It’s time for another exciting Spirit Week at Shaftesbury High School! All students are encouraged to participate.

Monday – Tie Day
Tuesday – Harry Potter Day
Wednesdsay – Nerd Day
Thursday – Titan Day *
Friday – Olympic/Canada Day

* Thursday is the day of the hockey trip for the whole school. Let’s all wear our titan clothing and titan colours to show school pride!

Spirit Week!

Monday, December 14th: Inside Out Day
Wear your hoodies, t-shirts, even sweatpants inside out!

Tuesday, December 15th: Twin Day
Team up with your best friend to create an identical look for the day. Wear the same short, hoodies, jeans... Whatever you have!

Wednesday, December 16th: Hat Day
Wear your favourite hat for the day. Crazy hats are evn better! They can be baseball caps, toques, cowboy hats, et cetera!

Thursday, December 17th: Holiday Wear Day
You can wear any winter holiday related stuff. Examples: mittens, gloves, Santa hats, red stuff, and so on!

Friday, December 18th: Grade Colour Day
Wear your grade colours! (12 = Black, 11 = Blue, 10 = Red, 9 = White) The grade with the most spirit will get extra candy tosses during the pep rally.

Students who dress up every day of the week will have a chance to win the Shaftesbury Spirit Award for their grade!

Student Council Toy Drive!

Think about the joy you felt every Christmas opening up boxes after boxes of presents. Well, thousands of children across Winnipeg may not get any presents this year, because their parents can't afford to buy any.

Shaftesbury's are having a toy drive as this year's Christmas Fundraiser! You can all participate and bring in a toy for period A classes until December 8th (Tuesday). Let's make sure that no child goes without a Christmas present. All toys will count towards grade points. And as a bonus: the winning class will have a pizza party!!

The grade colours are: 9-white, 10-red, 11-blue, 12-black
Students can wear their sports team uniforms for the jersey day!

THE DARK NIGHT - SHS HALLOWEEN DANCE PARTY

Where: Cafeteria
Price: $6.00
Theme: Costumes!

Ticket sales are from Monday to Wednesday, in the front foyer during lunch.
Those who wear costumes will get a dollar back upon entrance!

Some Thoughts About Humanity From the 2010 Graduating Class

What follows are some thoughts about Elie Wiesel’s Night, man’s inhumanity to man, and compassion written by Ms. Krueger’s PGL class:

“Elie Wiesel’s writing helps people to understand that speaking out against injustice is crucial to keeping humanity in this world.”

“We have wars, famines and genocides occurring every day; without compassion, none of these would end…without love for our fellow human beings, we would not feel the need to improve the lives of those who suffer.”

“Whether you’re travelling to a new country for the first time or are in your deathbed, compassion is needed to help us maintain happiness, respect, or even hope…compassion doesn’t start wars…”

“Though each passing year takes the event of the Holocaust further away, it is no excuse to forget about it.”

“The more we learn about what happened, the more compassion and understanding we gain…but unfortunately, our knowledge falls short when it comes to matters such as the genocides in Siberia, Rwanda, and Darfur.”

“Although many would like to say we have learned from (the Holocaust) and it’s not happening anymore, it’s only because our media makes us unaware of it….without (memoirs) like Night we will never truly be able to learn from our mistakes.”

“It is an absolute necessity to explain to everyone what people went through in the Holocaust in order to prevent genocide from occurring again and to help those who are enduring its threat today.”

“Only by teaching (about the Holocaust) and ensuring that it is never forgotten can human ignorance be fought against, to end all present genocide and ensure that it never returns in the future.”
