MSD in Malaysia announced that the National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau (NPCB) of Malaysia has approved a new indication for Gardasil in September 2010.

In addition to the current indications of Gardasil in girls and women aged 9-26 years old for the prevention of cervical cancer, vulvar and vaginal cancers and genital warts caused by Human Papillomavirus(HPV) 6,11,16 & 18, Gardasil is now also indicated in BOYS and MEN, 9 to 26 years of age, for the prevention of genital warts (condyloma acuminata) caused by HPV types 6 and 11.

Gardasil is now indicated for BOTH MALES AND FEMALES aged 9-26 years old.

ZYDENA 100mg/200mg: THE NEW PDE5I FOR ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION.

Zydena is the 4th therapeutic oral new drug for erectile dysfunction in the world. Zydena, which is new drug for ED, induces strong erection by selective inhibition of cGMP-specific PDE5 which is mainly presented in corpora cavernosa.

Its good tolerance and safety were confirmed in phase I,II and III clinical trials. the major adverse drug reactions were flushing, nasal congestion, ocular hyperaemia, headache and dyspepsia, and most of these reactions, which were reported during clinical trials, were slight and voluntarily gone with no therapy. Thus, it is confirmed that Zydena has good safety and tolerance.

Zydena has no inhibitory action to PDE 11 and no report has been made about myagia,back pain and testis toxicity. Zydena has no inhibitory action to PDE11, which is heteoenzyme of PDE, and no report has been made about myalgia, back pain and testis toxicity during clinical trials.

A Malaysian group condemned the uniform worn by girls at government schools, saying it encouraged rape and pre-marital sex.
“The white blouse is too transparent for girls and it becomes a source of attraction,” National Islamic Students Association of Malaysia vice-president Munirah Bahari said in a statement.
“It becomes a distraction to men, who are drawn to it, whether or not they like looking at it,” she said, calling for a review of uniform policy so that it did not violate Islamic ideals.
In multicultural Malaysia, home to majority-Muslim Malays as well as ethnic Chinese and Indians, female students at government schools have a choice of wearing a white blouse with a knee-length skirt or pinafore.
They may also wear a “baju kurung” and a headscarf is optional for Malay students.
Munirah said that “covering up” according to Islamic precepts was important to fend off social ills, including “rape, sexual harassment and even premarital sex.”
“This leads to babies born out of wedlock and, to an extent, even prostitution,” she said.
“Decent clothes which are not revealing can prevent and protect women from any untoward situations,” she said, suggesting that girls wear a blouse of a different colour or with an undergarment.
However, the girls themselves also came in for criticism, with the association saying that some used the white blouse to lure men.
“This is the source of the problem, where we can see that schoolgirls themselves are capable of using this to attract men to them,” Munirah said.
“This could see them getting molested, having premarital sex and all sorts of things.”

The Health Ministry issued this warning after the Drug Control Authority cancelled the product registration after a poison known as sildenafil and its variant, sildenafil analog, were detected in this product.

Sildenafil analog and sildenafil are not allowed to be formulated in a traditional product, the ministry said in a statement last 2 days.

The public is advised against using traditional products containing sildenafil or its analogs without consulting a doctor. The use of such drugs without proper diagnosis and monitoring can lead to adverse effects, including decreased blood pressure and cardiovascular-related symptoms.

Anyone in possession of Pronoton for sale is committing an offence under the Control Of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations, 1984, and is liable to be fined up to a maximum of RM25,000 or sentenced to jail not exceeding three years, or both, for the first offence.

CIRCUMCISION AND AIDS PREVENTION

Male circumcision should now be considered as an additional strategy for HIV prevention in the context of comprehensive prevention programs. Although this is not the latest news, many people still don't know about it. This is important protection but incomplete protection. It is an additional rather than a replacement strategy.

Circumcised men are up to 60% less likely to get HIV, and now the World Health Organization and the UNAIDS program recommend adult surgery to slow the AIDS pandemic.

The advice is based on three clinical trials suggesting that circumcised men are 50% to 60% less likely than uncircumcised men to get HIV during heterosexual sex.

Circumcised men can and do get infected with the AIDS virus. There is, yet, no evidence that male circumcision protects women. But widespread circumcision would have a major impact on the AIDS pandemic, says Catherine Hankins, MD, chief scientific officer for the UNAIDS.

The key WHO/UNAIDS recommendations:
Countries should implement free or low-cost male circumcision programs if a high percentage of their population is uncircumcised, if HIV is widespread, and if HIV spread is predominantly heterosexual. Most such nations are in southern Africa and, to a lesser extent, in eastern Africa.

Circumcision programs initially should target sexually active men -- that is, young men and adolescents.

Circumcision should be part of a comprehensive AIDS risk-reduction program. "It does not replace promotion of safer sex, delay of onset of sexual relations, abstinence, reduction of penetrative sex, reduction in number of partners, and provision of male and female condoms with education on their use," Hankins said.

Medical ethics and human rights must be respected. This included informed consent, confidentiality, and lack of coercion.

Circumcision must be provided by trained personnel in a hygienic manner, with medical follow-up to prevent and treat complications.

After circumcision, men must abstain from sexual relations for at least six weeks after surgery, to ensure that their wounds have healed.

Circumcision must be offered in ways that do not offend cultural norms.

Circumcision is not advised for men already infected with HIV, but circumcision should not be denied to HIV-positive men who want the procedure.

Luckily, this is not the statistic for Malaysian.This is the research from United States. Researchers looked at The National Survey of Family Growth, a national database that interviewed 4,928 men in the United States.

This research suggests that between 1 in 15 and 1 in 10 men have had sexual relationships with more than one woman at the same time in the past year.

Concurrent sexual relationships may have huge implications when it comes to the spread of sexually transmitted disease.

At the same time, a new analysis finds there were an estimated 1 million cases of sexually transmitted diseases among young Californians in 2005.

It is clear we are living in the dark about how common STDs are and how many kids acquire them in a given year.

The number one infection reported in the study was human papillomavirus (HPV), at 590,000 cases followed by trichomoniasis with 250,000 cases.

Therefore, i hope all the Malaysians will aware of the implications of STD if they want to have multiple sex partners.

FDA APPROVES IMPORTANT NEW AIDS DRUG: ISENTRESS

The new medication, also known by its generic name, raltegravir, is the first of what is expected to be a new class of AIDS drugs known as integrase inhibitors

First to benefit from the new medication are thousands of people who have been infected for years and have grown resistant to so many AIDS drugs that they are running out of options.
This is the group that was used to test the new drug in clinical trials. More than 80 percent of those who took Isentress saw the level of virus in their blood drop to barely detectable levels - a sign that the disease is under control.

Patients who are prescribed the drug will take two 400 mg tablets a day, in combination with other AIDS medicines chosen by their physicians.
Isentress is the latest of several AIDS drugs to be approved this year that, in combination, could bolster the immune systems of veteran patients who have built resistance to earlier generation of drugs.

But Isentress won't be cheap. Immediately after receiving FDA approval to market the drug, Merck disclosed that it plans to sell Isentress for $27 a day, or $9,850 per year - making it one of the costlier pills on the market.

Wow,if convert to Malaysia Ringgit, how many Malaysians can afford? Will Ministry of Health support financially to prescribe to HIV patients so that to control the epidemic?? How long for the Drug Control Authority to approve it officially to be available in Malaysia since this is life saving drug??
