The Rainy Day Designer Needs Your Vote

We recently got a request from one of our readers to help bring awareness to his design at Uneetee. Although Shirts on Sale is not a platform for that kind of dialogue, this sideblog provides an excellent venue for such a conversation. Read Troy's explanation of what he hopes to accomplish with this shirt design and vote if you support his work and/or motives.

Three years ago in high school my teacher told me something I wish I had listened more closely to. He told us, “you might be an artist person and enjoy it very much but you have to realize that not all talented people get paid.” Three years later I am living through that exact scenario.

This is not the life and times of a famous person. This is not the work of a lifetime. This is my realization. I am just one person trying to have some imprint on life.

Firstly I don't consider myself to be less fortunate. I have lived life to its fullest as we all try. I am a college graduate who can no longer live by the concept of just covering my expenses. Living this way will stress those you love and you will always have something looming over you like bills, but worse then anything is the thought of failing.

From one designer who is struggling to live or rather living to struggle. I want to pass on the advice that no diploma can guarantee your happiness and fulfilling your passion won't always cover your expenses. You have to learn early on that you will have to give and take to survive.

I would like to ask for your help but want people to understand why I need the help. I have entered into the Uneetee.com T-shirt design contest. The grand prize for winning is $1500. I don't want to win just for the money. Yes, it would be a huge relief and help get me off my feet but more than that I want proof that I can succeed as an artist. To know that my work doesn't just get passed over.

I understand as an artist that I haven't reached my full potential yet but I am still young and learning as I go. That is why I need your help most of all. The choices I make now may decide whether I can continue to be an artist or if I have to give in and admit defeat. I am not afraid of losing the contest, but I am afraid of losing faith in myself as an artist.

Please help support me and show the world that even a rainy day designer can see the light of day again.

We just got a note from a reader looking for this fake abs shirt worn by Jack Black at Sundance last year and criticized by Andy at Hide Your Arms.

I've searched high and low for this t-shirt (on the Google) and only came up with the most disgusting fake chest tshirt in the world (make sure you're sitting down before you click that link) and a paltry Zazzle alternative.

Lots of people at TMZ are also looking for this shirt. I know that you're a more resourceful lot than those celebrity-loving underachievers. Please let us know if you've seen this shirt available in a store or online.

20 Worthless Pieces of Junk You Buy

The kids at Walletpop have put together an interesting list of worthless junk they think people should avoid and the Consumerist people have conveniently taken their annoying slideshow and condensed it to a single list.

Although we agree with almost everything on the list, don't take away our rice cookers! We thought about arguing for the shoe inserts too, but maybe they are just a waste.

And thankfully they pull back on their recommendation to avoid Polaroid Cameras. They appreciate the artistic appeal of this unique medium and probably regret that they added it in the first place, but couldn't think of something better to take its place.

Wise Bread, a website that hasn't yet made it to our feed reader, put out a recent article that highlights thirteen of their favorite money-saving websites. Of course we're sad that Shirts on Sale didn't make the list, but we understand that people --silly, silly people-- still see inexpensive boutique t-shirts as a limited-audience sort of pursuit.

We use most of these in our regular deal hunting, but there were a few new sites as well:

One of our beloved former interns, Lyndsey Lesh, recently designed the shirt “Music Mountain” during her stay here at Beautiful/Decay. Tattoos, which have been around since pre-historic man, may have lost some of their "market share" thanks the invention of the much more malleable, extensible and safe t-shirt as self-identifier but that doesn't mean they're getting replaced anytime soon. 1 Step to Bulk-Add Images to Blogger Posts

We've heard the complaint that you can't batch upload photos to Google's Blogger, but nothing could be further from the truth...as long as you're willing to use Firefox. Not only can you bulk-upload many files, you can do it in one easy step every time!

First thing you need to do is get the DragDropUpload add-on. This add-on allows you to "drop files into attachment boxes instead of browse for them or type in the filename. Drop multiple files and fill all the entries."

It's the second part of that explanaition that makes working with Blogger and images easy as pie. Once you install this and restart Firefox you're ready to rumble.

Whenever you want to upload photos, just click the "Add Image" icon in the Blogger editor. While that pop-up is doing its pop-up thing, navigate to the folder where you pictures are and highlight all the images you want to add to your post. Now click and drag those images into the input box next to the "Browse..." button.

That's it! You're on the precipice of achieving image-adder's bliss.

Now when you click the "Upload Image" button Blogger will automagically upload all of the images you highlighted. Don't worry if it doesn't look like they're all there at first, Google just hides the input boxes with your file names initially. If you click the "Add another image" link, you should see that the keeps on going beyond the initial eight displayed.

Everyone's a T-shirt Designer in the Future

As you'll see from the video below, although it might be possible, strike that...It is highly probable that we'll all be designing our own t-shirts in the future, but that doesn't mean we have to be any good at it.

The interface here, using the power of Microsoft's Surface, is amazingly easy. I love how the drag and drop automatically crops to the t-shirt. Beyond that, why not let you choose whether or not you'd like the print to wrap around your t-shirt for an extra fee?

Watching this it's not hard to imagine a future where we "grab" elements from our environment, including inspiration from what others are wearing around us, and create a new t-shirt or wardrobe on our future iPhone that immediately gets produced in an automated factory located halfway around the world but could still be in our hands within half a day.

I've seen the future, and it's going to look very interesting.
