The Sai Baba Temple @ Shirdi has a staff of 3,000 people to manage Darshan, Security, as well as the Sai Prasadalaya. Some of them have been with the Shirdi Sansthan for almost 30 years, having risen from the rank of clerk or peon, holding just a graduate's degree at best.

The mental wear and tear that results from managing one crore devotees annually has been taking a toll on this 3,000-strong staff of the Sai Baba Temple`Shirdi. Devotees too have often suggested that the Shirdi Temple staffers need to acquire People Management Skills.

The Shirdi Sai Trust itself recognizing this fact has now, for the first time ever, devised a corporate-style "Evangelization" program for senior employees to address this issue. The Trust is now determined to impart professional training & soft skills to its staff on a regular basis.

The Shirdi Shrine has 165 personnel, who function as watchmen and have never acquired job skills. So, within the next few weeks, a special batch of 45 Security-men of the Sai Baba Temple will get their first training lesson at the Police Training Academy in Nashik`Maharashtra.

Also, recently, Human Resource professionals from top-notch corporate companies like Coke, Raymonds, Taj Group & Aditya Birla Financial Services conducted a day-long workshop for 250 Sai Temple employees in the Temple's dining hall itself. This was the first time that the Shirdi Sai Baba Temple employees ever had corporate professionals addressing them.

The Organizers 'Universal Management Forum' likened the Temple to a Mall that must provide "Customer delight, not merely Satisfaction". It was said that the "Temple was a Firm whose product was Sai Baba", and that the devotees were actually customers, with one important difference and that was that they came in times of distress & need.

While speaking on Team engagement & value systems, it was said that the Shirdi Sansthan was unique in that, it was not a hospitality chain but yet welcomed lakhs of guests with their USP - a Saint whose ideology touches millions of devotees. The Sai Temple Management was advised to blend corporate practices in its day-to-day operations and to cultivate a people-centric approach.

Late night around 10:00 pm on Thursday 03rd Feb`2011, just outside the VIP Entrance (Gate No.1) of the Shirdi Sai Baba Temple, a man from Malegaon was assaulted with knives by five unidentified assailants who had come in a rickshaw. The cause for this lethal attack is not yet known but the cops suspect the victim to be a member of some criminal gang and so was attacked by his rivals, due to some enmity in-between them. But in-spite of a few police-men on duty at the Temple Gate, the assailants managed to flee from the scene.

Shirdi Sai Baba equally blesses all his devotees and never differentiates between them on any grounds, be it Religion, Status, Saints or Sinners. Also if & only when anyone is called by Baba for his Darshan, then only can that person make it to Shirdi !!!

So recently, a Wanted Convict too, was called by Sai Baba for Darshan at Shirdi.

It so happened that, this convict, wanted by the Uttar-Pradesh Police was caught & arrested in Karnataka, India. While being escorted back to Lucknow`Uttar Pradesh, the handcuffed Convict expressed his desire to have Sai Baba's Darshan at Shirdi on their way. The policemen agreed to his request
and decided to make a brief stop at Shirdi`Maharashtra en-route to Lucknow`U.P.

The Maharashtra Govt is all set to totally change the face of Shirdi & make it into a world class Pilgrimage plus Tourist Spot, for which, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has revived its six-year-old Shirdi development plan and is planning to construct a 3-5 Star Hotel, a Promenade, Skywalks and Parking lots in the city which attracts more than eight lakh pilgrims on a day on any auspicious occasion.

The Shirdi Sai Temple Trust manages the 5-6 acres of land surrounding the place of worship. Now, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) will undertake a massive makeover within a 3 km circumference around the Temple land.

MSRDC had floated Rs.450-crore infrastructure development plan for Shirdi in 2005, which had been lying dormant for 6 years. MSRDC, however, has now called for Expression of Interest (EOI) from various parties and held a meeting with infrastructure and real estate players to kick-start the programme.

The Project will be build on a BOT (Build Operate Transfer) model where the operator creates the infrastructure and returns the project back to the government after recovering his cost.

MSRDC will be awarding a contract with the condition that the town has to be developed along the lines of the Vatican City. Tenders will be published in March`2011. The Shirdi SaiBaba Sansthan has studied the Traffic & Crowd management model of 10 Indian Pilgrimages and 3 International Pligrimages - Jerusalem, Mecca & the Vatican City. It finally decided to go ahead with the Vatican city based model for Shirdi.

Many devotees now prefer to ring in the New Year at some Holy place and or with their Guru. With this desire, around 3 lakh devotees reached Shirdi to be in the company of their beloved Baba for New Years Eve, for which the Sai Sansthan had kept Baba's Samadhi Temple open the full night on 31st to enable the devotees to have Darshan. So, this New Years Eve Sai Baba also did not sleep as lakhs of devotees had lined up for his Darshan. Bhajan Kirtan continued through out the night and so there was no Shayan Aarti or the Kakad Aarti of Baba, on January 1,2011. Many devotees came walking all the way to Shirdi carrying Sai Palkis with them.

The Famous Pilgrim centre of Shri Sai Baba Temple in Shirdi, one of the richest temples in Maharashtra, has Ornaments and Jewellery worth over Rs.32 crore (Rs.320 million) and Investments running into Rs.4,27,17,02,929 (Rs 420.17 crore), according to official documents.

The Administration of Shri Sai Baba Sansthan Trust (Shirdi), governed by the Managing Committee which was constituted by the Maharashtra Government way back on 23rd August`2004 has:

1) Kisan Vikas Patras worth Rs. 51,71,00,100 (Rs 51.71 crore),
2) Government of India 8% Saving Bonds amounting to Rs. 48,15,53,000 (Rs 48.16 crore),
3) Irredeemable Bonds of Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran worth Rs. 8 crore (Rs 80 million)
4) Rs. 3,19,30,49,929 (Rs 319.30 crore) in various nationalised banks.
5) It has Rs.47,82,31,835.64 (Rs 47.82 crore) as Trust Corpus Fund.

On 25th Dec`2010 Christmas Day, around 1.5 lakh devotees visited Shirdi and took Baba’s Darshan after waiting in Queues for more than 4 hours.

This festive season, it is a big relief for devotees because of the proper arrangements made by the Shirdi Sai Sansthan. Almost 50,000 devotees took benefit of the subsidized lunch in the new Sai Prasadalaya on Christmas day itself. Traffic of heavy vehicles is being diverted from Nagar-Kopargaon Road. Officers & Staff of Police & RTO are on the road through out the day to manage the traffic.

PALANPUR: A 5 kg Idol of Shirdi Sai Baba, estimated to be worth Rs 50,000/- and made from five metals (panch dhatu), has been stolen from a Temple about 3kms from Vadnagar in Mehsana district of Gujarat`India. A complaint in this connection has been filed by Shri.Mukund Mehta, a resident of Vrudhashram Sarvajanik Sewa Trust, Ahmedabad. Mehta has stated in his complaint that an Idol of Sai Baba is missing from the Temple, located on the premises of the ashram, since Thursday 23rd Dec night.

Indian Miniature artistes have been known for creating marvels of Art on themes largely related to historical or mythological characters since ages. Gajendra Suryakant Wadhonkar of Aurangabad uses this captivating Art form to promote brotherhood and respect for different religions. Born at Hazur Sahib in Nanded (Maharashtra) in 1978, Gajendra does Scribbling & Painting on Grains of Rice, Sesame and Mustard.

Now, lately he has started writing Shirdi Sai Baba's complete "Shri Sai Satcharitra" on Grains of Rice. Originally, he had planned to write this 3 years back but it was only now during his trip to Shirdi recently, that he felt inspired and blessed by Baba to go ahead and scribble the entire holy text on Grains of Rice. Around 30 lakhs of individual Rice Grains will be needed to scribble the complete 725 pages of "Shri Sai Satcharitra" for which Gajendra will have to put in around 7 to 8 hours of work per day to complete the entire book. He also aims to get his name registered in the Guinness Book of World Records & the Limca Book of World Records for his achievement.

Gajendra said that it all began almost nine years ago when he was helping with the household chores in the kitchen. He just picked up a Grain of Rice and scribbled his Mother's name on it. He started writing with bristled-paint brush and soon he felt drawn to this style after writing names of his Father & Goddess too, on Rice. His Family members and friends appreciated it and exhorted him to pursue it.

SHIRDI: Work on the Shirdi airport project, which is coming up on 400 hectare land at Kakadi village, 11 km from Shirdi, is progressing at a fast pace. The airport is expected to become operational by December 2011.

Officials of the state government-owned Maharashtra Airport Development Company said, 60 per cent work on the runway has been completed. It will be fully ready by March next year. The Single Runway will be 60 meters wide & 2,000 metres long. Construction of a 10-ft high, 11-km boundary wall has also been taken up. A two-lane road from Shirdi to the airport is also being constructed.

And within a months time itself, these China made photographs of Shirdi Sai Baba's, which are made using 3D technology have captured the major share of Mumbai's Market.

These "Made in China" photographs are selling like hot cakes owing to the fact that apart from being made in China, they are beautifully designed and are very economically priced too. But Mumbai's Local shopkeeper's are not happy with these low priced "Made in China" 3D photographs of Sai Baba entering Mumbai's Market, as, their sales of such locally made Sai Baba's photographs have dropped down drastically.
