Let’s me honest, love em or hate em, Microsoft have dominated the IT industry for the last 3 decades.

Windows on just about every machine, Internet Explorer, Office etc etc.

For a long time people have predicted their demise, the fall of the giant and most people have predicted that it would come at the hand of Mac or Linux of some such.

However, it seems that Microsoft have been so desperate to protect the city gates, that they’ve let the Trojan horse right in.

What will bring the giant to its knees will be the diverse, fragmented Eco system.

10 years ago you had a desktop, and if you were lucky enough or wealthy enough you could buy a laptop that performed as well as your desktop.

Today we have a range of desktop machines, smartphones and tablets too numerous to mention.

Microsoft has failed to be present on each platform, and in some cases such as the iPad they have completely dismissed what could have been one of their greatest opportunities.

They’ll always be second best, or 3rd in the case of Winndows Phone 7.

Even if they bring office to the iPad, it’ll probably be good, even very good, but it’s too little too late.
