What you wrote about the acoustics is interesting. I actually cut the PA out completely on at least 10 occasions. And from where we were, the difference was quite dramatic, but then I imagine in other spots the result was other.

As you point out, riding a bike around the track would also have been a great way to hear the event.

Actually the only bummer about closing aus_emusic is that the messages are gone. There were some interesting discussion threads on the list which pop up in the googleverse. Would be good if Yahoo et you shut the list without deleting the messages.

Agreed that email is a massive chore these days… I reckon my life would actually be better off without it. That said, I remember when i used to start the day with 1.5 hours of reading and responding to my email lists. Those were the days!! I remember i had a lot less other email to deal with tho’!

What I don’t understand, and maybe you can explain, is why so much spam these days doesn’t seem to be selling anything (or phishing) and doesn’t include any links. It’s just a one-way transmission of nonsense. A dadaist internet intervention?

I also want to know why, given that everyone hates spam, it impairs productivity, profits, etc. don’t the governments of the world use their resources (such as echelon?) to do more to eliminate it?

Actually these things are designed to defeat bayesian spam filters by overwhelming them with cut and pasted content (sometimes you’ll find slabs of famous literature and stuff like that).
