This release contains new functionality, some bug fixes and minor user interface changes. We recommend BizTrackIt 2.2.1 users upgrade to this release.

New Features

• On application startup we now check and prompt for any required application permissions. Interactions/Cross Application Communication and User Data/Email permissions must be set to Allow.

• Manually creating time records is now easier
• The menu item named New for manually creating new time records is now available on the main application screen regardless of which field has the input focus

• Manually created time records no longer require In and Out times although they can be provided if you check the Specify In/Out Times field. Time records without In and Out times are listed after time records with In and Out times in the order of creation from oldest to newest.

• New Reporting Functionality
• Configure Report screen: New Run Test button allows you to run a report without being asked at the end whether the time records included in the report should be deleted or marked reported. Time records included in the report will not be deleted or marked reported. This can be used to generate an interim report as a backup in case of disaster or to try out new report configuration settings.

• Added RoundedTimeDecimalHours column to CSV reports, useful for invoice calculations. Values are rounded to 4 decimal places.

• New Daily Summary CSV report
• Configure Report screen: New Type field allows you to choose between Detail and Daily Summary reports

• A Daily Summary report summarizes time records on a daily basis by rolling up all time records for each project per day included in the report into at most 1 time record for billable time and 1 time record for unbillable time. The rolled up time record will contain values for the following time related columns: RoundedTime, ActualTime and RoundedTimeDecimalHours. The TimeIn and TimeOut related columns will be empty. If the Include Description and Notes field is checked on the Configure Report screen then the Description and Notes columns values in the report will be a concatenation of the Description and Notes column values respectively for all the time records rolled up into the summary time record.

Warning If the Phone application is in the foreground and a call is in progress then pressing the red End/Power key will disconnect the phone call. The Phone application supports a Hide menu item in this case, but if you’ve enabled Password Security then you will need to select the Unlock menu item first and enter your password before the Hide menu item will be displayed on the Phone application menu.

To bring an application running in the background back so it is displayed in the foreground do one of the following:

• Find its icon on the Home screen (or in a folder of the Home screen) and click it to launch the application

• If your BlackBerry has a QWERTY keyboard, you’ve enabled application launch hotkeys and the application in the background supports such a hotkey then press it while on the Home screen. For more information see “Launching Applications using Hotkeys on QWERTY keyboard Smartphones“.

• Press the BlackBerry Menu key while on the Home screen, select the Switch Application menu item to display a ribbon showing the icons for all running applications. Scroll to and then click the ribbon icon for the application you want to bring into the foreground to switch to it. Note that some other applications may also support the Switch Application menu item.

• If your BlackBerry has a keyboard then press and hold the Alt key followed by a press and release of the Escape key - this will display a ribbon showing the icons for all running applications. Scroll to the ribbon icon for the application you want to bring into the foreground and then release the Alt key to switch to it.

1. Launch the Phone App - the easiest way to do this is to press the green phone key (the key immediately to the left of the BlackBerry Menu key)
2. Press the Menu key and select Options
3. Display the General Options screen
4. Set the Dial From Home Screen field to No
5. Save the change and exit the Phone App

Note As a result of the above you will no longer be able to dial phone numbers directly from your Home screen. Speed dial keys will still work from your Home screen, but to dial phone numbers directly you will need to run the phone application. Most people find this to be an acceptable trade off in order to gain the advantages of launching applications using hotkeys.

To launch any of our applications from the Home screen press and immediately release its corresponding hotkey listed in the following table:

To determine the application launch hotkey for an application, if any:

• Find the application icon on the Home screen or in a folder of the Home screen and highlight it. If the application has a hotkey it will be underlined in the application name, typically displayed at the bottom of the screen.

• Consult the application documentation.

What if more than one application uses the same launch hotkey (e.g. DateMathica and BlackBerry Help both use ‘h’)?

The behavior in this case seems to be undocumented. We’ve tested various operating system versions and found that if you want to make sure your desired application is launched when the hotkey is pressed then you need to:

1. Move its icon to the Home screen if it is in a Home screen folder
2. Move its icon after all of the icons for the other applications on the Home screen that use the same hotkey. An icon is after another icon if it is either below it on the screen or if it is to the right of it on the same row.

Features Introduced in Version 2.2

• Time record In field is now editable while the timer is running; the elapsed time for the time record is increased if the In time is moved earlier and decreased if moved later. Useful if you forget to punch in when you begin work - you can punch in late and immediately fix the In time.

• New VCR-like control for navigating between dates with activity for the current project
• Shortcuts for full keyboard smartphone models (shortcuts may not work as documented when a field that supports prefix searching, such as the Project field, has the input focus as the prefix searching functionality takes priority)
• Press 0 (zero) to punch in or out

You can workaround this bug as follows:

• To edit the :ss (seconds) field component use the virtual keyboard

• To edit the hh:mm field components, hide the virtual keyboard if shown and use the normal touch interface

More information specific to GoTimeIt (Countdown Timer Mode)

If your BlackBerry is configured for 12 hour format and you don’t want to change it to 24 hour format (see the Time Format field value on the Options, Date/Time screen) then you will also need to translate times into 24 hour format when editing the hh:mm time field components using the touch interface. For example, you will need to specify 12:30 AM if you want a Countdown/Reset Time value of 30 minutes (hh:mm of 00:30), 1:30 AM for 1 hour and 30 minutes (hh:mm of 01:30), 12:30 PM for 12 hours and 30 minutes (hh:mm of 12:30) and 1:30 PM for 13 hours and 30 minutes (hh:mm of 13:30).

Note This bug was reported to RIM and has been fixed in OS 5.

Unfortunately it is not clear which wireless carriers have rolled out BIS 2.6 to date. The easiest way to determine whether this problem affects you is to create a test project with a single time record and then run an email report for the test project only; select No when asked by BizTrackIt whether to mark the time record reported or to delete it. If the .csv file attachment in the received report email does not contain the single time record then it is likely your default email service is BIS 2.6. Make sure you try this test again after implementing the workaround described in the next paragraph to confirm it works.

To workaround this bug you should check the Use Alternate Attachment Method box on the Configure Report screen available in BizTrackIt 1.8 or above. If you are using an older version of BizTrackIt then you should upgrade to the latest release that supports your BlackBerry OS version (at the time of this publication BizTrackIt 2.0.1 supports OS 4.2.1-4.7; BizTrackIt 1.8.0.3 supports OS 4.0-4.5). For instructions on how to upgrade see How to upgrade our products to the latest release.

RIM is investigating this issue and at some point may provide a fix at which time you may need to uncheck the Use Alternate Attachment Method box for email reports to continue to work properly. Be aware that new versions of BIS are not typically rolled out to all carriers at the same time and the roll out schedule is not publicly available, so it may take some time for your carrier to receive the fix.

It is because of these sorts of problems that we published the article How to run BizTrackIt email reports safely and we recommend you don’t delete time records until you confirm successful receipt of the report containing them, which in the case of email reports includes confirming that the received email file attachment contains data. Please follow these precautions always, even when using this workaround.

1. Go to the date to which you want to add a time record (if it’s not the current date). To do this, click the trackball and select Go to Date.
2. Move the input focus to the Project field on the main screen and click the trackball, select Change Option and choose the correct project.
3. Roll the trackball until the highlight is in the time record area of the screen (i.e. either highlight an existing time record or if there are no time records, highlight the No Time Records item).
4. Click the trackball and select New to add a new time record. Fill out the time record information. When the input focus is at the In or Out field you can press the trackball and set the respective time to the current date/time by selecting the Paste Current Time item. Click the trackball and select Save.
5. To go back to the records for the current date & project click the Today button at the top of the screen.

To edit a time record:

1. Select the time record (see above).
2. Click the trackball and select Edit.
