We are SO excited to announce our first in a series of 2015 photography workshops‬!

Introducing...

‪Tools Behind the Click‬©

Sundays, March 8, 15 & 22

2-3pm

The workshop will meet once a week for 3 weeks in March (for one hour each time). Our Tools Behind the Click© workshop gives participants a stronger and more confident command of their DSLR camera by teaching fundamental photography techniques including Camera Modes, Exposure, DOF, Composition, Equipment, Lighting, and more. Workshops are a super fun and casual way for you and other photography lovers (4-8 attendees required) to participate in Shadowlands' own curriculum. This group workshop is designed for photography hobbyists ages 17+ (with skill levels ranging from beginner to intermediate). It is offered upon special request as well as on a few pre-determined dates in 2015 (in March, April, May, June and September).

If you love photography and have a DSLR that you feel you are under-utilizing, this is your chance to get a stronger handle on the basics of photography and to explore some more advanced topics as well!

- If you are a professional photographer or are wanting to start your own photography business, these workshops are NOT for you. These workshops are designed for people who do photography for fun and pleasure (NOT for income).

Introducing our Spring 2015 Intern: Samantha Berning

We are so excited to introduce our Spring 2015 High School Intern Samantha Berning. Beauty, brains, talent & grace -- this girl has it all. Samantha is a senior at Concordia Lutheran High School.

She is energetic and health-conscious -- school, soccer, gymnastics, and tennis keep her quite busy, but she is most excited about her Shadowlands Photography Internship class this semester. Sam is very excited to learn about lighting and color within the photography world but as a future entrepreneur, she is also interested in learning about how to manage and operate a small business. Next year she plans to study Cosmetology and Esthiology at Aveda Fredric's Institute in Indianapolis, Indiana. One day she hopes to start her own salon.

"My Shadowlands Photography Internship experience will help me so much now and in the future," accounts Sam, explaining her vision for her internship. "I can't wait to get started and learn more and more each day!"

Our Shadowlands Photography High School Internship Program offers a variety of positions throughout the year, with different opportunities during the spring and fall semesters -- as well as summer. We are committed to training and raising up tomorrow's creatives, entrepreneurs and business leaders so we have developed an active internship program for Fort Wayne high school students.

Samantha's internship involves a wide scope of activities and will provide her valuable experience in the areas of Photography, Branding, Videography, Social Media Marketing, Customer Relations, Product Research & Development, Graphic Design, Packaging, and more.

Celina and I have known each other since she was in my church's youthgroup, so when she contacted me to photograph she and Kyle's engagement and wedding photos, I was completely honored and excited to be able to capture the essence of her wedding day. Building Bridges

I know, I know...it's been FOREVER since I have blogged. The time has come! :)

2014 is off and running to a vigorous start! There are SO many exciting things that are going on around here! I feel like I'm 21 again...giving birth to artistic "babies" I've been carrying inside for months (okay, years). Where should I begin?? What do I share first?

Well, first of all...in addition to my "normal" portrait & wedding photography business, I have multiple personal photography projects that I'm pursuing, planning & shooting right now. I have to keep my lips sealed though for now, however, as not to spoil the surprise. In the weeks coming, I'll leak more and more details. :)

Secondly, I have been teaching photography workshops around the Fort Wayne community more and more every year. And, this winter and spring, I have had the opportunity to teach and inspire budding middle school artists during an aftercare fine arts program at Holy Cross Lutheran School (if you have children in preschool, elementary school or middle school, seriously check this place out...they are a vibrant community).

Our themed photography project last week (see the image immediately above) was to photograph the concept "Building Bridges" So, we placed some of my Holy Cross aftercare photography students (future Concordia Lutheran High School Cadets) on bridges. Lutheran preschools and elementary schools around the city are doing likewise (for CLHS to put on display as part of their décor at the 2014 Cadets in Cadence Auction).

I love seeing the middle schoolers' minds explore different topics...and learn how to transpose concepts into photographic images. It takes patience, but it is moving and encouraging when you see youth blossom into their potential to be powerful, creative, energetic, thoughtful and productive for Good. I am thankful for the chance to push them toward a path on which they realize that they can not only call attention to things around them...but can influence the things in their world.

Delanie is a senior at Concordia Lutheran High School. I just love her description of herself...driven, polite, careful, excited and quiet. What a great balance! She should've said GORGEOUS too but she's way too humble to say that! :)

Delanie was one of the lucky participants in our Fall Senior Picture Event on the second weekend of October. Her flawless makeup was done by the amazing makeup artist Erin Nay and her perfectly romantic locks were created by hair stylist Amber Rodriguez at Profiles Salon.
