I love cymatics, but haven’t tried making my own. Might also be a fun exercise for one of my uni classes. I would like to do more audiovisual stuff, and am in the (slow) process of teaching myself Max/MSP/Jitter.

Share this Course looks good – thanks for the tip! I’d get involved if I wasn’t so busy right now.

I just saw some of the cymatics pages (visible sound page) via the Share this Course site/project/class I’m on (maybe u should come & play there too & share your SADs). have u tried any of those? making the images too from the different sound inputs?

Interesting how relative the term young is. In my mind, it’s under about 30, but in the classical music world, and academia for that matter, it’s more like 40, and for politics, maybe 50.

Mid-30s is a weird time of feeling simultaneously young and not-young as there’s a generation gap with both the genuinely young and the genuinely old.

Yeah I like that photo too. It was taken by Mark Gunderson on top of Twin Peaks, San Francisco in 2006.

Hi Shannon,
just returned after 2 months touring and had assumed that Pursuit had been ignored by new music reviewers as is a common experience. Then I came across what you wrote. Thanks and appreciated that you took the trouble.

What you wrote about the acoustics is interesting. I actually cut the PA out completely on at least 10 occasions. And from where we were, the difference was quite dramatic, but then I imagine in other spots the result was other.

As you point out, riding a bike around the track would also have been a great way to hear the event.

I’m going to blog the Australian Music Centre site about the socio-political aspects of the piece.
