Happy start of February!

Do you feel the love in the air? I do! I do! Do allow me to share a bit of product lovin' for my locks!

I find it hard to rave about hair care since my hair is not "normal". I am usually partial to an expensive brand and could hardly try affordable ones for fear that it won't give my hair the care it needs. With several coloring, rebonding and styling, who can blame me right? It's not like I was born with a perfect hair.

Right now, even with a care of hi-end hair care brands, my hair has reached it's limit and is in bad need of hair cut and retouch. Since I started working, I have yet to settle into schedule that will afford me some time to visit my favorite salon for a much needed trim and coloring retouch. I simply just can't find time!

So, I rely on these two products at the moment to keep my hair looking healthy and shiny.

TIGI BedHead is a popular hi-end hair care brand known for its hip and cool product names and packaging. When they came out with a set of shampoo and conditioner aim to tackle dry and damaged hair, I instantly fell in line to try it.

What you'll notice is the strong sweet smell that settles nicely when your hair is dry. Think fruity, like those fruitella chewy candies! I notice that after using an entire tube of shampoo and conditioner that my hair feels softer and smoother.

I have been using this for more than a month and I love the effects! My hair is usually dry and lacking in lustre but this has kept it manageable and does provide that moisture hit.

TIGI Bedhead Shampoo and Conditioner for nearly Php1900 a tube. Quite expensive but for serious hair coloring and rebonding addict like me, you might want to consider this as your primary hair care products.

Dove Nutritive Therapy | Nourishing Oil Care

Call it falling for advertising but after checking out the website of Dove. I immediately went and got myself the Dove Nutritive Therapy, the Nourishing Oil Care. And boy was I floored! I fell instantly in love with the clean scent of it! It smells a bit rich but it settles nicely and last all day on my thick long mane.

Best of all, it is indeed nourishing. My hair is manageable. It's so easy to comb out my hair even when its wet! Although my roots still look dull and dry, the rest of my hair looks fabulous!

It is like I used a Dove Body Bar on my hair! It nearly has the same effect.

As long as my hair doesn't reach its plateau with the Dove Nourishing Oil Care, I will keep on buying this! I think this is less than Php200 for the shampoos and Php250 for the conditioner. Can't remember since my dad paid for this. Hehehe!

But of course, we still need to get a hair cut once in awhile. As for me, I know I badly need one already. I can't wait for the weekend as I think that's the only day I can find time to finally get my hair trimmed, layered and colored... Sigh. I can't wait for the weekend!

I admit, I still pop my pimples and pick on my whiteheads and blackheads when no one is looking. It's a bad habit and a major no-no. But here I am baring my heart out to you.

When I received a heads up on the new website/blog of Dove Philippines, I wandered on to a page that tackled my worst enemies, Comedones! Yup, comedones are those icky disgusting blackheads and whiteheads that clog up my pores.

As a beauty blogger who is always reading beauty articles and beauty blogs, I can confidently say that I know my way around comedones... especially that I have too many! Ewww!!

Black or White: What's the Difference

What I like about the article is that it tells you how to spot the difference between whiteheads from blackheads, how it came to be, how to treat it and prevent it. It's very concise and it has a lot of helpful tips and tricks. It's not your usual beauty blog like yours truly but it does give a lot of beauty knowledge. I love that it is also not so hardsell on their products.

So, taking on the tips I read on the Dove Real Beauty Basics, I am trying my darnest best not to get rid of my blackies and whities on my own. Oh! What a challenge! Le sigh...

Big Sister Talk: How To Love Without The Drama

While I was driving, a John Mayer song came on the radio and i was transported to the days that I was utterly emo crazy and what I could admit now, "In Love with Love". I remember those days I always thought that being in a relationship was the same things as those that I read from my romance novels. Boy, those were the days!

Let me tell you, there was a time I was more addicted to to being swept off my feet and always being in a dramatic relationship that I was in makeup!

Relationship is a big compromise. It's not all about a Cinderalla story where in one had to take the punches before you get the happily ever after. Sometimes, it doesn't even have to so hard. It doesn't have to be all drama.

Many can attest that I did kiss a lot of boys. Not that i regretted them (although I did on some), I realized that I had to change a few (ha!) things about me so that I can really make a relationship work. It's not about flowers and candies, dates and vacays, hugs and kisses that build a lasting relationship. Sometimes, it's those little things you think is unimportant that makes all the difference.

I didn't realize loving was easy and being with someone doesn't have to be so much of an effort after i changed a few things on how I react when I'm in a relationship.

1) Respect His Privacy

You don't need to know what else is hidden underneath his underwear drawer. Don't even think of touching his phone (Yes, even if he's okay with it). Respecting boundaries is important. This implies unwavering and unquestionable trust you have for each other.

2) No to too much texting

SMS'ing "Good Morning!" and "Enjoy your lunch." and those spontaneous "I love you's" are sweet. but downright texting him all the time can be annoying (Yes, even if he says it's okay!). And same goes for not to always asking where he is or tracking him!

What you can do instead: Go old school and write him a nice love letter every week. It's not intrusive in his school or work time and you can even turn this into a tradition.

3) Respect the Boys

Our guys have friends like we do. But that doesn't mean we like them. There will be some a-holes here and there. Hard as this may be, you need to take these jerks along with your guy. As long they are not crossing any line, a smile wouldn't hurt. Your guy will appreciate the tolerance. And he'll do the same for you.

4) Don't just say "Fine!"

Hard as this may be to accept, guys can't read our minds. Even when you think that the stars and the moon aligned just for the two of you and even if you feel that your heart is beating as one. No, he can't tell what you're thinking. Let's get over this and move on. Guys, seriously are very practical. He's not that guy in 500 Days of Summer. And believe me, you wouldn't want a sappy guy like that. So, just tell him your thoughts (with a bit of femininity still) and stop him from second-guessing you.

There is nothing wrong with suggesting what restaurant to go to next or telling him exactly what you want for your birthday. It's actually helpful!

5) Flatter him.

Guys and girls may be poles apart but when it comes to flattery, we are nearly cut from the same cloth. Does he work out? Notice his biceps and give it a compliment. Why not even give it a squeeze? If he good at his job, ask him how work was. Does he enjoy driving and loves to take you out? Then avoid giving him directions and just enjoy the ride. Recognize his strengths and compliment them. Like us, guys also want to know they are appreciated.

6) Give him A for Effort when it merits.

Sometimes, a guy will go out of his way to read your thoughts but fail miserably. Give him A for effort and appreciate that tacky neon green shoes he got in the wrong size. You can slowly and discreetly show him things you like in the future but not when he's too much caught in the emotion of giving you something that he was really proud of.

7) Don't let your world revolve around him and your relationship

Hard as this may be when you feel all the emotions running through you, it is important that you don't think that you are joined in the hips. Don't neglect your girl friends. Still find time for them. Don't consider work or school as something that keeps you two apart. You still have goals to conquer on your own that doesn't necessarily involves him being around constantly.

I notice that guys are attracted to independent women. Believe me, if he wants the attention... he'll tell you. Find time to pursue other things that don't concern him. it could blogging, going to the gym or a pole-dancing class. Only a handful of guys like girls who clamors after them. Most of them, want someone who is as driven as they are.

8) Know when to shut-up.

Guys can't read our mind, yes. But that doesn't mean you have to rattle on everything. Specially when fighting, know how to choose your battles. You don't always have to pursue a fight with your guy. If he's late in picking you up or forgot your anniversarry, that doesn't always have to imply an argument. Sometimes, silence is the good solution.

9) Don't go running to your girl friends whenever you two have a fight.

This is a no-no in my book. As long as you two have yet to resolve your disagreement, don't run to your friends for anything. Your friends will always have your best interest and wouldn't want to see you hurt. You can be partial to your hurt feelings and could say terrible things about your guy that you could regret.

Always make an effort to resolve your issues first before sharing them outside your relationship. You don't want your friends to think differently of your guy the next time they see them, right?

10) You need to take the "friend" part in the Girlfriend seriously.

So sometimes, take sweetness out in the equation and give me some serious talking. You can be straight with him if you think he's acting like an a-hole or a jerk or that he's not treating his family or friend well. You need to be there for him when he's down and in trouble. You must have the guts to talk sense into him and he's up being crazy. You are not just a shoulder to cry one but someone who can truly be honest with him.

Relationship is not all about sweet nothings and "where na you's". It is a lot of work. But when you love someone, you won't even notice how hard it is.

You still need to be your own person even when you think you found someone to complete you...

When a man meets the woman he wants and needs to spend the rest of his life with, he'll let you know if it's you. That is how they are made of.

I hope this post makes sense for those who thinks that love will never find them or in constant battle in their relationship.

My own relationship with my guy is a work in progress, even 6 long years down the road. We both made a lot of mistakes, have made each other cry... but one thing I can attest to is that no one can break my heart unless I allow them. So far, the guy I gave it to isn't giving me a reason to take it back. And that's a nice thing to know.... something I know I don't need to second-guess myself.

Happy Friday...

Another great end of work week. But bad news hovered toward the end of mine. Another member of the family has gone to the Heavens. I'm hanging by a thread. Sometimes good people just get to be with Him sooner... I just wish it doesn't have to be this soon to lose another loved one...

Aria Cucina Italiana opens in Manila on January 28!

Who here doesn't know about Aria probably haven't been to Boracay. You really can't miss this laid back Italian resto, located at the middle of the plush beachfront of Bora.

I remember that for most time that I go to Boracay, we find ourselves munching on wood-fire baked pizza and aldente pasta from this restaurant. And it's now opening in Manila on January 28, 2012 at Bonifacio High Street! Isn't that great news?

Makeup Review | KATE Mineral Liquid Foundation (with video demo)

Last Spring 2011, Kate of Kanebo came out with their Mineral Makup line which has been earning tons of raves from my fellow beuty bloggers here and abroad. It came to our beautiful plush tropical country near fall of last year (September 2011).

I've had this for awhile but have not been using it since I thought it was too light for my skin tone. It was only now that I'm working that I realize I need to use something appropriate for everyday use.

My needs for a foundation at work is as follows:

Good coverage
Can last an 8 hour shift with minor retouching
Will keep my skin matte as I get oily even in a fully-airconditioned room
Lightweight enough for everyday use.

Of course I'm reaching for the moon with my work foundation needs. Surprisingly though, Kate Mineral Liquid Foundation worked really well for me and met most of my requirements since I started using it last week.

It has good coverage and it evens out my skin's redness especially after applying my salicylic base toner. It does not, however, conceal severe dark spots, cystic pimples and other blemishes.
It lasts up to 4 hours without budging but with retouch of a good powder foundation, none is the wiser.
It's mattifying up until the sun hits my face and it produces oilies from the change of temperature.
It is lightweight as most mineral liquid foundations goes.

My skin's current had changed as of the past two days.

My face is starting to peel right now from when I had Easy Peel procedure done two days ago at Flawless.

Kate Mineral Liquid Foundation helped in evening my skin tone but fails to cover the darken parts of my face due to the chemical peel. Although i don't really recommend for anyone to use a foundation when undergoing skin peeling, for those time it can't be helped, foundation that are safe for the skin like Mienral Liquid Foundations and BB Creams are best used during these times.

This liquid makeup comes in 20g tube that is convenient for travelling. The squeeze tube makes it easy to

apply and dispenses out the amount you need. I amount the same amount as you see in the photo below.

I try to apply it with hands so I can warm it and make sure it really blends on to my skin. I also concentrate on parts of my face that needs coverage which basically the center part like sides of my nose, under eyes, cheeks and chin.

So far, I have not experienced any skin reaction and have been liking the results coverage-wise.

If you have dry skin, you can treat this like a BB Cream and use this alone or on top of a hydrating powder makeup. I think KATE also have a compact foundation powder.

Normal to combination, concentrate only to the parts that needs coverage and where you tend to oil up the most. Then, set with foundation.

Oily skin needs to set this with powder makeup and may need to retouch in a few hours. (see video above for demo)

Overall, I like the effects and feel of it against skin and may be buying another tube if this rans out. That is if I haven't discovered a new liquid makeup just yet. Hehehe! But no worries since this one will very well last me for a couple of months.

Just in! I got a sample for review of the the White Perfect Micro-Vibration 3 in 1 Eye Brightener. And who wouldn't want some nifty beauty gadget, right?

I couldn't believe the amount of undereye baggies I've acquired in just few weeks of less than 5 hours of sleep. It's quite obvious and I'm very bothered with it. I do have some quick remedies that I do at home to further prevent them from worsening like applying cucumber on my eyes before going to bed. Applying ice over my undereyes over the weekend and drinking lots of fluids. Of course, I also apply eye creams that I've accumualted on my vanity.

But for those of you are having the same undereye dilemma as I am, here's something worth looking into. It's the L'oreal White Perfect 3 in 1 Eye Brightener. I put in a category of Tech Tuesday because of its ingenious micro-vibrating tool!

Its a two-step skin care product in combating your underyes problem. From puffy eyes, dark circles and spots. Here's how i apply it.,

Step 1: Apply the White Perfect eye cream with brigthening complex and Tourmaline Gemstone to help reduce dark circle and spots on the lower eye contour. Make sure the product is distributed evenly without tugging the skin.

This has three main ingredients that have been raved about from their other White Perfect line:

Melanin Vanish: Anti-spots and intense brightening; 1 Drop, 10x more powerful
Tourmaline Gemstone: Anti-dulleness; Stimulates micro-circulation
Caffeine: Anti-eye bags; Reference ingredient for eye products for its draining and decongesting action

Step 2: Remove protective Cap and turn on the vibrating massager. Divide undereyes into 5 sections. Starting in the middle moving inward and then outward.

Take note: Do not move it sideways, just press it gently into the points since the skin around this area ismore sensitive and prone to sagging.

The 130 micro-vibrasions per second helps in absorbing the eye cream and improve blood circulation around the eye area.

You'll immediately feel refresh after one application.

I'm road testing this as I write this post and have yet to conclude what this product has done for me. But so far I'm loving the micro-vibrating tool.

The cool feel of the rounded steel relaxes my eyes after spending much time in front of the computer. I also get a little bit ticklish when i press the ball on the inner corners of my undereyes.

At first try, I could really feel a difference... it's that "maaliwalas" feel around the eye area. Of course, no amount of product will work if we also don't try to take care of ourselves naturally. I'm slowly adjusting my schedule so I can get that much needed 8 hour sleep so I don't aggravate my eyebags.

I recommend this to those who spend hours upon hours in front of the comupeter as I notice that the birbarion tool helps ease the pressure around my eyes.

The great thing is this is only Php695! A very affordable 3 in 1 skincare and beauty gadget in one!

Will update you within the next two weeks if it has positive effects on my eye area. :)

Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters | Tutti Frutti, Sugar Plum, Gumdrop

I knew there was something familiar the moment I got my hands on the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters. It was a casual version of a the Revlon Colorburst Lipsticks. And same as the popular, much-raved about lipstick, Colorburst Lip Butter didn't fall short of expectations.

It's like the sporty stylish sister, Lip Butters seem to be low maintenance but have that pizzazz. I was scared it was going to be just like a regular lip balm and won't have much pigmentation. Thank God, it didn't.

What's great is that it is really moisturizing. Sugar Plum has quite taken over my lip balms! It hs that pigmentation that I need for a lipstick but it is also helping my skin maintain mositure inside the office wherein the aircon can dry up my lips.

Colorburst Lip Butters have an amazing selections as well. The shades are very Spring/Summer. But all very wearable as the color is buildable. This Lustre finish of MAC Lipsticks. The color payoff comes after a few application.

Tutti Frutti is sheer orange that is great for those who want to follow the trend of Spring/Summer 2012. If you are scared to rock matte or opaque orange as suggested, this is a great lip product you can try. It's a wearable orange that gives the lips a hint of it. Build color by applying more. Stay within the color family of peaches for the rest of your makeup when sporting this lip color.

Sugar Plum is the most wearable shade out of the three and what I've been using a lot lately. It has lorded over my other lip balms and quite monopolized my lips for the past few days. I am quite loving this shade as it goes with my everyday office attire. It compliments my simple makeup looks. I've also been looking for a nice purple ton lipstick much like my MAC Viva Glam VI but way more darker and redder. This fits the bill splendidly.

Gumdrop is not the most enticing shade from these three. but it has a nice sheen that is great for smokey eyes. Definitely screams avant garde. It doesn't go on as purple as the bullet suggest but it's like a purple pink. Will show you a lip swatch. I can't say this is my favorite or that I'll wear this frequently or ever. But it does have its charm.

What I love...

Lips smoothening properties
Keeps my lips soft and moisturized
Prevent chapping of the lips!
Great pigmentation, amazing for a lip butter lip product
These shades compliment my lips and skintone (surprisingly)
Comes in a see through bottle so you see the actual shade.
Wide range of shades available
The scent of mango, cocoa and shea makes me think of dessert

What I don't...

Hard to pop out from its cover
Given it's a lip butter, bullet stick isn't as sturdy
Price is steep Php500++

Buy this if you like great pigmentation with a nice sheen and something that keeps your lips soft and hydrated.

Skip this if you have way too many lip balms, lip products etc. and isn't really into all-in-one sort of thing.

Overall, I really like the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter. Since I get these for reviews, I didn't get a chance to choose the colors. I've researched online that they have way better shades that what I got for review so check them out. I thing many likes their red Raspberry pie, Cupcake, Creamsicle and Candy Apple. I think for the price and for the amount of product and pigmentation you're getting, you'll love these.

As for me, I'll go and visit Revlon Counters and get me some more wearable shades compared to these three. Hehehe!

Indulgent Hand and Foot Hamman Package: A Morrocan Bliss for Nail-a-holics

Anybody who lives in the vicinity of SM Hypermart Pasig probably knows that Nail-a-holics have been open for quite sometime. I've going to this place for my nail needs because its the only place I can be comfortable in and really good manicure and pedicure. Unfortunately, other nail spas near my place and those situated inside SM Hypermart falls short of my expectation. Nail spas doesn't come cheap compared to getting them at salons so I want to get all my money's worth.

And another reason I like going to Nail-a-holics is because their Hand and Foot Hammam Package! It is by far one of the best spa experience I've ever had.

What is Hammam?

Hammam is a Moroccan spa ritual that includes batting, scrubbing and exfoliating using popular Moroccan products like black olive and argan oil in an alternating hot and cold room temperatures. The Hammam is then needed with a soothing massage and a tea.

I was so excited to try this as I've been hearing really great things about argan oil and its benefits. The ritual is very simple but the products used was so rich, I left the nail spa totally moisturized and invigorated.

As always, the feet is soaked in a tub of warm water with soap. This cleanses the feet and softens it for scrubbing. Next, both my feet and legs were treated for exfoliation with dead-sea salt and olive scrub to remove dead skin. After scrubbing, Dead Sea Mud Mask was applied on to my legs. The mask stayed on till the end of my foot spa and pedicure.

I really feel like a Morrocan royalty getting this hand and foot spa. It is such a lovely experience to have someone fuss on you. Suffice it to say that I really enjoy this spa experience through and through. The ambience was helpful putting me in the mood. Nail-a-holics interiors always put me in a relaxing mood. Well, who wouldn't if you're a beach lover.

The place is so relaxing that I could fall asleep as they do this ritual on me. I recommend this to anyone who needs serious pampering and those with extremely dry hands and feet.

My manicurist helped me choose this nail polish from Orly, Green Apple, for both my hand and feet. It's a lovely shade of green apple as the name suggest! Oh! And polish lasted weeks two weeks on me. I just had to replace it because the growth on my nails was showing. So surprised because usually my polish would chip unless I use a nice top coat.

What I like best is that they weren't stingy with the Moroccan Argan Oil. They use the one from Cynos, called Body and Thairapy Morrocan Argan Oil. Other argan oils I've tried, the scent always put me off. But this one didn't it actually smelled spa-ish. And this one is only Php1200 for such a huge bottle.

Do look for Melody and Canze when going to Nail-a-holics SM Hypermart, they did a great job on my Hammam package. :)

Office Makeup Tips You Can Use

Workplace is like a second home for many of us. We spend nearly half of our days inside it and we want to be as comfortable as possible. Since I'm working in a digital environment, our office attire is very casual, nearly laid back. It's not a place wherein I would need to wear too much makeup. Actually, I go to the office bare faced most of the time with just sunscreen on. I know it's a crazy idea given how much I'm addicted to wearing makeup but I like the break from piling on too much products.

Grooming ones' self for work really depends on your workplace environment.

It could be casual like our where you can wear jeans, shirt and rubbershoes.

It could be very strict to a point that the job requires you to be in business attire or in a uniform.

It could be in an artistic place that allows you to show off your creativity.

And same goes for your makeup.

Casual workplace need you not to have complete done makeup.

Mattify face when oilies surfaces
Apply concealer on your undereyes if you have dark baggies
And moisturize lips from the cold harsh aircon in your office.

Strict or formal workplace may have defined rules on what makeup you should be wearing.

Conceal visible blemishes and dark undereyes
Apply blush for a more pleasing appearance.
Define brows to avoid the face looking too washed out.
Color the lips with neutral tones or lip-but-better shades.

Creative work environment usually encourages artistic fashion choice and that include your make

Be as adventurous as you can. Enjoy this as this is an avenue for your creativity.
But then again, hold on the face painting and black lipstick.
Wearing red hot pink or orange lipstick though is great way to take advantage of this freedom.

Here's a picture of me in casual work environment. A simple everyday makeup look that is easy to achieve and with practice takes less time to do.

What I use:

Face Powder - something that is mattifying and provides good coverage
Concealer - to diminish blemishes like acne scars and dark undereye
Blush - just a hint of color to reduce the dullness of my skin.
Lip color - I give myself a bit of leeway here and apply something pretty to show a bit of my love for makeup, so soft pink lips ang drama ko.
I also applied eyeliner, mascara and brow shade just because I can't live without them. But this one is easy to skip especially if you know you'll be in your cubicle for 8 to 5. :)

Feel comfy in the office by having the following beauty essentials in one for your drawers:

Towellete
Facial Wash
Liquid Hand Soap
Travel Size makeup remover
Cottons and earbuds
Moisturizer
Hand Lotion
Tissue

These things will come in hand when you need to re-apply your makeup or need to remove it when you make makeup blunders. :)

More tips:

Remember to re-apply sunscreen before heading out for lunch. Use a mineral makeup powder of a powder foundation with SPF if you don't want to budge your makeup.
Remember to moisturize your lips to avoid it from chapping.
Keep your hands soft and supple with a hand cream, always apply after washing your hands.
When eyes starts to twitch or ithcy, don't scratch. Use the towellete and slightly dampen it with cold water and press on to your lids to relax the eyes.

Lookeee! Revlon kindly sent them over their Revlon Top Speed Fast Dry Nail Enamel for review and I've had a chance to try two of them pa lang (swatches to follow!) I've been too busy at work and leaving early before I could take a pic. :)

Oh wait! Here's the of Chili... so summer-y, noh?!

Revlon Top Speed in "Chili" is a great dupe for MAC Nail Lacquer in Kid Orange.

I have both and could hardly tell the diff.

Although Revlon nail polishes may come a bit more expensive than what we're regularly use to, it does live up to it name Top Speed. It does apply easier and dries faster compared to my cheaper brand nail polishes. Given you use a nice quality top coat like Sechvite, then you know you'll get your money's worth with expensive nail polishes like this.

I never use to understand my friends from beauty blogging world and IRL who collects nail polishes. But probably they say the same thing about girls like me who collects lipstick and foundation! Ha! But now I get it a little.

It really is about the quality of the nail polish. And that a nice looking nails shows off how well you take care of yourself. Aside from the fact that different color choices allows you to play with it.

I've had a chance to grow my nails for sometime during the holidays (yes, even when I clean the bathroom and wash the dishes) and having nail polish on them long nails makes it look sexier. And when I started using really nice polishes did I got the frustration out of way in applying them. It was seriosuly like liquid eyeliner for me when I was just starting out with applying makeup.

The more I started playing around with polishes the more confident I was!

So these Top Speed really just came in time because I can honestly say I already graduated from the newbie level in using nail polishes!

Revlon Top Speed Fast Dry Nail Enamel says it all.

It definitely dries faster compared to other polishes I've tried (I've only tried regular ones)
It doesn't cause bubbles
Last quite awhile.
No chipping for good 4 to 6 days (note that I like to wash my hands a lot, have short nails already and wash dishes)
May stain nails depending on what color your polish (try to apply base first)
Great dupes for the more high-end nail polishes.
OMG what a great selection of shades!
Great if you're always in a hurry...

And yes, you can afford to change your nail polish again and again and again... Just like what Jessica Alba said on the Revlon Top Speed Fast Dry Nail Enamel video ad. :) hahahahaha!

So if you're the type to like just one kind of nail polish, I suggest you invest in one of these and bring them to the salon when getting your nails done. Restouching or reapplying is fast with the Revlon Top Speed.

Espresso | Golden | Vintage

Espresso is brown base glaze with a hint of red. This dark chocolate with sheen and subtle glitters.
Golden is a true blu gold worthy of a Chinese Royal family. I am inlove with Golden!
Vintage is a deep magenta shade, a mix of pink and purple that quite suggest a mature appeal. This is a great shade for fall. For summer, try to keep the make light on the eyes when sporting this polish.

Chili | Lily | Jaded

These selections right here calls indeed for my favorite season, summer! Wear this everyday and you'll be strutting the nails of the models showcasing fashion for Spring-Summer 2012.

Chili is red base orange and may be considered as a bright red shade.
Lily is pastel violet that adds quite a fun character. Wear this shade for an exciting day.
Jaded reminds me of mint green, light and easy on the eyes.

I'm quite fix with these tree but I do want to acquire more like Candy (pink shade) and Stormy ( a greyish brown shade). Sigh! I hope it's the 30th already!

Tech Tuesday | Marshall Major and Minor Headphones

Upon learning of the brand of these headsets and earphones, it brought me back to the days of being a fan of rock bands like Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots and Metallica. I was sort of immersed in the world of rock and roll listening to classics like the Beatles, Hendrix and Santana. yes, surprising as it may seem... I was into all that. To learn that one of the biggest maker of guitar amps to create a collection of headphones is definitely worth lending our two ears.

Did it live up to its successful huge name?

To me it did. I'm not much of a musician to be able to differentiate the bass and such of an earphones. But even to a newbie, you can definitely recognize good quality with these headsets. The sleek logo of Marshall imprinted on the arpieces makes this such a statement that I take this seriously.

Many heads turned actually when I used the ear-in piece while getting my mani-pedi at a local salon and while watching my shows at my favorite coffee shops. The uniqueness and the gold hardware probably was an eye candy to passers by. As for me, was so happy to drown out noise with these earphones.

I definitely fell in love with white and gold. I'm a girl after all who likes her things well coordinated or at the least looking hella pretty. I make sure that all my gadgets are sleek and chic as well as performing on a top level. Marshall headsets definitely exceeds expectation. That much I can say.

Marshall Major Headphones is L-O-V-E. I was able to drown out sounds from my noisy neighbors as I was editing a video tutorial. I listened to the music I chose to embed, tune it the way I want it and merge it to make the 8 minute video I was editing. I was also enjoying using this when the BF hogs the TV when there's NBA or PBA showing and I'm left with watching my shows on my laptop.

If you're really are taking your music or listening experience seriously, it's worth to give Marshall a try. Especially if you want something sleek and fancy looking and has a sturdy quality to it. But then again for srious musician, I'm sure this Marshall is still exceeded by other headphones that has been here far longer than these two. But then again, you'll never know until you try.

The very first time I was introduced to this product is seeing it on my mom's vanity. I'm not sure how she came upon it, but the thin glass bottle with tin cap got to me. Not to mention the scent it has. I use to sleep at my mom's room or vice versa when my dad use to go to the province. My mom hated sleeping alone, you see. For quite awhile, I would be intrigued with the scent of her lotion. Wrong was I that it was the Olive Oil Dry Oil Mist after all.

As a young girl in college, who barely knew anything about body care (except for the typical bathing and applying lotion), dry oil mist was entirely a new concept! I can't believe that now I have knowledge enough to write my own book about beauty!

The use of Olive Oil dates back to 5000 BC, they use it same way as we use them now... either for our cooking or for our body. Olive Oil was utilized during Ancient Egypt, Roman and Greeks, too. It's used for healing, oiling up athlete's body and even during death as they prepare it for it's final rest. This day and age, though, we focus more on how Olive Oil helps us in our diet and in beautifying our body.

I'm really glad that The Body Shop brought the Olive Oil Dry Oil Mist back to their store. It not only brings back good memories of me and my mom sharing this with each other, but also because I enjoy its light scent and the subtle sheen it gives me body.

Estee Lauder's Advanced Night Repair | Week 1: Why I'm Using it Now

When I was introduced to Advanced Night Repair serum by Estee Lauder Philippines, I didn't realize the extent of its popularity. I just knew that it was a great product and many raves about it. I didn't even know that it's been a ground-breaking product for over 30 years!

The "little brown bottle" looked familiar though. If I'm not mistaken, I've been seeing this on the night stand of my grandmother while growing up, probably just a different form.

Estee Lauder was one of the first in the beauty industry to link skin-aging to DNA damage. As we all know, we are all made up of cells and our cells houses our DNA. Ever since the discovery of DNA and how important it is in molding our body and personality, beauty brands have been knee-deep in finding ways on how to utilize this discovery in preventing skin-aging.

Estee Lauder, an innovator and pioneer for a lot of skin creams in the market, discovered that DNA cannot withstand outside factors like populations, sun damage and other stressors. Our skin, despite it being the largest part of our body is the most vulnerable. They discovered that our DNA breaks down continuously because of these stressors and causes irreperable damage.

Estee Lauder's very first Night Cream was one of the first of their line to address visible DNA Damage. Two decades later, they have continuously improved in giving women a fighting chance to renew their skin and for some, even turn back time.

I finally succumbed to the hype when Estee Lauder PH included yours truly in their ANR challenge to finally try out this famous "little brown bottle". After reading reviews all over the internet and seeing how it earned 4 out 5 at MakeupAlley, I see no reason why I should still hesitate further.

How I use this:

After cleansing and toning, I apply 2 drops of the Advanced Night Repair Serum all over my face. A drop or two on my neck and the same for the back of my hands.
I avoid applying on any cystic acne that I may have. I apply spot-medication for that.
Then, I apply a moisturizer that is fit for my oily skin.

Why do we still need to apply a separate moisturizer? Doesn't the Advanced Night Repair moisturizing already?

Advanced Night Repair activates our skin that it absorbs more moisture. Our skin may tend to be resilient to skin care that is why it takes a awhile for products to work on us.What ANR does it that it plays a supporting role in repairing and protecting the skin as it heals. This is best use at night time as it's when our body is regaining its strength.

During the morning, however, I still still use this but skip the moisturizer and go straight to applying my sunblock.

I know its premature but I feel that I'm already feeling and seeing visible results. My skin feels smoother, softer and silkier. I still get a few bumps of pimples but nothing too alarming and shocking since I get them anyway irregardless of what products I use. I just avoid applying the ANR on those spots if I could.

My face is still oily, but I don't think this serum or the moisturizer I apply aggravates it.

My birthday is in less than 9 months, I read that people who used the Advanced Night Repair from Estee Lauder had dramatic results that they could barely notice their old skin from when they started this skin care. I wish to have the same result!

It's a Whole New World

Sorry I've been so busy lately. My new job as a Social Media Associate/Copywriter is eating a lot of my time. And I am loving it! It's something I thought I could never do thinking that it was too technical. But I'm happy to be in a company that values their employees and acknowledges their strengths and weaknesses. My boss is pretty awesome and laidback. My officemates are extremely helpful and they make the ytransistion to this new world really amazing.

I'm still very raw and learning as we go but I can feel that they appreciate my presence and values what I have to offer. Going to work has never been this fun.

Waking up early though is a big issue for me. I notice that I'm a very nocturnal person. I guess most people who are in creative writing and arts do like night time better.

Gosh, it's been a whirlwind week! I know that I've been remiss on my blog posts. But do bear with me. I still have a lot in store for you like reviews, features, tutorials and face of the days.

Makeup and skincare is still a very big part of my life. I still live and breath them. But so far, I'm loving the fresh air i'm experiencing in this new work. It's refreshing from what I use to do before. My creative side is extremely utilized and I like how it feels.

I'll show you soon what makeup I wear in the office and waht products that makes my life easier to enjoy makeup and not be too bothered with retouching when I'm at work.

Verdant Makeup Look with Venus and Mars Minerals

Jamie and Justin, the girls behind the online sensation, Venus and Mars Naturals, revamped their mineral makeup line, Pureglow Minerals, and merged it with their popular emu oil- base skin care line. I think it's a great idea! All natural products housed under one name. :)

I've frequently used their mineral makeup ever since I've had them a year or two ago. I love their blushes as it fits my skintone perfectly and they really last long on my oily cheeks. So when they gave me a sample set to try out more of their line, I was so eager to try them. I even made a short Youtube video just to show you how mineral makeup transform my ho-hum look to a simple yet striking everyday makeup look.

Green eye shadows as I've said before and as pointed out my many Asian beauty gurus compliments Asian skin tone. It may be a bit risky to wear such a bold color for everyday look, but until you try it you'll never know. This look, for example, that I created using the V&M minerals. It looked a bit off when I seeing it in front of the mirror because I rarely go out with eye shadow this bold and bright but it works! I love how vibrant it made my eyes but still a bit understated when I open them. It adds that little oomph to an otherwise simple look.

Here are the Venus & Mars Mineral products that I used for this look.

Mineral Primer with Rose Powder and Red Clay (Rose have a way of calming the skin while Red Clay is beneficial for troubled skin)
Face Me Mineral Foundation in Mocha Creme (its a bit too light for me but I'm acidic so this changes in hue in hour or two after application)
Shades of Hue Rosiest Rush Mineral Blush (my ultimate favorite blush from their line!)
Illuminator Cognito Mineral Concealer (its a green powder that reduces redness)
Subtle Sexiness Elusive Finishing Powder (I use this more of a highlight as it has satin finish)
Represet Mania Mineral Eye Shadow (an intense shimmery green eyeshadow)
Lip Butter Tints in Pink Posies (pigmentation is very impressive that its almost like a lipstick)

I wanted the look to be as understated as possible so I just used one eyeshadow for the to avoid drama and smoke around my eyes. I just really want that pop of color.

When using dark shimmery eyeshadows that are as pigmented as Represet Mineral Eyeshadow from Venus and Mars, you get away not applying eyeliner. Dark shadows have a way of accentuating the eyes like eyeliners do. But for this look, I wanted to define my eyes more and veer it away from my eye bags. So I lined and loaded on mascara to make my eyes wider, pronounce the whiteness of the eyeballs and define it better.

I also didn't want it to be top heavy so I lined my lower lashline and run the eyeshadow along it. It's still simple but just a little more defined.

TIP:

When doing bright eyeshadow, never miss shading and defining your brows. This pulls the look together and balance out the boldness of the eyes. Don't know what your brow shade is? Rule of thumb is if your hair is dark, choose two shades lighter than your hair. Simple right?

I hope this encourages those of you who just have one eyeshadow at home and wanted to try out makeup for the first time.

I was so impressed withe Venus & Mars Lip Butter Tints in Pink Posies. It could pass as a complimenting pink lipstick with how pigmented it is. If you're looking to add more color to your lips but won't succumb to the dryness of a regular lipstick, this is a great product to try out.

Downside for me though is that I'm not thrilled with the scent of emu oil wafting from the Lip Tints. This isn't something you'd want to wear when you are smooching with the BF since pure and quality emu oil has a tendency to have a strong unsavory scent. At least for me, it does. But if you don't consider this as a con, then I suggest getting more shades of the Lip Butter Tints. It's way more affordable than lipstick with hyper color to boost.

Mineral makeup plays a special role in my addiction to cosmetics. I'm glad that more and more quality mineral makeup are available here in the Philippines. Before, many of us, had to purchase them online, risk our money and had to wait weeks and sometimes even months just so we can try them out now. Lucky you if you didn't go through all this process! Now you can just have to wait for days or just simply visit them at thier shops or bazaars!

Venus and Mars Naturals have been actively participating in bazaars and recently opened a showroom to cater for thosw ho want to try and test products first before purchasing. Visit them at their scheduled bazaars or schedule a visit at their studio. Or the more convenient thing is order via their website or facebook page and just wait 2 to 3 days for shipping. It's just way more convenient nowadays.

Makeup is really an expression, a simple art that many of us can do. No matter what tools you use or products you apply, always remember that you don't have to take it too seriously. Cosmetics should be fun! What more with mineral makeup that is safe and healthy for the skin?

Benefit Stay Don't Stray Stay-Put Primer | The Best Primer Yet?

I just recently started with my new job. And I notice that I'm in dire need of cosmetics that gives me 24 hour protection and lasting power. It's a good thing that I got a chance to grab Stay Don't Stray from Benefits Cosmetics when they recently opened at Greenbelt 5.

Loyal as I am to the Urban Decay Primer Potion, it's nice to have a new product to play with. After all, I'm always on a look out for the next "it" primer.

Why take notice of the Stay Don't Stray Eye Primer?

It's an oil-free "stay-put primer for concealers and eye shadows." Meaning, prevent not only your eye shadows from creasing but your concealers, too.
Not too much into concealers but want a brighter looking eyes? Skip building products around the eyes as this dual-purpose primer brightens the eye area from lids to under eye area, no matter what skin.
I've seen this being used by woman of different colors and I saw that this is indeed a universal shade. it has a yellow undertone base that blends well with any skin and provides that brightening and wide awake look.
It has smoothening and anti-aging ingredients like Vitamin E that will act as a skincare whilst you wearing your favorite eyeshadow.

Why do you need an eye primer in the first place?

I know it's an extra expense and most primers that really works like Urban Decay, Nars and now this, cost a lot of money. But let me assure you that an eye primer is as important purchasing a good foundation. If you can find an affordable primer that works for you, good for you. Give me a ring so I can try it, too!
If you have extremely oily lids and find eye shadows moving around creasing and leaving you looking gross at the middle of an event... then you definitely need an Eye Primer!
Don't rely on concealers as it tends to melt or warm up upon impact to the skin to blend naturally with its shade. With an area like the lids that constantly move, you need something that is more durable and able to withstand movement, heat and packed on products. Eye Primers is the answer to that!
Most likely, you give up on using eye shadows because it's hard to blend against your lids. That's because some products need something to attach itself to a lot better than just your bare lids. Primers make a great base for eye makeup and packing on products is a breeze. Not to mention that your eye shadows are a lot more vibrant!
It's just more fun to play with makeup when you have one!

Given those things I mentioned, there's no mistake that Eye shadow primers are extremely important for me. But did Stay Don't Stray made the cut?

It did! It did! I won't have to wet my pants with nervousness whenever I ran out of Urban Decay!

Stay Don't Stray for the past several times I've been using it have performed flawlessly and what looks to be a so effortlessly!

It's easy to blend against the skin and especially under the eye area.
Eye shadows attached to it like it's in love!
Eye shadows are easy to blend against each other as this makes a great base!
Most importantly, it has good staying power and does prevent my eye shadow from creasing!

Honestly, is there a downside?

the pump dispenses a bit too much than what I needed. Control on the amount you need can be a bit of a trouble but not entirely bothersome.

Review: B Skin BB Cream by HDI Network

B Skin is the newest BB Cream player in town. It's manufactured by a company very familiar with the need of skin and the body for natural products. Skeptic as I am with BB Creams (I think they are best reserved for those with less than oily skin), I pushed it aside and went ahead and tried it.

What prompted me try this? I noticed while I was swatching it how it changed color/shade and blended against my skin. Yes, it is skin-matching! I was pleasantly surprised as most BB Creams I've tried are either too grayish in tint or too light for my skintone. You can check out the video I made below to see how it fared on my skin.

Although the B Skin BB Cream have that pink-tone base, it worked well against my skin. Nothing a bit of powder couldn't fix.

But no surprise here, this is a true blue BB Cream with its healing and moisturizing properties.

It has Green Tea, Royal Jelly, Abutin, Jojoba, Allantoin and Vitamin, E.

Green Tea which makes a great antioxidant and has the ability to regenerate cell productions.
Royal Jelly is great antibacterial ingredients and great a stimulation blood circulation that reduces skin dullness and sullenness.
Arbutin is a natural lightening ingredient that is great for skin suffering from hyper-pigmentation.
Jojoba is known for its moisturizing properties that calm the skin.
Allantoin moisturizes the skin and gives it a smooth appreance. It's a natural chemical that is safe for any skintype.
Vitamin E or Tocopheryl Acetate preserves the skin's elasticity and increases collagen production that most anti-aging products have this.
Titanium Dioxide is abundant in this product, it being the second most active ingredient on the list. Which ensures sun protection from UVA and UVB.

B Skin BB Cream also boast of its Microcap Technology. It's minute beads that encapsulate the ingredients. Upon dispensing and blending, that's the only time that these active ingredients are released to ensure optimal results and freshness. It's a bit complicated but it just says that this technology helps the ingredients in becoming more effective to help with skin problems.

How to use:

BSkin BB Cream is best used after thoroughly cleansing and toning your skin.

If you have Dry Skin, you can apply your regular moisturizer and then apply this as you would a foundation.

For Normal to Combination, you can choose to skip your moisturizer and exchange it with this BB Cream.

For oily and severely oily skin, skip moisturizer altogether and pat this down with a mattifying face powder.

Remove as you would remove your regular foundation.

What I like about Bskin BB Cream...

It's skin-matching, makes it ideal for those who can't find a skintone match with other BB Cream
A little goes a long way.
Provides medium coverage.
Conceals minor bumps and small dark acne spots.
Have a nice pleasant smell to it.
Moisturizes the skin really well.
Provides a dewy finish.
Impressive list of ingredients!
It had whopping SPF 37 with PA +++!
It's relatively cheaper compared to other BB Creams. It's only Php795!

What I don't...

Oilies appear an hour or so after application.
Not for extremely oily skin... stick to a matte foundation instead.
Skin may react to mineral oil if you're allergic to it.

I really find the skin-matching power of the BSkin BB Cream. It certainly makes life easier for me to use this compared to the other BB Creams. I swear I've given up hope on BB Creams. But I'm glad this one did not disappoint. Although it is very moisturizing that it hardly contains my oilies at bay, I still find this better than most BB Creams I've tried. Mainly because it doesn't wash me out, break me out or break the bank with its price.

Here's a photo of the me trying out BSkin BB Cream. This one acts more like a tinted moisturizer for me. But I'm sure as the day is long that those with problematic skin will love the healing properties that this long tube has.

I will most likely repurchase this again. But not at this point when my oilies are too active. I think for my skin type, this is not the best product for me just yet. But on days when I'm not all too thrilled to pack on so much foundation, I will use BSkin BB Cream for a tad bit of coverage that packs quite a lot of punch on reviving the skin.

I believe that even with my lack of knowledge and experience with BB Creams, this is going to be a smash hit for those who fans of said products.

Marie Digby for Makeup Forever Philippines: Meet & Greet Event

One of the highlights of the Holiday 2011 was the time I got invited to Makeup Forever and meet Marie Digby. Back in law school, I pretty much got into the her music. When you're in Law School, a great playlist was what you need while studying. That's when I discovered Marie Digby as I was searching for videos on youtube that I can play and listen to. I got hooked. Her rendition of some of my favorite songs were amazing if not totally improved from the original.

I'm hardly starstruck but seeing Marie Digby seems like meeting Snow White coming to life! She's incredibly fair! I just love how soft spoken and finesse she was during the Meet & Greet which i may say was quite dominated by her loyal Filipino fans. She's very at ease the whole time seemingly running on energizer answering all of our questions.

Q&A started and I couldn't help but ask her questions about her collaboration with Makeup Forever. It was quite a serendipity that her favorite Makeup Brand asked her to showcase the wonders of what Makeup Forever can offer you. For Holidays, Marie came up with a look using some of the brand's best-selling products like the HD Primer, Face and Body Foundation, Aqua Liner and Red Lipstick.

She shares that she has been doing her own makeup and watching Youtube gurus like Michelle Phan and Lauren Luke but learning more at Maquillage Academe increased her knowledge about Makeup Artistry. One of things she learned was where to flick the wing out when applying eyeliner. She shares that she prefers simple makeup looks but adores red lipstick for special occasion. Though she's not seeing someone, her doors are open and waiting for that someone. Right now, it's more on career and family for Marie Digby.

I always to ask women celebrities about advise to young girls about makeup and Marie Digby did provide me with of the best answers if I may say so. She says. "It's better if they work on the inside.... there is always time for makeup." Strong wise words that I think young girls should follow. I guess it can be said that Marie did work on her inside first, improving her talents and showcasing them and then now as a celebrity endorser for a big makeup brand gives her now the time to play with all the makeup she wants.

Should you say that there are lack of role models girls can look up to nowadays, I say there's always Marie Digby.

Brown Eyes for NYE | The Body Shop 4-Step Smokey Eyes Palette

Keeping it low-key for New Year's Eve was something I didn't plan. I was hoping I could go all glittery and bright welcoming 2012. But all's good, this look was way more appropriate for an intimate celebration that we had during New Year's Eve. It was also a chance to use again my 4-Step Smokey Eyes Palette from The Body Shop.

I've always like The Body Shop's eyeshadows. They are easy to pack on, blend and gives good color pay-off. For girls with less than oily skin, you don't even need a primer as this barely creases on a well-prep lids.

Getting the Gold Brown Palette was a very good choice because it's just not for creating smokey eyes, this is also great for every look, just tone down the use of the brown shade a bit. Speaking of the brown shade, girls with tan skin or those with morena skin could probably use this as an eyebrow powder.

I got to record this look for a video tutorial. I hope this helps you achieve this look on your own. It's pretty simple to do, so enjoy!

Apply a primer to avoid creasing of eye shadows.
Make eye shadows more vibrant with base. If you don't have a cream shadow base, use a pencil liner.
Creating smoky eyes is easier when you start with the darkest shade in the palette.
Balance out and blend the eye shadow with the midtone shade on the palette to create gradient and reduce harsh line.
Blend well.
Highlight the brow bone with the lightest shade in the palette. This defines it and attract more light to eliminate you looking washed out or punched.
Apply your liner, mascara as usual. Do double coats.
Clean fall out with a makeup remover.
Foundation is best done after completing your eye makeup look.
Add dimension to the face by contouring and highlighting.
Apply the blush on the apply of your cheeks to liven up your face.
Keep the lips nude or neutral and gloss up to complete the look.
Define your brows to frame the face.
