Although Multi Commander comes in both installer and portable versions, we liked the ability to create our own portable versions from the installed program. We managed to install it on a USB storage device. We were immediately impressed when we opened the program because the user interface is distinct from the conventional Windows Explorer although it may be a little daunting to a beginner at first.
The dual-view user interface allowed us to click on tabs in one window and see the contents in another window. We could choose the percentages the windows would take or even select full pane width. The tabs allowed us to keep multiple folders open at the same time, which made it more convenient and faster to switch between them.
Another feature that pleased us was the ability of this free file manager to open different file formats without starting other applications. These formats include JAR, TAR, BZ2, GZ, RAR, ZIP and 7-ZIP. We could also view and edit properties of audio files. We used a hotkey to toggle between drives and renamed several files at the same time by specifying some renaming rules.
We compared several files and selected them based on different options, such as those that were similar.
Have you ever struggled to record the location of a particular file on your computer? Multi Commander makes the process as easy as pressing a button to copy the full path to the clipboard and pasting it where you want.
However, we did not like the fact that the "thumbnail view" made the folders too small. We tried several times to make them larger under settings but they would return to their original sizes whenever we restarted the program. The cursor also kept flickering, which can make it challenging to make the desired selection. It was also difficult to make it the default explorer but we created a shortcut on the desktop.
Verdict
File management is important in any system, and Multi Commander makes it easier to deal with hundreds or even thousands of files. The program is ideal for experienced users.

Microsoft has officially announced Windows 10, not Windows 9 like most people were expecting. It looks to be a rather big update and at the event in San Francisco, Microsoft only revealed small parts of the new update.

Windows 10 will be available for all types of devices, anything from a four-inch smartphone to an 80-inch TV. Microsoft is looking for incredible scalability as well, with Windows 10 able to run on a small microprocessor or on something fit for Azure servers.

Windows 10 is for everyone – and it runs deeper than the scale. Microsoft has turned back on the radical ideas of Windows 8, the Metro UI and full touch-interface, replacing it with a more timid crossover between Windows 7 and Windows 8.

This crossover looks to be the bridge in the gap we all want. It brings back the Start Menu, but with a new funky Metro UI. For power users, Microsoft is adding Task View and Snap Attachments, to give second or third monitor users more room to work and be productive.

Microsoft is also pushing Windows 10 to the enterprise, with more security, a simple interface that does not need to be “taught” to employees and a bigger split between personal and professional accounts.

Windows 10 comes with some of the more controversial Windows 8 features, like the Charms menu and the Metro UI for Touch. Microsoft has toned down these features and looks to make them only for touch users, keeping keyboard and mouse users happy.

What we didn’t get from the announcement were facts. We still don’t know how much Windows 10 will cost, if it will be a subscription model or free for Windows 8 buyers. We do know that it will be released after BUILD on April 2015, but Microsoft wouldn’t talk about universal apps or Windows Phone.

Torch Browser is a web browser that's based on Google Chrome.

Overall, Torch Browser is a great browser for users who download lots of media over the web.

If you download a lot of media using your browser, you'll want to check out Torch Browser. If the interface feels familiar, that's because it's based on Google Chrome, and keeps all of the functionality of Chrome intact. Users can still sign into Torch Browser to sync information from different instances of Chrome. The Chrome web store is also fully supported so you get all of the great extensions and web applications available for Chrome.

Torch Browser is a truly a media powerhouse. There's an integrated torrent client, download accelerator, and media grabber. The torrent client opens up in a new tab and has a bunch of basic torrent features. If you are more tech savvy and have a complicated torrent set up, this probably won't replace it. But for those who only torrent once in a while, it's nice to have a client built right into the browser. Users will be able to view info, peers, files, trackers, and more with the Torch Browser torrent client.

The download accelerator claims to speed up downloads and it does work. Our downloads completed quickly and at a higher priority. The differences weren't night and day but were still noticeable.

The media grabber is used to download music and video from across the web. While YouTube worked fine, Torch Browser wasn't able to grab media from Vimeo. It's nice that Torch Browser keeps things simple by only downloading web video in Flash format but it'd be nice to see an option in Torch Browser to choose a format, instead of having to convert them afterward.

Torch Browser also integrates Twitter and Facebook with its "Share" button. This makes it easy to blast off a tweet or Facebook update but you won't be able to browse your notifications or posts. It's simply for sharing a though or link quickly.

Overall, Torch Browser is a great browser for users who download lots of media over the web.
