Now we’re planning a visioning session called “Voices for Visioning” on Saturday, May 10. At this session, leaders from all four neighborhoods will discuss the current state of our neighborhoods, and will develop a shared vision for common themes such as safety, commercial revitalization, housing development and affordability, vacant property and ownership, greening, infrastructure and mobility, and family living. At the end of this session, neighborhood leaders will have an opportunity to volunteer to work together over the next several months to create an action plan to achieve the shared vision.

Almost two years in the making, the BDC and our volunteers along with Mayor Ravenstahl’s Redd Up and Green Up Teams, Pittsburgh Public Works, the URA and Pomme de Terre are looking forward to making one of Bloomfield’s Gateways bloom!

To get your hands dirty and help with the planting, come to the Bloomfield Bridge at Liberty Avenue on Saturday, April 14 at 9 a.m. We will provide you with tools, gloves, coffee, a light breakfast and the satisfaction of turning what was once a space filled with Belgian block, weeds and litter into beautiful green space!

The Mayor will be stopping by at 10 a.m.

Natalia, his Romanian-born mother, and Ambimbola, his Nigerian-born father, are working fast to pour their strengths and stories into him, even as fateful events have separated the family.

New York Playwright Zadravec became familiar with our town and some of the most wonderful things it offers after her own, real-life baby became ill. The family was sent to our Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, where their son receives ongoing treatment for a rare condition by Children’s Dr. Geoffrey Kurland.

The Board finds the classification of LA Fitness to be appropriate as the facility in question is much more akin to other Recreation Center, such as Urban Active, that have received the same classification. Therefore, the Board rejects the protest appeal.

Decision: The Appeal of the Zoning Administrator’s determination as to the qualification of use as  ”Indoor Recreation” (General) is hereby DENIED.

But like any organization, we find that our roles, responsibilities and tasks are expanding, and in some areas we need more bodies, experience and time.

Many of you may be new to the community, and in some cases your stay may be temporary (students). This could be an opportunity for you to develop business skills, people skills, and help make Bloomfield a community to stand tall with other surrounding areas.

We are looking for volunteers (yes volunteers, sorry) that can commit at least five hours a month, who can bring fresh eyes and ideas to our organization. We need these new ideas but we need the people who can help implement them.

There are many areas we need to focus on, and we need the active involvement of individuals who can commit their time and energy.

With this in mind, we are holding a community outreach meeting on January 30 at 5:30. The location will be held in Bloomfield and determined by the number attending.

If you feel that you can contribute your time and be involved in these activities and other events, please RSVP to Terry@bloomfieldnow.com by 7 p.m. on Friday, January 27. If you are interested but cannot attend, please forward your thoughts and ideas along with your name and contact information.
