Introducing: A Designed Recession!

Well... since this is a new blog I suppose I should explain a little about what you will find here at "A Designed Recession". As we enter 2009 our country is STILL in a recession, if you are not familiar with the word "recession" then where the hell have you been and... can I stay with you a while?

Up until September of 2008 I was gainfully employed as a fledgling young designer at a high-end interior architecture firm until just after my 90 evaluation had passed and the word came that I was LAID OFF! It couldn't be true! Not me!?! But... it WAS true and just after I had taken a chance and left my previous employer of over 3 years for better opportunity and better pay. Over night I went from making a very decent yearly salary to unemployment dollars. So here I am, laid off like so SO many people that I know. In times like these construction is pretty much at a stand still and young cad monkeys like myself are the first to be tossed over ship to lighten the load. With fewer and fewer architectural design opportunities to be found each day I have found myself turning more and more to my web and graphic design skills, which up until now have just been a means to an end and NOT helping me pay ends meat... This is where my blog comes in; A Designed Recession is the chronicling of my struggles, sometimes comical and sometimes tragic, to find work and develop myself as a freelance designer in the Obamaconomy all while trying to stay afloat in this Designed Recession...
