Wow, it’s been a while since the last post. I do apologize as it’s been a crazy busy summer. We did finally get a chance to take a break and have a mini vacation. We chose to head to the San Juan Islands. It was a great, needed, relaxing trip. Here are a few shots from the trip….

Twilight Criterium

There are very few things that get me going like a good crit. There’s action, danger, excitement, and really there’s nothing I enjoy more when it comes to cycling. The Tour is great, but I’d take a crit any day.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Boise’s Twilight Criterium. It’s a Boise tradition at it’s very best. If you’ve never been put it on your calendar now as it’s so worth it. This years race was was one of the best yet. There was everything from great strategy, to fast paced pelotons, to brutalcrashes.

I was up early today to make a photo that has been on my mind for some time now. However, that photo isn’t what I’m writing this post for. This post is for another photo that I think you’ll enjoy simply because it’s fun. While I was out, I happened to come across the opportunity to make a GIANT panoramic of downtown Boise Idaho so I did what any photographer would have done, I went for it.

Normally I don’t post huge images, but I’ve made an exception for this one. Right click on the image above and choose “Open in a new window” to get a giant version… Warning, it’s large and might take a minute or two to download, but it’s kind of fun. What is even more crazy, the image linked above isn’t the original, it’s about 5x smaller than the original…

What’s even more fun – here is a 100% view of a small portion of the above, so you can tell how large the original image actually is.

Micah & Kim | Wedding

We had the extreme pleasure of joining Micah and Kim last weekend for one of the wildest weddings we’ve attended. This wedding party was a group of close friends and it was very evident that they knew how to have a good time. It was so much fun to watch and to shoot.

Kim and Micah, I apologize that that your preview was a little slow. We had a computer glitch (don’t worry your photos are absolutely safe) that delayed our post. We had so much fun with you two and thank you again for having us be a part of your day. Congratulations!!! We hope you enjoy.

E’Session | Kim and Micah

It is my pleasure to introduce you all to Kim and Micah. We spent yesterday afternoon making engagement photos and hiding from rain clouds with this perfect pair. You want to talk about creative? Kim and Micah wanted to visit the Old Idaho State Penitentiary for part of their session and then it was on to Boise Linen district for some cool urban shots. We had a blast with these two and amazingly enough the weather held the entire time.

Photo Walk

We had a good weekend here at SJP. We spent some time redesigning the blog. For the most part functionality should be the same as it ever was, but it’s been rebranded to match our main website better, improve navigation, and hopefully it’s a little more pleasing on the eyes than the old design. I haven’t had a chance to test it in any of the old(er) I.E. browsers, but it’s working well in IE8, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome. If you’re using and older IE and the page looks strange, don’t hesitate to drop me a line so I can get it fixed (see the new Contact Us link in the navigation in the upper right hand side of the page).

I also spent some time in downtown Boise with some friends on a little photo walk. The unofficial theme for the day was urban abstract. Weather was a bit on the chilly side, but we had a good time and all came away with some nice photos. Here’s a preview from the day.

2011 Aire Product Catalog

Wow, it’s been a while. I apologize for the absence. It’s been a bit of a zoo around this place (which is a good thing). I wanted to take just a minute to update you with some of the going ons around here.

First, I’d like to tell you about our exciting news. We made the back cover of the 2011 Aire product catalog. If you spend any time on the river, you’ll be familiar with Aire/Outcast. They make whitewater rafts and inflatables. Great boats and people!

We have also had a successful pre-wedding season. Our wedding spots are starting to fill up. If you’ve been looking for a wedding photographer for the 2011 season, get a hold of us before our season is all booked up. Remember, we only shoot 12 weddings a year…

Donny and Krista | Wedding

There is nothing so glorious as a beautiful fall day. October in the Treasure Valley is truly a splendid and wonderious thing. The only thing that can make it better is a when the weather cooperates and there’s a wedding at the Idaho Botanical Gardens. This past weekend was one of those amazing fall days where everything comes together to make for a wedding that will be talked about for years to come.

We had the pleasure of spending Saturday with Donny and Krista for what can only be described as a fairy tale wedding. The fall colors and plants in the Gardens were absolutely amazing and complimented the the wedding party perfectly.

Donny and Krista, thank you so much for having us be a part of your celebration and amazing day. We had so, so much fun with you two and your friends and family. It has been so much fun watching you guys over the past few years fall in love and arrive at where we are today. Alena and I are over joyed that you two have found each other. A huge congratulations to you both!!!

Art in the Park – Reminder

Just wanted to say happy Labor Day and to remind you of a classic Boise event coming up next weekend. Art in the Part will be held in Julia Davis Park here in Boise over the weekend of September 10th – 12th. While you’re there make sure to visit my good friend Josh Udesen of Tightline Studio. Josh is an artist in every sense of the word from his paintings, to pencil drawings, to his ability to throw the prettiest fly line around. He is a 2011 Patagonia featured artist. Patagonia will be releasing a number of shirts and different gear that will feature some awesome fish paintings by Josh. The item of special note is the 2011 World Trout Initiative T-shirt. Go buy a painting from him next weekend before he’s super famous and you can’t afford one. :-) Enjoy your long weekend and be safe out there.

Main Salmon River | Rafting

This past week we were counted among the fortunate that had the privilege of spending 81 miles on the Main Salmon River. This Idaho River is rich in history. The banks are littered with old cabins and every rapid has a story of trials and hardships for those that paved the way and tamed this great river.

The flows were fantastic, the river was peaceful, and I got some much needed R&R. All play and no photography isn’t right, so of course the camera accompanied me on this journey. I now have the good fortune to be able share the photos of a very remote place. This has to be one of my favorite rivers for a late season float. The relaxing water and remote location really make a trip to remember…

E’Session | Donny and Krista

Spent the evening with a super fun couple: Allow me to introduce Donny (the Don) and Krista to you all. We met up in Boise’s North End. After a little neighborhood time and a walk with the dogs through Camel’s Back Park and the foot hills we migrated to the Hyde Park Pub for a quick photo (where they had their first date) and a cold one. Talk about an evening well spent.

Donny and Krista, thank you for the wonderful evening (and for introducing us to buffalo chips). We had such a great time. The photos from this evening are going to be fantastic, but you don’t have to take my word for it because here’s your sneak peek…. P.S. that last photo is MY favorite (I think it needs to be your Christmas card). Congratulations, we are excited for you two.

River of No Return

There are few things in life that can be as healing and as nurturing as spending time with nature. In just a few short days I have the good fortune to be spending a week on the Main Salmon River. We will float 84miles from Corn Creek (near Salmon Idaho) to Vinegar Creek (near Riggins, Idaho). On the river, time moves slower. The river has no place to be and it can not be rushed, pushed, scheduled, or put on any agenda. Camera will be in tow and I can not wait… And because no post is complete without a photos:

This photo was made on the Snake River in the summer of 2007. The river burned on both sides for most of the 40 mile stretch of river that is typically floated (Battle Creek Complex and Poe Cabin fires). We ended up having to take a jet boat back to the dam because of the take out was on fire and access had been restricted to fire crew only.
