Some places in London just call you back and today, Holborn did exactly that.

I found myself returning to My Old Dutch, a Sweet Brunch Spots in Central London,I’ve visited before, but somehow it felt just as indulgent as the first time. There’s something about knowing what you’re about to order that quiet confidence in a choice that never disappoints.

This time, I opted (again, unapologetically) for their Nutella pancake. Thin, golden, delicately crisp at the edges and generously layered with that smooth hazelnut richness. It’s the kind of sweetness that feels comforting rather than overpowering.

And to help balance out the sweetness I had a cold salted caramel latte. silky, lightly salted and perfectly chilled. The pairing was intentional a sweet mix perfectly elevated.

Holborn itself has that understated London charm busy yet refined and slipping into this cosy Dutch corner feels like pressing pause on the city’s rhythm.

Sometimes sophistication isn’t about extravagance. It’s about returning to something simple, done beautifully. If you’re looking for some Dutch pancakes in London, My Old Dutch in Holborn is a must-visit.

My Experience at Bannatyne Spa Chingford

I recently spent a relaxing day at Bannatyne Health Club & Spa in Chingford, and it was the perfect way to unwind while still staying active. This spa offers a great mix of fitness and relaxation, making it ideal for a balanced wellness day.

We began our visit with a gym workout at Bannatyne Chingford, which was a great way to boost energy before heading into the spa facilities. After the workout, we made our way to the jacuzzi, where the warm water helped soothe tired muscles and encouraged complete relaxation.

One of the highlights of the day was enjoying three spa treatments. I had a facial, a back massage, and a scalp massage, each designed to help you fully switch off. Cranberry Orange Shortbread Cookies (Easy 5- ingredients

These cranberry orange shortbread cookies are buttery, tender, and lightly sweet with pops of tart cranberry in every bite. Made with just a handful of simple ingredients, this classic shortbread dough comes together quickly and bakes up perfectly crisp at the edges and soft in the center. They’re ideal for the holidays, gifting, or a cozy afternoon treat with tea.

Cranberry Orange Shortbread Recipe

Ingredients

1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter, softened

½ cup (60 g) powdered sugar

Zest of 1 orange

2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour

½ cup dried cranberries, chopped

¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar until smooth.
Mix in the orange zest and salt.
Add the flour and mix just until a soft dough forms. Fold in the cranberries.
Shape the dough into a log about 2 inches thick and wrap in parchment or plastic wrap. Chill for at least 1 hour.
Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Slice the chilled dough into ½-inch rounds and place on the baking sheet.
Bake for 14–18 minutes, until the edges are just lightly golden.
Cool on the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Storage:
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week, or freeze for up to 3

months.

A Night in Amalfi — Launch Party

Last night, I had the pleasure of attending the launch party for Amalfi at St Paul’s London, the newest gem bringing the vibrant soul of the Amalfi Coast right to the heart of London.

Tucked beside the iconic cathedral, this stunning new restaurant serves up sun-drenched Italian charm with every detail, from its beautiful decor and tantalising menu.

As soon as I arrived, the atmosphere was buzzing — glasses of Prosecco clinking and waiters weaving through the crowds with trays of small plates of delicious looking food. Here’s a little taste of what I sampled and why you absolutely need to book a table soon.

What We Tried:

We grazed our way through a delicious spread: from fresh rock oysters, wild mushroom fondue, crispy arancini, bruschetta, tomato salad, and a perfectly blistered sourdough pizza which is was divine.

The truffle fries were dangerously good and very moorish, but we ended the night on a high note with a rich chocolate fondue that stole the show.

Final Thoughts:
Amalfi at St Paul’s is more than just a restaurant, it’s a love letter to coastal Italy, and I’m so glad I got to experience it from day one. Whether you’re popping in for pasta at lunch or sipping spritzes or on a night out, this place is bringing the sunshine to a grey London in the best way. Amalfi is now open at St Paul’s London. Walk ins available but reservations recommended.

Peckham Comedy Festival

Independent cinema Pop Up Screens is back this winter, taking over Peckham's pop with a season of exciting and immersive events. In-between themed cinema screenings (Forbidden Forest Cinema and Cinema in the Snow), Pop Up Screens will be trying its hand at comedy for the first time, launching the Peckham Comedy Festival.

LONDON MURAL FESTIVAL IS NOW OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

The eagerly awaited London Mural Festival (LMF) is now open to the public with over 200 artists painted murals from Walthamstow to Wembley Park throughout September and October, with 75 plus large-scale murals and activations, most of which will last for years to come.

The public are encouraged to download the latest map – https://www.londonmuralfestival.com/map and go and explore murals by well-known artists such as Camille Walala, Conor Harrington, D*Face, Marija Tiurina and Seb Lester.

You can expect futuristic bridges, giant portraits, canal boats (if you can find them), theatres, gable-ends, air-vents, council estates and some of the biggest, brightest and best murals in the world. Please adhere to current government guidelines on Coronavirus (COVID-19) when visiting murals.

Lee Bofkin, CEO and Co-Founder of Global Street Art, the organisation behind the London Mural Festival commented "LMF is about increasing the amount of public art in London and giving artists a canvas to showcase their work in public. It has been a huge task to make LMF a reality and we are proud to deliver one of the world's biggest celebrations of muralism. We hope LMF has fostered a sense of pride in our streets and has brought positivity, unity and colour to London in these uncertain times.”

There was an open call for artists to participate and LMF received over 500 applications. Local, national and international artists were selected and showcased their work across the city, with more than 15 nationalities being represented, whilst the majority of murals were painted by UK-based artists. LMF aimed to be inclusive in both artwork and artist background.

Out of respect for creative freedom and the broad range of locations that were painting, LMF did not ask artists to follow a specific topic or theme. Whilst artists were allowed to express their own style, LMF consistently sought to reflect the wishes of the wall owners, occupants and local communities, and through consultation, landlords and communities chose the artists and artwork that they felt best suits to their location.

Halloween Treats - Squeamish Squares

Ingredients:

150g Shredded Wheat

x6 Yorkie Bars

50g Marshmallows

200g Golden Syrup

1 Pack of Strawberry Laces

1 Pack of Jelly Tots

1 Bag of Milky Bars Buttons

Method:

Grease and line a 20cm square tin
Melt the Yorkie Bars and Golden Syrup together over a bowl of simmering hot water until melted.
Mix the Shredded Wheat and half of the Jelly Tots, Jelly Worms, and Marshmallows into a bowl and then stir in the Yorkie and Golden Syrup mixture until combined.
Pour the mixture into the tin and place in the fridge for a least an hour to set.
Melt the Milky Bar buttons and scatter across the top adding the rest of the jelly tots
Once set cut into squares.

The largest Bronze Age hoard ever to be discovered in London, and the third-largest in the UK, will be the focal point of Havering Hoard: A Bronze Age Mystery, the Museum of London Dockland’s new major exhibition opening Friday 11 September.

The exhibition will put the 453 tools, weapons and other objects that make up the entirety of the hoard on display to the public for the very first time. Displaying the hoard alongside objects from both the archaeological site itself and the museum’s collection, the exhibition digs deep into Bronze Age life during a time when the land where London now exists was a very different place.

Starting with the moment of discovery, Havering Hoard: A Bronze Age Mystery will take visitors on a journey back through time to explore the mysteries, myths and realities surrounding the hoard’s burial.

Highlights include:

All 453 never seen before objects from the Havering Hoard
Objects from the Museum of London’s permanent collection including Bronze Age crania showing evidence of blunt force trauma, telling a wider story of Bronze Age life thousands of years ago
Immersive photography and film projection recreating the experience of a Bronze Age landscape
A map from the Portable Antiquities Scheme displaying the location of more than 1,500 hoards across England and Wales helping to plot settlements on a wider scale
3D renderings of some of the key objects from the hoard to allow closer examination including a terret ring, a sword fragment and a socketed axe head – all exceptionally rare examples of Bronze Age life

The design of the exhibition is arranged around the movement of the sun, its rise in the east and setting in the west, bringing the discovery of the Hoard to life. Starting with the moment the first object was found as the sunset late on a Friday evening in September 2018, visitors will be able to immerse themselves in the wonder of uncovering such a significant find. Clues left by the hoard about the people who lived and worked in the area during the Late Bronze Age will be examined before exploring how connected their society was to Europe almost 3,000 years ago. Visitors will then find themselves back in the present day, with a chance to examine some of the objects in greater detail while finding out more about the people involved in the discovery of the Havering Hoard and the work that’s still to be done.

We particularly enjoyed the cinematic portrait of a spruce tree, the entire exhibition will leave you mesmerised and at one with nature, a relaxing walk among the trees left us feeling inspired and relaxed.

Women Supporting Women Challenge originated in Turkey. Turkey has one of the highest countries in the world regarding femicides, we may never know the exact number of murders each year, but from what I have read there are many, there have been several deaths this year alone.

The challenge is a lot more than a collection of black and white pretty selfies, the challenge was started by @zeycan_rochelle to bring to light to the injustices women in Turkey face. It's called Femicide where in turkey women are accustomed to seeing black and white photos of other women murdered by men.

The Women Supporting Women Challenge is a way for women around the world to stand in solidarity with the women we have lost and those that continue to suffer violence. Let us all stand together and empower each other.

London Galleries Are Re-Opening

We have all been missing London’s amazing museums and galleries This week, three galleries are ready to welcome back its visitors with new exhibits and updated health and safety measures in place.

The Barbican Centre Art Gallery and Conservatory reopening

The Barbican will reopen its Art Gallery and Conservatory on Monday 13 July. The Art Gallery will welcome visitors back with Masculinities: Liberation through Photography, a photography and film exhibit that explores how masculinity is experienced, performed, coded and socially constructed. In line with government guidelines, new safety measures will be in place and tickets will need to be booked online.

Somerset House reopening

Somerset House will be re-opening part of the site to visitors on Thursday 16 July. This will include the critically acclaimed free exhibition Mushrooms: The Art, Design and Future of Fungi extended through the summer, the magnificent courtyard, and the on-site café Hej (takeaway only). Re-opening plans meet all current government guidelines, which will be reviewed and updated regularly.

Whitechapel Gallery reopening

Whitechapel Gallery will be reopening to the public on Tuesday 14 July with new health and safety measure in place. The spring exhibition programme, including Radical Figures: Painting in the New Millennium, Carlos Bunga’s monumental environment and Spain’s most important collection of contemporary art from the “la Caixa” Foundation will be extended through the summer.

I love Instagram highlights as they allow you to save your Instagram Stories (which vanish after 24 hours) into your Highlights which will then live permanently on your profile. Instagram Highlights are great for adding collections of your favourite images in one places all of which your followers old and new can check out. They also create a really good first impression of your profile.

How To Create an Instagram Highlight and Edit Highlight Image:

Go to your profile and tap Story Highlights below your username and bio.
Tap + and select the story or stories you want to add to highlights, then tap Next.
Tap Edit Cover > Choose a cover photo > Tap Done.
Enter a story name for your highlight, then tap Add (iPhone) or Done (Android).
You can add more photos or videos to your highlight at any time by tapping and holding on the highlight and then tapping Edit Highlight.
Select “Edit cover”
Press on the “image” icon at the beginning of the list. If you have a lot of photos and in a Highlight, you might have to scroll to the left. ...
Choose a cover from your camera roll.

Highlight Covers:

You can get highlight covers free from various apps and online or why not make your own using PicMonkey or Canva.

The free version I like to use is Highlight Cover and Maker which is available to download via mobile app - they have quite options for the free version, I find this app simple and quick to use, they do have other icons and backgrounds you can use, but you will need to purchase them at £6.99, but if you want to use them for commercial use you will have to pay more.
Story Highlight Cover is another mobile app - they also have a small selection of free highlights you can use and lots of lovely background colours you can choose from.

How To Make an Instagram Highlight Cover in PicMonkey:

Start with a blank canvas that’s set to Instagram Stories dimensions (1080 x 1920 pixels)
Choose a background colour
Head to Graphics and choose an icon from the collection
Customize your graphic (I changed mine to black see above image)
Click download to computer to get your design out of PicMonkey and into Instagram

How To Make your own Canva Highlight Cover:

Download the Canva app
Open Canva app and select “Instagram story”
Choose the blank template and select your background colour
Add text or an icon +
Design change colour of the icons if you wish
Save the images on your phone
Design more covers and create your highlights
