We usually eat minced (pork) meat rice out there but at Old Town, it’s minced chicken instead of pork because they are Halal restaurants.

One Saturday afternoon, I was at Queenbay Mall, hungry and didn’t want to spend a lot on lunch so I went to Old Town which once was my favourite eating-out place when it first opened in Penang, but sooner I got bored on their food so I didn’t go there quite some times already until that afternoon.

Went through the menu, I wanted something that can fill my stomach well and I needed rice, so I ordered something that I haven’t tried before, their Homemade Minced Chicken with Flavoured Rice.

Served with an egg and plenty of minced chicken meat, it tasted salty and something new to me. It did filled my stomach full but somehow for RM8.30, I think it’s a little bit expensive for just minced chicken and an egg.

This Old Town Cafe that I had visited locates at the North Zone of Lower Ground Floor in Queensbay Mall.

Any idea why there’s a Starbucks paper cup behind my monitor? I uses it to levitate my wireless connection receiver to receive a better signal, imagine that because I didn’t photograph behind.

It had been quite some times I did not drink Starbucks already and I am missing my favourites Java Chips Frappuccino, hot Vanilla Latte and the Sherperd’s Pie. In order to go to Starbucks, I need to have extra allowance for that, you know, they’re expensive (to me).

I MISS STARBUCKS!

I just to Singapore lately to attend the Nuffnang Asia Pacific Blog Awards and I got to eat some nice Singaporean food.

On my first day to Singapore, we went to Bugis which was where the hotel was. We didn’t really have any idea what to eat at first. If it my parents weren’t there, brother and I would have go to the fast food eg. Mos Burger (I miss Mos Burger!), Burger King.

Just right across the road, opposite of Bugis Junction, near to Bugis Street Market is the QQ Noodle House. QQ sounds so Chinese to me because of the Chinese famous QQ IM. We went in for our brunch. By the way, there’s actually a QQ Ramen House in my town, on the third floor of Prangin Mall. =)

The place really feel Chinese because the waitress and worker in the restaurant were Chinese, I mean Chinese from China. I am also Chinese too, but Malaysian Chinese. It’s different.

So what I ordered was the QQ Mee Pok. I miss Mee Pok, it’s actually a kind flat noodle, different from koay teow, I also don’t know want how to describe it. I knew about this from Mr Brown’s Show. No Tur Kua, there’s fish ball, minced meat, meat ball and a few pieces of char siew. I’ve forgotten about the price but I like this thing. =)

Wonder where can I find Minced Meat Mee Pok in Penang, any idea?

It’s Sushi King Card RM2 Bonanza! Sorry, that I am telling you right now. If you are reading this, tomorrow is the last day for this thing. If you don’t have a Sushi King card, do borrow it from your friend like I do.

Well, I didn’t miss it as I have already went for it yesterday and it’s was a lot funner than last time. The previous one that happened in March wasn’t that good because it was at Prangin Mall’s and the place was not that clean and warm.

I was suggesting to go to Gurney Plaza’s but my friend can’t make it that far and we went to E-Gate’s Sushi King. Queensbay Mall will be a little bit too far and I am afraid that there’s too many people at there too. There’s many people at E-Gate too, we waited for like 10 minutes outside before getting a seats in there and it was after lunch time, around 2pm.

It’s very nice that we got a seat by the belt because there’s people don’t get to sit by the belt. I also get to get my first hands on those expensive coloured plate first.

Some of them stand by the belt just to wait for those high demand one’s like the Unagi and Sake (Salmon).

I took 6 plates, all of which were purple and red which are normally priced at RM5 and RM6 each. =D I was too busy waiting for the plates to come around so I’ve forgotten to take photos of some of them. I ate Salmon, Unagi, Scallops and Prawn. Went twice for Unagi and Scallops.

The lunch for me was good and full. One thing about eating sushi is you can’t keep putting it in your mouth, you have to eat it slowly, eat a couple of it and rest for like 10 minutes and slowly, you will feel full. If you keep putting it into your mouth, you will forget about the price and will be bloated. Haha.

Anyway, my favourite sushi are still the salmon and unagi. Didn’t get a chance to try another type of scallop sushi, perhaps next time gonna try it already.

Do you like Sushi?

I was in town last Sunday and it was dinner time, I didn’t know what to eat. At first, I thought of going to Prangin Mall to look for dinner but it’s already and I don’t really like to go there at night, it’s a little bit scary. After thinking and thinking, called some friend for suggestion and finally found a place to eat and this is the new Sungai Penang Food Court. Seems it’s new and just quite near, so I went there to try out a new place of hawker food.

I was worried about parking as my friend told me that there’s no parking lot and it’s actually not true.

I was pretty excited when I saw so many people eating at there, I love crowded place as it builds up the happenings atmosphere.

Initially, I didn’t now where to eat, but just as I reached there, walked around the stalls twice, I didn’t know what to eat, there’s like so many choices and I wanted to try them all.

Due to budget constrain and want something different, I found this special Golden Claypot Curry Chicken or literally translated means A Bowl of Chicken Curry Per Person.

There’s 3 types, curry chicken + bread, curry chicken + white rice and curry chicken + nasi kunyit.

I ordered the Curry Chicken + Nasi Kunyit set. Nasi Kunyit is also known as the Tumeric Rice. I think it had been quite a long time I didn’t eat Nasi Kunyit, I only get to eat when there’s people give birth because it’s a kind of culture where the local Chinese will give relatives and friend nasi kunyit when they give birth.

The way of eating this is put a lot of the curry gravy on the rice to make it soft and not so sticky and the taste of curry and nasi kunyit blends well. I like this, the chicken meat was soft and the curry was not very spicy. This thing cost me RM5.50, it will be nice if it’s below RM5. Hehe.

I saw a lot of people bought the fried chicken thing, like fried chicken wing, fried drumstick at the fried chicken stall. It’s seems like something good, so I bought the fried chicken neck for RM2 to eat. Sounds unhealthy with so many friend things but I like fried stuff, though I would have to drink plenty of fluid.

I always wanted to go to Ingolf’s Kneipe, the German Restaurant to try out their long German sausages and some other German food and finally I got a chance to eat out at there already. Dad is not a fan of western food so there were only me, brother and mother.

There’s a lot of good feedback and review about this restaurant and this makes it another reason for me wanting to visit there.

It was a Friday night and the tables were already fully booked only left a few seats at the bar area on the first floor, since there’s no choice already, so we went for it.

When I see people drinking some special brewed beer at there, it’s quite tempting although I know nothing about, but then I am not ready for beer yet, under 18, it’s still not my thing.

It’s Friday and there’s no pork knuckles, their pork knuckles is one of their famous dish and only available on Wednesday, and needs reservation too.

Brother ordered a plate of squid ring with wasabi sauce as appetizer, very hot as in the temperature, the hotness and  the crispiness feels good with the creamy wasabi sauce.

Here comes main dish. This is brother’s pork’s belly, serves with salad and mash potato. After putting it into my mouth, I got to say that the taste is like Chinese’ sio bak (hokkien) / siu yok (cantonese) / shao rou (mandarin) or simply known as the roasted pork. The thing that is different is that it doesn’t has the crispy skin like the sio yok. You shouldn’t get rid of the fat part because it only will taste good when you eat with the meat.

Oh god, I’ve forgotten what was this called. This was mom’s and it’s pork (meat), serves with potato wedges and salad. I did try this and the special feel was that it’s different from Chinese-cooked pork, the meat was a little hard to bite and I don’t really favourite this dish.

Tadaaa, here come’s my dish. The German styled famous sausage dish that I’ve wanting to try a long time ago, the Currywurst. Wurst is actually means sausage in German, same thing with salad but french fries. Means that on the table, we got 3 types of potato made food.

Back to the sausage, there’s 2 of them and topped wtih a kind of sweet sauce, taste like tomato and sprinkled with curry powder ala western style. I like it, don’t think it’s spicy because of the word, curry, it’s pretty hard for me to describe the taste, there’s a little bit of pepper taste. The sausage was pork and only then I realized that pork sausage taste better than others.

I had a over-filled stomach after the dinner because I helped myself of mom’s dish too. It’s a place that I will visit again. As for the price, don’t expect to be cheap, dishes starts from RM25 and not very expensive if eating out once a fortnight or a month.

Hope that I got a chance to visit this restaurant in the future to try their real food instead of the course dinner’s food.

First out was always the standard 5/4 season, it was a FIVE season, there’s 5 different food. I always like the first dish that is out in a course dinner, because it’s always very hungry at that time. It’s a little bit special, different from so many that I had before, there’s satay, scramble egg ala Chinese style, kelabu, fried prawn, and another thing is like the dim sum’s Har Kao, but no one on the table really know what it was.

I’ll skip a few dishes. The second dish is always a soup, most of it probably is shark fins soup which has like 80 percent tang hoon (hokkien) /dong fen (mandarin), crab meat, other thing, a lot of MSG and 20 percent of shark fins.

There’s this Chicken cooked in herbal soup. This is a little bit special from what I’ve tried before at other place, the soup was more creamy with a lot of Chinese herbal ingredient. I don’t really like this because of the creamy soup, I prefer a more waterish herbal soup.

The fish was good, it’s some sort of fresh water fish, cooked with sour curry and tasted spicy.

At like 5th or 6th dish, there’s always the abalone with brocoli and mushroom. Abalone is an expensive food but then I don’t know whether it’s really abalone or not, there’s a lot of fake in the market. The only way for me to know it’s a real abalone is that the whole uncut cooked abalone is served. Then, for sure it’s not any imitation. =)

I don’t really like to eat prawn in a course dinner because I don’t want to get my hands dirty and I’m pretty lazy on taking off the prawn. The above right photo is the prawn-on-a-stick dish, the prawn shell had already taken off so it’s easier to eat. =) Not a bad one, quite nice.

Not last, but the one before the last dessert was the curry pork ribs with Chinese bun. I just tried a little bit as I was already feeling full at that time. The taste was a little bit weird because I believe there’s a lot of coconut milk used to cook the curry, I don’t like strong sense of coconut milk and so this was not my dish.

After all, I was fulled, some were good, some were not but the food portion were big for every dishes.

The Manila Place serves Asian and Western food, cakes and coffee. This was actually my 2nd visit to the restaurant ala cafe.

Getting into the food, me and brother ordered the set dinner which comes with a soup, main course, dessert and coffee. It’s always more reasonable than ordering it ala carte. Mom didn’t eat much, she just ordered the Soup In A Bun, which is one of their famous, mushroom soup filled in a dugged big bun. I think it’s just look pretty, after all it’s still the same mushroom soup that comes with my set dinner, except there’s lot of bread for you.

Salmon Steak was what I’ve ordered. Looking pretty with the food presentation, served with some potato wedges and some vegetable. When I say some, it’s really some, the portion was quite small and it’s not enough to fill the tummy of mine. The salmon feels kinda hard, they should have put in more gravy as it tasted rather tasteless to me.

Here is brother’s Sirloin Steak and looked good. He told me it’s good, I did not try it though. =)

Cakes are must have for birthday, so I ordered two slices of cake, one is a all time favourite, black forest and another is the coffee cheese cake. The cakes were not so sweet and it’s good, cakes that are very sweet are not good cake. I like the coffee cheese more.

Quite some time that I have not been to Chopper Board for meal. I was at Queensbay Mall last weekend and I was on tight budget, didn’t want to spend a lot on food and didn’t want to go to the food court neither, so Chopper Board was where I went for dinner. It’s in one of my budget-restaurant list.

After going through the menu, I saw this new Teriyaki Fish Rice the price is not over RM10, so I ordered it to try out. It gave me a surprise when it’s here because there’s only 5 little pieces of fish fillet and a big bowl of rice with the sweet teriyaki sauce and cost the same price as a plate of spaghetti bolognese that they serve. It’s just too little and I am not ordering this again.

I believe some of you may know about the recent promo by Sushi King lately. They are having the Unagi Time promotion until this weekend which is promoting all their Unagi food. I don’t really know about the pricing whether it’s expensive or not because I don’t really eat out at Sushi King a lot, Japanese food is always more than affordable to me.

Last weekend, I went to Sushi King and I did not go there purposely to try out the food on their Unagi Time menu. It was just a normal lunch, no idea where to eat and in the end went in to Sushi King.

Being a budget eater, I looked over the menu and found the most budget meal, the Unagi Omurice, for only RM8.90. It was lunch, I needed something to fill my stomach, was really very hungry that time and since there’s omurice, I ordered it.

Fried garlic rice wrapped in egg with 2 slices of little unagi. That’s really very budget. The rice was good but the slices of unagi were too thin, can’t really taste out the feel of unagi. The portion was quite small and I was not full after consuming it. So, I was forced to look for sushi on the moving belt.

By the way, if you or your friend have a Sushi King card, you get 10% of your bill. ^^
