Gary Spicer. The collection contains many photos, posters, balls and bats that have been autographed by legendary Tigers including Alan Trammell, Kirk Gibson, broadcaster Ernie Harwell and others.

We are also happy to host a lecture in our Heritage Room by Mr. Spicer at 7:30pm on Wednesday, Feb. 22. He will speak about his career working with professional athletes. The lecture will be followed by a question and answer session.

Mr. Spicer has served as corporate legal counsel for a number of professional athletes and entertainers. He served as an at-large member of the Adrian College Board of Trustees from 1982 through 1994.

He was a member of the following committees during his tenure on the board:

Academic Affairs Committee, 1982-1994

Institutional Advancement Committee, 1982-1994

Finance Committee, 1982-1987

Strategic Planning Committee, 1987-1992

Adrian College awarded Mr. Spicer an honorary Doctor of Laws degree in 2002. He was inducted into the Adrian College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996.

In total, there are five full cases of Tigers memorabilia. Stop by and see this impressive collection. It’s only a few short weeks until spring training 2012 and another great chance for a Tigers World Series run!

The exhibit is open during regular library hours through February.

Carly’s inspiration for her show comes from trees. “To me the message of a tree varies so much, between growth, change and family there are so many different meanings…” Trees can represent many aspects in a person’s life and Carly’s work explores these with a creative spark and passion.

The show is open during regular library hours through Friday, January 27. We hope you stop by and have a look!

Nathan has done a considerable amount of work researching his family and has presented a detailed family tree going back several generations, along with photos and historical documents.

A focus of his research involves the Civil War, with ancestors fighting on both the Union and Confederate sides. In fact, several of his ancestors began the war as Confederates, but switched to the Union side at some point during the war.

The quality of this independent research is impressive. Please stop by the library to see for yourself. The exhibit will run during regular library hours through Nov. 11.

Works by Adrian College alumna and Lenawee County native Sarah Kandell-Gritzmaker will be on display in the Adrian College’s Shipman Library (Nicolay Heritage Room) Wednesday, January 12, through Friday, February 4. Kandell-Gritmaker graduated in 2006 with a B.F.A. in Art.

A self-described rock hound, Kandell-Gritmaker grew up visiting geologic landmarks and significant fossil sites in North America. In the work on display, ceramic sculpture hides fragments of text on and within forms inspired by geology. These serve as a metaphor for the disparity between private emotional states and public personas.

However, it is these unrevealed realities that often carry the most emotional weight…I transfer documents, journal writings, planner pages, and other personal information relating to the natural disorder of life onto geometric and tightly arranged clay surfaces.”

Her personal texts and ephemeral internal life become fixed in the clay; there, they invite viewers not only to discover them but to free associate from their own emotional lives and experiences. Her delicate, fragile forms often group into suspended networks with complex shadows, suggesting another duality of appearances and external reality.

Shipman Library is located on the Adrian College campus off of Williams Street. The exhibition is open during library hours: Monday-Thursday, 8:00am-11:00pm; Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm; Saturday, 10:00am-5:00pm and Sunday, noon-11:00pm. For library information, call (517) 264-3828.
