Fishtail Bun

So this is me desperately trying to show you my fishtail bun. I've been meaning to figure out how to do a fishtail braid for some time now (#things of major importance); I finally youtubed it and thanks to Lauren Conrad--what up LC!--I now know how. Basically, it's not even a braid. You just split a ponytail into two pieces and take little pieces from each side and lay them on top of each other. Who knew? So I did my little fishtail braid, which made me feel quite proud, despite the fact that on my hair color and texture you couldn't reeeeallly tell it was a fishtail braid, but I knew! Anyway, once I had it done it was just kind of sticking out there like a Pippi Longstocking braid, so I pinned it under and voila, the fishtail bun! I love it, not only because it's an "only I know" kind of thing, I mean about the fishtail part, but because it's kind of sophisticated and hippie art lady at the same time. Digging it. Click on the pics to make them bigger. I don't know why going mosaic on here made my pictures go all tiny.

. Was just thinking today that Kate Moss is just a fantastic fucking model, no matter what she does. Or says, because I believe I was thinking of her saying 'nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.' Put Your Money In Shoes

You know how you do that mental check "pants, Gap, shirt, thrift, shoes, Rag & Bone," like just in case you run into a street style profiler who says quick, go, where's your outfit from? Oh, you don't do that? Right. Right then. Anyway, I do. Which is how it occurs to me that most of my clothes are from the thrift store, what's not from the thrift store is from the Gap and I'm totally cool with that. But none of my shoes are cheap. I have some great vintage ones from the thrift store, but maybe like 8 pairs and the other 60 or so pairs are solid dope shoes. I don't usually pay full price for them, but you just can't really fake a good shoe. And good shoes will last a long time and make you happy every single time you put them on. I think the old advice is true--put your money in your shoes, your coat and your handbag. In California the last two don't matter--so, shoes it is. And when I get some money I would like to put it into these Rag & Bone charcoal suede Harrow booties. Or the burgundy. Also loving the burgundy suede Newbury booties, though not sure about the lighter heel.

Planes Trains and Two Wheel Transportation

Just had a whirlwind two days in New York that included a train ride to and from Philly, a trip to the Met to see the Schiaparelli and Prada exhibit (I am even more in love with Miuccia Prada now) and a bike ride from the East Village to the West Village that was kind of the shit. I in no way wanted to take this bike ride, as it is common wisdom that to ride a bike in a city is to have a death wish, but with a little convincing and a little hair-smashing I was on my way. Best ever! Feels good to do something different every once in a while....
