The Zonta Club of Muntinlupa & Environs (ZCME) is holding its annual fundraising event on November 3 and 4, 2012 (Saturday and Sunday), from 8AM to 8PM at the Cuenca Covered Court in Ayala Alabang Village, Muntinlupa City. Featuring a festive Indian theme, the Bollywood Madness Bazaar is inspired by India’s vibrant colors, attractive ethnicity, exotic cuisine, and the global emergence of Bollywood movies.

“After the highly successful Moroccan bazaar last year, we want to reinforce the iconic branding of our annual fundraiser,” explains Nancy Harel, Public Relations Officer of ZCME. “A different theme each year allows us to differentiate our bazaar from all the others.”

Established in 1988, ZCME is composed of professional women working together to elevate the state of marginalized women and children in the city of Muntinlupa. Through the organization’s various projects, issues such as education, politics, health, and economics are addressed, thereby empowering women to become contributing and productive members of the society.

The annual 2-day bazaar aims to raise funds needed for the Club’s numerous community service projects. Two major beneficiaries of this event are SAGIP (Saklolo at Gabay ng Ina at Pamilya), a 24-hour crisis response center for abused women and children of Muntinlupa and TDZ (Tulong Dunong ng Zonta), a high school scholarship program granted to underprivileged but intelligent young girls in the city.

Participating at the bazaar is Republiq of Asia, who will offer its selection of handmade clothes, jewelry, accessories, and home furnishing. Some of these fair trade products are directly sourced from all over Asia, Australia, and Europe.Another participant to look out for is Silnag, a local company that sells native hand-crafted jewelry made from sustainable indigenous materials.

The Bollywood Madness Bazaar is made possible through the generosity of YKK Philippines, Pioneer Insurance, Hans Brumann Jewelry, Bay &HecSenares Gasoline Station (PHOENIX), Graman Fashion, EJ Litton Foundation, and Crocs Philippines.

Through the years, Amway made some improvements. Dr. Phil Sliva, Senior Research Scientist and Chemist/Home Care Product Development for Amway, came all the way to the Philippines to discuss the BioQuestTM Formula that his team has developed in such diverse products like LOC Multi-Purpose Cleaner (formerly Frisk), DISH DROPS Dishwashing Liquid, and SA8 laundry products (namely SA8 Premium Concentrated Laundry Powder Detergent and SA8 Concentrated All Fabric Bleach).

Dr. Sliva explained that Amway Home’s focus has always been on developing concentrated formulas. To demonstrate how effective concentrates are, he shared, “Imagine if you had a can of tomato sauce on one hand, and a same-sized can of tomato paste on the other. Which would you choose to cook spaghetti with? In terms of costing, I was told the costing of Amway products comes close to that of the competition.

Dr Sliva’s specialty is actually in developing greener formulas that work so well without harming the environment. He was very quick and only too happy to explain that even before his stint with Amway, the company has already had a legacy of sustainability: “When the LOC Multi-Purpose Cleaner was produced for the very first time under its former name, Frisk, it was made to be biodegradable – and this was in 1959, before the word ‘biodegradable’ was even used!” The creation of the BioQuestTM formula 50 years later by his team shows how Amway Home uses natural factories, not chemical factories, to improve the LOC Multi-Purpose Cleaner and other Amway Home products by employing more ingredients derived from nature: the surfactants and cleaning agents are now predominantly coconut-based and include plant extracts like naturally-produced organic acids and natural essential oils. Sustaining life: The revitalized Amway Home line is a post from: Shopping Finds

CAB issued a permit to SkyJet; new airline to fly to unserved destinations
The Civil Aeronautics Board issued a temporary operating permit (TOP) to new player SkyJet Airlines which now allows the company to fly to different destinations nationwide.

In an order signed Aug. 3, CAB granted the urgent motion of Magnum Air, the corporation that owns SkyJet, for a permit to operate. The permit took effect immediately. With CAB’s issuance of a permit, SkyJet will immediately comply all requirements of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) to be able to start commercial operations.

The CAB is mandated by Republic Act 776, as amended by Presidential Decree 1462, to regulate, promote, and develop the economic aspect of air transportation in the Philippines and ensure that existing policies are adapted to the present and future air commerce of the Philippines.

The law also vests supervision, jurisdiction, and control over all carriers engaged in air commerce in the Philippines as well as their property, equipment, franchise and facilities.

Dr. Joel Mendoza, chief executive officer of Magnum Air hailed the decision of CAB, saying it will pave the way for SkyJet to fly to destinations that are either unserved or underserved.

“Our vision is to be an important partner in spurring economic activity through responsible tourism. We sell tourism destinations, not airline seats. And so we partner with local governments who share the same vision of responsible tourism,” he said.

Sky Jet will soon start regular commercial flights to Basco, Virac, Catarman and Surigao using a 94-seater British manufactured plane BAe 146-200.

Mendoza said unlike other new players, SkyJet aims to bring back the frills in flying and will accord passengers with the best hospitality on board including snacks and comfortable seats.

“SkyJet will offer first class flying at reasonable prices. We don’t promise cheap rates but we assure our passengers of premium customer care in all our destinations,” he said.

Mendoza said the choice of aircrafts manufactured by the BAe Systems is one proof of the company’s commitment to bring back the comfort in flying. The aircraft used by SkyJet is the same model used by the British Royal family. Others using the BAE Systems aircrafts include British airlines, Lufthansa, and other Europe-based airlines.

“This aircraft is specifically made for short landing and takeoff. It specializes in (operating in) unpaved runways so we can assure passengers of ease in landing even in smaller airports,” Mendoza said.

There is a human interest story on SkyJet owner, Dr.Joel Mendoza. In 2007 , he visited Batanes to see former Batanes governor Telesforo Castillejos for the “pamanhikan”. Dr. Mendoza thought to himself that the “pamanhikan” will be the first and last visit to Batanes. He could not imagine visiting such a far flung province. He fell in love with Batanes that pretty soon, he found ways to bring flights to Batanes. Starting with SEAIR as chartered flights , it gave way to more flights but the seating capacity was too little. Through research , he discovered the 94-seater British manufactured plane BAe 146-200 that suited the short runway of the Basco airport.

It is quite a love story and I digress.

CAB issues permit to SkyJet; new airline to fly to unserved destinations is a post from: Shopping Finds

Margaret Jordan played by Alison Pill- Maggie started as a “News Night” intern and quickly rose to associate producer. Her smarts equal her lack of experience and lack of confidence.

Also imposed upon Will are Jim Harper, Margaret Jordan, Don Keefer, Neal Sampat and Sloan Sabbith, the newsroom staff. Although this group finds itself off to a tumultuous start when breaking news comes over the wire, they immediately come together for one elusive goal: to do TV news well. Jim Harper is MacKenzie’s loyal senior show producer. Though only 27 years old, Jim is more like the old-school reporter Charlie than he is like his contemporaries. He finds himself instantly smitten with Margaret Jordan, a young intern-turned-associated producer, who is already in a relationship with Don Keefer, Will’s former executive producer. Neal Sampat, a young, resourceful self-made newsman writes Will’s blog and scours the Internet for stories, often finding leads his colleagues have missed. Sloan Sabbith is ACN’s financial news analyst.

Jim Harper played by John Gallagher, Jr.- Following Mackenzie to join the “News Night” team as senior producer, Jim served with her in Iraq and Afghanistan, and she can’t live without him. Though only 27, he’s more like Charlie than he is his contemporaries. Jim saw “All The President’s Men” as a kid and never looked back.

Recently renewed for a second season, THE NEWSROOM was created by Aaron Sorkin; executive producers, Aaron Sorkin, Scott Rudin and Alan Poul; co-executive producers, Denis Biggs, Greg Mottola and Paul Redford.

Sloan Sabbith played by Olivia Munn – The network’s financial news reporter, Sloan could be earning much more money as an analyst at Goldman, but her calling is economic reporting.

Aaron Sorkin has made a career of pulling back the curtain and showing the inner workings of his various subjects. From The West Wing of the White House to the courtrooms of A Few Good Men, from the control rooms of Sports Night to the locker rooms of Moneyball, from the inner circle of The Social Network to the cable network of THE NEWSROOM, he invites audiences to take a sneak peek at the assorted machinations of American life shifting into gear. Mother’s Day video: Give moms a KIT KAT break is a post from: Shopping Finds

Ever since I learned to drive in the 80′s, I was always aware on fuel saving tips in driving. It was during those times, when prices of oil went so high. I believe we should all learn to save on fuel as we drive. I am sure you are interested to know more about the attitudes toward fuel economy from our Filipino drives. Today, I attended the release of the study on Shell FuelSave Index.

The Shell FuelSave Index is a Shell commissioned research that looked into the driving habits of motorists in European and Asian countries in order to understand how to help more drivers save more fuel, more often.

Findings of the Shell FuelSave Index

Filipino drivers show positive attitudes towards fuel economy knowing that this will result to more savings revealed the latest Shell FuelSave Index. According to the study, 94% see fuel efficiency as an important way to save money and to personally help use resources in a more sustainable way.

Recent findings showed that the Filipinos are willing to change their driving behavior to save on fuel; reflecting 87% of those surveyed while 85% have actually changed the way they drive to reduce the amount of the fuel that they are using.

Furthermore, Filipino drivers lead among Asian markets in observing fuel saving techniques. The country ranked first in three (3) out of the Top 5 fuel saving tips, namely: avoiding over-revving (79%), reducing speed (56%) and driving smoothly (53%). The country ranked second in Asia in avoiding excessive idling (25%) and ranked third in using the top gear (30%).

It is encouraging to note that awareness on fuel reduction methods have increased in the past years. In 2010, the leading reason that prevented Filipinos from reducing fuel consumption was that they did not know how to, with 41%. Today, this reason is down to number four with only 12% of the respondents. In fact, 18% say that they already save fuel when they drive, 2% higher than the Asian average.

However, the study also showed that more education and information is needed in order for Filipinos to reduce fuel consumption with 20% saying there is not enough information.

Target One Million

In response to these findings, Shell launched the Target One Million, a Shell FuelSave campaign to help one million motorists across the globe learn how to save fuel.

During the campaign, Shell will release a series of interactive, online mini-games to equip drivers with the skills they need to help save fuel and, in doing so, cut down their fuel costs.

The mini-games are fun and quick to complete. The first one – Shell FuelSave Challenge – is available now at www.shell.com.ph/targetonemillion and is open to anyone who wants to play and become ‘one in a million.’ Five further games will be released over the coming months, each of which can be shared with friends and family across social media platforms, including Facebook.

Target One Million represents the latest step in Shell’s ongoing efforts to provide smarter, more efficient products like Shell FuelSave Unleaded and Shell FuelSave Diesel, and promote smarter energy use amongst the world’s motorists. Previous initiatives to educate customers on saving fuel include crowning Europe and Asia’s Smartest FuelSavers in 2010 and setting a Guinness World Record for the ‘Largest Fuel Efficiency Lesson’ on Global Shell FuelSave Day in October 2011.

In addition to the online mini-games, countries where Shell FuelSave Unleaded and Shell FuelSave Diesel are available will host other activities to help people learn how to save fuel, including driving challenges, live ‘sign up stations’ and fuel efficiency training clinics with celebrity ambassadors. These activities will take place in the Philippines as well as Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Malaysia, Netherlands, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Singapore, Slovakia, Thailand, Turkey and UK.
