Why I haven't been posting...

Accidentally had a door slam on my hand at work a couple months ago. The bad nail is growing out and a new one is trying to come it. It's all just very gross. So I have a wiggly damaged nail waiting to grow out and fall off. Until that moment comes, I can't really do much with it but put a band-aid over it to hide the ugly.

I guess I can try to use my left hand to paint on my right... I'm just not very ambidextrous.

Half Moon

Another simple look for your nails.

You will need:

Le Chat Ultra Bond BaseCoat
Color Club Smoke and Mirrors
Essie in Turquoise & Caicos
Le Chat Fast Dry TopCoat

1. Paint a base coat and then a silver polish. Even though you won't see most of the silver in the end, keep it even or else, the next coat will look uneven.

2. Start with your first stroke in the middle of the nail but leave a small gap between the cuticle and where you start. Use your cuticle as a guide to where you should place your brush. I have a little bit of a more square shaped cuticle so I'll have to round off my painting.

3. You should get something like this. It's not even yet because it's your first coat. Once it's settled a little, go over with the 2nd coat.

4. Now you should have this. Go over it with a top coat.

Let it snow... please?

I was hoping for a white Christmas here but it was just a wet one =(
As long as I spend the holidays with good company, I don't really mind.

You will need:

Le Chat Ultra Bond BaseCoat
Claire's Pearly/Shimmery pale blue polish (no name)
Wet n' Wild in French White Creme
Le Chat Ultra Fast Dry TopCoat
Small Paintbrush

1. Paint a shimmery/pearly pale blue base.

2. With a small paint brush, paint the first line for the snowflake.

3. You're basically going to make an asterisk (*). One cross should me bigger than the other.

4. Now Start with one of the longer arms and make 2 dashes coming out of it. Continue all around.

5. Now continue making dashes on the smaller arms.

6. Make small X's and dots around the big snowflake. Seal with a top coat.

Baby Sparks

I really couldn't think of a name for this one. But it's pretty anyway =)

You will need:

Le Chat Ultra Bond BaseCoat
Revlon in Peach Petal
Wet n' Wild in French White Creme
Sparkly/glittery polish
Gem
Dotting tool/toothpick
Le Chat Ultra Fast Dry TopCoat

Forgot to put French White Creme in the picture =(

1. Baby pink to start.

2. Paint half of the nail with glittery polish. Neatness is not necessary =)

3. While the glitter polish is still wet, apply gems with a toothpick on 1/3 of the nail randomly.

4. Dot around the gems with a white polish and a dotting tool. Top coat to finish.

Another holiday theme!!

You will need:

Le Chat Ultra Bond BaseCoat
NYC in Plush Platinum
Joe in Jade
Some red gems or beads
Toothpick
Le Chat Ultra Fast Dry TopCoat

1. Start with a pearly base colour. I had to use about 3 coats of Plush Platinum.

2. Dab on the side with a green polish. You don't have to be neat. Make sure you get some jagged looking edges.

3. While the green is still wet, use a toothpick to pick up your gems/beads and place them on. Again, you don't have to be neat. Top coat over it all to seal it.

4. To make a tree, you do the same as before but make a triangular shape as opposed to dabbing on the side. I added a yellow gem at the top of the tree. It would look better with a star gem.

Deck the halls with bells of holly! Fa la la la la la la la....

Peppermint Swirl

Peppermint candies remind me of the holiday season. I especially love it when a peppermint candy cane is in my hot chocolate.

Here's another simple tutorial (if you have a steady hand).

You will need:

Le Chat Ultra Bond BaseCoat
Wet n' Wild French White Creme
OPI Bullish on OPI
Glittery polish (optional)
Le Chat Ultra Fast Dry TopCoat
Paintbrush
Contact lens case

It's gonna get sweet =)

1. Paint your base coat and then white all over the nail. I painted 2 coats here.

2. Paint a curved line from the center to the side. Then from the same point in the center, draw another curved line but ending it at a different point next the the first line.

3. Colour it in! You should have something like this.

4. Continue on with the rest of the nail. Start from the same point every time.

5. It should end up looking something like this. I did 4 little curved triangles. You can do as many as you'd like, but I stuck with 4 because it was easier to divide evenly. You can add a wash of glitter or just top coat the whole thing.

As you can see, I also did some stripes instead of making all my nails peppermint swirls.

Ice Tips

Sorry!! It would take forever to explain why I've been away for so long.
Simply, I've been busy.

Here's a quick tutorial on this simple yet flashy look for this cold weather.

You will need:

Le Chat Ultra Bond BaseCoat
Essie in Cocktail Bling
Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat in Fractured Foil
Silver glitter polish
Le Chat Ultra Fast Dry TopCoat

Let's get started!

1. Paint your base coat and then Cocktail Bling. The best way I can describe this colour is that it's a pale greyish blue.

2. Thinly apply Fractured Foil to about half of the nail. Don't worry about it being evenly divided.

3. Paint some glitter over the whole nail but concentrating on the silver tips. Add a top coat.

I have a week off work so hopefully I can squeeze in some more tutorials before I get back to work.

Sorry! I've taken pictures of some tutorials but I haven't had the time to edit and put them up. It's just been a very busy couple of weeks; which I love and hate at the same time. Anyway, here's a survey I found and thought I can quickly whip through this for the time being. Thanks for your patience!!

How many polishes do you have in your stash?
Maybe about 100?? I don't really know. I try not to count so I don't feel bad =P

Which brand do you own the most of?
I have a good mix. Perhaps Sally Hansen?

What colors do you own the most of?
Various pinks

Do you have a color/texture you do not own?
I don't have that new magnetic polish. It's interesting but I don't know if I like it yet.

What's the one polish you always pick up to lift your spirits?
China Glaze's For Audrey. Something about that colour.

What polish do you keep looking at and wondering why you haven't gotten rid of it yet?
All the ones that have dried out and cannot be salvaged. They're usually the discontinued colours =(

Franken any? or I'm nervous to try it?
I've never franken (mixed) my polishes. I'm not nervous to try it, I just don't want to mix and make something horrible that has to be thrown away. =P

Do you franken for new/original polish ideas or franken for polish you won't be able to own?
I'd probably do the first. I find that it's very hard to make a duplicate of anything.

Go-to Base Coat?
I used to have a Seche Vite base coat but it has disappeared. It wasn't bad.

Go-to Top Coat?
Seche Vite (although, it does yellow with the hospital alcohol rubs at work).

What's your sexiest polish?
Lol, weird. I actually think a french manicure with black tips are pretty hot.

I'm sure stamping is easier but I like spending the time to do things free hand.

Well, I don't wear polish longer than 3 days because of my job. So it doesn't really matter.

Hmm... I'd love to try some good nail treatments actually. All the hand washing I do doesn't keep my hands and nails conditioned.

I really like some of the polishes by Chanel, but I just can't justify spending over $10 for polish.

Something Blue

I wanted something girly. Here it is!

You will need:

Joe in Powder Blue
Jordana in Black
Seche Vite Top Coat
Dotting tool
Gems

1. Start with a pale blue base colour (or any other colour you'd like).

2. Dot the nail with small black dots. Try and make them even and aligned.

3. Make a bow at the bottom of the nail. I kept to the dotting tool with this one.

4. With the same base colour, dot over the bow.

5. Add a clear gem to the middle of the dot. Continue with this theme for your other nails. Don't forget to top coat to seal it in!

Dot Gradient

Very simple and very wearable. Enough said!

You will need:

Revlon in Peach Petal
Joe in Orchid
Wet n Wild Mega Last in Soul Mate
Joe in Faded Violet
Rimmel Nail Tip Whitener
Top coat of your choice
Dotting tool

When I picked the colours for dotting, I decided on purple dots and then selected 3 shades of purple.

1. Start off with a base colour.

2. Start with the darkest shade. Dot in a straight line across the nail.

3. Continue dotting a row. Each row should get lighter than the last. I finished my rows with white dots. Don't forget to top coat!

There you go! I think I will be sporting this one often.

Galaxy in my Hands

Been seeing this look on Tumblr and wanted to try it out. I love this but I would have to sport this in the fall/winter months.

You will need:

Jordana in Black
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Blue Me Away!
Jordana in Lemon Tropic
Wet n Wild Mega Last in Soul Mate
Wet n Wild Wild Shine in Sapphire Blue
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Strobe Light
Seche Vite Top Coat
Makeup sponge (or any dense sponge)

1. Black base! You can probably use another colour for a base but black looks best.

2. Put a drop of blue (Blue Me Away) on a piece of paper. Dab the corner of your sponge in it and then dab off any excess on the paper.

3. Carefully dab/sponge on the blue. Do it in a messy pattern. It doesn't matter if you're clean or not.

4. Using the same sponge, dip it in pale pearly green (Lemon Tropic). I dabbed on the edges of the blue.

5. Next is a pearly purple (Soul Mate). I dabbed this one over randomly to create some depth.

6. I used a pearly dark blue (Sapphire Blue) to balance it all out.

7. Finally, I topped it off with some glittery polish (Strobe Light). Remember to top coat to seal it on in =)

Now you have the galaxy in your hands. This is actually a fairly simple design to do.

Some tips:
You should wait for the black to dry before proceeding with sponging. Also, I used the same sponge for all the colours. I'm not sure if that makes a difference but the colours seem to blend better. And finally, you can also create larger stars by using a dotting tool and white polish. Just dot on a few random large stars.

It's a tough one to remove from your nails but at least it looks good while it's on =P

Bridal Bling

I was inspired by my friend Marianne to do these nails. A simple white tip manicure with some sparkle and bling.
I'm so happy for you Marianne and can't wait for your wedding in September! Love you!!

You will need:

Color Club in Alabaster
Kiss Nail Art Paint in Silver
Jordana in Crystal Glitter
Seche Vite Top Coat
Manicure tape
Clear nail gems
Glitter

1. Using the manicure tape, tape off the length of white you would like to have for your french tip. Paint over it, and remove.

2. Then with a thin paintbrush, paint a silver glittery line where the white ends. You can top coat the whole nail and leave it if you prefer to not have glitter in the next steps.

3. Paint over just the white tip with a glittery nail polish. While it's still wet, dip the tip of the nail in some glitter. Blow and tap off the excess.

4. Put a dot of clear polish on the side of the white tip. Then put a clear gem on it. Top coat the whole nail twice to smooth out the glitter and secure the gem.

A simple french tip with a little bling. Hope you liked it.

Bumble Bees

Buzz Buzz...

You will need:

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Mellow Yellow
Jordana in Black
Rimmel Nail Tip Whitener
Seche Vite Top Coat
Dotting tool

1. Paint your nails in a yellow base.

2. Cut thin strips of tape and tape them over the nail. Make sure the tip of your nails is left wider than the others.

3. Paint over in black. What ever is not taped will be black.

4. Peel off the tape carefully and you should get something like this.

5. Dot 2 white eyes with a dotting tool. Top coat it all.

My favourite colour is yellow =) This is a super cute and super simple design to do.

You will need:

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Mint Sorbet
Revlon Nail Enamel in Chocolate Truffle
Sally Hansen Hard as Nails in Tea Rose
Jordana in Island Fuchsia
Seche Vite Top Coat

1. Can you tell I love this colour? Paint your base!

2. Using the brush from the bottle, paint branches on to the nails. You don't have to be clean.

3. Dot on light pink flower pedals.

4. Finally dot on a darker pink in the center of the larger pedals. Don't forget to top coat!

It's really easy to do. I added pedals on the other nails to make it look like the blossoms are blowing on to those nails. Close enough?

It's been weeks! I haven't had time to do any nail art. But I took pictures of 2 looks I've been sporting during this time of chaos.

My favourite spring colour! I bought this in Portland recently. It's called Tarte Deco.

Yup, got my hands on some OPI Shatter in black. I had Sally Hansen's Xtreme Wear in Mint Sorbet under it. Looks like mint chocolate chip ice cream =)

Hopefully I'll have more time to get back on track soon.

Tickle Me Elmo

You must have grown up watching at least 1 episode of sesame street. My favourite was Elmo and Big Bird. I thought I'd go with Elmo this time. I wanted to wear red =)

You will need:

Wet n Wild Wild Shine in Red Red
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in White on
Jordana in Black
Joe in Crush
Seche Vite Top Coat (Finally got another bottle)

1. Paint a semi circle on the tip of your thumb.

2. Dot on 2 white dots for the eyes. Keep them close together.

3. Paint on the smile with black. Don't forget to dot his eyes!

4. Of course, finish with the orange nose and a top coat.

Hope you like this one. I haven't had much time to do my nails lately. When I do have time, I can't make them too over the top. Anyway, I'll try to keep doing at least 1 design a week. Hope everyone is having a wonderful start to summer!!

Cheetah Cheetah

I'm not usually a fan of animal prints but lately, I feel like it's growing on me. I've done a full set of cheetah nails before on myself and on my friends. I think this print looks best on nails. Zebra is nice but I felt that was too easy to do a tutorial on =P

You will need:

Joe Fresh in Caramel
Revlon in Chocolate Truffle
Jordana in Black
Rimmel Top Coat
Thin paintbrush

Meow!

1. Paint your nails a creamy caramel base. I just got Joe Fresh in Caramel recently and LOVE it! It's a nice neutral polish to wear to work.

2. Dot varying sized spots randomly in a brown polish with the polish brush.

3. With a thin paintbrush and black, paint around the brown dots. You don't have to be neat. You also don't have to connect the black lines into a full circle.

3. Add some filler dots, shapes and lines around. Rawr!

I love this combo for cheetah nails! I only painted my ring finger since I still have work tomorrow. I've read up on the rules and I'm allowed to wear polish as long as it's not chipped. But even so, I like to keep it a little bit subtle.

Hoot Goes the Owl

Owl nails! I got inspired by a photo album/scrapbook my boyfriend and I are putting together. There are owls everywhere! They don't really have a significance to us but they're gosh darn cute =)

You will Need:

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Mint Sorbet
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in White On
Revlon in Chocolate Truffle
Jordana in Black
Top coat of your choice
Thin painbrush/dotting tool

Hoot hoot!

1. Paint on a colour for the body of your owl. I chose Mint Sorbet.

2. Make two larger white dots close to each other. These will be the eyes.

3. Outline the white in black with a thin paintbrush.

4. I dotted the eyes in Chocolate Truffle.

5. Upside down triangle in between the eyes for the beak. I also used Chocolate Truffle.

6. Using the same colour again, give the owl a feathery belly.

I actually find real owls very scary; especially when they turn their heads completely around! Anyway, I thought this was easy to do and cute. Hope you have fun with it =)

Hot Pink Lightening

This one kind of reminds me of Pink Ranger. It's a simple design using tape again.

I've been so busy lately, I haven't had the time to do much with nails. But here's a quick and easy one until I find time to do some more.

You will need:

NYC Greenwich Village
Color Club Smoke and Mirrors (matte)
Tape & Scissors

1. I started with a metallic silver base.

2. Cut out triangular shaped pieces of tape. When the polish is dry, tape off the tip of your nail in a way that looks like a lightening bolt. I did it on a diagonal. (Again, stick the tape on your arm before you tape it to your polish to prevent it from pulling off the polish.)

3. Paint over with a bright hot pink (or any colour you'd like). The tape will give you a clean line underneath.

4. Peel off the tape and you'll find a surprise =)

I like wearing this look with black usually (instead of the hot pink). I felt like I should wear a bright colour so I chose hot pink. I'm going to bed. Got a race tomorrow ;)

Electric tape

Use tape to get easy clean lines. You can make many different looks with tape and this is just one of them. You have to make sure your base polish is completely dry before you put tape over it. The other tip is to also stick the tape on your skin first so the oils on your skin make the tape less sticky but sticky enough to stay on the nail. Otherwise, you'll pull the polish off with the tape.

You will need:

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Blue Me Away!
Color Club Smoke and Mirrors
Tape and Scissors

1. Paint a metallic base. I'm loving Smoke and Mirrors from Color Club. It's a matte polish and very metalic.

2. Cut thin strips of tape. Arrange the tape any way you'd like. I make an "H" shape.

3. Paint over the whole thing with another colour and take the tape off.

That was easy! There's lots you can do with tape. I'll show some other tape designs soon.

My boyfriend likes Keroppi. 'Nuff said. You're gonna need a really steady hand and a lot of time.

You will need:

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear White On
Jordana Lemon Tropic
Jordana Black
Jordana Island Fuchsia
Jordana Electric Blue
Wet N Wild Red Red
Rimmel Cafe Au Lait
Rimmel Top Coat
Thin paintbrush (couldn't find mine so I did the details with a dotting tool)

That's a lot of polish!

1. White base. Nice and simple. I didn't realize how streaky I had the base =S

2. Paint on green horizontal and vertical lines to make a checkered pattern. This will be the pattern for all the nails.

3. Let's paint Keroppi's head. Paint a dome shape on the tip with green.

4. Make 3 white circles overlapping the green dome.

5. Outline Keroppi's head with black. I outline after painting the inner colour because I find it easier. Don't forget to give him rosey cheeks!

6. Not sure what this guy is called. It looks like a ghost... or a tissue. Anyway, you start off with the white shape. Then the red bow. And finish off by outlining/drawing in black.

7. Keroppi has a snail friend? Start off with the snail body and head, then the blue shell, then the white eyes, and finally outline/draw in black.

8. Football shaped head, white eye balls and white body. Red stripes for his shirt. Outline it all in black.

9. Oh look! A red swirl for a sun.

I think this took me way too long to do because I didn't have my thin paintbrush. I did it all with a dotting tool. Make sure you wait for the polish to dry (or close to it) before you outline with black. The lines will be cleaner. I used pictures on google as reference.

Sprinkled Pink

Pink sparkly tips! Sparkles are very forgiving when it comes to accuracy. That's why I love using sparkles because they're easy to use for a design. The only part that is a drag is getting rid of it after. But it sure looks great while it's on =) This design almost looks like a pink gradient tip.

You will need:

Jordana Island Fuchsia
Sinful Colors Pinky Glitter
Rimmel Clear
Rimmel Top Coat

1. Paint a pink tip. You don't have to be super neat because the glitter should hide any mistakes.

2. Paint starting just past the tip with glitter.

3. Now go over the glitter with another coat. Again, start a little past what you just painted.

4. This step is optional. While the glitter polish is still wet, add some sparkling decorations. I added 2 glitter hearts to the side. If you're finding it hard for the glitter to stick, paint a fresh clear coat for the decals to stick on.

5. Go over everything with a top coat to blend it all together.

If you pick a glitter polish that is of the same tint as the tip colour, it will look better. It's my first time wearing Sinful Colors glitters on my natural nails. I haven't had much luck finding a glitter polish that doesn't chip the next day. We'll see what this looks like tomorrow.

Turquoise Night

One of my younger cousins is graduating from high school very soon. Congrats girl! Her dress is gorgeous and I was inspired to do something similar to the colours in her dress. I hope she doesn't mind. It's actually a really easy effect to do.

You will need:

China Glaze For Audrey
Wet n Wild Sapphire
Sinful Colors Hottie
Rimmel Top Coat
Makeup sponge

1. Paint a turquoise base.

2. Dab on some dark blue on a makeup sponge. The better quality the sponge, the less clumps you will get. Don't put on too much or you won't be able to create a good gradient effect.

3. Dab the sponge on the nail starting from the tip. You want the tip to the be the darkest and then fading towards the cuticle.

4. You should have something like this by the end of it. Don't worry about being messy.

5. Messiness is no problem because a glitter polish over the whole thing will pull it together. I'm using Sinful Colors in Hottie. It's sort of a dupe for OPI's Katy Perry Collection in Last Friday Night.

6. Add a top coat to blend it all together.

I love the colours! I often do the sponging effect over naked nails instead because I find it's a little more tamed. But hey, it's grad and you wanna stand out! ^^
