The Chinese are now ludicrously labeling the Dali Lama a terrorist. One wonders what lows the regime will go to next. If Western countries grow some backbone perhaps China's precious Olympics might be in jeopardy. Then again unfortunately money is paramount and not our democratic and human rights principles.

Choctaw native American community donates to the Mayo Shell to Sea campaign

Interesingly, the Native American Choctaw Community has donated to the Corrib oil campaign. The Shell to Sea campaign is trying to prevent the installation of a Shell gas terminal and pipeline. What is interesting is that the Choctaw previously donated money to Ireland during the famine. They donated $710 to Ireland in 1847 for famine relief. They have now donated the equvalent in current monies to the campaign - $8000. Ireland recently donated to the Choktaw following Hurrincane Katrina.

The Gas pipeline will destroy local natural habitats. It is also very unsafe as the pipeling will be extremely high pressure and is going through bogland which is prone to landslides. A possible terrorist target also given the Irish governments blank check to the US to use Shannon as a stop enroute to Iraq.
No doubt the recently elected Green Party will do something about this - or will they just continue to capitulate to Bertie and Co as they have done thus far!

Putin threatens to target Europe with missiles

Hmm..... I am shocked by the fact that new members of the EU are potentially going to host US missile silo bases on EU soil. It's a disgrace that these new members to the European Union are allowed to do such things without the possibility of being ejected from the EU. Already the CIA has had at least two secret black-ops prisons in operation in Eastern Europe. In which most likely all manner of torture was being enacted on renditioned prisoners. The two offending countries are Romania and Poland. There should be some penalties for these human rights violations.

Putin has threatened to target Europe, potentially using nuclear missiles. He considers U.S. plans to build an eastern European anti-missile site to shoot down Iranian missiles a provocation aimed at Russia.

I believe this is contrary to what Europe should stand for - i.e. free, just and democratic principles. Now these Eastern countries are also figuring on hosting these missile bases purely for financial gain.

A New Space Race?

Having been allegedly been rebuffed by the US on their joining moon mission offer, Russia has joined up with China to explore Mars. It seems this will mainly focus on the external Mars environment. Russia is also pushing for a manned mission to the Moon by 2015.

Perhaps all this news will not actually for tell the commencement of a new space race. 14 international space agencies have revealed a common vision for globally co-ordinated missions to the Moon and Mars. These nations are:
ASI (Italy); BNSC (UK); CNES (France); CNSA (China); CSA (Canada); CSIRO (Australia); DLR (Germany); ESA (European Space Agency); ISRO (India); JAXA (Japan); KARI (Republic of Korea); NASA (USA); NSAU (Ukraine); and Roscosmos (Russia).

They have just launched a joint document entitled "The Global Exploration Strategy: The Framework for Coordination."

Noted in the document "Sustainable space exploration is a challenge that no one nation can do on its own," but it does not actually mean there will be a single space program. It's said to me more a co-ordination mechanism whereby it is voluntary and non binding. We shall wait and see if this heralds a brand new direction in human space co-operation or if a US vs Russia\China space race ensues.

Interesting times ahead...

The IRFU welcomed a possible breakthrough in Heineken Cup negotiations.

English and French clubs had previously decided to boycott the competition.

Tomorrow it is expected to be announced that the Heineken Cup will go ahead next year in its current format.
I would imagine that had the Heineken cup gone the way of the dodo then teams would see a huge drop in sponsorship revenues. Here's to Leinster storming to victory next year!

It's corruption that has greased the wheels of the Celtic Tiger. The last few weeks have seen payments come to light that threaten the Taoiseach's already dented reputation. Of course it conveniently coincides with a new election.
Either way the Taoiseach will need to more than a teary eyed TV interview to fight back the latest allegations.

The most amazing thing about the Irish public is how approval ratings go up even in light of corruption charges. As if it is okay to be on the take as an appointed official of the land. Or is it just voter apathy?
Even today Fianna Fail's ratings have increased.

Yesterday Mr Ahern stated that he was "not a crook". Another political leader who famously said that was Richard Nixon.

One question persists: How could the then finance minister not have a bank account from 1986 to 1993?

Scientists claim that the recent 'colony collapse' of bees is the result of mobile phone usage. They believe that the signals interfer with the bee's navigation system and thus they are not able to find their way back to their hives. Now the scientists have evidence to back these claims.
