Bronze-winged Jacana ( Metopidius indicus )

The bird is identifiable by its huge feet and claws which enable it to walk on floating vegetation in the shallow lakes that are inhabit ted by it. They are mainly black although the inner wings are dark brown. The bird also has a striking white eye stripe with a yellow bill. Young birds have brown upperparts with white underparts and a buff fore neck. The bird lays four brown eggs with black marks in a floating nest. The males are responsible for incubation.

Woolly-necked Stork or White necked stork ( Ciconia episcopus )

A bird of the wetlands, the woolly-necked stork is a large bird with a distinct white neck and a glistening black back. It builds a large stick nest in a tree, laying 2-5 eggs. Like all storks, the bird feeds on amphibians, small reptiles and large insects.

Black-winged Stilt ( Himantopus himantopus )

The Black-winged Stilt , also known as the Common Stilt is a widely distributed very long legged wader. Adults are about 35 cms long with long pink legs, a long thin black bill and are blackish above and white below. The breeding habitat of these stilts is marshes and shallow lakes. The nest is a bare spot on the ground near water.

If you visit Ontario to view the Niagara Falls in summer, you cannot miss the tulips growing in the parks and gardens. They present a beautiful sight and are a photographers delight. This close-up of a tulip flower was taken by me during my visit in May 2011. Camera used - Nikon D7000 with the standard 18-135mm lens.

Painted Storks at Bharatpur

Painted Storks are the most common birds to be seen at the Keoladeo National Park in Bhartpur. This photograph was taken in November when most migratory birds had still not arrived. However painted storks were visible in numbers.
