We’re part of Team Wonder Builders, competing in the Junior FIRST LEGO League challenge.  Things are going well and we’ve made lots of progress as we near the end of our challenge.

This year’s challenge was to select an item around you and learn how it was transported.  If you think about something as simple as a pencil, how did it begin?  What parts go into it?  Where do the raw materials come from?  How are they moved to processing plants?  What machines move and transform them inside the factories?  How are they transported to stores and ultimately to your home?

We chose a pool table.  After some research, we focuses on the three main components of the pool table: slate, wood, and cloth.  We’re learning where these come from and how they are transported and are building LEGO models to demonstrate.

Here is a photo album of the first 6 weeks of meetings.  This week, the team will begin work on building the final models and poster for the presentation.

So, to make sure everyone was in the right frame of mind, we made a trip to the Crabtree LEGO store.  Awesome place.  The first Tuesday of each month they even have a free project for the kids to build.  This month was a pencil and pad of paper.

The evening ended with a surprise dinner at Kanki (and an empty wallet).

I do remember there was much glitter involved. Always glitter. You can’t get rid of that stuff. Ever. Buries itself in the carpet. Nice looking mask though.

Tori’s line is (I think): “On Thursday, in Russia, he ate through four beets.”

Everyone: “But he was still hungry!”

Melissa was able to create this amazing costume. There are two more beets in the back that you can’t see in the picture. That makes four!

How sweet are they!? I arrived home from volunteering at the girls’ school to find these beautiful flowers with a truly thoughtful note.

I’m really lucky to have not just Chris but his wonderful family too.
