The drive from L.A. to Vegas was a blast. After having spent a week with Amelia, we’d picked up on her Australian slang and entertained ourselves by doing bad impressions of her during the entire 4-hour drive.

Crash course in Amelia speak:
Bottle-o = Liquor store
Trackydacks = Sweatpants
Serviette = Napkin
Let’s dack him = Let’s pants him
Get a rat up ya! = Cheers!
Sexpest = Pervert (this was our favorite!)

We drove through Baker, California (population: 914), which is famous for being home of the world’s tallest thermometer. IT WAS 117 DEGREES (47.2° C) WHEN WE GOT THERE!!!!! You have no idea how much we are dying in this photo. We literally pulled the car up as close as we could get to it, jumped out, took a picture, and ran back into our air-conditioned car at lightening speed. In that short minute we were outside, my septum ring had already heated up enough to burn my upper lip!



We stupidly tried to hug this statue and burned ourselves.

My favorite thing about roadtrips is stopping in diners. We stopped for lunch at a sports diner called Logan’s Roadhouse in the middle of nowhere. We were the only girls there, and all the men had sweet sweet mullets!

The menus were shaped like buckets of peanuts. You also get a real bucket of peanuts, and they tell you to throw the shells on the floor. MANLY!!

Vegas, we have arrived! Being Australian, Amelia was immediately mortified by this poster and apologized on behalf of all Australians for the monstrosity.

We met up with Danielle, who I miss soooooo much! She moved to Vegas last year to be with her fiance, who is an acrobat in Cirque du Soleil. And I’m going to beat her up because she doesn’t come back to visit enough. We walked over to Excalibur to get these not-embarrassing-at-all chalices because Danielle collects them. She carries her giant purse around and fills it with chalices!!! The other day Danielle confided in me, “I don’t think I fit in with the other girls in Vegas. I’m really… uncool.” Don’t worry, Danielle! You don’t fit in because you’re TOO cool! Let them laugh, but remember, she who dies with the most chalices wins!

Every trip we take to L.A. requires mandatory pigout sessions at Umami Burger and Milk. Me and Amelia start off the day at Umami Burger. I can’t say it enough — their mushroom portobello burger is the BEST!

Afterward we enjoyed delicious homemade red velvet cupcakes and ice cream bars at Milk. Check out the cherry coke ice cream cone cupcakes on the right! The owner of Milk was a contestant on Cupcake Wars, and those were his entry on the show.

Bellies full, we headed to Dan Santoni’s house to shoot Amelia wearing latex in 100 degree weather. What a trooper!!

After the shoot, we went to El Coyote for a quick and yummy Mexican dinner before rushing off to Michelle Star’s birthday party. Amelia and Dan waiting for their foods.

We were then joined by Yume and Alcuin for what was probably the most dangerous cab ride of all time… FIVE of us crammed in the back seat!!

Friday was Disneyland day! But first, a quick stop at Lip Service headquarters. They had contacted Amelia and asked us to stop by to discuss future cross promotion between Lip Service, Sugarpill, and Amelia’s band Angelspit. Fun, huh? We got a tour of their offices and factory and got to see how all their clothing is designed, cut and sewn. I love behind the scenes stuff. And the entire staff was really friendly and seemed to love their jobs!

We bid Mickey and staff goodbye and headed off to… DISNEYLAND!!

This was supposed to be a synchronized jumping shot, but we were very uncoordinated. We tried at least 10 times and this is the closest we got. Didn’t even bend our knees, oh well! ^__^

Twins! This picture was taken right before the most disgusting moment of my life happened. When the boat dropped in the beginning, I laughed when the water splashed us and ended up with a mouthful of nasty swamp water! You know they probably have not changed that water since the ride opened in 1967 (yeah I totally just googled that). I’m never sitting in the front again!

I totally freaked out and started screaming when I saw Mary Poppins. Yes, I have the brain of a 6 year old. It will be my all-time favorite movie till the day I die! And after I die, I want to be buried clutching my very first Mary Poppins VHS tape.

The Indiana Jones ride! Irene was excited to be in the driver’s seat because “In real life I can’t smile while driving because my eyes get too small and I can’t see.” So yeah, if you ever wanna die in a car with Irene, just tell her a joke while she’s driving.

And our final ride of the day, Space Mountain. My favorite thing about this photo is the phantom hand in the front of our car??? WHAT THE FUCK???????

After spending a few days in San Francisco and Oakland, Amelia, Kevin and I drove down to L.A. to shoot Sugarpill stuff. We arranged for Allan Amato to photograph Amelia and fellow cutie Ulorin Vex modeling upcoming Sugarpill collections. Sweet Scar was kind enough to offer us her amazing studio, Pillar Box, to shoot in.


Michelle Chubby Bunny took us to Coral Tree Cafe for breakfast that morning. Sooooo good!

Arrived at Scar’s studio. It’s soooooo humongous and has a million sets, props, and furniture!

Hello! Look at me blogging on a Saturday, I’m sooooo cool. Here are some pics from when the lovely Amelia flew in from London/Australia to model for Sugarpill and road trip with us to L.A. and Vegas for more photoshootin’, meetings, cosmetic industry trade show, hot circus boys (oooh I can’t wait to get to that part), and fun girl times. I’m going to break up our week-long adventure into several posts by city because there are just way too many pictures. This is the San Francisco post!


We went to Japantown in search of Baby the Stars Shine Bright and Black Peace Now accessories for our shoot. Didn’t find anything for the shoot, but I did score a sweet ass fanny pack for myself! Jealous?

Then we stopped for lunch at On the Bridge.

I ordered the tofu au gratin. OH MY GOD SOOOO GOOD.

Afterward we walked over to visit Christina and Aaron at work at Pika Pika. I had never taken purikura photo booth pics before – I know, I’m so horrible at being Asian! (I’ve never tried bubble tea either!) I decided now was as good a time as any to try. Cute is boring, so Amelia and I went out of our way to select the ugliest backgrounds and designs possible.

Then Amelia wanted to see the Golden Gate Bridge. They don’t got those in Australia!

That nite we tried to go to Death Guild, but soooomeone (not naming names but Amelia!) forgot her ID so we couldn’t get in.

Kevin was the only one who managed to get a wristband before we realized our mistake. This pretty much sums up our night.

It was too late to run back home to get it and come back, so we ended up rushing to the grocery store at 1:59am to get a case of beer, which we drank at home while watching COPS. Oh the glamorous life we lead! Look at Tess. She’s wearing a corset over a bodysuit over leggings. That looks IMPOSSIBLE to pee in.

The following nite, we headed over to the Mission to meet up with Nadya of Coilhouse mag for Indian food. Amelia liked this neighborhood a lot, so we forced her to do tourist poses in front of the old signs, heehee.

This is a ONE PERSON meal! Three of us attempted to finish it but failed. But mmmm those wraps were super yummy!

Got to hang out with Lauren briefly before she left for her cross country roadtrip. Awwww my Sugarpill models!

We finally ended up at Black Bird with Kristen, Star and Tim.

We engaged in a super nerdy, in-depth conversation about blogging, running an online business, and the internet.

Last month, Maria Locketship came up to San Francisco for a brief visit. Such an event called for an immediate Big-Headed Asians (BHA) club meeting! We managed to round up 3/4 of our members (missing: Irene) for a romantic lunch date at the Ferry Building.

The Monday after IMATS, we treated ourselves to a fun day at Disneyland. I hadn’t been in so long, and now I’m hooked! Disneyland, I will never neglect you again. From left to right, front to back: Tess, Yume, the Debbi, Kevin, me, White Stephanie, Lauren, Irene and Shandra!

Originally the plan was for everyone to dress in “hillbilly” theme. That plan was nixed at the last minute; unfortunately Yume and I were the only ones who didn’t get the memo!!! Thanks a lot, friends! So we decided to just be lesbian cowgirls. I made her be the butch one because of her shaved head and called her Yuman.

Lauren is SUCH a pro! She noticed Yume’s eye makeup smudging, and without warning whipped out a Q-tip and went for Yume’s face.

Dinner at Blue Bayou, my FAVORITE place to eat in Disneyland! It’s that one located inside Pirates of the Caribbean so you can watch the boats go by while you eat. It’s got a nice romantic dark swamp atmosphere, and the food is soooo good! Don’t forget to RSVP a week in advance, otherwise it’s impossible to get a table.

Irene showed Bebe and White Stephanie the trailer for Harry Potter, and Bebe was so happy she burst into tears. I just have to say that I love my weird crying friends. Tess cried over World of Color, and I cried at the Hello Kitty fashion show. We are super huge crybabies.

After Bebe finished crying, she pulled out her Sugarpill palette for a quick and convenient touch-up! ;-)

Now we are walking to Space Mountain. The goal is to see how long we can stay linked without ever letting go. Because that’s what friends doooo!!
