FINDING

2011-09-19T15:45:00.000-07:00

Thrifting for the perfect item is like searching for the one perfect mate. While dating you except the fact that 40% of the people you date never stood a chance from the very beginning, The other 40% you date will be a complete waste of your time, 19% will come very close but not quite work out in the end. But you keep dating for that rare 1% that will compliment you in every way possible and bring you absolute joy. That's exactly the same when it comes to thrifting! Majority of the things you pick up will be complete and utter garbage. But you keep searching through all that polyester and pleather until you find that one Vintage Nieman Marcus Royal Blue 100% silk blazer or a pair of Micheal Kors pumps from this seasons collection. And just like love it comes when you least expect it and you become overwhelmed with an euphoric glee unlike anything you have ever experienced.
The true test is once you leave the store and take it for a test drive. And someone stops you to tell you "that blazer is amazing". Its equivalent to taking your perfect mate to meet your friends for the first time and they all re-affirm what you already know. That you made the right choice and it was so worth all the hassle.

FASHION & FUNK

I found these pics while gazing at www.stylebubble.typepad.com (i love that blog) and in my head it epitomized Random&Chic!

I thought that fashion was the one thing I was truly passionate about. I regularly describe fashion as something I live sleep, eat and breathe. I always find myself saying I am going to make it in Fashion. I would often say if I never make it in fashion I would just be settling for second best in life. Placing "fashion" on this huge pedal stool. When in all actuality Fashion is just merely a noun defined as a popular trend. I have turned my thought process around and I have realized It's not fashion that consumes me with overwhelming joy. That drives me and pushes me to be a better stylist and a better business woman. It's not the reason I get up every morning and select clothes that reflect my perception of style. I mean quite frankly "fashion" is a term that has been used and abused (along with fabulous and fierce). I have come to the conclusion and understanding that the heart of my drive is simply the freedom to be creatively expressive.

TIME FOR CHANGE

2011-08-28T00:03:00.000-07:00

On August 23, 2011 i turned the big 26! I spent that evening with my closest friends and family. My mother had a lavish salad spread with every topping one can imagine and my friends brought enough wine to have my buzzed until 27. It was beyond beautiful and I feel honored to have such amazing energy surrounding me.

This year is going to be much different then ever before because I have pledge to give up shopping and fast food for an entire year. In efforts to save money and focus on my future (randomandchic.blogspot.com) I am giving up the things that dent my wallet the most. So, hopefully I don't relapse and begin responsible living for the betterment of me.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!

“I don’t care what people think…I learned a long time ago…I was 19 and had a very traumatic experience….and I learned that I have to go to bed with myself at night and that I have to please myself…and as long as I don’t go out of my way to offend anybody that I love, upset my mother or my husband…I’ll do my own thing. And if the public doesn’t like it, it’s their problem, not mine." -Iris Apfel-

I SEE MYSELF IN HER WORDS

2011-03-22T15:27:00.000-07:00

“I do have a dominant shopping gene but, unlike a reasonable person, I never plan for what I need each season. I enjoy the thrill of the hunt, the discovery and the endless search. In another creation I was, perhaps, a hunter/gatherer. After all these years, I’ve learned that it’s not the end result or finished product but the process I most enjoy. If my experimenting, searching and juxtaposing turns into an exciting outfit well, it’s just a big fat bonus!” -Iris Apel-

“I think dressing up or down should be a creative experience. Exciting. Fun. Whenever possible, it’s really great to start with a marvelously cut designer piece and build on it. For me the key to personal style lies in accessories. My friends tell me that my oversized glasses and my pairs of bracelets have become my unwritten signature. I have amassed an enormous “collection” of bags, belts, bangles and beads without which I would be lost. One can change the entire look of an outfit by substituting one accessory for another. I love objects from different worlds, different eras, combined my way. Never uptight, achieving – hopefully – a kind of throwaway chic.” -Iris Apel-

"I just mix and put things together the way the spirit moves me." -Iris Apfel-

“I’m a hopeless romantic. I buy things because I fall in love with them. I never buy anything just because it’s valuable. My husband used to say I look at a piece of fabric and listen to the threads. It tells me a story. It sings me a song. I have to get a physical reaction when I buy something. A coup de foudre – a bolt of lightning. It’s fun to get knocked out that way!" -Iris Apel-

"Style is integral. Its something thats you" -Iris Apfel-

THE PRINT REVOULTION (according to style.com)

2011-03-22T15:16:00.000-07:00

There is nothing i love more then colors and prints....mix and matching of patterns gives me the kind of high that should be illegal. Prints seperate the boys from the men and shows who really has the balls to stand out of the crowd.

ALICE+OLIVIA spring 2011 RTW collection was so amazing and so refreshingly spunky! And let me just say that there was not a piece on this collection that i would not wear (if i could afford it) But after looking at this enter collection and the mixing of all the prints and patterns. It immediatly put me in wierd space of when Sex and the City was on the air (not the ones constantly on repeat) and i would anxiously await not only the drama and the Samantha but what Carrie was going to be rocking that week. And how innovative and different her style was. Its like it made sense but didnt all at once. But oddly enough this collection also placed me in another space in a little place called the ocean. When i thought about the glory days of Carrie Bradshaw and how she would mixed and matched her colors, patterns and materials. I realized that fish are the real trend setters and they have been uniquely and fabulously styled since B.C. (before chanel....OH!....and before christ).
