Have you heard the people who visit all the NFL stadiums, or collect a complete set of spoons?

How about the ones who absolutely must see a certain famous person before they die. Perhaps visit some holy land, either cultural or religious, for life ‘fulfillment’

People also pursue that Bachelors in Uselessness. Oh, I didn’t say that.

Actually perhaps pursuing something, anything, is better than no ambition at all. It at least gets you in motion and other things along the way might give you actual benefit.

Here’s my list, none of which I actually intend on seeing through.

#1 In 7 years, I want to be living, or visiting Louisville Kentucky
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Solar_eclipse_global_visibility_2017Aug21T.png

#2 I want to be a random background person in a Saturday Night Live skit trying to look cool, like a waiter.
http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/clips/hamm-and-buble/1198004/
(bonus SNL skit: http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/clips/closet-organizer/1197957/ )

#3 I would like something of mine in a museum anywhere. Hopefully because it is good and not because I vandalized or catastrophically failed.
http://www.missioninnmuseum.com/collect_aviation_lvl3/av00001_lvl3.htm

#4 Become the top search result for ‘3up’ 9th on google and 3rd on bing!
http://www.bing.com/search?q=3up

That’s all for now.

As a user of twitter, google reader, picasa, youtube, and blog writing, I was initially intrigued about the concept of Google Buzz. It is basically an aggregated update about what google thinks makes up my online ‘life’. Photos of me, articles I like, random twitterish thoughts all can be pushed to people who subscribe automatically. Then they can comment directly on them or pass them on to their subscriber list.

However there is a significant problem I believe. My social network is not the same as my gmail email list. I might email random people in my industry, or for a one-time information request. These aren’t really the people that I would want to keep up with in their daily life.

Twitter has an extremely low barrier of entry. You can subscribe to the twitter feed of pretty much anyone except a few private tweeters. Follow famous celebs or people around the world with a similar interest and there isn’t really much more attached to that. They can follow you, or write you a tiny direct message, but the etiquette doesn’t dictate that they need to.

Facebook is also pretty free and open. Old classmates, or coworkers can be pretty much added without second thought. You can know someone for a week or two and become their facebook friend. I personally find the facebook message to be a light way to say hello to people who are too busy to IM, but also not as important as an email or phone call. I also quite like some of the layout system, (although finding out what people are FANS of, or FRIENDS with adds needless clutter)

Then you have the people you email, and specifically users of gmail service. To me, this is not my social circle even though it might cover most of my inner circle. It is quite small, and even if 20% of people I follow post things on a regular basis, it still looks very bare. I also believe many people are hesitant on what to put on their “buzz” because they don’t have a good grasp of who is receiving it.

I do quite like using “shared items” from my reader rss feed. This allows me to read various articles and share the ones I like, perhaps with a comment or opinion. This already existed however inside the reader.google.com page. I was already following a few other ’shared’ feeds from what other people suggested I read. With google buzz I suppose this circle is a little bit bigger.

It also grabs twitter feeds. It is only one directional however, so if I want to reach both Buzz and Twitter followers, I need to post on twitter, and then there is a huge delay before it gets imported. Which kinda sucks

So, that’s what I’ve seen of Google Buzz so far. I have not used the mobile app with it’s location based “buzzing” which seems to be quite interesting. In a crowded area I can envision lots of random people “buzzing” and it could be quite neat to hear what people say in my area. The frequency that this scenario comes up I believe will be quite low however in all but the most crowded cities.

Google Buzz. An enhanced reader.google with potentially some promise to be near twitter. I still find it really awkward to use email as an identifer to follow someone I don’t normally email therefore I don’t believe it will catch on in casual crowds.

For the past, month perhaps, my state of being has not been particularly communicable. The answer to, ‘how are you’, was often, ‘i dont know’. Then I didn’t really feel I had much of a place to start conversations with other people if I was unable to communicate with myself. I had some moments of automation which did not require the real Sheridan to be uncovered.

I can help people and be functional with work and things without actually being Sheridan. I suppose that is still who I am, but it has become second nature to the point where even if my imaginary dog dies, I can still help you with your boyfriend or explain the projectile motion used in my game. Because I can perform most tasks that I do in a normal week, I have not felt an urgent need to evaluate myself. People who ask how I am doing don’t really need to know. Nor do I. Auto-pilot Sheridan is pretty decent.

I found more and more solace in my foreign language music. When taking a break from kpop or jrock I jumped over to my original non-english love, french dancypop. I was excited for Lost again, a television show that has more things that don’t make sense, than ones that do. And some more music that messes with my head. Breakbeat Trip-hop.

I became fascinated about learning very random topics. Celebrated holidays in Korea including White Day, Green Day, Hug Day; the lunisolar calendar which I can’t really quite grasp how it re-aligns itself; Watching David Blaine explain how he can oxygenate his lungs and then go under water for 17 minutes with a near certain belief he would blackout; a Japanese pop star with a entirely computer generated voice and a green haired anime girl; these make up some of the things on my mind lately.

These things don’t really make sense, nor are they particularly relevant to anything in my life. It is easier to avoid thinking about my state if I keep my brain in a world in which I don’t participate in. I suppose that’s part of the appeal of role playing games, fantasy novels, and hallucinogenetic drugs. But I wouldn’t know from experience. Frankly they scare me.

So ya, brain disconnection. I will leave you with this JRock engrish gem.
“There is the time level that wants to bark at even whom.
I let you sing ’cause there is few it and is good, and send it.”

So, time for another rapid fire shot. I realize… twitter is basically this: a micro blog with a few thoughts here and there. However the twitterverse seems like this overcrowded dollar store. Even though I do use it @threeup I’m not much of a fan. And as you will soon find out, I am feeling verbose about these somewhat boring topics; well beyond 140 characters. (But twitter’s appeal is in brevity which is often best)

Ting Tings live
downloadin
Weather
More Korean TV
Itunes

#1 Ting Tings can put on a show. I watch SNL somewhat often, most people don’t find all of it funny, but I find enough of it funny to enjoy it. They have pretty good musicians on too. I saw Muse (perhaps my favorite band) recently who were good, but not great. However, the Ting Tings, who I recommended in 09, are quite amazing. They are an alternative variant ‘pop’ with a high pitch repetitive female vocalist who doesn’t really have an amazing voice, and this too-cool-for-school drummer, but they put in so much energy, and are walking around doing things. I think she was controlling an audio device that recorded her voice or played other pre-recorded things. They ran around, she was singing and hitting a drum at one point. In any case, you can just watch it, but I am quite impressed at their showmanship.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYGiGHRVlWQ <- if this is down search for "ting tings snl" on youtube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AnDs9oB3Gc <- just to show he can play and she can sorta-sing (and isn’t very attractive) and a seemingly slow tune has quite a few pace changes

#2 I have what I thought was normal internet, but just have been downloadin windows 7 at 1253kB/s straight from MSDN. That’s faster than what I thought I had.

#3 So a night in the near past it was raining here, and my drainage system is extremely noisy since water drops hit this metal spout thing. I dragged myself out of bed and wanted to scream. Instead I went and screamed on facebook. I came up with a solution involving cutting a piece of styrofoam to the size of the gutter and putting a rag on top of it so the water drops hit the rag. I took a flashlight and went out with these things without ever seeing this gutter thing. It worked, I felt like a handyman magician. After about an hour, it fell out, and I was awake again, this time too frustrated to go put it back, so I grabbed my blanket and pillow and slept outside my bedroom where it is much quieter. At like 7am, I woke up and went back to my bed with a sore back since the rain and stopped. The point of this story is that I was extremely annoyed, and in no other rainy house I’ve been in was I this annoyed. I’ve slept in a drippy basement for quite a few years, and then a very old freezing cold house for two more. But I was never to the point of screaming about the weather. That changed now that I’m here, in Phoenix, which has no weather (so they say).

#4 I have still been watching two korean shows, and then some other random ones some of the time. These two shows are… #1 Hello Baby: famous girl group takes care of a baby #2 Invincible Youth: random pop stars do farm work. The baby one I think gets a bit boring after episode 10 or something, the more interesting parts are when they make nasty lunches and prank each other, or act like kids (they are sheltered 19-21 year olds). Initially, the baby thing was quite cute and fascinating to my fatherhood side, but now it just seems like work, which is probably how most parents progress. The farm work one though I love, learning how to make random korean foods! They are pretty playful too and it seems like a week at camp.

#5 I was wondering if some music was available on … ugh.. the itunes store. So here I am installing this evil software that I HATE. Now, I gave it a pretty good chance for like, 6 months in 2009, but you can’t tag things or sort things the way I want to, and to me it looks ugly in excel spreadsheet and has wasted space. Zune SW is far an away my fav, and I think Windows Media Player would be second. They both let you click on words and it jumps to that category or whatever. And you can go “back” like a history, useful! They also have pretty good id3 tagging libraries and I am most meticulous about my music sorting than anything else in my life. I also hate everything apple installs, quicktime this, auto update that. Grr… go suck a lemon, apple.

So I install it and get this stupid error with no solution or prompt: “The folder “iTunes” cannot be found or created, and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the “My Music” folder.” Thanks Apple, you want me to go online to problem solve this because you can’t deal with windows7? (I know how to fix it, but still, it is stupid)

Linguistics is weird, not because I want to know how to form my mouth to make sounds, but because they use crazy names and symbols for things.

A close-mid back unrounded vowel is a type of vowel sound, ɤ, called “ram’s horns” I often wonder who is in charge of unicode, the “alphabet” of crazy letters and characters for many languages and weird uses including making my name look cool: ᴈ ʓ ʒ ɝ ᶔ ₃ ᶚᵘᵖ

Then I learned about the Onge language spoke on the islands of Little Andaman Island. It is an endangered language. And I realize I have no idea where Little Andaman Island or anything Andamanian, so I looked it up and found out it is separated from Rutland Island in Great Andaman by the Duncan Passage. It is home to an underlying rainforest and rare species of marine turtles. India tried to colonize it in the 60s, but gave up.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Andaman_Island

Guess what, I still have no idea where it is.

Unicode, and the world, are full of mysteries and it makes me realize how little I know.

in a busy world with tons of places to go and crowds to gather with, there are at least three environments that I feel more familiar and comfortable just by the nature of the place. Even if there is little direct interaction, most humans like being near like-minded people.

My three places are all easy to find in any city,

I love coffee shops, university area coffee shops probably being the most ideal. There is something about people who are trying to learn/work, or caffeinate/stimulate their brain, or hang out in a nice casual chatting environment. There is very little of this environment that is antagonistic or stressful. People may bring their stresses but the coffee shop is your ally in addressing those. Coffee shops are pretty much always on your side. Customers of coffee shops are perceived to be more well informed, more ambitious, more artistic. All of these to me are valuable starting points for finding people to relate to and be interested in. The higher class entitlement, and perhaps snooty attitude of a coffee-shop-regular creeps up quite often, but I guess that goes with the territory.

Airports are pretty great too. Many of the employees understand the value of efficiency and getting people through and served. The travellers in airports have some place to go, and while it is not exactly easy to chat with people who are busy. There are still some times of downtime, or even cooperation for mutual goals, or scenarios. It is an ultimate battle of people vs external force. There is some danger for a subtle selfish move becoming a huge deal if you affect someone else, but those incidents aren’t too frequent when I travel. It is also a great way to be around young families, or high end corporate types, explorers of the world and some other people groups that all come together.

Nonprofit establishments round out this list of places with people I generally appreciate. Caring for others being part of the common goal is something quite precious in a capitalist selfish society. Not all employees have a healthy pleasant attitude regarding the cause, or business they are involved in, but the ones who are good, and believe in the cause are the ones who stick around. Also, the ones looking out for their own benefit could easily switch to something with higher profits when an opportunity arises. That is not to say good people don’t leave, or bad people don’t stay in a nonprofit, but they are good indicators for having a more altruistic value system.

Where else are there places with predominant value systems?

I feel that I am half as weird as an extremely weird person. Maybe two-thirds.

I have a recipe for a delicious desert. It takes one pineapple. Cut it. Serve chilled.

I most certainly feel more alive when the sun is down. Why? Insert cheesy vampire reference here.

I see ties in my closet and then after a while I break down and wear one. Keep immorality out of my closet.

I love giant abrupt changes from light things to heavy ones, or vice versa.

I get itchy from my blanket and talk to my future wife before I sleep.

I feel like I seek true hearts, but most people inside are about diamonds spades or clubs. Uhh.. Spades are up arrows, so, worldly success. Clubs are luck, or … violence. Phew, analogy saved.

I still don’t get bored unless I wait for things. The Sheridan brain is sometimes a locomotion machine and sometimes a cyclical perpetual motion machine. Lately more of the latter.

I like words, but realize this is a knowledge barrier thrust upon people I communicate with.

I am twenty five, but don’t want this to be twenty six. Four months to evolve. Luckily, it would be behavioral not biological evolution.

I am Sheridan, this is where I am.
