Happy Halloween!

I took my Chanel compact and turned myself into a fox with additional help from an eyeliner and mascara. In the morning I got the idea to be a fox, and that meant no time to go to the shop to get ears, so I made the ears at my desk while making calls at the office. I added cotton to the ripped paper that I put on a head band and voila. Then I took the fox tail that I usually wear hanging off of my bag, clipped it to my back belt loop and that was my office-y Halloween done!

Mind you, this look got mistaken for a raccoon, a squirrel and the last I heard was a reindeer...really?!

I seldom add photos of myself but I'm super proud of this last minute do (even though long time no blog. :^O )

Like clock work, the flowers started to bud this season, and some have come my way. It is as if each tulip and rose was watching the calendar to make ready for May. May flowers come to you soon!

I came across Cate in this dress while browsing through a magazine this weekend and immediately fell in love with it because it's subtle, it's coordinated and still not so coordinated that it is over the top. Wow, she looks great!

What Some Flowers Can Do

For months, I kept thinking of how I wanted to receive flowers. I just like the surprise of finding them when you least expect them. Though I admired flowers everywhere I looked, I never told a soul that I wished for a delivery of them to me. Secretly, I wanted them very much!- But it was not for me to have to get them for myself, as I have done on occasion. Then it happened! Recently I received flowers and I think they had an influence because I found one day as I was looking at them, that I dressed like them. The resemblance was uncanny. You see what some flowers can do to a girl? I love it!

Like my last post, maybe it's the pleats...or perhaps the lace...but I'm so into Alessandro Michele for Gucci because his platform is really out there- for what I am used to seeing at the House of Gucci. Tom Ford was absolutely sultry, Frida Giannini was rather classic and always gave reverence to the brand's history. Now Alessandro is mixing things up but...lace is pretty sultry......and pleats are classic...so in one way or another, he may be giving a nod to his predecessors and maintaining a bit of Gucci history with a fist pump out there to the new school.- IMO

There is something about this A/W2015-2016 look that is so good of Gucci to do, a bit different for them but just right for me :o). It is the youthful, playful, a pinch of sophistication, mild hint of seduction and the in between seasons style that attracts me to this look. I definitely want these shoes. A long skirt, pleated, is a sure staple in my closet. The lace top is what takes this look from shy girl to sexy lady!...or is it the other way around. Whatever the way, I love it.

I caught a glimpse of this image somewhere at some time during the week and it has remained in my mind so I have to blog about it. Then I took the time to look up the entire runway show and loved it. I'm glad to see the belted dress in vogue. This is going to have a positive influence on my style when the weather gets warmer, especially since I keep thinking about it. Though I'm not surprised about floral for spring, I am impressed with midi length dresses and skirts being so prominent. Yay! Those are my favorites. Thank you Michael Kors!

FIT Yves Saint Laurent X Halston Exhibit

I visited the exhibit at the Fashion Institute of Technology on a dismal looking day but when I got inside the Museum, I admit that I felt transported to the 1970s with the Yves Saint Laurent x Halston pieces and the 1980s + with the Fake It displays. Dismal changed to divine, darling, just like that! Perhaps it was the lighting, the disco ball, the printed dresses,...I'm not sure. It is always interesting to see how fashion and styles from an age before are always relevant to what is currently in vogue. If and when you visit the exhibit, you will see what I mean as you look at a marabou furry coat adorning a short Laurent dress or a Halston gingham shirt dress and compare them to what is being offered at the boutiques we know well and love.

I only knew about this exhibit by exploring thesartorialist.com, where author of the sartorially inclined site, Scott, kindly put it out there on the fashion radar that these lovely pieces were on display locally. Admissions to the FIT is FREE and the exhibit is on until April 18, 2015. With just a simple visit, I learned how YSL and Halston could be considered congruent in their debuts to fashion acclaim.

Finding this trend on the men these days: I go to the supermarket, out doing regular shopping, at restaurants, on public transportation and I see so many men are doing this look in particular- fully bearded faces. I find a bit of facial hair on guys to be sexy and according to the length, it can be sophisticated or rather primitive cave man-ish but all still sexy. Nope, not mad at this trend. Just not loving the lack of uniqueness but it really can be a good look. I wonder what the ladies think? Yes? No? Maybe so?

This outfit- it rocks...

You know how it is, you're at work, it's a bit slow, you get tempted into dreams of a new wardrobe, no limits, and images that inspire you find their way onto your screen. That's where this spawned from, the time to think it up and now, it's stuck or, rather, it has stuck and I'm trying to emulate this look on just about every website and not just on Net-A-Porter.

As I'm thinking:

"I would wear this to work just as it is. Then I could switch out the heels for flats and wear it for a weekend outing. The colors are in a retro category, in my view, and the browns in this are some that I could do all day, any day. The big logo bag balances with the solid colors it accompanies. I really fancy the bag first and then the outfit altogether, I love. Maybe I can find an inexpensive version at ASOS, Gap or Zara...or H&M? But there is no substitute for the bag. Must endeavor to get that bag!"

I'm so glad she chose to wear Reebok Classic sneakers aka "54.11s"* as opposed to the obvious, which I'm not entirely averse to, as I rock them myself. Here you have simple, easy and pleasingly on trend. This is just refreshing to see instead of N*ke or NB, etc. which are staples and expected (no offense intended, as that would be dissing myself also). Props and praise to these companies for their constant mention, so much so they are household names. Nonetheless, you see it aplenty, the sneakers that pop - your eyes out with disapproval - especially when the high end caliber name brands tried their hands at it in the recent past seasons. I can see them on blogs, as style icons of front row fashion shows and street style photography wear these bright and not exactly aesthetically pleasing modes of footwear and it looks rather ridiculous and awkward on some people. Sneakers, trainers, whatever you want to call them, can look great and certainly stylish with your various pieces and you don't have to be going to yoga class or to the gym to make it work, right? Plus, for the ladies, it's great to give our feet a rest from the fierce and height rendering heels. It doesn't mean that running around during fashion week in haute couture or top notch designer gear and an unattractive, flamboyant pair of sneakers or...er, even worse, with the very same designer's pair of sneakers, is the best. That said, one has to be fearless in expression and not abide by rules or what the other person thinks. That's fashion, what you make of it and how you enjoy it, yes? No one dictates your style choices so if you're going to throw a fabulous Valentino number and a pair of kicks together, go wild. If you're going to wear your tailored suit with fuzzy slippers, do that! However for me, this outfit on Leila Yavari is more like it. This is how you do it!

*54.11 is a reference, as I know it, to the cost of these Reebok classic sneakers in the early 1980s to late 1990s when they generally cost $49.99 in stores but with sales tax in NY at the time, they came to a total of $54.11.

How I Spent My Weekend

To people who care to hear, I shout New York, New York all the time. Though, I'm not originally from NY, or better still from the US. To my family abroad when I visit, I'm either American or "...from New York" whenever there is a cause for introduction. Still, I do enjoy a visit to the UK, where I feel even more like I'm a USA-er, thanks to such intros and not seeing these quintessential British features on a daily basis (that plus the rain :O).

What I tend to love are unusual pieces, handmade pieces, one time off pieces, but wearable pieces so I am always buying them when I can find them. There will always be room for the Cartier type jewelry but there is something special, for me, about artisan jewelry. Designing and making it yourself?...even more special when you see it in the final stage, I think. Yes, I am completely partial because these are some of mine that are just about to be polished, filed down and finished.

I am all about the culottes because I have (preface: this is no complaint) skinny legs and they add a nice balance to a look. One of the obvious reasons to enjoy wearing culottes is the play on the eyes when you aren't sure if she is wearing a skirt or trousers.
