Another math contest. Well, I guess Sr. Nat will be happy with the results. There we're 48 teams competing and ten made it to the finals. The final ranking was:

Multiply About To Introduce A New Inbox... Again...

I can't say if I'll like it or hate it but...

Multiply blog says the new features include live updating of the feed - which means the feed updates with every new post/reply, devaluing the refresh button. The right pane gets a live preview of the post. They designed it so that the users will feel no need to leave their inbox. They called it Panorama view and is currently available to premium members, though other users will get the new feature in the days to come.

Multiply's getting a new facelift - introducing major changes since the inception of Multiply 4.0. First, they added posting from Picasa and Live Gallery - very useful feature, btw. Next, they included cross-posting to FB and Twitter - something I really appreciate. Then, they added Multiply chat - OK, I guess but it's kinda cheap. They also tweaked Privacy settings, making Multiply even more powerful. Lastly, they redid the home page - Multiply now features this cool login page, a dark blue (and much less of an eyesore) header bar and a cool new favicon.

I guess Multiply's getting better, but if Multiply starts hosting apps, I'm leaving. Problem is, Multiply's becoming more like Facebook everyday. But then, Facebook owes it's popularity to a revolutionary technology it, say, copied from Multiply - the "news feed."

Some stuff I'd want from multiply - an AIR app.

Brand New Eyes - A Look Into Paramore

On February 26, 2009, Hayley Williams, Paramore's female lead singer, was crowned "Sexiest Female" on the Shockwave NME Awards over other nominees Kate Jackson, Alison Mosshart, Lykke Li and Stephanie Dosen. Who can blame her, with her flaming red hair, nicely curved body and her edgy attitude?

Paramore is about to release a new album entitled "Brand New Eyes" on September 29, 2009. The first single off, Ignorance, the disk is already available for download since June 7. Paramore has come a long way from a Pop Punk Tennessee band to AP's Best Band of 2007. Through the years, their music has transformed from "bouncier punk-pop sound for a more sprawling, Evanescence-like romanticism." So, before they finally release their third studio album, the time is ripe for a comprehensive review.

Paramore's debut album was released on July 26, 2005 and reached 30 on the Billboard's Heatseekers chart. The album starts off with their angsty third single "All We Know" and becomes more mellow and melodic as the track approaches the last song. The album ends with a melodic power ballad "My Heart" which features screaming from their lead guitarist Josh Farro. "All We Know Is Falling" is an extremely strong debut, and the raw and whole voice of the lead singer complements the alternative/punk instrumentals excellently. The album as a whole "is easy to listen to but also provides for some great in-depth listening experiences." In my opinion, this is their best album but the succeeding album gave the band success and extensive media coverage that soon catapulted the band to the limelight.

Riot! was released on June 12, 2007 and is certified platinum by the RIAA. By this time, Paramore has developed a distinct sound and the album is quite monotonous, compared to their debut. Hayley Williams voice stands out through most of the album, giving the songs control and authority over a genre marked with violence and angst. Their music became less sophisticated, but ultimately giving the album mass appeal. The album includes Paramore's most well known hits - Misery Business, Crushcrushcrush and That's What You Get.

Paramore later released Decode, a single off the CD of the Twilight OST. Decode sees the first major change in the band's music, the song bing more reminiscent of the Evanescence songs than their previous albums. It seems, however, that the shift was temporary - Ignorance, their new single, finds Paramore returning to their original sound, though to some degree a little different.

Paramore continues to enchant us with their raw, whole, controlled vocals and creative, though unsophisticated music. However, the band has become increasingly dull and monotonous. Here's to hoping their new album will give the same variety and taste as their debut.

5 Most Unused Multiply Features

Most of my social life online are on Multiply and I can't help but notice that most of my friends are novices in the site, even though they probably used the service for three years and counting. So, I decided to make a list on what my friends (and probably you yourself) are missing from this great service.

# 5 Post Via Mobile
This feature is relatively new and is, at present, available only in the Philippines. You can post photos, videos and blog entries straight from your mobile phone, through MMS!

# 4 Import Content
Suppose you see this great video on Youtube and chose to share it on Multiply. Most people will think of their two options - embed the video on their blog or download the video and post it on the Videos page. Some users, however, do not know that they can import the video - by simply selecting the service and entering the URL of the video. You can also do the same on photos, and, as you will see, blog entries.

# 3 Posting Options
In most blogging hosts, we get options on whether to allow comments, or configure the Post date and time. In Multiply, these features are a little more hidden - you can enable them on the Posting Options page. Another feature you can enable is cross posting - I can post a blog entry here on Blogger and it gets automatically posted to Multiply - and vice versa. In fact, this entry is being cross posted to Multiply. You can also enable other media types like Recipes and a Marketplace.

# 2 The Multiply Toolbar
This is a handy Firefox/IE add-on that gives links to the most basic Multiply features from any page on the web. For me, my life on Multiply without the toolbar is unimaginable.

# 1 The Multiply Menu
In most websites, clicking on the logo redirects you to their homepage. In Multiply, clicking the logo opens up a menu for some commonly used links such as the Inbox or the Post New Content Page. This can be used on all pages with the logo on it and what surprises me most is how very few of my friends actually know about it, let alone use it.

Blogger's Choice Awards 2009 is now accepting nominations and votes for next year's winners and I voted for Multiply as Best Blogging Host. I've been using Multiply since the day I got my first taste of the internet (it's kinda famous in the Philippines) and it never failed me. So why am I posting this on blogger? This is my public blog - my multiply is my social blog where I put more personal posts - more like my online journal.

So, I'm campaigning for Multiply - as a blogging host - but more of why it hosts personal blogs better than most other hosts. One of the biggest plus to Multiply's side are the privacy features. In multiply, you can control who can view your blog down to selected individuals. This is great for people who value the privacy and security of the content they post on the internet. Another plus to Multiply is their highly customizable news feed. You can filter posts by content, user, unread posts, comments to your posts or even through a custom filter.

Multiply has always been likened to Facebook - I beg to disagree. First, the features we see on Facebook, the feeds, the design and such, Multiply precedes them. Multiply's version of those features might be even better. People called Multiply as having sour grapes when they claimed that Facebook looks a lot like Multiply. Fact is, they're merely pointing out that Facebook has no right to sue studiVZ because they themselves copied the "look, feel, features, and services" of Multiply themselves. Second is that Facebook is a true social networking service - they're focused on connecting people and they devote their market to having as many users as possible. Multiply is more on the sharing content side. You can even consider Multiply as "blogging plus photo- and video-sharing."

And that brings me to another point on why you should vote for Multiply. Most blog hosts feature one page for the blog plus a sidebar for the widgets. With Multiply, you get a separate page for Photos, Videos, a Linklog, a Sideblog, a Reviews column and several others. Most other blogs are one-dimensional - only Multiply features photo and video embeds. While Multiply is no doubt on of the best private blog hosting sites on the web, Multiply also allows broadcasting to everyone in the world. Multiply also has one of the largest collection of hosted themes for their users - on the official Customized Themes group. Plus, the interface is simple and very easy to use, with most of its features clearly visible to everyone's eyes. This is compared to other blog hosts which are cluttered, complicated and the features that would otherwise make the host great rather hidden.

Kings of Leon has topped the rock charts for a long time in the United States and here in the Philippines, Kings of Leon has scored a number of hits. The thing about Kings of Leon is that they have very distinguishing vocals, which gives the song edge and soothes your mind at the same time. Kings of Leon got international attention with their first single off their latest album Only by the Night called Sex on Fire, which gave Kings of Leon their first number ones in Australia, Ireland and numerous other countries. Filipinos got their first taste of Kings of Leon music with their second single Use Somebody. This is the latest single Notion from the band that continued the Garage Rock Revival legacy of the "The" bands in the early 2000's.

Lost Summer

Three more days and school will start - school characterized by sleepless nights and long boring lectures - another nine long months of waiting for the next summer to arrive. Most students of Philippine Science High School are happily anticipating the opening of classes: I think otherwise. Days of freedom and idleness, I being the master of my time, no school rules to follow, no homework to do - what could possibly be better?

On the brighter side, school also means being with friends - something many PSHS scholars - most especially interns - have been robbed off for the whole summer, since many of the students of the said school come from provinces, some living as far south as Davao and Zamboanga. Most PSHS scholars have succumbed to boredom, due to lack of things to do. As for me, I was kept busy the whole summer through an instrument of utmost torture called MTG - which, for some odd reason, lots of participants seem to enjoy. What could possibly be worse than one month of Math in the middle of what is supposed to be three months of freedom and idleness? And, it is taught by a Chinese teacher whom no one without a background of Mandarin can understand!

However, the thing that I dread most about the opening of classes is the dwindling time. High school has always been a blessing - a liberal amount of freedom considerably much more than that of elementary school students, but much less responsibility than College people. It has always been a big bargain for me - I can do lots of stuff I’m not allowed to do when I was ten but not leaving such a big footprint that one big mistake can ruin my future. June 15 is mocking me - telling me that in two years time, instead of the flagpole area, what I will be seeing is the Oblation when I go to school.
