Feeling a little regret, we moved on hoping to catch if there’s any more stall on the way to Teluk Bahang.

Then we spotted a big durian sign with “Eat Here” written on top of it. The main point is not on the RM1 Laksa but on the durian because it’s our durian trip and we’ve already had laksa at Balik Pulau before moving on. There’s RM1 laksa, very cheap, I think is a very small bowl, but then it’s not available on that day.

I don’t really know how to explain the location, it’s somewhere between the above the photo. It’s a big bungalow with Chinese kampung-style look, I guess you can spot the big “Durian Eat Here” thing outside.

I don’t know who is the owner of the house. He or she had the house beautifully painted and decorated, it’s so old school and look good at such a quiet place. It felts nyonya to me. There’s a little garden with table and chairs, for people to sit down and eat durian there.

There’s even a trishaw parked beside the house, I am not sure whether it’s for display or for personal use one. Very cool.

There’s a friendly uncle (not the owner of the house) who can help you to pick a nice durian for you. We ate like 6 durians there and I learnt some names too eg. Ang Hair, Honey, Bak You, Siam Zheng and a lot more which is in the local Hokkien dialect. Do ask for recommendation because I am not a pro in durian but I like the Honey type. It’s not very juicy and kinda sweet.

After eating, we bought home some durian for grandma too. Good place.

It’s my first time step foot into the Rasa Sayang Spa and Resort after its renovation a year ago. I heard good feedback from friends about the Spice Market Cafe, both look and food and finally I got a chance to try out.

That day was Sunday night and it’s an International Buffet. There’s some sort of promotion and so we got buy 1 free one which means we paid the price of 2 person for 4.

One thing, we went into the wrong entrance and we had a long walk from up to down to upper level again to the other side of the hotel where the Spice Market Cafe is.

The cafe has a good interior looking. The lights, the ambience and the way the present the food are fascinating and good.

It’s a n International Cuisine Buffet and there’s a lot a huge a variety of food to choose from. There’s Indian food, Japanese’ sushi and sashimi, cooked and cooled seafood, Italian pasta, Chinese food, western food, grilled sirloin and salmon, lots of cakes and desserts and the list goes on.

I did manage to try all the not-local food but not all the local food and too not all the cakes. There’s too many and my I didn’t really have much space in my tummy.

Unfortunately, there’s no raw oyster which I like. I did enjoy my meal though.

Frankly speaking, I am not a fan of buffet yet I still go for it. The reason is there’s too many choice at a buffet and it’s eat-all-you-can, it’s eating and taking all the time and you will be bloated after all and one thing, self-service. I prefer to be served and slowly enjoying the food instead of keep on taking and taking.

Yet, if you would like to bring me to a buffet, I will never reject your offer for it. Hehe. I love trying out for new food.

I didn’t intend to write about it as I didn’t bring my big camera along. I was not in a “feels like writing about it” mood too, but then I realised that I got a point and shoot camera in my pocket, so why not just taking some photos and share with what I’ve eaten there. =)

Gasoline Cafe is not only available in Penang but there’s a few outlets of it in Kuala Lumpur. The one in Penang Times Square is first in Penang though.

The cafe has a mediocre design, very weird and there’s dining area in a little cave.

They offer a wide variety of food, from local to western food, a lot of chicken and rices, a lot of local apertizers, a lot of very special beverage and more. There’s quite a lot of food in their menu and the food feels local too.

Check out the mineral water/sky juice, it’s RM3/RM1 and additional RM1 for lemon slice. That’s a stupid and I don’t like about this.

Brother ordered Thai Chicken (and) Rice, it’s just chicken cutlets with Thai chilli sauce. A very simple dish at RM6.90 per plate. Brother says it’s better to go for McDonald’s. Haha.

I got myself a plate of Portugese Chicken (and) Rice, RM6.90 too. This one is different a bit with more vegetable compare to the Thai Chicken Rice. I like the sauce, it’s not plain Thai chilli sauce but taste a bit like barbeque and Satay sauce. Not bad.

Here is a plate of Vietnamese Coke Fried Chicken. RM9.90 for 4 chicken wings. It sounds expensive, but then I like it. I don’t know how a Coke taste like, smells like roasted chicken but taste different with those hawker stall roasted chicken.

Gonna visit this place again in other time to try other food. Moreover, the pricing is not very expensive, so it’s a place for student like us.

Do you like Chicken Cordon Blu? Yes, I do a lot and in fact most of the time when I will order this when I came across this in the food menu.

One of the best (to me) Chicken Cordon Blu here in Penang is James Foo’s which is the western food at Fettes Park. Delicious! Do ask for extra cheese and it will be cheesy creamy when you cut open the chicken wrapping.

Two weeks ago, I went hiking with a bunch of schoolmates. When we reached the top of Penang Hill after 2 hours of hiking from Botanical Garden as the starting point, we had our breakfast at the food stalls there.

I ordered Ais Kacang (or known as Ice Kacang/ABC), it’s good to have something cold and cool after a long walk and it’s hot out there. There’s 3 stall of Ice Kacang, I recommend eating the one that the Malay sells, it’s nice. However, ask for less syrup because they put a lot into it which makes it very sweet.

I did not have any breakfast before hiking so I was very hungry when I got up there. I ordered a Nasi Goreng Kampung (Fried Rice in Malay Kampung style) from a Malay stall and this is good. It’s fried with ikan bilis (anchovy( and some vegetables. Delicious, or maybe I was hungry that time, but I still like it.

This was my first time eating the koay teow thng at Lebuh Kimberley a few days night ago. Dad says the stall at the corner of junction of Lebuh Kimberley and Lebuh Chulia existed there a long time ago. It sounds famous so we went to try it out.

It’s called Ah Hai’s Instant Cooked Kaoy Teow Thng. I got to know about this name from the little signboard at the corner of the five foot path.

It’s not duck meat like at 7 Road but it’s pork. There’s also tur kua (pig’s liver) in it which I dislike it a lot. I did actually ask for extra ingredient but I didn’t know that it’s so many. It’s a big bowl of koay teow thng and I felt so full after eating everything. Not to mention the extra fish ball soup that dad’s ordered.

The soup is clearer than the one at 7 Road but I prefer duck meat more. This is not a bad one too but the fish ball lose out a little bit comparing to the one at Armenian Street.

Just now, I went to have my dinner at 三条路/Sa Tiao Lor/3 Road or known as Lebuh Presgrave. It was a plate of fried rice, dad said that it’s nice so he brought me there to try out. My parents had already had their dinner so it was only me eating there.

If you guys know about the famous Hokkien Mee that sells late at night, then you will know where this fried rice stall is located at. It doesn’t only sell fried rice, but also fried koay teow. The coffee shop where this stall is located at the junction of Gat Lebuh Presgrave and Jalan C.Y. Choy.

I got to say that it’s nice, it’s maybe because that I was hungry that time but seriously, it’s good. It’s fried with duck egg instead of normal chicken egg which makes the rice more frangrance. There’s also a little spicy taste in the rice but just nice. There’s no need of balachan to eat with because the taste of this is already good.

I like it. =)

This is what mom has been busying with lately. Do and redo and redo. It’s a kind of dessert that you will find in Hong Kong, taste a bit like 双皮奶 (mandarin: shuang1 pi2 nai3, cantonese:sheong pei nai) but this homenade one, the taste of milk is not very strong. It’s steam egg with milk. It’s sweet. The first time when mom made it was not so smooth but there’s improvement right now.

This is now Chawan Mushi or Toufu. =)

Can you believe it? Last Sunday I went to 7 Road Market and it was my first time going to that place after so many years of living in Penang. Lebuh Cecil is more to be known as Qit Tiau Lor to the local or literally means 7th Road in English.

I was talking about food with my friends in school and one of them introduced me to try out the Duck Meat Koay Teow Thng. We got no idea where to eat for lunch on Sunday so I told dad, “Let’s go to 7th Road to eat Koay Teow Thng.” Dad droves us there.

Lebuh Cecil Market or 7th Road Market is a wet market with the food court behind the market. I was surprised to see there’s so many hawker stall at the food court. There’s so many choice of local hawker food to choose from and I didn’t know where to start. I told myself I will visit this place again and again.

First food to order was the Duck Meat Koay Teow Thng since everyone was telling me that it’s good. It’s not hard to try, you can easily spotted the big lighted stall with it’s lightbox on top.

Dad asked for extra ingredient. It’s all duck meat with duck’s blood too. I don’t like the duck blood but the meat is nice. I like the fishball too, it’s soft and I can say that it’s not from the supermarket. The soup is sweet enough but then the taste of pepper is a little bit strong. Lesser pepper powder will be good.

Mom’s lunch was a plate of Lam Mee. I didn’t try it because I am not a fan of Lam Mee. According to mom, she said it’s good as there’s so many ingredients.

Dad loves Pasembur, we did order a plate to try out too. Pasembur is a kind of local Indian salad with shreded cucumber, turnip, potatoes, beancurd, bean sprouts, prawn fritters. The prawn fritters were crunchy enough but somehow dad says Taman Free School’s is better.

Lastly, we got a bowl of Fu Zhou Fish Ball Soup. If you do not know what this is, this is actually a bowl of fish ball in soup with tang hoon. The fish ball is different from the Koay Teow Thng’s fish ball as this has meat in the balls and it’s huge too. The soup is sweet and this is better than Taman Free School’s though. Hehe.

There’s so many stall of hawker food and I’ll go and try other next time. Any recommendation from those who have visited before? =)

My mom’s friend invited us for a dinner there. It was quiet that night but it seems like it’s quiet all the time because every time I passed by, there’s not many customer in there. Wrong timing, perhaps. =)

Anyway, let’s get into the food.

She got herself a Unagi-don. The unagi fillet is nicely decorated with the sesame seeds which I feel it’s just decoration. The fillet tasted sweet but a little bit too dry. Didn’t feel amaze with what it is, it’s just Unagi. I’ll say bigger would be better.

I’ve forgotten to mention, the food was really express, it served after a few minutes we had ordered. I think the “Express” word on its name really got what it meant. I ordered a Tepanyaki Grilled Salmon. The waitress got me a plate of grilled salmon and I waited for the rice for a some times. Then I asked my rice, only then I knew she got my order wrong. She gave me a ala carte Grilled Salmon instead.

I insisted on the Tepanyaki Grilled Salmon because it comes with vegetable, miso soup and a rice. Unfortunately, the salmon fillet is down sized from the ala carte’s. I like the sauce on the salmon, the salmon is nice but it’s small. The miso soup was clear but I like it.

Overall, I feel the food tasted just normal, salmon was nice, unagi was normal. I didn’t felt WOW with the food. The price of food is just like any typical Japanese restaurant price. If the price go down to the “express food” price, then I’ll visit again. Cheer.
