SHOWCASE ACT

For the project Artist Impression students have to make an interactive presentation for the Digixperiment Wall in museum the Twentse Welle. Students have to develop a multimedia experience in which they give more information on an artist or certain art works of an artist. They do research on the artists live and work and work this out in a research document. After that a concept is created based on interesting outcomes from the research phase. There is also the challenge create a new concept for a new medium like the Digixperiment screen and interactive floor. How can we apply this technology for an interesting and engaging experience?

The teams made a short documentation on the story of their installation and its workings.

Indepth: Robotrock

Robotrock is a combination of simple techniques and graphic software to create a moving projectionmapping. I thought it would be a real challenge to research how i could make a static projectionmapping more dynamic.

Eventually i used a combination of Arduino, Flash, After Effects and 3D Studio Max.
The main goal for this installation was my participation on the Bring Your Own Beamer #2 event held at Tetem, Enschede.

Graduation: Kings Can Fly

Kings Can Fly is a fun and lighthearted puzzle game where you build wind fans to guide the King’s airships through puzzles. Though the pace is relaxed, the characters are loveable and the puzzles start out easy, Kings Can Fly will soon have your brain sweating as you try to fly the King through his maze-like kingdom. You need a good eye and sharp wits to navigate the towering mountains, spiked gates and dangerous whirlwinds you encounter on the way.

With over 50 levels of increasing difficulty you’ll be having hours of fun. Play the game with friends or let your kids try their hand at navigating the bright red balloons to their docks!

Kings Can Fly is Firedroid’s second game, following the popular Barrr pirate game. What started as a graduation project (then called Balloon Brothers) has been sculpted into a polished and cheerful puzzle game that will lure you in with its challenges and atmosphere.You can check the development blog here.

Kings Can Fly is a puzzle game for iOS and Android. Using a good eye, brain power and the fans the game provides, it’s the user’s goal to guide a train of ships through mazes and obstacles to reach the ship’s exit point. The obstacles range from direction-changing whirlwinds to huge barred gates and each require unique solutions. The game consists of over 60 levels, starting slowly but quickly building up pace to challenge the user with some seriously difficult mazes near the end.

Barrr is a cute and fast time-management game where you run your own pirate bar. Good reflexes and quick decision making are needed to keep your customers happy and your coffers loaded with booty. Serve the pirates ale, ink their skins and let them rock out on guitars, while you make sure that none pee on your clean deck!

Barrr was created by Roy van der Veen & Mariecke Kouwenberg, both Applied Arts & Technology graduates. What started as a college project out of love for games, turned into their first full-fledged game over the course of a year. Development & gameplay was shouldered by both developers, while Mariecke focused on graphic design and Roy was responsible for all things technical. Barr features fast gameplay, engaging mechanics and a unique art style. More than 50 levels spread out over 4 themes keep the game fresh, and the progressive difficulty will entertain both casual and experienced gamers.

Barrr is the first game Firedroid released, after a considerable development period as a student project. The game was written from scratch, specifically for Android OS, over the course of two year. After the initial success of the Barrr Lite version, we went on to make a full fledged game.

After completion of Barrr, we went on to form our company Firedroid with Willem & Rachel.

Logomania by Sean Roller

Logomania is a project of Sean Roller (Art & Technology, Advertising) to design 100 logos in 100 days, so everyday one logo.

As he describes it himself:

Logomania is about creation.

It is a daily exercise to improve my design skills and generate new ideas. All logos are created by myself, are unpaid, have no real client or briefing.

It is about discipline.
It is about having fun.
It is something for me.

Instead of Facebooking and being amazed by looking what others make, he started using this websurfing time to create something himself. I hope more students will follow his example!
