Along with a coterie of friends, Shagreene helped buddy Tawfik Mounayer conceptualize and execute the set for Tribune Standard’s fall 2012 presentation at Pier 59 Studios. Set color: Benjamin Moore French Beret. Meanwhile, up at the tents at Lincoln Center, my friends Kelly Porter and Bridgett Cochran of Porter Teleo received friends and clients at the Mercedes-Benz Star Lounge. The room was entirely covered in “Silk Scarf,” one of their most popular hand-painted fabric and wallpaper patterns.

My immensely talented friend Fedele Spadafora had a solo show at Rooster Gallery on Orchard Street. Dubbed “Wonder Women,” the show was held in association with the non-profit group Wonder Women and depicts portraits of dynamic ladykind.

Walking home from yoga tonight, I stumbled past 77 Barrow Street which was lit up in full Christmas regalia. Given today’s mild weather and a fall that has completely flown by, it caught me off guard that Christmas is only 20 days away. I learned the resident on the ground floor with the striped curtain decorates the exterior of the building every year. For some reason, this was the first thing that put me in the holiday spirit. In terms of design, there was something fresh about the green on green theme. Happy Holidays!

FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT PERFECTION

I’d never even heard of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Gordon House until recently. It is the only project the architect did in the state of Oregon and it might just be my dream house. It is both formal, casual, grand and petite all at the same time. Starting in the 1930s, Wright began making smaller houses as part of his Usonian movement, which brought about cultural shifts in residential design – open floor plans, carports, flat cantilevered roofs, radiant floors and floor-to-ceiling windows. It was completed in 1964 for Conrad and Evelyn Gordon, who lived there for over 30 years. In 2000, the Gordon’s descendants sold it and the structure was moved 24 miles away to The Oregon Garden, where it was restored and is currently the only Wright structure open to the public in the Pacific Northwest. In other Frank Lloyd Wright news, the last remaining hotel designed by the architect recently reopened in Mason City, Iowa. Check out the Historic Park Inn, but judging from the photos, it fell into unsophisticated hands and looks like a mess.

TURRELL AT 505 FIFTH AVENUE

“I don’t need a cord to tie me down,” said the light at MoMA. I noticed these awesome little lights on the bar at The Modern the other night. They come with a rechargeable battery, feature a dimmer switch and have a variety of great designs perfect for your terrace or that restaurant you’re working on. They’re made by an Australian company called Neoz and distributed in North America through a company called GreenChance Inc. out of Culver City, CA.

I’m slightly obsessed with this pendant and candleholder from Tom Dixon. Available exclusively in the USA at Design Within Reach, they’re part of a collection of geodesic lights micro-etched in brass. They’re really good buys at $375 for the pendant and $55 for the candleholder. Dixon says the patterns are inspired by pure mathematics, but after learning he was born in Tunisia, I can totally see the Moorish influence on these pieces.

We recently finalized a web site for an upscale shoe and handbag store in Los Angeles called Parashu. Located in Koreatown Plaza, Parashu is the store the Barneys girl doesn’t know but should.

OWCZAREK: SCULPTEUR EXTRAORDINAIRE

This past June in London, I attended the antiques show Masterpiece where I discovered the work of Paris-based sculptor Jacques Owczarek. Primarily focused on animal figures, Owczarek is self-taught and represented by Galerie Pierre Dumonteil in Paris. I find his work incredibly inspiring.

This concrete chair, a hilarious homage to Le Corbusier‘s LC-2 chair from 1928 is kind of brilliant. Designed by Zurich-based designer Stefan Zwicky in 1980, the chair is up at auction May 25th at Sotheby’s in Paris. Estimate between $20,000 – $35,000. Michal Spitzer is a Los Angeles-based interior designer, blogger and all around stylish chick. She writes the cool blog Style Curator and has worked with Michael Smith and most recently with Ruthie Sommers. She lives in Venice with her boyfriend Paul Davis, a freelance film production manager, in a live-work loft space within walking distance to Abbott Kinney and the beach. Heaven!
