First off....Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I just got home from my sister Courtney's house and my stomach is full and happy. I am really grateful for sweat pants right now. My mom and sister spent all day nurturing the 25 pound turkey for the family. My sister Lara spent hours making Ambassador pie and all I had to bring was the BLT dip, which by the way is a crowd pleaser and with only 4 ingredients....well even a child could make it. Now I'm wondering if that is why it was assigned to me.......hmmmm. The meal was delicious and lots of laughs were had during our time together. I am so thankful for my family and friends. I hope you all had a wonderful day as well!

And since Bob is watching Angels and Demons in the other room (no interest here) I thought I'd sneak in a quick post about the super cute stockings we are bringing in tomorrow. Now that the big open house weekend is over we have more room to bring in additional one of a kind and vintage Christmas items. I plan on unpacking goodies throughout the weekend at MMHG.

Check out these funky hand crocheted stockings. I love the traditional with a twist color and pattern. Right up my alley they are. Alas, I must let them go to some other home because my Christmas decor is starting to need a storage room all it's own. Some for me and some for you. That's what I tell myself as I divvy up my Holiday finds. Sharing is good for the soul. I love it when you come into the store and get as excited by a vintage find as I did when I first found it. Makes me happy.

The Giving Tree For Safe Passage

Hello Friends. Just wanted to let you know that this year we are hosting "Giving Trees" to benefit the women and children currently working with Safe Passage of DeKalb County.

At both Moxie and MMHG we have a little tree set up which is filled with the first names and ages of moms and their kids. You simply pick a name or two off the tree and bring a present back for them to either store by December 15th unwrapped. We pass them back along to Safe Passage.

If you are unfamiliar with Safe Passage here is their mission statement as posted on their website.

Mission Statement:

It is the mission of Safe Passage to reduce or prevent domestic violence and sexual assault in DeKalb County. This will be accomplished in the following ways:

providing immediate safety, supportive services and transitional assistance to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault;
providing responsible, appropriate, and effective services to perpetrators of violence;
promoting community awareness of the causes and effects of domestic violence and sexual assault;
effecting changes in the laws and practices that perpetuate domestic violence and sexual assault.

I'm not a thankful cookie. Although once some guy on the street called me cracker. I am however very very grateful that so many of you came to our Holiday Open House Yesterday. We had a great time seeing you all and can't wait to do it all again today. Stop in for cookies and cider or hot chocolate. 10 to 4 today!

Look What Bob Made For Me

My vintage shoe buying had spiraled out of control in recent months. I think in the month of September alone I bought one hundred pairs of them. So cute and so much fun. How could I leave them behind. Problem was....how to display so many at one time in a space efficient manor. I took my problem to Bob and voila....this is what he made for me. And believe it or not it was made in about an hour with parts he found in the back room. He made me a shoe wall. Now that's a gift that keeps on giving. Thanks Bob!

A couple of days ago I mentioned that in honor of our 10 year anniversary at Megan Morrison Home and Garden we were going to be giving away a little festive something to the first 50 customers who spent 20 dollars or more at the Holiday Open House on Saturday.

We really hope you can make it to the party. Bob's making his famous (in his mind everything he makes is famous) chocolate chip cookies. I'm making my grandma mimi's Swedish Butterballs, Desa is making oodles of cookies and Courtney is making up a bunch of the Wind and Willow cheeseballs for your sampling pleasure. Merry Mischief Maker

The other day I was out in my photography studio (in truth my front porch) doing some work. Wherever I go diet coke cans are sure to be found. I always mean to pick up after myself but sometimes I forget. So I ran off to do some errands and when I came back and finally got around to cleaning up my debris, I was quite shocked to find a little embellishment on my diet coke.

There it was. A tiny little head with a quizzical almost shocked look on its face. I'm not 100% sure but I think it was saying to me, " You'll never change will you? That's ok. We (I'm still not sure who was in cahoots with the head) still like you." I looked around the yard and back at the can for awhile. I was sure someone was about to pop out of the bushes and take claim for my new little friend but no one did. No one at my house is taking credit for it so either I have a really mischievous ghost hanging around or someone who lives with me or visits often is not fessing up. Either way, that little head really made my day. Because I love tiny things and I love things with faces and I really love mischief. Kudos mischief maker. Score one for you.

One For You and Two to Share

One day this summer as I was digging thru some random cedar trunk in some cute random house I stumbled upon some small pieces of the cutest fabric ever. It had teeny tiny trees and happy little stars on it. I was mesmerized by the sheer tiny cuteness of it all when I realized that I wasn't just holding fabric remnants in my hands but instead the fixins to make three aprons. Uh huh! You know I did that little squeal I do when I find something I really like. My heart was happy and sad all at the same time. Happy to find the parts to make three coordinating aprons and sad because the lady of the house cut it all up and kept it safe for 40 yrs but sadly never found the opportunity to put them all together.

Well that is what vintage girls are good for. We rescue the things people kept around for decades and pass them along to new homes before they get thrown out by future generations who don't appreciate old apron parts like some of us. It is a job I was born to do. I don't have to own it myself but I sure do like finding these things a happy new home.

So I'm thinking.....the pieces to make 3 matching yet different aprons. How cute for 3 sisters, or a mom and 2 daughters, or mom, grandma and grand daughter. Well obviously you get the point. 3 aprons equals 3 times the apron fun. Now all you have to do is sew them up. They were a kit of some sort and will require only simple sewing knowledge. Knowledge I myself do not possess. I did my part, I found them and brought them into MMHG. Now they await a new home. Will it be you who gives them a chance to be the aprons they were always meant to be?? Let's wait and see.
