Manage Access Requests to e-mail addresses

Hi All,
If you want to use Manage Access Requests Feature for your site or need to move it to another owner, you can simply follow these steps:
1- From Site Settings, navigate to Permissions -> Manage Access Requests
2- Check Allow requests for access
3- add/update e-mail address fields

Note: The owner of the e-mail address should have the Full Control permission level.

Hi All,
Most of us are developing multilingual applications/portals. we used using resource files to support localization. SharePoint has a built-in MUI functionality. So, Even if you aren’t currently supporting multiple languages, I encourage you to understand the MUI and its capabilities. Some day you may find yourself with a task of supporting multiple languages, understanding the out of box capabilities can save you many hours of work.

Also, you might be asking yourself, “what about content?” If a user types something in a wiki page, is that automatically translated? The answer here is no. You can experiment by creating a new site page and then editing it with some text. Change the site language, and the text remains the same. OK, understandable.

What about my code that displays strings, can it be localized? The answer here is a resounding yes. The .NET Framework provides extensive support for localization, as does SharePoint, but only when you leverage it.

How to use multiple Exchange and SharePoint calendars in one SharePoint calendar

Hi All,

A SharePoint calendar enables you to work with multiple Exchange and SharePoint calendars at the same time. For example, a group calendar is helpful when you schedule a team meeting, because you can see the Exchange calendars of team members and SharePoint calendars of resources, such as conference rooms, in one group calendar view.

To Add multiple SharePoint and Exchange calendars to a SharePoint calendar:

To change calendar settings, you must have at least the design permission level for the site.

In a SharePoint calendar, in the ribbon, on the Calendar tab, click Calendar Overlays.
In the Calendar Overlay Settings page, click New Calendar.

To add a SharePoint calendar

In the Name and Type section, type the Calendar Name and then select SharePoint.
In the Calendar Overlay Settings section, type a Description for the calendar (optional), and change the Color theme for the calendar (optional).

Tip Selecting different colors for different calendars makes it easier to distinguish which calendar an event is from.

Type the Web URL for the SharePoint site that the calendar is in, such as https://contoso.com/TWGroupWorkSite/calendar, and then click Resolve. If the calendar is in the same site as the group calendar, Web URL will already be populated accurately.
Click the List drop-down arrow and select the calendar that you want to add to the calendar.
Click the List View drop-down arrow and select the view that you want to use for the calendar.
If you want this SharePoint calendar to always display in the SharePoint group calendar, select Always Show.

To add an Exchange calendar

In the Name and Type section, type the Calendar Name and select Exchange.
In the Calendar Overlay Settings section, type a Description for the calendar (optional), and change the default Color theme for the calendar (optional).

Tip Selecting different colors for different calendars makes it easier to distinguish which calendar an event is from.

Click Find. Outlook Web Access URL and Exchange Web Service URL will be filled in automatically. If Find does not work in your environment, type the URLs manually

And set TargetSearchResultPage URL to customized page contains Search Core Results webpart.
This met my need exactly. Hope this can help you also.

The product group released the delayed August 2011 Cumulative Update for the SharePoint 2010 product family.

Be aware that the August Cumulative Update for SharePoint 2010 is a Post-SP1 hotfix. That means that you should ensure that SP1 is installed before the August CU.

SharePoint 2010 SP1 and the June Cumulative Update for SharePoint 2010

The Microsoft Office Sustained Engineering Team announced Service Pack 1 (SP1) for SharePoint 2010.

SP1 contains a number of important fixes that improve the SharePoint experience for our customers. With the recommendation to install SP1 for SharePoint came a recommendation to ALSO deploy the June Cumulative Update (CU) for SharePoint simultaneously.

It’s worth explaining this recommendation in detail and answering some common questions about how / why we made this recommendation.

First, to explain the difference between SP1 and the June CU.

SharePoint 2010 SP1 contains all SharePoint updates published through the April 2011 Cumulative Update in addition to other fixes that were applied specifically to SP1 during its development. SP1 is a baseline, and that baseline is tied to our Service Pack Life Cycle Policy. We recommend applying SP1 to your SharePoint environment because it resets the baseline for your entire SharePoint environment, and prepares your environment for future releases such as the June CU.
The June Cumulative Update is the first Post-SP1 build released to customers. It contains new fixes to issues raised through various escalation channels and through our support organization. The June CU is based on Service Pack 1, but it adds new updates to some of (not all) the packages that SP1 installs.

The recommended approach is to apply Service Pack 1 and the June CU into an environment together. Because the packages changed by the June CU supersede SP1, the order of installation isn’t critical. If you install the CU before SP1, the packages that the CU updated won’t be overwritten by SP1. Because the June CU is from a later build than SP1, many will be comfortable installing SP1 first, and then applying the CU.

A separate topic of conversation is the order in which you should apply SharePoint Foundation vs. SharePoint Server Updates. Per the guidance from the SharePoint team, when applying SP1 or the CU it is recommended to apply the Foundation packages before applying the server packages.

The recommended order of installation is as follows:

Update Foundation first: SharePoint Foundation 2010 Service Pack 1
Service Pack 1 for SharePoint Foundation 2010 Language Pack
June 2011 CU for SharePoint Foundation 2010

Then SharePoint Server: SharePoint Server 2010 Service Pack 1
Service Pack 1 for Server Language Pack 2010
June 2011 CU for SharePoint Server 2010

You can then run the Configuration Wizard (PSConfig) one time on all boxes.

There was a problem found in both the 2010 Server Rollup Packages which required a fix and for the patches to be rebuilt. The current guidance is that we should see it released during the week of 3/7/2010.(Oops - too eager with the cut and paste from February!) Feel free to open a support case if you have any questions around this or need assistance getting these patches deployed.

As Project Server 2010 is now based on SharePoint Server 2010 we strongly recommend that you install the Project Server 2010 Server Rollup Package as there are a large number of individual server packages for SharePoint Server. The Project Server 2010 Server Rollup Package contains all the patches released in this Cumulative Update for SharePoint Foundation Server 2010, SharePoint Server 2010 and Project Server 2010.
For those accustomed to Project Server 2007 Cumulative Updates, you should note that the MOSS Server Rollup Package does not contain the Project Server patches. You will need to make sure that you install the MOSS + Project Server Rollup Package (the link is provided below). As in Project Server 2007, the Server Rollup Packages are much larger but they will greatly simplify your Project Server patch deployment.
Client Installation:
Installation of the client patch is straightforward and is the same as it was in Project 2007. The instructions for installing the client patch are below.

Service Pack 2 for both WSS and Office Servers 2007 are required for this Cumulative Update. The KB articles below provide information on how to download and install SP2 if you have not already done so.

The Server CU is released in two different versions. The first version is in Individual Packages specific to a particular product like WSS and Project Server. These are smaller downloads but they do not include language packs or patches for other products so patches for those products would have to be downloaded and installed separately.
The second version is the Server Rollup Packages. This is a set of two rollup packages which contains all the fixes for WSS, Project Server and MOSS. These packages should be used when MOSS is part of the deployment and/or you have language packs installed. The Server Rollup Packages are much larger but they will greatly simplify MOSS patch deployment.
Client Installation:
In order to install this hotfix, you will need to have Microsoft Project 2007 SP2 installed on the client.

Once we know that SP2 is installed, you will install the hotfix by performing the following steps:
NOTE: Microsoft strongly recommends testing within a NON-Production environment prior to rollout.

Download the hotfix from either the KB Article or by using the information at the end of this email.
Extract the patch package by running the .exe file that you downloaded.
Run the extracted .exe file to apply the patch to your Project Professional/Standard SP1 client.

Installation Details:

Hi All,

Ari Ijäs shared a nice post includes a simple steps to configure Search Services Application in SharePoint Server 2010 to crawling for anonymous SharePoint site. I think this is the best practice and the easiest way to crawl an Internet SharePoint site:

Enable Windows Authentication for SharePoint web application in anonymous zone

First of all anonymous SharePoint-site should have Windows Authentication enabled. Make sure that you enabled it for the web application in CA:

Open SharePoint 2010 Central Administration
Click Manage web applications under Application Management-section
Select your web application's row
Click Authentication Providers from ribbon
Click Internet-zone (or what ever is defined for your anonymous site)
Make sure that Enable Windows Authentication and Integrated Windows authentication are checked
Click OK

Enable Windows Authentication for anonymous IIS web site

Second thing you need to check is the configuration of you anonymous web site under IIS. You need to check that Windows Authentication is enabled for your IIS web site. You have to perform this task to all crawl servers.

For IIS 7:

Click Start -> Administrative Tools -> Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
Click Sites
Select your anonymous site
Double-click Authentication under IIS-section in the Features View
Select Windows Authentication and click Enable from the Actions-pane on the right side of the window

Give full read access to default content access account

You should have a dedicated domain account that is used as a default content access account. This is important since this account is used by the crawler in any of the servers in your farm that has been assigned as crawl servers.

Default content access account needs to have Full Read-permissions to the SharePoint web application you are crawling.

Open SharePoint 2010 Central Administration
Click Manage web applications under Application Management-section
Select your web application's row
Click User Policy from the ribbon
Click Add Users
Click Next
Input your default content access account to Users-box
Select Full Read under Permissions
Click Finish

Set default content access account in Search Administration

You need to define a default content access account in the Search Administration.

Open SharePoint 2010 Central Administration
Click Manage service applications under Application Management-section
Click Search Service Application to open Search Administration
In System Status-panel you will see Default content access account. Click on the right side of that row to define an suitable account
Input your default content access account and password and click OK

That's it! Start a full crawl for your content source and you should see anonymous items crawled successfully.
