Located on McMillan Mesa, the new San Francisco de Asis church is a blessing and the result of prayer and support from the SFdA parishioners and many, many friends of SFdA in Flagstaff and across the U.S. especially Phoenix and it’s surrounding cities.

The Mass of Dedication will take place on Saturday, February 2nd at 10:00 a.m.  with the Most Rev. Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted.

After more than 7 years of planning and almost a year of vertical construction, our new catholic church is ready.  We’re proud of our accomplishment and want to share it with the community that may not otherwise see it for Catholic Mass or future meetings or events.

So you know, there will be chairs in the church and not our new pews (they are one of the last items to be placed in the church). Also, the final touches aren’t complete as yet, so the walls may be bare and items you would expect to see in a new church aren’t there. Overall though you will get a sense of all the hard work, time and effort that has been put into the project, as well as a glimpse of what the final church will look and feel like… in my opinion “spectacular” comes to mind.

If you plan to attend any of the Masses, please note that it may take more time to get to the church property, park and walk to the church entrance (especially if we have bad weather conditions).  Plan to arrive early as for many parishioners and others, it will be the first time driving up the mesa to our new location.

Below is a simple map of the church entry roads and surrounding area.  Basically there are two entry roads, one on the south from Route 66 and Ponderosa Parkway, and one on the north side, from Ponderosa Parkway (off of Turquoise Road).  The north entry road is much shorter and may be the best route during heavy snow or bad weather situations.

Also, there are two parking lots (north and south sides).  The south side lot is a large parking area with plenty of spaces, while the north lot is much smaller.  Handicap parking is available right next to the church on both the north and south sides (park perpendicular to the church).

New Church Location

Major construction progress continues inside and outside or our new home on the mesa. Final exterior paneling is going up and nearly covers half of the church, the roof is waiting for it’s final materials, the decorative stone along the outside columns and wainscoting is going up and on the inside, the duct work is complete and the walls are now being finished. Oh, and I forgot to mention that the entry roads and parking lots are complete (asphalt and the parking striping).

It’s truly an exciting time and our church building is starting to look like a Catholic church.  Needless to say, but the church set against the background of the San Francisco peaks is absolutely beautiful and breathtaking!

We’re nearing the final 2+ months of building construction for the church and hope to be permanently in the church the first week of February. For those of you who would like to be notified of the final dates for the Dedication Mass, please send a note from our Contact page.

The roadways and parking lots are expected to be completed in October in addition to the exterior.

San Francisco de Asis Parish is having an on-site walking tour of the new church building project.  The 30-minute walking tour is scheduled for Saturday, August 4th from 7:00am to 11:0am.  SFdA Parishioners and friends of San Francisco de Asis are welcome to learn more about the new church building project.
