwK-R-gCNcBGAsYHQ/w480-h640/IMG_7459.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div><p>Looking for a dress. We did go dress shopping but in the age of COVID, it is completely different. I always start my shopping with my teenagers with food. That's right we either go to Starbucks to get coffee and a sweet treat or eat lunch first. It is imperative to eat so we are not moody or sluggish. We had lunch at a beautiful French restaurant called <a href="https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g49463-d1200482-Reviews-Coquette_Brasserie-Raleigh_North_Carolina.html" target="_blank">Coquette Brasserie at North Hills</a>. If you are in Raleigh, NC I highly recommend it. </p><p>After lunch we hopped over to Crabtree Mall. We looked in Belk and in Macy's. I was crazy! There were mothers who found an employees bathroom that they were using as a dressing room. Yuck!</p><p>I remember being a teenager and your mom making your formal dress sounds like a nightmare but my daughter happily agreed. It helped that she wanted to look different than the other girls and she knew what features she wanted in a dress. The features were puffy sleeves, sweet heart bodice, and a gathered skirt. I made her a mock up dress and we decided to change the look as we started to sew. I really enjoyed the process and loved the time I spent listening to my daughter. This was our first mock up dress and she loved the bodice but we decided to change the skirt. The skirt of this dress was made from a Walmart sheer curtain and cotton I had from my stash. More to come!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JoYS7eBTkJw/YIVR8JuT4RI/AAAAAAAAL2A/C9V4Xd658IwKp-zd9Go5B3gaZzglzORaACNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/IMG_7466.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JoYS7eBTkJw/YIVR8JuT4RI/AAAAAAAAL2A/C9V4Xd658IwKp-zd9Go5B3gaZzglzORaACNcBGAsYHQ/w480-h640/IMG_7466.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div>Sew Spoiledhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01974588785944870711noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7271351608613074635.post-55712768410402572812021-04-12T14:26:00.001-04:002021-04-12T14:26:54.279-04:00Sew Spoiled Wristlet Tutorial<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NDcXqbGBWEM/Xyr5R8V9rfI/AAAAAAAALqo/lfK65P6DPvgg_9XqqroIT89cTzvKWEAjQCNcBGAsYHQ/s1832/Screen%2BShot%2B2020-08-04%2Bat%2B7.32.36%2BPM.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1376" data-original-width="1832" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NDcXqbGBWEM/Xyr5R8V9rfI/AAAAAAAALqo/lfK65P6DPvgg_9XqqroIT89cTzvKWEAjQCNcBGAsYHQ/s640/Screen%2BShot%2B2020-08-04%2Bat%2B7.32.36%2BPM.png" width="640" /></a></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Have you always wanted to sew a zipper wristlet but you have been afraid of it not turning out right? It is the <a href="https://quiltforlovers.com/index.php/2020/01/30/chevron-quilt/amp/" target="_blank">chevron quilt</a>. To make it even easier purchase a layered cake of quilting <a href="https://www.fatquartershop.com/layer-cakes" target="_blank">squares precut in 10" blocks</a>. I love the magic of sewing the 10" squares right sides together first all long all four sides. Then cut the block from corner to corner making wonderful triangles. Rearrange the triangles to create this chevron pattern.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uop_vtBIVd0/YG7QfBIzunI/AAAAAAAALy8/Mr5bOpqBjkA4PKEAgGUuEPF7Ke2TTA7-wCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/IMG_7113.heic" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uop_vtBIVd0/YG7QfBIzunI/AAAAAAAALy8/Mr5bOpqBjkA4PKEAgGUuEPF7Ke2TTA7-wCNcBGAsYHQ/w480-h640/IMG_7113.heic" width="480" /></a></div>I was given this fabric years ago. Really it so ugly to me I had tried to throw it out several times. However, like books, I have an extremely hard time throwing out fabric. I know that if I can find the right project every fabric has a use. <br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jmk0VeNPeMc/YG7QepUtcAI/AAAAAAAALy4/it2CJxyDsUcW-4t85OuV9FVIGRHcjVsuwCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/IMG_7106.HEIC" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jmk0VeNPeMc/YG7QepUtcAI/AAAAAAAALy4/it2CJxyDsUcW-4t85OuV9FVIGRHcjVsuwCNcBGAsYHQ/w640-h480/IMG_7106.HEIC" width="640" /></a></div>Once I saw the <a href="https://quiltforlovers.com/index.php/2020/01/30/chevron-quilt/amp/" target="_blank">chevron quilt</a> I knew that this was the right project for this fabric. <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Warm-Company-Batting-72-Inch-90-Inch/dp/B00NJ66XWQ/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=batting+twin+warm&qid=1617876725&sr=8-6" target="_blank">I bought a twin size batting piece and cut it in half for a throw blanket, </a><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4oX5fcprctI/YG7QeiCXPYI/AAAAAAAALy0/1mmAZja5jaEsSUgfZ84XKSaiQoqFIsIbQCNcBGAsYHQ/s1440/CED558B6-D686-466A-AA86-00006F3F4A9A.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1440" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4oX5fcprctI/YG7QeiCXPYI/AAAAAAAALy0/1mmAZja5jaEsSUgfZ84XKSaiQoqFIsIbQCNcBGAsYHQ/w640-h640/CED558B6-D686-466A-AA86-00006F3F4A9A.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>My favorite part of quilting is playing with the color variations. I have seen rainbow bands of color as well as a mix of prints and designs.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vT7JmtCWWQQ/YG7Qer7rWLI/AAAAAAAALyw/mnTZsAr2iPQEnlXyGE5wxiQ6tofof0ArgCNcBGAsYHQ/s1440/59E3D146-8D74-42FC-9679-F45E85B302BA.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1439" data-original-width="1440" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vT7JmtCWWQQ/YG7Qer7rWLI/AAAAAAAALyw/mnTZsAr2iPQEnlXyGE5wxiQ6tofof0ArgCNcBGAsYHQ/w640-h640/59E3D146-8D74-42FC-9679-F45E85B302BA.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Can you use this quilting technique for other quilt patterns? Yes! I originally cut out these <a href="https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Art+Gallery+fat+quarters&ref=nb_sb_noss_2" target="_blank">Art Gallery fat quarters</a> for a second chevron quilt. However, when I started to play with the triangles I decided to mix them up and created this fun design.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-N4q0d_kHPms/YG7aPjqNg7I/AAAAAAAALzc/2FLlsfUoE-ohfenodyOrjH1RZR7KqdILwCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/7202FE58-8383-4613-BEBC-3D53ED19A8F6.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="2048" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-N4q0d_kHPms/YG7aPjqNg7I/AAAAAAAALzc/2FLlsfUoE-ohfenodyOrjH1RZR7KqdILwCNcBGAsYHQ/w640-h640/7202FE58-8383-4613-BEBC-3D53ED19A8F6.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div>The possibilities are endless with fabric from your stash. I do advise buying a solid print and using what you have or pairing it with coordinate prints. <br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bks_DTm_EfQ/YG7aPkR8qSI/AAAAAAAALzg/8tsxJNz-AmMWneyVwrOkfabXEO9AkAalwCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/A4619017-A2F5-4B30-8AF3-24F2CF628C8B_1_201_a.heic" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bks_DTm_EfQ/YG7aPkR8qSI/AAAAAAAALzg/8tsxJNz-AmMWneyVwrOkfabXEO9AkAalwCNcBGAsYHQ/w640-h480/A4619017-A2F5-4B30-8AF3-24F2CF628C8B_1_201_a.heic" width="640" /></a></div>I am still learning how to quilt everything together. One quilter that has helped me feel more confident with free motion quilting is <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0pG03YOX2DSwn8Se32TnNQ" target="_blank">Angela Walters</a>. If you think you have seen her before you are right! She is also known as the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLjp-yIkiW1qAM-OX4StCCg" target="_blank">Midnight Quilter</a>. I adore both youtube channels. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MT8W8JIBGk4/YG7aQ9ntm5I/AAAAAAAALzo/CvVMJT8H3fAqVQHQPJrdOaYtaW-Hy-VzACNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/D54A6C61-E7A8-435C-95D6-E2A98BB885A1.heic" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MT8W8JIBGk4/YG7aQ9ntm5I/AAAAAAAALzo/CvVMJT8H3fAqVQHQPJrdOaYtaW-Hy-VzACNcBGAsYHQ/w640-h480/D54A6C61-E7A8-435C-95D6-E2A98BB885A1.heic" width="640" /></a></div>One more awesome tip I have for quilters is to buy a <a href="https://www.dollartree.com/home-collection-beach-bash-blue-green-table-covers-with-flannel-backing/196972" target="_blank">dollar tree vinyl table cloth</a> with the white flannel backing, tack it to a wall wrong side facing out and then place your quilt blocks on the white flannel. I love this because you do not have to place your blocks on the floor anymore.<div>Also to tack the tablecloth up use these <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Command-Picture-Decorate-Damage-Free-PH206-14NA/dp/B073XR4X72/ref=sr_1_5?crid=3JPSLLEOX7OXL&dchild=1&keywords=velcro+strips+with+adhesive+wall+safe&qid=1617879241&sprefix=velcro+strips+with+adhesive+wall+%2Caps%2C159&sr=8-5" target="_blank">Command large picture heavy duty stripes</a>. Attach them to your wall and then along the short side of the right side of the vinyl tablecloth. This way you can fold it up and put it away when you are not using it.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8cBNbzgVYhM/YG7aRAArzuI/AAAAAAAALzs/Dt7zbjyb6Yo8czT5PIKhq0vLnYaJ6x1PwCNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/DE1F6139-898E-4A39-AC2B-625C3AAE446E.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="2048" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8cBNbzgVYhM/YG7aRAArzuI/AAAAAAAALzs/Dt7zbjyb6Yo8czT5PIKhq0vLnYaJ6x1PwCNcBGAsYHQ/w640-h640/DE1F6139-898E-4A39-AC2B-625C3AAE446E.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Best Wishes and Tons of Stitches!</div></div>Sew Spoiledhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01974588785944870711noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7271351608613074635.post-46883328855423724132021-03-28T19:19:00.001-04:002021-03-28T19:29:45.143-04:00Hubble Bubble Cardigan Pattern<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WWwQkwrUCEQ/YGDzsYllfhI/AAAAAAAALxk/rGAq-Bjp5lMTs71V-rK7pMq5kAQ0ut43QCNcBGAsYHQ/s4032/F9171BED-2C69-48F6-82D8-451400824BB1_1_201_a.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WWwQkwrUCEQ/YGDzsYllfhI/AAAAAAAALxk/rGAq-Bjp5lMTs71V-rK7pMq5kAQ0ut43QCNcBGAsYHQ/w480-h640/F9171BED-2C69-48F6-82D8-451400824BB1_1_201_a.jpeg" width="480" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Have you ever seen a pattern that you don't know how you will create it because you have never made anything like it before? You click to buy and then you start to panic because you don't know if you will ever make it. This is exactly how I felt when I bought the <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hubble-bubble-cardigan">Hubble Bubble Knitting pattern from Kat and Leni.</a> I had seen it all over Instagram and I loved the design. I knew how to knit but I had never made bubbles, what are bubble sleeves? What have I done? Buyers Remorse!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: arial;">After buying the pattern the next logical step is to buy the yarn. I researched <a href="https://www.weareknitters.com/skeins-and-needles/skeins/the-wool">The Wool by We Are Knitters</a> because this was the only yarn the pattern recommends and I had sticker shock! One ball of yarn was between $24- $30 dollars per 200 g. This pattern calls for 1200g so that equaled between $144- $180 for one sweater. Don't get me wrong this is beautiful yarn but I am a teacher and there is no way I would spend that much on one sweater. Apparently, I am not alone because I found this <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xPegvBj0Vb8hF-gd5V-J2wQi39BfzuD8/view">cheat sheet for super chunky yarn on a budget</a>.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0dNpA20H1GA/YGD-1DbGeTI/AAAAAAAALxw/jv9_9_P9fX4r_YGVRTTCNOE_icu3dIn8ACNcBGAsYHQ/s2048/828F4ACB-76A6-488A-A07E-BB9FC69D34B9.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="2048" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0dNpA20H1GA/YGD-1DbGeTI/AAAAAAAALxw/jv9_9_P9fX4r_YGVRTTCNOE_icu3dIn8ACNcBGAsYHQ/w640-h640/828F4ACB-76A6-488A-A07E-BB9FC69D34B9.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: arial;">I went to Michaels in hope of finding a more economical way to create this beautiful sweater. </span><span style="font-family: arial;">I found Eco-Cozy Ecodouillet in this soft pink color for $6.00 per skein. Once you have completed the two front panels and the back panel it is time to bind the shoulder seams together. You have a lot of live stitches on scrap yarn. <a href="https://youtu.be/Ph93jWSzTa0">I used this video tutorial from Very Pink Knits to learn how to do the 3 needle bind-off.</a> </span><span style="font-family: arial;">I absolutely love this way to stitch the shoulder seams together. You finish the ribbing around the edge of the front panels and the neckline. Then you pick up stitches for the sleeves. I picked up 3 stitches for every 4 rows. The pattern does have instructions on how to create the bubble sleeves but I did not understand it until I watched this <a href="https://youtu.be/kXdJiSdGdCE">video tutorial by Studio Knit</a>. I know it is a hat but it all made sense once I watched her complete a few bubbles. I love Lilly Pulitzer fabric! Find your own<a href="https://www.etsy.com/search?q=lilly%20pulitzer%20fabric&ref=auto-1&as_prefix=lill" target="_blank"> Lilly Pultizer Fabric</a> finds here. I created a <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/59722436/2-pdf-sewing-pattern-sew-spoiled?ref=shop_home_feat_3" target="_blank">Sew Spoiled Wristlet</a>! I still use this pattern over and over again. I love how perfect the size and shape and you can use a small piece of fabric to make this special gift.<br />

Do not forget you can also make this with a cute strap that makes this wristlet a <a href="http://sewspoiled.blogspot.com/2015/04/wristlet-shoulderwrist-strap-tutorial.html" target="_blank">mini shoulder bag</a> too.<br />

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/43926513271/in/dateposted/" nbsp="" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="640" src="https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1833/43926513271_c29dfe2b74_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
My favorite sewing projects are always bags! One size fits all and each one is fun to create. At the end of the summer, I started searching for a teacher tote to take to school. I needed a tote to carry my grade book, notebook and calendar stuff. I found <a href="https://noodle-head.com/2013/05/super-tote-pattern.html" target="_blank">Noodlehead's Supertote</a>, perfect for any teacher!<br />
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/41916115760/in/dateposted/" nbsp="" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="640" src="https://farm1.staticflickr.com/941/41916115760_e08ffa7958_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
I did not have enough fabric to make it when I looked through my stash, so I found all of my favorite scraps and started to piece them together. Most of them are out-of-print fabrics from Amy Butler collections. I also took a shortcut and used canvas webbing for my straps. Last but not less, the bottom of the tote was not sturdy enough so I added plastic to the base.<br />
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/42820982535/in/dateposted/" nbsp="" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="640" src="https://farm1.staticflickr.com/858/42820982535_b46c588b45_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
The <a href="https://noodle-head.com/2013/05/super-tote-pattern.html" target="_blank">Super Tote design</a> is the perfect size for a teacher tote. I can store two 1.5" notebooks inside. There is also a slip pocket on the outside perfect for my badge and pens and an interior elastic slip pocket for post-its and other office supplies. I love that the top has a zipper closure, however, I have not used it since I am carrying notebooks around. I highly recommend making the <a href="https://noodle-head.com/2013/05/super-tote-pattern.html" target="_blank">Super Tote</a>. This pattern is written well and is easy to understand.<br />

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/28907345958/in/photostream/" nbsp="" title="Red Kitchen"><img alt="Red Kitchen" height="480" src="https://farm1.staticflickr.com/899/28907345958_8a1858ed5d_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script><br />
Let me start by saying, we moved into our house fall of 2003. We loved our red kitchen but as time progressed our red kitchen was not as trendy as it was 15 years ago and we needed an update. It felt like every night we were eating at McDonald's with this tomato red color on the walls. There have even been psychological studies that have reported that the colors red and yellow make you hungrier.<br />
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/41880258255/in/photostream/" nbsp="" title="Grey Kitchen"><img alt="Grey Kitchen" height="800" src="https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1735/41880258255_70d1804699_c.jpg" width="637" /></a><br />
Not what my family needed, so we painted it a beautiful blue-grey and I got new stools, curtains, and a new kitchen nook table. It is amazing how a little paint can totally change a room.<br />
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/42555498462/in/photostream/" nbsp="" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="800" src="https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1759/42555498462_92781b4342_c.jpg" width="600" /></a><br />
It still needed a few Sew Spoiled details, so I monogrammed the kitchen sink curtains. I love how they came out. I am looking for some kitchen towels to monogram as well. I found this <a href="https://www.etsy.com/transaction/1449041274">Split Vintage Regal Embroidery at EmbroPlanet</a>. I had the font for the Williams name in the <a href="http://embrilliance.com/">Embrilliance Software</a> I use.<br />

Every year we perform a musical and one of the highlights for me as a theater mom and seamstress is I get to make costumes! I love sewing and when I can sew for a show or for a music reason it is awesome! This year was Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and I was able to recreate Veruca's red dress. The first step is to find a sewing pattern that I can manipulate to look like what the character needs. I wanted to make the dress out of Pont de Roma fabric so it moved with the actress. Then I remembered the <a href="https://www.christinehaynes.com/products/marianne-dress-pdf-pattern" style="color: #88c193; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; text-decoration: none;">Marianne Dress by Christine Haynes</a>, it is perfect because it also had a peter pan collar.<br />
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/40484373841/in/photostream/" nbsp="" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="640" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4722/40484373841_5c67cdd75a_z.jpg" width="480" /></a><br />
The peter pan collar did have some issues. I did not want a t-shirt binding. Also, the back of the collar did not have a collar. I drafted a back collar piece and since the opening was not stretchy, I created a keyhole with a button and loop closure.<br />
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/38674336420/in/photostream/" nbsp="" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="640" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4666/38674336420_09bb84b63d_z.jpg" width="480" /></a><br />
I lengthened the sleeves and used the cuffs from the pattern for long sleeves. Next, we added the buttons! We also added ribbon for the waistband that goes across the front and back.<br />
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/40484353521/in/photostream/" nbsp="" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="640" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4724/40484353521_38cc51fafc_z.jpg" width="480" /></a><br />
I used tape to give myself a guide for all of the front buttons. Then I had a guide for my buttons.<br />
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/40441774082/in/photostream/" nbsp="" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="640" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4752/40441774082_5f0f0356ac_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
They turned out great and then I added cuffs to the sleeves and buttons on the cuffs.<br />
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/39588755765/in/photostream/" nbsp="" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="640" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4707/39588755765_7bc7ff7d53_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
As soon as she put the dress on she started acting in character, that is a sure sign that we got it right!<br />

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/39679083702/in/photostream/" nbsp="" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4603/39679083702_06eb2e1533.jpg" width="375" /></a><br />
I created a Schoolhouse Tunic March 2010 using this gorgeous fabric <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/83647548/anna-maria-horner-good-folks-fortune-in?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=Anna%20Maria%20Horner%20Good%20Folks%20Fortune%20in%20chocolate&ref=sr_gallery-1-1" target="_blank">Anna Maria Horner, Good Folks Fortune in Chocolate</a> and since then I realized I don't wear it anymore and I still love the fabric! That's when I realized I have to upcycle it and make it something new. I chose to make the Amy Butler, In Town Bag. It is a super small bag so I knew right away that the button closure would not work for me. Then I thought about a magnet closure but that would take up more of the inside of the bag. I found a tutorial on how to apply an enclosed zipper!<br />
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/39679083672/in/dateposted/" nbsp="" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4767/39679083672_928b8d4e4e.jpg" width="375" /></a><br />
This bag is tiny and to best utilize the space a zipper was the best closure. I used 4 pieces of fabric cut to 9" long X 1.5" wide to create the enclosed zipper.<br />
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/39000982394/in/photostream/" nbsp="" title=" "><img alt=" " height="500" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4718/39000982394_70e25fe6fc.jpg" width="375" /></a><br />
I placed leather for the bottom of the bag. It is easier to keep it clean and looks great!<br />
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/38812299325/in/photostream/" nbsp="" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4653/38812299325_4d255162bf.jpg" width="375" /></a><br />
I did sew in the slip pocket template on one side of my bag. The zipper closure falls over the pocket to keep items from falling out. If you are interested in learning how to enclose a zipper check out this <a href="https://youtu.be/YDYWEZfdZzM" target="_blank">Baker Bag Tutorial</a> the zipper part starts at 13:5 in the video.<br />
This was a beautiful schoolhouse tunic but I love the bag even more!<br />

I made a plaid Heather Dress designed by the <a href="https://sewoverit.co.uk/">Sew Over It</a>! Making anything out of plaid is extremely hard. You have to make sure you are lining up all of the horizontal and vertical lines with the grain lines on the paper pattern pieces. I used a ruler on top of my paper pattern pieces to make sure that everything lined up. It took longer to true up the fabric than it took to make the actual dress but it was well worth it! In the end, I had to decide that the horizontal lines mattered more. I placed also paid close attention to where the notches where on the separate pattern pieces so when I sewed them together it would also align. If you don't want to deal will plaid craziness and you still would like to have plaid on your dress, you can use plaid fabric for the center front and back pieces of the pattern.<br />
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/24528050757/in/photostream/" nbsp="" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4728/24528050757_78d4e05dc8.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
I am not sure I recommend others to sew this dress pattern totally in plaid. Many have used a plaid or other design for the center panel and that works very well. I am a crazy person, who loves a challenge and the feeling of frustration in my sewing space. This is a size 10, bust size 35. You really need to follow the 5/8" seam allowance as you are sewing the entire dress pattern. I wish there was a neckline band pattern piece, it states in the pattern to measure and then attach it. I guess the reason for having you measure your own neckline is because all of the seam allowances come together there (6 different seam allowance sewn) if you did not follow the 5/8" seam allowance then your neckband piece would be different in length. I will definitely buy more <a href="https://sewoverit.co.uk/">Sew Over It</a> designs! I am looking at the Ultimate Trousers sewing pattern. I love making my own clothes. I can create what I want in a garment. I don't have to wait for someone else to design it for me. I don't have to hunt for clothes online and/or look for it in the stores around me. Sewing gives me the freedom to make and wear what I love. What is on your sewing table?<br />

This pattern is called the <a href="http://www.dogundermydesk.com/store/patterns/two-zip-hipster-pdf-pattern/">Two Zipper Hipster</a>, by <a href="http://www.dogundermydesk.com/">Dog Under My Desk</a>. I first reviewed it four years ago <a href="http://sewspoiled.blogspot.com/2014/01/sew-spoiled-really-is-spoiled.html">here</a> after receiving my embroidery machine for Christmas 2014.<br />
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/27704016819/in/dateposted/" nbsp="" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4600/27704016819_dd6d51d12a.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
I love this design and I have to say I believe this crossover bag to be the best crossover bag pattern out there. The slip pocket and zipper front pocket is super convenient. I use it for my phone and glasses. The adjustable strap makes this bag perfect for anyone.<br />
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/39450626122/in/photostream/" nbsp="" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4645/39450626122_7cb8aa0ee5.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
I personalized the front of the zipper pocket with my initials and added a Sew Spoiled design on the back. Selfish sewing is so much fun!<br />
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/24614453707/in/photostream/" nbsp="" title=" "><img alt=" " height="500" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4729/24614453707_cf2939953e.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
I realized when I got home from the fabric store that I bought the wrong color in zippers. I bought navy and the denim was not navy and not dark enough to be black. Well, with black zippers it looked navy and with navy zippers, it looked black. So I decided to go with light blue and match the embroidery to tie it all together. This also made me realize that you could do this with a variety of colors; making the embroidery and the zipper color match.<br />
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/27597543879/in/photostream/" nbsp="" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4728/27597543879_a01b3bc64e.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
I also changed the top of the slip pocket zipper panel to accent the blue zipper color, this fabric is also the lining fabric. I couldn't be happier with the entire project!<br />

See I told you, after sewing <a href="http://sewspoiled.blogspot.com/2018/01/sew-over-it-heather-dress-1.html" target="_blank">Heather Dress #1</a>, here is<a href="https://sewoverit.co.uk/product/heather-dress-pdf-sewing-pattern/" target="_blank"> Heather Dress</a> #2. This time I used a sweater knit fabric. It is so warm, comfortable and soft. Great for the wintery weather we are having in the south this year. Also, the pockets seem to perform better in this fabric choice.<br />
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/38665142395/in/dateposted/" nbsp="" title="fullsizeoutput_1973"><img alt="fullsizeoutput_1973" height="500" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4589/38665142395_0a52122c2f.jpg" width="375" /></a><br />
Here is a close up of the pocket!<br />
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/39362402132/in/photostream/" nbsp="" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4634/39362402132_471503f5b0.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
I again had a little extra fabric. So I made a knit pencil skirt. I just used a pencil skirt that I had in my closet as a pattern. Yay, I love getting a little extra fabric for one more design. This stretches my fabric wardrobe budget.<br />
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/38684467684/in/dateposted/" nbsp="" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4599/38684467684_7840cb69fc.jpg" width="375" /></a><br />
Piecing everything together can be fun and give you the boost you need to start sewing!<br />
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/27615379219/in/dateposted/" nbsp="" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4687/27615379219_b16fd15479.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
I love how easily this dress comes together. It looks professional but at the same time feels great. I can teach music and move around and look great all at the same time.<br />

It is a fast knit and there is no button band. I love that. There are just a few patterns that are tried and true, this is one of them. They are staples in my wardrobe. I would love to make one every year! This year when the weather started to get cold, I began wanting to make another Everyday Cardigan. I bought this beautiful orange yarm and set to work. </span><br />

I love the orange color and sweet snuggles that I received from my puppy knitting. Knitting does take a long time but it is a craft you can do anywhere. It is so relaxing and warm. Hope this inspires you to give it a try.<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
I love this dress pattern, <a href="https://sewoverit.co.uk/product/heather-dress-pdf-sewing-pattern/">The Heather Dress</a> from <a href="https://sewoverit.co.uk/">Sew Over It</a>! Of course, that means that I have to make 100 of them. I apologize now to you, my readers. You might have to see many more of these. These dresses are comfortable and soft, they look great in Pont De Roma fabrics and you can find this fabric in every color. Also, the Heather Dress, from Sew Over It, combines two of my favorite things knit fabric and pockets! I love pockets! No wonder I love making bags so much, bags are all about my pocket addiction. I have made many knit dresses but it is nearly impossible to place pockets in a knit dress because the dress sags. The entire dress droops and gravity takes its toll. By the end of the day, your dress is longer just because you put things in your pockets. The Heather Dress is different the pockets can be used and look great. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/27784959779/in/photostream/" nbsp="" title="fullsizeoutput_19a7"><img alt="fullsizeoutput_19a7" height="500" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4596/27784959779_541e4c0224.jpg" width="252" /></a><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/38852345924/in/photostream/" nbsp="" title="fullsizeoutput_199b"><img alt="fullsizeoutput_199b" height="500" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4644/38852345924_eba5be597e.jpg" width="262" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Knit fabric dresses are extremely versatile! You can wear them in the spring/ summer with sandals and you can wear them in the fall/ winter with boots and legging and layers. I have 5 knit dresses and I wear them all year round. I also love 3/4 sleeves so I can wear them at any time of the year. The knit dress is a staple in my wardrobe.</div>
<div>
It was my first so I was expecting to have to tweak it a lot but to my surprise, I didn't! I took the sides in a little and shorten the hem but that is all.<br />
I also had extra fabric to make this cute top.<br />

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/25601966488/in/dateposted/" nbsp="" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4600/25601966488_c8da412807.jpg" width="375" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script><br />
My sister just moved into her beautiful dream home and asked for me to monogram some towels for her. These are the finished product. I am so glad that everything turned out so well. I love the ladder made from repurposed wood and the grey floors.<br />
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/24381886877/in/datetaken/" nbsp="" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4728/24381886877_5242132dbc.jpg" width="500" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script><br />
It is fun to help someone get the finished result that they were looking for. Sure, the towels would have looked great without the monogram but the design puts it over the top.<br />
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/27468637529/in/datetaken/" nbsp="" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4596/27468637529_5ae81f89e7.jpg" width="500" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script><br />
I found the design letter here, at <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/GreatNotionsDesigns?section_id=22155905" target="_blank">Great Notions Design</a>. Sometimes choosing a letter monogram can be daunting with all of the choices you have. As you probably already noticed I did not hoop the towel, only the interfacing. I used a baste stitch first to hold the interfacing, towel and water soluble topper together. I know most people do <b>not</b> do it this way but I really believe it is the best way to embroider.<br />
Best wishes and tons of Stitches!<br />

<li>We took our students to see the Orchestra! Every kid should go to see the orchestra at least once in their elementary career! The NC Symphony Orchestra provides education concerts and explains each piece. We also practice a song that we sing with the orchestra playing the accompaniment. The students love it and grow to love classical music!</li>

<div style="text-align: left;">
Let's embroider a project!</div>
<br />
Wait a minute, wait a minute! Let's set up everything first.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/39336213611/in/dateposted/" nbsp="" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="375" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4645/39336213611_9ef411302a.jpg" width="500" /></a><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script></div>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>Set up the design for the embroidery machine. You will need to get your design ready for your machine. I use <a href="http://embrilliance.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3&products_id=6" target="_blank">Embrilliance Software</a> to move letters or move design pieces around and size things. I like to center everything in the hoop graph on my computer software so that it will transfer that to the machine. I also baste all of my designs. If you do not have the software you can use stitches directly from your embroidery machine, you can purchase files online and transfer them to your machine via SD card, USB or with a cable. </li>
<li>Hoop the stabilizer, leave a little excess around the hoop. Make sure the stabilizer has a little tension like a drum.<b> I do not hoop my fabric or project. I baste the project down first and then my machine runs the embroidery files. That way if the baste stitch is the wrong size or if the design is not center I can start over, change the size or take out the stitches and move the fabric. You can get hoop burn if you hoop your project fabric. </b></li>
<li>Mark the project with a <a href="http://amzn.to/2Dez1ZF" target="_blank">Target Stickers</a> or I like to iron a mark where I want the embroidery to go on my project. (I will show you how later.) You will notice that there are marks on the hoop; north, south, east, and west or your X and Y axis. Your needle should be in the center of your hoop. These markings will help you adjust your work so it is centered. Some machines even come with a plastic grid that you can lay over the hooped project to help with centering. </li>
</ul>
<iframe allow="encrypted-media" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" gesture="media" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/mvhqn5QUSnA" width="560"></iframe><br />
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>Let the machine show you how large the area it is embroidering. This can also help you see if a design is centered.</li>
</ul>
<iframe allow="encrypted-media" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" gesture="media" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TuJ44J9uIHw" width="560"></iframe><br />
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>For fluffy designs, you will need a top stabilizer. </li>
<li>Lower the presser foot and start the design.</li>
<li>If the machine skips over and goes across the hoop to a new area to embroider pause the machine and clip the thread.</li>
<li>When the project is done embroidering. Release the hoop, take out the basting stitches, clip any excess threads and trim or tear away the stabilizer. </li>

I got an embroidery machine now what?<br />
First, you need a few items to make your machine work.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/sewspoiled/38368311055/in/datetaken/" nbsp="" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Untitled"><img alt="Untitled" height="800" src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4643/38368311055_1bbb90f451_c.jpg" width="600" /></a></div>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>Make sure you have a stabilizer, my favorite is <a href="http://amzn.to/2BTUhHZ">tear-away</a>! </li>
<li><a href="http://amzn.to/2DfPM6x">Embroidery Thread</a>! Embroidery thread is different than sewing machine thread. It is shiny and made out of polyester, it is better for your machine because the thread has fewer fibers that will clog the machine. Also, You will also want the shine from the thread to stand out above the fabric.<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script></li>
<li>If you want to embroider towels, or anything fuzzy, then you will want to purchase <a href="http://amzn.to/2zwx3lf">Water Soluble Embroidery Stabilizer</a>. This stabilizer is for the top of your embroidery work so the thread will stand up on top of the fluffy fibers of a towel.</li>
<li><a href="http://amzn.to/2C88yxF">Embroidery Machine Scissors</a>, these will make it easier for you to trim threads. Sometimes an embroidery design will move across the hoop and you will have extra thread across your design, trim them away while the project is in the hoop.</li>
<li><a href="https://www.swakembroidery.com/products//SWAK_FREE_ame_freebastingstitches">Baste Design!</a> I use this for almost every design! I will show you how later. It is FREE! <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-N67Lruam9z8/WkJlWuEC9UI/AAAAAAAALVU/HxQ4_d64_UA_4jai7bwGhSzRl-EbwyzCQCLcBGAs/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2017-12-26%2Bat%2B10.05.17%2BAM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1256" data-original-width="1600" height="313" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-N67Lruam9z8/WkJlWuEC9UI/AAAAAAAALVU/HxQ4_d64_UA_4jai7bwGhSzRl-EbwyzCQCLcBGAs/s400/Screen%2BShot%2B2017-12-26%2Bat%2B10.05.17%2BAM.png" width="400" /></a></div>
</li>
<li>Software! My favorite is <a href="http://amzn.to/2C9uSqv">Embrilliance Embroidery Software</a>. Or <a href="http://embrilliance.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3&products_id=6">buy it directly here</a>! I love this software because it is cheap(er than most embroidery software) and available for PC or <b>MAC</b>. It will baste your design for you!</li>
</ul>
<div>
Do you have to have all of these items? No, you can certainly make your machine work without them but these items will make life embroidering much easier. If you already embroider and know of other embroidery products please share them with us in the comments!<br />

Best Wishes and Tons of Stitches!</div>

Hobby Lobby took this wonderful picture for the Simplicity Pattern 1338 or "It's So Easy, It's Simplicity" 1190. I love the rich fabrics, my favorite colors! The handles have trim sewn onto the webbing which gives it a more finished look. The fabric design was also centered very well. Looks Fabulous!<br />
