Vintage Truck {Weatherford, OK Photographer}

I've been looking for old trucks to take pictures of lately. My soon to be nephew's room will have vintage vehicles. I found this one the other day and was playing around with some MCP Actions in Photoshop. I don't like to do a lot to my pictures because I like to get it right in camera but I wanted a pop of color because of the overcast day. I like the way it turned out.

Tornado Season {Western Oklahoma Photographer}

Tornado season has hit Oklahoma. The proof lies in the destruction around the state. The sight is horrible and astonishing. These pictures came from a mile stretch of road that my family and I drove by on our way home from the city.

We think the metal was from a silo. Some of the wire on the ground looks to be from guard railing (closest was on the interstate about a mile away).

As we were driving through the destruction, new high line poles were up all alone the stretch of road we were traveling. Most of the old high line poles were snapped off and wrapped in wire just like the one below. I can't imagine what it looked liked spinning around and around in the air.

This was the last picture I took during the photo session. It wasn't planned but when I saw him straightening the flag and being so respectful and careful with it, I knew I wanted this shot. It immediately pulled at my heart strings.

Taking pictures of High School Seniors has been bittersweet for me. My own daughter is a Senior this year so most of the Seniors I photograph go to school with her. It's like a constant reminder that my daughter is about to start down a different path in life. So many feeling....happiness, sadness, relief, fear, excitement, pride plus so many more.

Anyway, here are a few of Kelsey from this weekend. We've made a point to have a couple of Senior sessions as the year has gone along. This session was more spontaneous as we were on our way to her brother's baseball game. We had a few minutes before we needed to leave so we decided to stop for a few pictures.

Oklahoma City Zoo

Over spring break, my family and I went to the zoo. Being a first grade teacher, I go once a year with my students at school but the rest of my gang hadn't been in a number of years. It was super crowded because of spring break but it was a beautiful day. Here are few of our favorites of the day:

My daughter has a fascination with owls so here is her favorite.

I love looking at the snakes. My grandpa taught me to appreciate snakes when I was young. He taught me which were harmless and which were harmful (poisonous as well as harmful to his farm).

Because my hubby is a party pooper and didn't have a favorite, I'm picking another of my favorites. I also love the lizards. Can you tell I was a tomboy growing up? I've caught my share of lizards and snakes. lol

My son said his favorites were all the monkeys, apes, orangutans, etc. Here's a couple of shots for him.

I recently needed to take a picture for a project I am doing. The picture needed to be of a childhood toy. I thought of all the toys the kids have had over the years and the few I've kept from my childhood. Nothing seemed to call to me. A couple of days ago, I was texting with my sister (just a fun updating our recent lives chat). After we finished texting, I pulled out my to-do list (yes, I have a to-do list.....I'm weird like that) and saw "take a picture of a childhood toy" staring up at me. With my mind humming from my sister's recent chat and the words I'd just read, I immediately thought of Strawberry Shortcake. My sister was a Strawberry Shortcake fanatic. She had most if not all of the characters including the little strawberry house/case to store everything. After she grew up and had kids of her own (all boys), she gave my daughter her set of Strawberry Shortcake characters. Strawberry Shortcake will always be a fond memory around our house. Here's to you Sis.......Strawberry Shortcake and her villain, Purple Pieman. lol Happy Memories!

Just call me "Betty Homemaker". Okay, so I'm not that good but I can learn to do things when I need to. Lately, I've had a fascination for homemade laundry soap. I researched the different recipes for laundry soap and finally found one I thought I'd try. Most recipes were very similar. I got my recipe from the Tip Junkie Blog. She even has the cute tags attached to the mason jar below.

Homemade Laundry Detergent

6 cups Borax

4 cups Baking Soda

4 cups Washing Soda

4 cups Fels-Naptha bar soap, grated (almost 2 bars)

Begin by grating the bar soap. In a very large container, mix all the ingredients. Be careful when mixing because the powdery stuff goes everywhere. The site I got the recipe from warned the powdery stuff would go up the nose and in the mouth if I wasn't careful. Even with the warning, I still got some up my nose and in my mouth. So, BE CAREFUL. lol

Each load of laundry will need 1/8 cup or 2 tablespoons of mixture.

*This recipe is suppose to be good for HE washing machines.
**This recipe makes a lot (approx. 13 lbs. of product). You'll need a large container to store it. I used a 2 gallon container and had some room left for a scoop.

The hardest part was finding a local store that carried some of the more unusual ingredients. I bought the Borax from Wal-Mart. I bought the Washing Soda and Baking Soda from United Supermarkets. The Fels-Naptha I had to order online. I'm sure I could have gotten it in Oklahoma City but to be honest I didn't want to search around any more. I was ready to make this stuff. If I love this homemade laundry detergent, then I may ask a local store to carry it for me so I can have all ingredients readily available. Since I had to order this online, the cost was just about the same as a cheap detergent (not even close to Tide). If I can order it locally, it will be cheaper than the cheapest detergents on the shelf. However, I'm wondering how it will stand up to my husband's dirty work jeans and my kids' stinky gym clothes.

Thanks to my good friend Becki, I had the wonderful privilege of photographing these beautiful, precious, tiny, soft & warm newborn bunnies. They were barely over 24 hours old. They can't see or hear yet and they barely had any fur at all. They remained content and still while I took a few pictures. Did I tell you they were SO adorable!?!?

Look how much the babies will grow in just a few weeks.

This particular breed of rabbits will grow to be VERY large.

You'd never know by these pictures but we were FREEZING!!!! I'm not sure what the temperature was this day but it was too darn cold. lol These gorgeous brothers (my nephews) endured the cold like champs. I think I was the party pooper here. I was the one that had to go inside for a second so that I could thaw out my hands.

See! Look at them here. There were little turkeys! Playing around so that I had to stay out in the cold longer! lol I'm just a poor tortured Aunt!

Weekly Wandering- Fingernail Polish

I love magazines. I like scanning through all the pictures mostly. Sometimes I find clothing or a product that catches my eye and I'll read about it. I recently read a blurb about Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure nail polish. The magazine was testing the All-in-One Polish to see if it really works. The polish company claimed that five different products (like at the salon) would be put on your finger nails. They say a growth treatment, a filling base coat, a strengthener, color and then a quick dry top coat are all combined together in one nail polish. The magazine tested this and their verdict was "yes, it works". The magazine said after four days of keyboard use and dish washing, the color was still shiny with no chips. SO........my daughter, Kelsey, and I gave it a go. Here's our verdict:

Kelsey and I really liked the extra wide brush. It made application very easy. Kelsey picked a pink color. I picked a nude color (didn't show this color, it was hard to see on camera).

Kelsey & Sheryl's Verdict: A Fail! Sorry folks but you can see from the picture that after only one day it chipped. Kelsey and I both used the computer keyboard. I washed dishes once and Kelsey cleaned her make-up drawer out. We didn't do anything harsh to our nails and got chips. My chips were right on the edge just as Kelsey's show. I think I'll stick to my OPI brand for now.

Oh well! Maybe next time. :)
