Last month was the 100th anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire, which killed 146 garment workers. To commemorate this tragedy Gabrielle Karras created a project about contemporary garment workers.

These turtlenecks were purchased in Portland, Oregon at Goodwill but were made in Nicaragua. Karras embroidered information about the typical wage of factory workers in Nicaragua on the garment and then reintroduced or “shopdropped” them back into the Goodwill where they were bought.

Tweaks, updates, and images

Updates to the site layout and structure in the past few days. Changes include the addition of an extensive images section and the resizing of the site to fit the 980 960 pixel standard. It can take along time to go back and update ALL of your old work to bring it up to speed with your new skills and knowledge. As of now, the shopdropping.net site should be completely iPhone/iPad compatible and mostly mobile compatible as well. Still need to adjust some things for older mobile browsers and there are still some old posts in the blog with Flash-based image galleries.
