The Venice Film Festival has joined with Gucci (the House of Gucci, that is) to give birth to a new award for women filmmakers.

Startin next year, the gong will concentrate on notable work in cinema by females – and it can go to an actor or anyone behind the camera – writers, makeup artists, designers, the lot.

According to Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini, “Women have had an indisputable impact on film making since the very early days of cinema, both onscreen and behind the camera.”

Artistic Director of the Venice Film Festival, Marco Mueller also commented that film has had a big impact on the 90-year career of Gucci, and that, “[W]e particularly appreciate the theme of women as their work and contribution to the industry should receive greater recognition.”

Gucci has, in 2010, joined with Scorsese’s foundation to fly over a restored version of Barbara Loden’s film of 1970 ‘Wanda’ to the fest.

Whoever wins the Gucci Award will choose a film school to receive $25K in her name.

One things for certain: the red carpet is going to look even better from now on…

Dennis Quaid may have been one of the first stars in rehab and maybe Mark Wahlberg is embarrassed with his old rapper days, but nobody tops Bob Hoskins when it comes to method. A veteran of over 100 productions, the actor was also a fight magnet. The man’s been stabbed more often than a Sunday roast. He’s even got a hole in his nose to show for one of the incidents – and the hole isn’t a nostril.
“First I got stabbed in the shoulder and the top of my nose which really now is just a big hole. Then I got stabbed in the stomach. I was looking at a knife sticking out of my belly thinking, ‘He’s killed me!’

Hoskins blames himself for getting stabbed, by not being able to keep his mouth shut. “I should’ve backed down and shut up. But the knife couldn’t have gone in very far because it eventually fell out. But that’s what happened back then. You got through it. You survived.”

Get that, new stars? You get through it and you survive.

Arriving at the 67th Venice Film Festival for the movie’s premiere, Williams’ rocked her new white blonde elfin crop on the red carpet, which I LOVE – sadly, I didn’t much love the dove grey silk embroidered Jason Wu gown and Louboutin slingbacks – did she have a wedding event to sing at afterwards?

But kudos for the Bulgari frosting, a girl can never go wrong with Bulgari. Do you hear that boys?!
