Time in Thailand - Rayong

Spending time with my uncle was pretty sick. Got to go sailing with my cousin and his friend(JW). This was my first time doing this. It was a pretty amazing time with them. The first day was chill on the water, but the next morning we were going so fast. We made a normal 40 min boat ride with their little tour boat, and did it less than 10 minutes. Then after that, went to my uncles restaurant and had his famous pizza. It was so so good. His place was a good place to just relax and have fun.

My cousin then took me to bangkok and showed me a little bit of life in Bangkok. It is pretty crazy the high social life of international students. Yet it is almost the same in the states, get wasted and be entertained by all the drunks and oneself. It was a pretty intense sight for me to see, yet very eye awakening. My heart broke when seeing 2 6/7 year old children trying to make money selling roses. These roses were half dead. They longed for attention and looked in every way possible. They were funny yet they had a sense of abuse on their face. My heart cried out in a longing to see them just be children.

As I sat there watching it was like sitting in complete darkness of sin, despair, hate, and destruction. The only light, hope, love and complete peace was in Jesus. I saw Him walk in and sit among the people, as though he was smiling and laughing. I was broken hearted and He was happy. I felt Him saying "they won't know what will hit them."

In that moment I saw a flash of light and the darkness lifted. I felt we needed to leave. I turn around to my cousin and before I said something, he told me we should go. I was like "sick let's go". Got a cab ride with him and a couple of friends and in that time I started chatting with a guy, who was a little tipsy, yet I believe was able to understand. We started to talk about relationships and how I am a big advocate of being a gentleman. There was a lady present and so they were being very disrespectful. I was kidding around but actually in a serious manner about not doing that and treating ladies as princesses. Then with that he started to ask me about my experiences. I told him about my past of 5 younger sisters, and then being married before. Then went in the story of Stephanie and I. It was pretty sweet, then he asked me about how I was able to get over the hurt from my divorce. I told him about Jesus coming to be as a lover and filling every need that was there. Long story short we just chatted about God, his view and my experiences in the bible. I encouraged him to seek it out on his own and God will be there. I believe God wanted to sober his mind so he was able to understand His love for him. His name is Stu so please pray for him. After a night in Bangkok I went to Bangna to see the lovely Stephanie.

Time in Thailand - Phuket/little update with the Oxleys

The time with the Oxley's have been one of the sweetest times here. The Oxley's have had a heart for Thailand for many years and so they came out here knowing God had a plan. It has been evident that He wants them here. They have an amazing story and even though I would love to write about it at this time, I don't want to write for the next two days. I beleive in them and love them so so much. They have touched my heart and what they are doing here.

One of the things that God has provided for them is to sale at a couple markets. They sale brownies and cakes. What's cool is that thai's love American brownie's. Then this is just an amazing way to build relationships with the community. I am amazed how many people know this family, in just 2 years. There ministry is about living life with people.

For two days baked some brownies and cakes. I was able to have fun with some my artisticness. Really really fun. I was also was able to just help an serve them.

The food was amazing $1-2 every meal and because the Oxley's kids spoke Thai awesomely they were even able to get even cheaper. Well here is some pictures, more to come with my time with the Oxley's

Time in Thailand: Day 1-2

Leaving Japan was easy and good. Even though I will miss the culture and experience I was given, I was eager to get to Thailand. For this is where my heart truly grew for excitement and adventure for what was next in Gods plans for me. The plane ride was a total of 9hours, 5ish to China and and 3ish to Thailand.

I was able to sit next to a man that lived in Bangkok, but had to work in China because the flooding wiped out His work. He worked in a Honda factory. He had one child and been marraid to His wife for two years. Sweet man and knew little English. He was very interested in my travels and also my relationship with Stephanie. I wash able in the little but enough understand of our time together and a part. It was very nice to talk to Him about the girl I love. He was able to relate a little because he too would be apart from His wife for months at a time. In sharing it put an ever more longing to see Stephanie and what God is making her into. To show picture and video, was sweet. He was touched of how Stephanie's and I relationship was. He told me Thanks and we parted after the plane landed. Hmmm. I do have missed this girl and excited to see her here. I still have a couple of weeks before we re-unite for the first time for 5 months. Yay

As I got off the plane and saw my uncle it was an awesome sight to see and know some one. I hugged him and we went forth to his house. The drive was unique, very small road and yet do what you want driving. There was some small order but really everyone fought for them selves. After settling in and getting ready for bed, I did some writing and reading. Quitting my mind. I slept for 4 hours, for my uncle had to get going. His home was very nice it was an oasis, for yet another long and vigorous 12hour bus ride to Phuket. As we sat for breakfast, we started watching the news and to my surprise yet knowing, I was stunned of how the world news was so different here than america. I knew that in some ways America News of world events were some what dumbed down, but I was in complete shock of what I watched and saw. Thoughts of "I wouldn't mind living out side America" came to mind. I don't know why it was just a thought. I felt like for the first time this was reality where I was, that there was a blanket that was lefted from my eyes and I can see, maybe not reality but differently that I have before. This was just being out of America for five days.

After my uncle show me around little bit of Bangkok, we set off to a little big mall. Little, meaning that it was in a small area yet big because it was three stories high. This was where I set to find a phone. After a quick good by, to my uncle Jon, I started out on the button floor couldn't find anything just clothes and little things. I finally was able to get a phone on the very top floor and was so relieved, because I can call people now. I called my lovely girlfriend and didn't get an answer. I need her to relay a message to the Oxley's. And really I hadn't chatted with her in quite awhile and I have missed her so so so so much. Well I set out to find a cab, to the bus. It was quite interesting. Chatted with the cab driver which was real nice. Found out his name was Tom and he had two children. He took me around sown of the damaged areas that the flood was. It was a pretty intense scene. I saw loads of fields and homes damaged, yet there was a lot of people working to get everything back to normal. It was good to see and pray. Well got on the bus went on a 12 hour ride. It was quite nice yet did no sleep nice. Met a German guy Andrew who has a girl friend in Bangkok and visits her when ever can raise money. It was good had a chance to talk to him about God, and His sweet touch. He was open to see Him as a lover, as a friend and the best thing ever. It was good got to pray with him. Blessed him and found James and Jordan waiting for me. This was my first 2 days so far very awesome and very good time. More to come, excited to share more I have been seeing so much. :)

Time in Japan- Day 2-4

I woke up refreshed and anticipating the day. I thought I would wake up around 10ish but to my surprise I woke around 7am. My thoughts were sense the plans with hanging out with the tsunami relief group was not happening. I ask God what's up. He was like not much yo. Well not really but it's fun to think that He Might answer like thought. The ideas came to me that I need to be close to the airport because they speak English there and might know better deals when it came to hotels. So I backed tracked my steps and made it back to the airport.

On my way back I started opening my eyes and just saw, listened and just took in. I observing everyone and just the culture around me. The one thing I felt, saw, experience and witnesses was respect. It was so amazing. Every man and women bowed to each other. The exchange of buying a coffee here had more respect and service than any Starbucks superstar employing could bring. This wasn't just an act or front, that is put on with work or putting on first expression. It was ingrained and part of them. No matter age or even race. Though I think there was more empathy for me because of my lost American look. Epesally outside of Tokyo.

Okay awesome and random thing I saw. Escalators, there was an unsettle respect even for that. When going on one if you wanted to just stand, which I believe is what is meant for, you stood on the left to make room for those that wanted to walk up or run up on the right. As the word of Jim Gafagan, "are you drunk buddy, this is the best part of life, going up a hill without moving my legs." Seriously this blown away in just this. I got to a pretty big train sation and to my wondering eyes I ran into Amercains. I was so full of joy, they seemed lost about the trains so, in understanding the struggle with it. I helped, I found out they where students following a teacher around Tokyo. Chatting just a little and let them know why I was there and what my plans where. It was a refreshing experience.

As I made my last couple stop, the Lord showed me something or my assumptions/opinion. That with the underling of respect being the blessing yet such a stronghold as well. There was so much respect, it created a wall. Hundreds of people gathered in a train and really no one looked talked or even smile with each other. There was the lack of joying with one another in public. Not that this is wrong or right or even what needs to change, it's just something I saw. Also interesting that I saw was ever person when reading a book had a cover. I thought its for decoration. Believe me some book covers where beautiful.

It reminds me of the parable of the cup. Even though a beautiful cup my seem harmless then inside most likely be vile. For it all attention is focused on the outside, the insight is forgotten and spoiled.

Again this is what I see and it just might be for me to ponder and take wisdom. Even might be for you that these things are written hmmmm.

Any whoo. I made it to the airport alive and well. I lucky asked a made that knew where I can find a hotel rep. She got me in a hotel in Narita, which is 5hims from airport. I praise the Lord too because they had free Breakfast. Yeeeessss Please. I was so released. . After settling in, there was a yolks, which I believe was a Japanese Denny's. It was good food. They bread here was amazing as well. After this I decided to just chill read a book, then go to bed. It was a very good day.

Day 3-4

In my last 2 I explores the small section of Narita where the temple was gardens and just the beauty of this little town. I was amazed again by the sweetness that everyone gave, it was a real joy to go and meet people at lease just a hello and a bow. I made it a part every morning to walk around the temple praying for the place and the people. It was a privilege that the Lord allowed me to just pray over the place. I found a coffe place that I visited and found to like the coffee.

My first experience of the gardens was amazing. I found a peace and serenity in the place. I was amazed as I walked that even the elderly worked, there was at least an 80 old man cleaning signs it was fun to watch him work. Then the bathrooms were so amazingly clean. It put my work to shame. The craftsmen ship in the statues woodwork and metal work was quite breath taking. During this time I hadn't had any conversations with anyone. It was me and Jesus chatting and truly a blessing to just chill with Him.

Time in Japan Day 1

Day 1 December 17
With a long flight over after 18 hours and staying awake the whole time. The flight was great had a chance to share about the art I do to a student Arki and gave her a print of one of my paintings that I had. I prayed and gave her a Lords blessing. She spoke little english but the Lord was sweet to be there.
After geting off the plane, I fought through tiredness and the fears of being in a new place. Though I have been in this situation before and I take passion in new places and adventures. For this is what it was an adventure. My phone was dead so the first thing I did was find an outlet and charged my phone in hope to find free wifi. Though after a 10min charge I could not find one free wifi in the airport. I figure I had 5 hours to get to my designation which was about 2 hours away in Higashi Kurume, which I had to travel on 4 trains to get there. By Gods grace, I figured out the first train and excitedly walked with eager intent there. I had to rely on a google map I printed out, the Japanese symbols and English translation that it gave me to get to the next train. As I was standing on the train I panicked because I had no idea how long I was suppose to be on this train. I closed my eyes calmed my breathing and asked God for help, then just went for it and asked a family where the next station I was suppose to get off. In there look of confusion, smiles and sympathy, I gave them a paper that had the station and trains I was suppose to get on and off of. Still confusion was on them. They said sorry in English with regret, but yet I was still prasistant. I then asked seeming looked like siblings, two sisters an a brother. I asked them the same set of questions. They happily said with still broken English, yet understanding "yes they know where it is" and they are going two stops before my stop. They said follow them. They said we need to wait one hour. I was relieved.

After short conversations with them learning there names and only remembering the name Amy; well this was her American name. The other two where too hard to remember or guess to spell. There was a lot off people in the train getting off and on the different stations. Pushing shoving and simple apologetic bows.

After we got off I followed them and payed for another ticket to the next train and station. This train was only five minutes away. This was the last stop for them. We parted with bows and thank you's. Then gratitude and blessing them i left. They where so happy to help.

After I left they pointed the direction to go and I went. I was back in discomfort yet knew the promises of God "never leaves me" ha. I went forth and figured out what station and trains . I had 2 more stops on my last stop I changed and got my self a little fresher.

The next challenge was to find this church that was heading to do tsunami relief work. As I was started to look for the papers I printed out. I realized I forgot to get the specific details of where the church was. Sense I had no wifi and there was no internet cafe near by another sense of dread and worry came over me. I close my eyes chatted with God, then remembered the picture of the details of where it was. Unfortunatly it was just five mintue in when they where leaving. No one in this part spoke English or even translated Japanese to our characters. It was also dark around 9:30pm. I rushed to where I thought the church was and by God's grace it was there, yet everything was dark. I looked around knocked on the doors and didn't get any answer. My heart was going a mile a minute and I sat there for a little bit. I saw a Tully Coffee shop and went for that. I bought a $4 cup of coffee, sat and hands shacking . I tried to get on wifi, but no luck. I wanted to cusk at this point. I calmed my nerves then thought I need a hotel. I am so grateful for google translator. Even though it needs wifi, it had a couple of presets. I had it already on Japanese and to God's wonderful awesomeness "where is a hotel" was already translated in Japanes characters. I showed it to the coffee peeps, there eyes where full of excitement, and they through broken english i was able to understand "back one station." They where so excites to help me. It was awesome. I found the hotel and fell asleep. I told myself I figure out what to do in the morning.

Day 2-4 will come soon just wanted to update the first day. It was exciting and want to explain the other days in greater detail.

The Adventure Begins

Today Lord willing I am embarking to Tokyo Japan. I have a standby ticket for 10:55 today. If I make this flight I will arriving in Narita, Japan 3:55pm, Friday. There I will get a ticket to Higashi Kurume, Tokyo and meet up with a team that is helping with tsunami relief. From there will travel 6hours to Ishinomaki City. Here is the Schedule :

5:00 AM - Arrive in Ishinomaki City
5:30 AM - Visit Ishinomaki Port
6:30 AM - Breakfast at Sukiya
7:30 AM - Arrive at Volunteer Center/Work site
8:00 AM - Volunteer Registration (if at Volunteer Center)
9:00-Noon - Volunteer activities
Noon-1:00 PM - Lunch break at Family Restaurant, Obento, etc.
1:00-4:00 PM - Volunteer activities
4:00-5:00 PM - Change clothes and prepare for return
5:00-6:00 PM - Depart for Tokyo
6:00-11:30 PM - Drive to Tokyo with rest stops at PA/SA along the way

This is the massage/what we are doing. I think this will be sweet to do.

As we have been doing for the past few months or so, we will be
working together with the Samaritans Purse, a christian relief
organization and we will be working in Ishinomaki city, Miyagi ken.
Our activities will be centered on repairing the houses and preparing
them for carpenters who will come in after us to do the finishing
carpentry, drywalling, etc.

So this is if I get the flight today I will know in the next few hours. I will let you all know what will be happening. Keep praying that I get on and for protection. Japan will be a faith walk just going on my own with no contacts. This should be real fun and I am looking forward to see what the Lor will do and the people I meet. Praying for miracles and prophetic words. Thanks again for reading this and supporting me.

Set My Heart Free

This painting is my favorite for sure. Well nothing to really explain other than what it says. Set Your Heart Free. This is the greatest gift that I know for me that Jesus has done. The freedom to love, to be loved, to dream, to just be me. I can be plain oh me and I am dearly loved. The best freedom I have found in life is to be fully accepted. The worst thing I have ever experienced has been rejection. I found and know freedom of rejection, is full acceptance. I would love to say money did it, my job, painting, or even my lovely girlfriend. These things are all nice but the truth is Jesus. It was straight out asking Him nothing more just asking Him to accept me. So set you heart free and ask. I promise He comes!!!

Beautifully Fun

This one was fun and just beautiful. Well two things; first I think pregnancy is a really beautiful thing, and throwing paint is really fun. So this was truly a hard one to do. I did the background three times, yet the pregnant women only once, yet had to fix the color many times. What inspired me was when I was serving the tables this morning at City of Refuge, there were 3 women I believe that were pregnant. Here it is the 2nd piece, hope you enjoy. I sure do

"Will You Take My Hand"

Awesome awesome night, it was real fun. I am hoping to put a video together for this. I will post it once I am done with it. Well today I was trying to think what the Lord wanted me to paint, and all I saw was a hand. I felt the Lord saying "will you take My hand." Then I saw basically what I painted. I didn't get a scripture. I have no idea what it might mean, but hey thats what is fun about art, we can all get something out of it. Let me know what you think.

Waaaahoooo Thailand Dec.15th - Jan.9th

Everything is set. December 15th I will be taking a plane to Japan, and stay there for a couple of days. Then head to Thailand on December 20th, where I will hook up with my Uncle in Bangkok and help him out with his business on the beach. After Christmas I will visit a dear family that has been serving Thailand for the past 2 years. My last post explained how much this family means to me. Also on my Blog Roll you can see their website. I will be serving alongside them, really don't have plan, just coming alongside them and see what the Lord does. I know experiencing the culture enough will be a paradigm shift for sure. Again I really believe the Lord wants me to go just to see what He has there. I have no expectation, just to see His heart.

After that, around 30th-31st I might be meeting up with the lovely Stephanie McKinney where she is at, thus one of the main reasons I am going to Thailand. I believe that part of God's plan is pushing each other for adventures and new things. I love the fact that we both long to be this with each other and His church. As our relationship unfolds there is such a desire to experience His adventurous heart. We both love people and seeing them pushed in His plans and purposes. We both have a heart to serve the poor and be in community to better His kingdom in the ways of how Christ lived.

That said, this is about it. I am so thankful for those that already gave to help this out. I know this isn't a missions trip that has a great cause, but I do believe that the Lord is having me go. Really I am just asking dear friends and family to help in prayer and support.

When it comes to the cost of this trip, I really haven't made it a big deal. Though I have asked for your help and I am grateful for those who have already given. I would still ask for help. The Lord's provision is amazing. I was able to get a personal loan in which the interest rate has me only paying $79. I would have waited but this came up, and the flights go up fast. In turn, I still need help to pay this off. I am grateful that the Lord has given me a job and I was able to save and have about half of the loan paid off already, but still asking for help. If you still love to help me out I would be so grateful.

Going to Tokyo so Far

Yeah, some dear friends of mine was able to get me a stand by ticket to Tokyo for $175. This is so awesome, so as of right now I can get to Tokyo. So next is a ticket to Tokyo to Thailand. They run about $400-$600. This is such an amazing blessing. Just wanted to do a quick up date on the progress of the Adventure to Thailand.

Also have been in contact with a lovely family that recently moved to Thailand because God called them out there. I will be with them for a week or so give a take few days. I will be helping them with life stuff and serving the people where they are at. This family has been very sweet to me since I have known them. They gave me a job doing tiling when I was let go by another. They are very quick to love. They have a blog "I am Free" feel free to read it and see how they are changing lives there.

Again any help is enough. I am grateful for that God has given me a Job to save what I do have, I have been so grateful for those that have been helping out. I am willing to give me painting services and even hard labor. I don't do Crossfit for nothing. Ha Well Peace be to you. Prayer is excepted anytime and any where.

Shawn's going to Thailand? Yes Please

Yep your thoughts are right. I want to go to Thailand because Stephanie the most beautiful girl is there. Well that is one of the many/main reason I believe the Lord is leading me there. I remember when I was in grade school, I had to do a report on a country and I excitedly picked Thailand. The reason at the time was that I just met an Uncle Jon, and his family, who lived there. But not just my grade school experience, but I thought it would be wonderful to be out there with my girlfriend enjoying the ministry and culture of Thailand.

So ever since grade school I've always remembered Thailand and have been very fascinated by it. After meeting Jesus and His heart for the lost, Thailand was always a heart breaker for me. I believe at this time the Lord just wants me to see what's out there. To see with His eyes, hear with His ears and to understand with His heart. By God's grace I have several networks there with different people doing different things. In time I will let you know the details but for now I just wanted to let you know the low-down and ask you to pray. I don't have any expectations, I'm just believing I will show up and see what happens. I love new things and adventures. I will possibly hang out with Stephanie on the weekends and more. My uncle lives there, and there is a possibility to work for him. Then there are other connections with other ministries. Really exciting.

One of the reasons I am writing this is because I need help with funds. So far I have $600 that can go to the ticket. I need about $1,700 to go there and back with spending money. So if you would like to help please contact me. I am just asking because it is really expensive and I can't afford it. I have several ideas of how the money might come in, so please look for them.

God's Will

"God's Will"

This was my very first painting that I did in the year 2005. I remember after the Lord asked me to start painting, a friend on mine did a teaching on the 'narrow road verses the wide road' (Matthew 7:13-14). Then he came to me and asked me to do a painting on this passage. When he asked me this question I was eager and nervous. I was so excited and realized that all I had was a couple of spray can's black, white, red and a texture spray. I also had some markers. I didn't have money to get materials and really didn't know where to begin with this whole painting thing.
With the imagination God has given me, I read the passage and thought about the image it portrayed. Fransico came to mind. Fransico is a cartoon that I have drawn since I can remember. This cartoon is in a lot of my journals expressing feelings, frustrations, and thoughts I have had in the past. Maybe I can do a article on him someday. But if you have see some of the paintings I have done, he pops in there from time to time. So, I painted what I saw.
At the time I was going through a huge transition in my life. I lived in a nice suburb and the Lord was asking to move downtown to Sherman Heights. Coming from a nice comfortable job, a nice comfortable church, and a nice comfortable house; to no job, living by faith, in the inner city, and living church everyday rather then just Sunday's. In the suburbs the houses where new and in Sherman Heights they where older and needed a lot of work. So in this transition, the Lord used it to help me understand the 'narrow verses the wide road'. The narrow looked hard and not easy, there is no room for comforts of the world but loads of peace. The road with the concept black and white gave the meaning of life verse destruction.
I really don't understand why I made Fransico sad but I did. Maybe the concept of not giving over our selfishness is ugly and hard. In my own selfishness it gets tough and sometimes seems like I can't do it. Yet I understand it is not impossible to do. This is where I saw the cross and believe what I saw in it. Jesus is the sweetest person ever, He becomes my strength to go through the hard times. He speaks promises of life and His purpose for me all the time, non-stop.

The new adventure of building a website and displaying the art I have done has really been a exciting and hard thing for me. I have been drawing sense I was 4-5ish. I have always played with paint or interesting in drawing things. My mom still has a couple of my stuff when I was a child. She is funny and awesome to keep it. Art for me has been the main venue for me to express my self and really the outlet of my frustrations, hurts, joys, loves and passions.

I have been painting for 6 years now and it has been a blast the "God's Will" was my very first painting. It was funny all I used was a couple of spray cans from Walmart, blue painter tape and markers. I am one that uses what I got and at the time that was all I had. I remember the Lord told me He wanted me to start painting. So in that process I thought I had to go back to school, or get some kind of teaching, but for that it would cost another $50,000 that I really didn't want invest in. The next thought was I need a mentor so I sought out a couple of painters, and what they told me that I needed to paint was not feeling in my spirit. I was so discouraged really bad, I was about to give up this passion of mine when a friend came up, and not knowing what was going on with my conversations with Jesus. He told me that the Lord wanted to teach me what no man and no school want to teach me. That the Lord has given me everything that I needed to paint with and for Him it wasn't about the painting them selves but for the people it was for. I then just went crazy and believed every time I painted knew the Lord was painting with me, showing me all I need to do to get to the next piece. The last few years people have asked about a website, and once again the Lord has provided everything that is needed for me to get this going.

This part has been fun exciting and scary. I have been excited about getting out there, designing/creating the website, learning about how it all works and just the getting them out for those that they are for.I whole heartily believe this isn't about money or making a profit, but you. Those who read this, see these pieces and everyone that the Lord has healing and breakthrough to go through in there life. That is why PiercingArt is what it is called.
