I chose to build my ePub book in Pages, which has an ePub export option. Apple provides a template document called ePub Best Practices. You can find it on the Apple support page, Creating ePub Files with Pages.

Format and distribution choices for this book were very important early decisions. Among the most important resources I used to learn about the self-publishing methods and options was Guy Kawasaki’s book, APE: Author, Publisher, Entrepreneur.
